Chapter Three Hundred Eighteen:
The Heart of Shadow in his hand is one of the more famous Magic Weapons of the Red Cross, and can be considered a symbol of the organization.
However, the presence of such a high-level Magic Weapon here indicates that this wizard named Sain has an unusual status.
Both of them chose to remain silent regarding his words, but they understood that it was the truth.
The overwhelming purge by the Crimson Eagle left no resistance capability for organizations like theirs, the Medium Wizard Organization.
A large number of precious resources were stripped away, rebellious wizards were executed, and even the last surviving members could only hide in the shadows waiting for a chance to escape.
This was difficult for anyone to accept.
Moreover, their attempts to form a resistance with other Wizard Organizations facing similar fates were mostly futile.
This is the trend of the Crimson Plain; no one can obstruct it.
Unless a miracle occurs, or someone from Sky City directly breaks their promise to liberate this place, the Crimson Plain will eventually become the private territory of the Crimson Eagle.
Feeling the heavy atmosphere in the air, Sain glanced at the two and put the Heart of Shadow back into his waist pouch before addressing one of them.
“Yuri, go investigate again. If there are no issues, we will act tonight.”
“I understand, Master.” The one named Yuri nodded respectfully and gently rubbed a ring in his right hand.
With his friction, wisps of black smoke mixed with a chilling aura emanated from the ring.
The smoke floated and coalesced in the air, then with a 'pop,'
a glossy-feathered Black Crow abruptly appeared, perching on his right shoulder.
He reached out to gently stroke the crow's body. A black rune flickered at his fingertips.
After a pause, Yuri softly murmured a spell. Then he lifted his shoulder and said,
"Go."
The crow blinked its white eyes and then spread its wings, flying out the door, disappearing into the sky.
As the crow flew away, Yuri's body transformed into wisps of Black Smoke that followed after it.
Watching Yuri leave, Sain revealed a look of relief in his eyes.
The black-robed figure beside him sighed. "Yuri is almost at Crystallization Level, isn't he?"
"Yes, pretty much." Sain nodded, a complex light flashing in his eyes. "This time when we leave Crimson Plain, I will give him the Crystallization Ritual and help him advance to Crystallization. My body can only hold on for three more years at most; by then, the hope of the Red Cross will depend entirely on these young people."
The black-robed figure said nothing but looked toward the empty sky with a hint of hatred in his gaze.
On the other side
A large tree stood outside the hotel room, and suddenly a black crow flew down from the sky, landing on a branch.
The crow had an eerie White Eye, with a black pupil that clearly displayed a flickering black rune.
Its gaze swept across the various windows of the hotel, finally settling on a lavish window on the far right of the third floor.
From there, wisps of light white smoke were seeping through the cracks of the window, mixed with a faint dampness and bitterness.
From the position of the large tree, it was vaguely noticeable that something seemed to be rolling inside the room.
The crow tilted its head and shifted its body a few times before spreading its wings and flying toward that window.
The black rune in its White Eye slowly rotated. The entire scene of the window became increasingly detailed and clearer.
At that moment, in its line of sight, a Woman in White Robes with Golden Hair was sitting upright on the bed with her eyes lightly closed, surrounded by a thick layer of green Moss.
Delicate buds were slowly growing on the wooden table and chairs, as if they had come back to life from lifelessness.
The entire room seemed to have transformed into a primordial wetland due to some unknown force.
This bizarre scene made the crow's pupils slightly contract.
Just as it wanted to fly closer for a clearer view, the woman sitting on the bed suddenly vanished.
"Chirp!"
A faint sound echoed as a thin azure line pierced directly through the crow's head.
"Caw!!"
A large mass of black feathers exploded, and the crow's entire body disintegrated into a cloud of black smoke.
Just as the smoke was about to dissipate, a delicate white hand reached out.
Freya, enveloped in white mist, looked expressionlessly at the pitch-black bead the size of a soybean that she had grasped in her hand.
She then turned her cold gaze toward a nearby carriage.
"Hmph!"
With a cold snort, her figure suddenly vanished.
"Bang!"
