Chapter 307:
Large chunks of stone walls collapsed, filling the entire passage.
A thick cloud of black dust surged toward the two from behind.
It was Senterman who had blown up the stone wall to block the pursuit of the relic guardians.
However, just as the stone wall fell, a muffled sound suddenly echoed.
"Boom, boom, boom."
The stone wall seemed to be struck by something with immense power, accompanied by a series of clear vibrations that reached the two.
Feeling this tremor, Senterman's expression changed slightly. He quickly took out a particle of Azure from his waist, crushed it, and spat it onto his legs.
"We need to speed up; those things can't be blocked by ordinary stones!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the green viscous liquid he spat out began to emit subtle winds, and their speed increased significantly.
Seeing this, Freya lightly snapped her fingers.
Several streams of Azure Wind Flow quickly swirled around her, and soon Freya's speed surpassed Senterman's by a considerable margin.
Just as the two were casting spells to increase their speed, the collapsed stone wall suddenly cracked open.
Hundreds of golden eyeballs appeared, exuding a strong sense of danger as they chased after Freya and Senterman.
Without a word, the two continued to cast acceleration spells on themselves.
Although the speed of the eyes was fast, they gradually fell behind at the current speed of the two.
After quickly turning a corner, the group of eyes behind them finally disappeared, shaken off.
Half an hour later.
As they breathed lightly, Freya sensed the energy presence behind her and exclaimed, "I didn't expect that after so long, these automatic guardians could still maintain normal activation. However, escaping like this isn't a solution. How did you deal with those guardians you encountered back then?"
"Back then?" Senterman recalled and said, "It was Klyent who found a control trap in the ruins and directly roasted that group of eyes into molten gold."
"A trap?" While running, Freya glanced at the passage of the ruins.
The smooth black stone walls on both sides had no special substances; they were so clean that there were no energy fluctuations at all.
"No way." She shook her head. "This passage has nothing at all. Besides blowing up others like just now, there’s really nothing useful here. Is there any other method?"
"I remember that this guardian's tracking relies not only on scent recognition but also on sight and smell."
Upon hearing his words, Freya, who had been fleeing, suddenly stopped. She took out a gray potion from her waist, removed the cork, and drank it directly.
Her originally normal skin tone gradually turned semi-transparent.
Noticing that Freya had stopped, Senterman also halted his steps.
Looking at her gradually semi-transparent arm, Freya said to Senterman.
"Is that so? I suppose this counts as a change."
"You still have Void Elixir on you?" Seeing the transparent Freya, Senterman's cold expression was momentarily stunned.
"It's just a defective potion. It takes half the time to Collapse compared to the regular Void Elixir, and it can't pass through walls." Freya said, pulling out another vial of potion from her waist pouch and tossing it to Senterman.
"Alright, theoretically it should be fine. Let's give it a try."
After receiving the potion, Senterman immediately drank it, and soon he became transparent as well.
The two leaned against the wall, ready to cast spells at a moment's notice.
Before long, a group of Ruins Guardians resembling Golden Eyeballs swiftly passed by them, seemingly unaware of their presence.
"Ha."
Exhaling lightly, Freya relaxed her expression as she watched the guardians disappear around the corner.
These creatures seemed to be a combination of biological and alchemical elements, exuding a strong aura of destruction, especially since Senterman mentioned they could instantly kill a Second-Level Wizard. That terrifying power...
It was hard to imagine how the Hester Organization designed such things in the first place.
Once the presence of the guardians was completely gone, the two stepped away from their cornered position.
The effects of the defective Void Elixir were short-lived, dissipating in just twenty minutes.
Feeling her body solidify again, Freya clenched her fist.
"Let's go! Let's see if there are any other valuable items around and also look for an exit from this ruins."
"Good!"
Three hours later.
In the intersecting corridors of the Hester Ruins.
Freya and Senterman, searching for resources and an exit, arrived at a stone door.
