Chapter 309:
Crimson Eagle, as the largest Wizard Organization in Crimson Plain, has always been the main venue for the Witch Exchange Meeting over the years.
During this time, elite apprentices from various Wizard Organizations in Crimson Plain gather here to engage in academic research and technical exchanges.
At certain moments, public research experiments are even showcased for everyone to learn from and improve together.
Indeed, aside from the competitions among apprentices, these activities are the main focus of the Witch Exchange Meeting.
The vast open space of the Crimson Eagle Headquarters is now adorned with red welcome banners.
Some areas are already being constructed into houses, lounges, and an arena for competitions.
Most apprentices in the academy appear exceptionally excited and nervous, as each Witch Exchange Meeting is very important for them.
Even those apprentices without backgrounds place great importance on this exchange competition among peers.
The work of Freya and other wizards from the Rune Department involves inscribing and reinforcing runes along with necessary protective measures within these buildings.
However, construction is only halfway done at this point, so it is not yet their turn to take action.
Thus, at this moment, the Rune Department is also the most relaxed department.
Freya walks along this somewhat lively street, enjoying a rare moment of leisure.
In this lively atmosphere, she even noticed that in some corners, a few apprentices were setting up stalls to sell their homemade Cursed Items or potions.
From her perspective, these items were merely simple trinkets with very limited functions.
However, for the apprentices, they might be quite helpful.
This made her reminisce about her own impoverished days as an apprentice.
Back then, she had taken on various hunting missions just for a bit of Magic Stone and resources, the level of danger was far beyond what these apprentices faced here.
If it weren't for the support from Rand later on, it would have been much harder to advance to a wizard.
"Hi, Freya, what are you doing?"
Suddenly, a man's voice came from behind her, interrupting her thoughts.
Freya turned around and saw a handsome man with short green hair and slightly pointed ears walking over with a smile.
He held a delicate white box in his right hand, and she wondered what was inside.
Seeing him approach, Freya smiled slightly.
"Hi, Lawrence. Is there something you need?"
This wizard named Lawrence was a colleague of Freya's in the Rune Department. They didn't socialize much, and in Freya's memory, he seemed to have a somewhat shy personality. Even now that he was a First-Level Liquid Wizard, this trait hadn't changed much.
"Hehe. Nothing much." Seeing Freya's smile, Lawrence awkwardly smiled back, his grip on the gift box tightening slightly.
"By the way, are you free right now? A few apprentices are preparing for the warm-up match before the Witch Exchange Meeting. Do you want to go take a look?"
"A warm-up match?" Freya raised an eyebrow.
Her most important Royal Serpent Bloodline wouldn't show any results for another month, and she had just fed it before coming here. She had also paused her Meditation Method because she didn't want anything to go wrong in the experiment a month later. Klyent's Cursed Items had just been sent over a few days ago. Thinking carefully, aside from continuing to analyze Second-Level Sorcery, it seemed like this was her most leisurely moment.
While Freya was contemplating, Lawrence across from her looked a bit nervous, as if he was afraid she would be unavailable in the next moment.
After a brief pause, Freya nodded.
"Sure, since I don't have anything else to do, it would be good to go see."
"Oh? Really? That's great! I mean, that's wonderful!"
Seeing Lawrence's somewhat awkward demeanor, Freya shook her head dismissively.
The two chatted about various topics as they walked and soon arrived at a Testing Hall.
The already lively hall was now packed with people. Some areas of the Testing Area were cordoned off for practice matches, where confident apprentices were competing against each other.
The noisy crowd made Freya frown slightly, but Lawrence seemed quite enthusiastic.
He had somehow bought two cups of green juice and handed one to Freya while explaining some of his recent research findings.
However, Freya had already known about these things long ago.
With her current knowledge, she generally knew about most topics unless they were too obscure.
She glanced around and raised her head to see the stands set up in the Testing Hall. There were only a few people standing on it, all of whom were Official Wizards, suggesting it was a special seating area.
Among them were a few familiar figures.
Freya pointed at the stands. "Let's go over there; it's a bit noisy here."