A muffled sound accompanied by a small cloud of dust followed.
In the next moment, Freya slowly appeared behind the carriage, holding a strange, tattered doll that was gradually turning into black sand flowing to the ground.
"Did you use a precious substitute doll combined with elemental abilities to escape?" Freya frowned as she looked at the doll in her hand.
She had just encountered the Guard Wizard and had no desire to provoke these beings again, especially since the appearance of strange phenomena over the territory of the Crimson Eagle would surely attract significant attention.
It was possible that the Crimson Eagle Guard Unit had already established a plan to pursue her.
At this time, she should have quietly returned to Lakefront Manor, but unexpectedly, those beings she had previously shaken off dared to come looking for her now.
However, despite the fact that they managed to escape earlier, she had still dealt them a significant blow. Even if they didn't die, they would be severely injured, and she was very confident in that regard.
Casually tearing apart a stuffed toy and tossing it to the ground, Freya looked at the Negative Energy Crystal in her hand, a faint killing intent flickering in her eyes.
"How dare they spy on a Second-Level Wizard? They truly do not know the meaning of danger."
Although she had concealed her true mental fluctuations with a hiding spell, if this person wasn't foolish, they would fully understand that she was not an ordinary First-Level Liquid Wizard.
Moreover, the phenomenon caused by her previous study of the King Cobra's legacy must have been witnessed.
Gently sniffing the air, Freya's azure pupils slowly transformed into green slit pupils as a smile crept onto her lips.
"Even though I deliberately concealed my energy signature, the smell of blood is still quite strong."
...
Meanwhile, in a hidden alley on Third Street, not far from the inn, Yuri leaned against the wall with wide-eyed horror. His face was pale as black blood trickled slowly from his eyes, mouth, nose, and ears. A fist-sized blood hole appeared in his chest.
The Thin Black Light, mixed with Azure Flowing Light, was wildly swirling in the Blood Hole, occasionally exploding into sparks.
Looking down at the large hole in his chest, Yuri's eyes revealed disbelief.
"That guy is definitely not an ordinary Liquid Wizard; this level of power..."
When Freya approached earlier, he had unhesitatingly used the life-saving card that Sain had given him, but he never expected to suffer such a blow despite that.
He didn't even have time to elementalize; it all happened in an instant.
"If my body hadn't already been completely elementalized, the consequences..." Yuri's pale face flashed with a hint of fear. "I must inform the teacher about this immediately!"
As he felt the Negative Energy from his body recklessly mingling with the Wind Element energy and pushing outwards, he paused for a moment before transforming into a black crow and flying into the sky.
Ten minutes later.
Yuri stumbled back into the house. As soon as he entered, he nearly collapsed.
However, he was caught by a figure in a black robe. The figure looked at the large hole in Yuri's chest and was momentarily stunned.
"What happened!? What took place?"
Inside the house, Sain heard the voice of the figure in black and quickly came out. But upon seeing Yuri's condition, his expression suddenly hardened.
He then reached out towards Yuri with both hands.
"Chh!"
A large expanse of black mist quickly enveloped the two with a hissing sound, emanating an unusually strong sense of danger from him.
"Are you crazy?!"
Looking at the approaching black mist, the figure in the black robe widened his eyes in disbelief.
However, at that moment, a ripple of azure suddenly erupted from the top of the black mist, revealing a silhouette from the shadows.
Under the blue light in the room, Freya looked at the black ring in Sain's hand with a hint of interest.
"Oh? You can actually see through my Concealment Secret Art? Hand that over, or I will kill these two below."
As she spoke, a powerful mental wave radiated from her.
The surrounding Energy Particles twisted the air, creating an eerie sensation that enveloped the room.
The two who were still conscious felt their expressions change drastically upon sensing this mental wave.
Facing Freya's gaze, Sain was drenched in cold sweat.
Although he had once been a Second-Level Wizard, his body had been cursed, causing his level to degrade. Now, his strength was comparable to that of an ordinary Crystalized Wizard.
"This esteemed lady," he rasped, his throat carrying a hint of pleading. "We did not mean to offend you; this is our compensation for you."