At this moment, Senterman held a tattered parchment in his hand, occasionally frowning as he looked at the stone door before them.
"If this thing is not mistaken, then behind this door is the main passage of Hester, which can lead to any other area and exit."
"I can feel the fresh air at the entrance; it should be correct," Freya said calmly.
The parchment in Senterman's hand was none other than the Ruins Map they had inadvertently found in a decaying box in a room.
Although it was severely damaged and many areas were unmarked, it still provided some clues.
After a pause, he pressed his palm against the stone door, and strands of black smoke emanated from his hand.
Before long, a large hole sufficient for one person to pass through melted into the originally smooth stone door.
Detecting no signs of danger, he stepped through the stone door first, with Freya closely following behind.
This corridor was wider than any others they had experienced. Not far ahead, they could see several identical black stone doors, some already open and others closed.
Freya noticed some disordered footprints on the ground, which caught her attention.
"It seems like this is from Klyent. They just passed through here not long ago, but it looks like they ran into some trouble. Look."
She pointed to the footprints on the ground, most of which had a wide stride, indicating they were moving quickly.
In addition to the human footprints, there were several thick tracks that looked as if a snake had slithered across.
This gave Freya a familiar feeling.
"Are these biological footprints?" Senterman also noticed the unusual marks and frowned.
Wizards who often explore ruins mostly dislike the various traps found within, and second to that, they dislike encountering the various creatures that survive in the ruins.
Creatures that have existed in ruins for a long time clearly possess considerable strength, and with so little food available in the ruins, encountering prey would inevitably lead to direct confrontation.
However, it seemed that Klyent had merely encountered something; no one appeared to be injured.
After thinking for a moment, Freya raised her index finger, and a faint Azure Light flashed across her fingernail, quickly followed by a 'crackling' sound from within.
"Klyent, can you hear me? Where are you right now!? Please respond if you hear this!"
The message quickly reached Klyent through the Black Bear Mark. However, after waiting for a while, Freya received no response from them—only the continuous 'crackling' sound.
"Is there interference on the main channel?" Freya stared at her fingernail and frowned.
"About that," Senterman said as he lowered the red ribbon he was using to communicate. His expression was serious. "From the footprints, they should have passed through here over half an hour ago. Besides being chased by that creature, they were also carrying quite a bit of gear. Since Klyent came through before entering the ruins to seek ancient knowledge, I estimate they are heading towards the library. We can wait there; I'm not worried they won't come looking for us."
"Sounds good." Freya nodded in agreement with this suggestion.
Soon, the two continued onward.
The ruins of Hester are vast, and from the broken parchment, it is indicated that there are at least five areas resembling a library.
At this moment, they are heading to the nearest library.
About ten minutes later, the chaotic footprints on the ground began to fade, and a considerable concentration of energy still lingered in the surroundings.
As they walked through the corridor, Freya displayed a puzzled expression. She reached out to touch the wall beside her, and a white powder immediately scraped off.
Looking at the white powder in her hand, she brought it to her nose and sniffed it, detecting a faint fishy smell.
"Hey? Is this White Scale Fish Powder?"
"If it's White Scale Fish Powder, then it's remnants of Udi Sorcery. It seems they also experienced a battle."
As a companion who often goes on adventures, Senterman is very familiar with the magic of the group.
"Let's speed up!" After brushing off the powder from her hands, Freya raised her head, her eyes flashing with an unusual expression. "I can smell a faint scent of blood; someone has been injured."
"Understood!" Senterman's expression also became serious.
Another ten minutes passed.
The two arrived outside a dilapidated Stone House.
Freya and Senterman looked strangely at the library marked on the map.
The bookshelves that should have been neatly arranged were now all smashed to pieces, with large amounts of book dust scattered everywhere.
Some areas on the ground still had large patches of fresh red bloodstains, as if they had just flowed down moments ago.