Hearing her words, Lawrence was slightly taken aback, stopped talking, and looked up to see the stands, nodding in agreement.
"Alright."
As the two approached the stands, one of the black-haired wizards waved at Lawrence.
"Lawrence, what brings you out here? Has your experiment been completed? Oh? You're actually with Freya?"
He seemed to have witnessed something incredible, his gaze filled with surprise.
Behind him, two witches dressed in green Robes also looked at them curiously.
"Nopay, what's with that expression?" Lawrence stepped forward with a somewhat unpleasant look, glancing back at Freya.
"Hehe, we just happened to run into each other on the way," Freya smiled at the two witches behind Nopay. "By the way, aren't you going to introduce your companions? I saw them during the meeting."
"Hey, sorry, I forgot," Nopay said with an awkward smile as he stepped aside. "This is our new Rune Department member, Vivian the Sorceress and Mirala the Sorceress."
The two witches appeared to be twins, looking very similar with large eyes and attractive faces. Their green Robes were cinched at the waist with Azure ribbons, accentuating their lovely figures.
However, as Freya, a Second-Level Wizard, focused her compressed mental perception, she could detect extremely subtle energy signatures emanating from their faces and bodies.
It seems that the facial features and figures of the two individuals have been meticulously enhanced by magic.
"Hello. I am Freya." Without paying much attention to this, Freya smiled and introduced herself.
Beside her, Lawrence seemed indifferent to the two witches behind them, merely nodding lightly.
"I am Lawrence."
Just as a few of them were about to speak, a sudden rumbling explosion echoed from below the stands.
A faint defensive Force Field enveloped the Testing Area over there, but the large amount of white smoke made it difficult to see what was happening inside.
The explosion immediately drew the attention of several people.
As the smoke cleared, it quickly revealed two Apprentice Wizards dressed in Gray Robes inside.
One had already collapsed on the ground, unconscious, while the other stood there with a pale face but an expression of indifference.
At this moment, the hands of the unconscious apprentice were glowing with a faint blue electric light, indicating that the magic had not dissipated yet.
Sensing the energy emanating from that electric light, Freya slightly squinted her eyes, curiosity flickering in her gaze.
"That apprentice's magic is actually comparable to First-Level Sorcery in strength. It looks like a good prospect."
Nopay glanced at Freya with slight surprise.
"Freya, you actually don't know him? Oh, right, it's normal since you don't often visit headquarters. He is Lord Kage's grandson, the Deputy Director of the Guard Department. He is one of the few Third-Rank Apprentices in the entire academy who is predicted to successfully advance to Wizard."
The two witches behind him seemed to realize for the first time the identity of this apprentice, their eyes flickering with contemplation.
"Grandson of the Deputy Director of the Guard Department?" Freya turned her head in surprise, then revealed a knowing expression. "No wonder he is so impressive."
An apprentice raised in such a prestigious family background would certainly have a higher chance of advancement than ordinary apprentices.
"According to reports, he seems to be one of the candidates for the final match at this Witch Exchange Meeting. By the way, he also appears to be Lawrence's cousin, right?"
Nopay directed her gaze toward Lawrence, hinting intentionally or unintentionally.
"He's just a distant relative; there's hardly any connection by blood anymore," Lawrence seemed disinterested in this topic, his previously smiling expression now subdued.
Freya cast a curious glance at him but chose not to speak further, continuing to watch the competition below.
After defeating one apprentice, the grandson of the Deputy Director seemed unwilling to leave the arena and continued to stand there waiting for his next opponent.
In the following ten minutes, after defeating three more Third-Rank Apprentices, he finally stepped down due to mental exhaustion.
At this point, the wizards in the stands recognized the potential he possessed.
His combat skills and awareness were not something an ordinary apprentice could compare to.
He was even more skilled than some lower-ranking Official Wizards.
Freya subtly noticed some faint traces of Secret Art emanating from him.
After watching for a while longer, she realized that aside from that apprentice's match being quite exciting, the other apprentices were all very immature.
Almost all simple evasions felt very unfamiliar, relying solely on one's own magical power to compete or strike the opponent from a distance without getting close. It was almost entirely about who could endure until the end to achieve victory.