He took off the ring from his hand and respectfully handed it to Freya after wiping away the spiritual mark on it.
There was no conversation. Freya, upon receiving the ring, slightly sensed it with her mental power and immediately showed a hint of surprise.
"Wow. It's actually a rare Magic Weapon that enhances perception?"
She herself was an amateur Enchanter and carried several Cursed Items with her. However, this was her first encounter with a Magic Weapon.
Magic Weapons are a classification above high-level Cursed Items, with a wide range of functions and immense power. Unlike Cursed Items, they require no interval or guidance for use.
For a wizard, it serves as an additional Empowerment Spell.
The difficulty of creating a Magic Weapon is not comparable to that of Cursed Items.
Freya did not expect that casually tracking a rebel wizard would yield such significant rewards, and this person had wisely erased the spiritual mark, saving her a lot of time.
"Yes, my lady." Sain dared not wipe the cold sweat from his face and forced a smile. "Please let us go; we will leave the Crimson Plain far behind and never return."
"Is that so?" She did not immediately agree.
Tilting her head slightly, Freya narrowed her eyes as she looked at the terrifying-faced Wizard in front of her. Suddenly, she glanced at the black robe he wore and noticed a blood-red cross emblem on the right side of his chest. "It seems you are one of the wizards from the original Red Cross in Main City?"
"Yes, my lady, we are wizards from the Red Cross," Sain replied cautiously, unsure of what the powerful witch in front of him meant.
"Mm." Freya nodded gently and spoke calmly. "I remember that the Red Cross is a Wizard Organization specialized in Negative Energy. Besides Negative Energy, they also have extensive research on Ancient Beasts, am I correct?"
"That's right," Sain vaguely guessed Freya's meaning.
"That's good. I can let you go," Freya said with a slight smile. "However, you need to pay the price of two Magic Weapons and provide all your research results on Ancient Beasts, as well as your Advanced Meditation Method for Negative Energy. Only then will I release you."
Upon hearing Freya's demands, Sain and the black-robed figure beside him, who had not dared to move, turned exceptionally pale.
The Magic Weapons and research results were manageable, but the Meditation Method...
The Meditation Method was the ultimate foundation of the Wizard Organization, a legacy of the organization, and its greatest secret.
As long as the Meditation Method existed, it meant that the Wizard Organization still had a chance to rise again.
But Freya's demand for the Meditation Method was akin to wanting to sever the roots of the Red Cross.
Thus, both of them turned pale at her words.
Seemingly sensing their thoughts, Freya opened her arms and smiled as she spoke slowly.
"Hehe, there's no need to be nervous. My Meditation Method is not the original; you only need to provide me with a copy. I'm quite reasonable, and if you don't trust me, we can establish an Abyss Contract. How does that sound?"
Her tone carried an inexplicable sense of persuasion, and Freya had unknowingly activated her ability of mental corruption.
"I..."
Looking into Freya's eyes, which glimmered with a hazy green light, Sain's gaze seemed to grow dazed. He slowly stepped towards Freya, extending his hands toward his waist as if to retrieve something.
However, when he was less than a meter away from Freya, his confused expression suddenly changed. He quickly took out a fist-sized black sphere and crushed it fiercely, simultaneously shouting to the figure in the black robe beside him.
"Get out of here!!!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, the crushed black sphere suddenly expanded into a vast Pitch-Black Shadow, enveloping both Freya and himself.
The entire room seemed to be shrouded in darkness, except for the figure in the black robe and the unconscious Yuri.
The figure in the black robe was awakened by the pressure brought by Freya, and the words shouted by Sain still echoed in his ears.
Without even looking at the scene inside, he hurriedly picked up Yuri and turned to leave the room.
The Heart of Shadow actually serves as a sealing technique, capable of enveloping both the user and their target in a simulated subspace, controlling endless shadow attacks against the opponent until they are worn down to death.
However, since it is not a true subspace, this ability has its limits; either the shadows within must be completely eliminated or the user's mental energy will be exhausted. (To be continued...)