"We seem to have arrived late; the signs indicate it was about five minutes ago," Senterman observed calmly as he looked at the chaotic Stone House.
Without a word, Freya followed the trail of blood.
She extended her hand and waved lightly.
'Whoosh!'
The Azure Wind immediately blew away the scattered debris, revealing a relatively intact bookshelf.
Beneath the shattered bookshelf lay a massive black body, its scales covered in deep, severe wounds, with bright red blood flowing from it.
"Just as I thought!"
Seeing the body, Freya felt a surge of joy in her heart, though her expression remained largely unchanged.
"Is that the creature that was chasing Klyent and the others?"
Noticing Freya's discovery, Senterman approached as well.
"Yes," Freya nodded, bending down to retrieve a Test Tube from behind her and placing it near one of the cleaner wounds to collect blood. "This is a swamp creature called Mud Python; it will be helpful for my experiments. Do you want some?"
Hearing Freya's explanation, he shook his head.
"Never mind, I'm not interested in this. Just be quick about it."
"No problem, it will be done soon—at most in two minutes."
Two minutes later, ten Crimson Test Tubes were inserted side by side into Freya's waist, covered by a layer of protective Force Field, and finally concealed under a Robe.
At this moment, the black python that had been nearby seemed to have its moisture drained, becoming unusually shriveled.
Glancing at the now useless corpse, Freya finally stood up and said, "Let's go."
"Mm." Senterman nodded.
The two left the library one after the other.
At this point, Freya's goal of searching for the Royal Serpent Bloodline was nearly achieved.
With a scale from a King Cobra combined with the blood of a primitive Mud Python, she was confident that she could cultivate a true Royal Serpent Bloodline within ten years.
After all, with enough quantity, there would always be a chance for mutation to occur.
The ten Test Tubes she carried contained concentrated blood essence, sufficient for her to create thousands of clones of Mud Python.
She contemplated the experiments she would conduct upon returning and the formal study of Ancient Inheritance.
Unknowingly, the two returned to the entrance of the main passage they had entered earlier.
Senterman was surrounded by a dense layer of Black Bugs, which occasionally extended to probe the surroundings.
Suddenly, he stopped abruptly, raised two fingers slightly, and a golden tendril emerged from between them.
The tendril swayed unconsciously, forming a special character. Upon seeing this, Senterman's expression suddenly changed.
"Quick, I've found them!"
After reminding Freya, he immediately ran in the opposite direction.
Freya was slightly taken aback but quickly followed closely behind.
As they got closer to Senterman's sensing range, faint muffled explosions accompanied by the roars of giant beasts echoed from the walls.
Amidst the chaotic sounds of battle, their speed increased once more.
Before long, they stopped at the wall where the sounds were loudest.
Senterman listened for a moment before extending his hand to cover the wall.
A thick swarm of black insects quickly spread across the surface, and soon a hissing sound of corrosion could be heard.
However, it was clear that his Negative Energy corrosion effect was not very effective against this special wall.
Freya frowned behind him and stepped forward.
"This wall has excellent magical resistance. I have a way; let me give it a try!"
Knowing that it would take at least ten minutes to break through the wall, Senterman retracted his Deathly Insects upon hearing Freya's words.
Once Senterman stepped back, Freya narrowed her eyes slightly, took a gentle breath, and extended one hand.
"I haven't used this technique in a long time; I wonder if it can break through."
'Buzz'
A faint buzzing sound emanated from her hands. Although she was not using the Cross Sword, her current physical condition had already surpassed that low level.
A subtle conical airflow slowly formed in front of her arms.
"Oh? Is this technique merely a physical manifestation?" The Senterman behind her clearly did not understand this combat skill.
Without a word, Freya suddenly extended her hand and thrust it violently toward the corroded, dilapidated wall.
"Blazing Edge!"
With her attack, a circle of fine black cracks spread out from the center of her fist, and soon the entire wall was covered in fissures. (To be continued...)