This was completely different from the style of battles that once took place in the Dis Mountain Range.
After watching for a while, it became rather boring.
However, the others were very engrossed; Nopay even acted as a commentator, explaining the intensity of the spells used by the two female witches and the specific model structures involved.
Lawrence was also deep in thought, engaging in casual conversation with Freya.
After some time had passed, Freya looked up at the clock hanging in the Testing Hall and then addressed the group.
"Sorry, my experiment time is up. I have to go."
"Oh, is that so? Well then," Nopay nodded in understanding.
Experiments and research had always been a theme for wizards; dissecting the unknown was what drove them forward.
"Let me walk you out; I have some time," Lawrence said as he stepped forward.
"No need," Freya replied with a smile, waving her hand as she turned to leave the viewing platform.
Watching Freya's departing figure, he ultimately did not follow her.
Nopay observed Lawrence's complex expression and gently shook his head, saying nothing further.
Leaving the Testing Hall, Freya did not linger at the headquarters of the Crimson Eagle and drove her carriage towards her Lakefront Manor.
The Azure Sky was occasionally crossed by giant eagles carrying guardian wizards, and this was the busiest time for these fellows during the Witch Exchange Meeting.
Upon returning to the manor, Freya headed straight to the laboratory.
Pulling back the black cloth, the Mud Python in the Cultivation Tank became active upon exposure to light.
What had only been as thin as a hair before had noticeably thickened, and it sent a weak mental message to Freya asking for food.
Feeling the strong Spiritual Message, a hint of inexplicable emotion appeared in Freya's eyes.
"Truly remarkable are the Ancient Beasts; even in their juvenile stage, they instinctively know how to use mental power. This must be an inherent memory in their genes."
Just as she was about to take out Blood Crystallization to feed it, she suddenly noticed that among the thin Mud Pythons, one had grown to the thickness of a finger and was biting another Mud Python that was comparatively thinner.
Gray-Black Blood oozed from the Cultivation Solution, causing the other Mud Pythons to flee in fear.
"Interspecies Cannibalism?"
Freya frowned and continued to observe. Soon, that Mud Python easily killed its kind and began tearing into it with its mouth full of fine Fangs.
"It seems to be just an exception."
After it finished consuming its kin, Freya opened the lid of the Cultivation Tank and extended an Azure tentacle to fish out that special Mud Python, placing it into a separate container.
After thinking for a moment, she took out an Amulet containing King Cobra Scales from her waist pouch and placed it at the bottom of the container.
A faint aura of the Royal Serpent Bloodline naturally emanated from the Amulet, and the Mud Python seemed to sense something, displaying a joyful expression in the Spiritual Message.
"Well then, let's give it a try."
After a moment of contemplation, she lifted the lid of the vessel.
Ten minutes later, the Witch Exchange Meeting commenced as scheduled.
The Arena that had been constructed was hosting the elimination matches for the apprentices.
Given the number of apprentices present and the quantity of Arenas, it was estimated that it would take at least three or four rounds to determine anything significant.
In addition to the heated competitions, there were also Lectures conducted by Second-Level Wizards and various Exhibitions.
Even with Freya's knowledge, she found herself somewhat dazzled by it all.
Of course, aside from topics related to wizards, there were also other subjects.
For instance, art, music, painting, dance, and so on.
In Cloud City, the long lifespans and tranquility of the wizards allowed them to gain extensive knowledge beyond just research and experiments aimed at self-improvement.
This also gave Freya a complete understanding of the attitudes of the wizards here.
Dismissing Lawrence's invitation, Freya made her way alone to a hall marked with the sign "Biological Exhibition Area."
Various strange creatures are exhibited here.
Most of those mentioned in many books can be found here.
Here, Freya also saw a row of various Elemental Creatures.
These Elemental Creatures, shrunk down to about ten times smaller, are only the size of a palm, each with humanoid faces, bare upper bodies, but their lower halves are in a semi-transparent elemental form.
They are trapped in spherical containers, displaying angry expressions. (To be continued...)
