Chapter Three Hundred Sixty-One:
Two months later.
In the Corrupted Swamp filled with purple mist, on a path paved with white stones.
Freya, dressed in a brown long dress, was holding a flower basket and scattering red powder into the swamp.
As soon as the powder touched the ground, it vanished completely, while a faint floral fragrance wafted through the air.
Her golden hair swayed slightly with her movements, and the corners of her mouth curled up unconsciously, making her appear in good spirits.
Once the powder in the basket was finished, she casually hung the basket on a large tree nearby and lightly snapped her fingers.
A circle of green ripples instantly spread out.
From the land she passed, tender green vines suddenly emerged, twisting and quickly climbing up the nearby tree, emitting a strange hissing sound like that of a snake.
Looking at the Magical Plants she had nurtured, Freya nodded in satisfaction.
“Shamanic Thorn Vines, a variant produced by being infused with the essence of the Tree of Life. It seems to be evolving towards the Saramanda Venomous Snake Vine. This activation effect is almost indistinguishable from that of an ordinary venomous snake.”
In just two months, the Tree of Life had grown to about half a meter, and besides its restorative properties, Freya discovered that it also had characteristics that could alter biological or plant evolution or reversion to ancestral forms.
The Thorn Vines were one of the plants where this reversion phenomenon was most evident during these two months.
“Perhaps in another two years, I can start attempting large-scale biological experiments.”
Compared to plants, the reversion of organisms might lead to the resurgence of Ancient Bloodlines. Most of these powerful creatures from Ancient Times have gone extinct, but a few have slowly evolved into weaker organisms adapted to modern environments.
If Freya's experiment succeeds, it would hold significant importance for both her own interests and understanding ancient history.
These snake-like vines hissed as they fully attached themselves to the tree and then remained motionless.
However, once any creature approaches, it will swiftly pounce, moving with terrifying speed.
After observing the Thorn Vines for a while, just as Freya was about to return to the estate to continue her other experiment, she noticed a black dot rapidly flying towards her.
The black dot moved incredibly fast, and in the forest, Freya could almost hear the sound of wind howling.
It was a large bird with a snow-white body but black wings, wearing a cleverly designed Felt Hat on its head. It looked somewhat comical.
Soon, the strange large bird flew above the forest, its orange-yellow eyes seemingly spotting Freya standing among the trees as it flapped its wings and circled around.
"Lady Freya, I have two packages for you. Please sign for them."
"Oh?" Freya slightly raised her head and immediately noticed that the bird was clutching a Black Bag in its claws.
After a moment's pause, she extended her hand and lightly swept it through the air. A ripple appeared in the air following her movement.
As if sensing the opening of a shield, the bird released its claws, allowing the bag to drop naturally. The black bag seemed to be enchanted with some floating magic like Light Feather, descending slowly and gently.
After dropping the bag, the bird circled in the air once more before flying back in the direction it came from.
Freya reached out to catch the item.
The Black Bag was not large, but it felt somewhat heavy in her hand. On the front of the bag was engraved a white feather-like rune that emitted a faint aura of power.
Feeling around inside, she sensed there were two metallic boxes.
"Is someone actually delivering packages to me at this hour?"
Curious, Freya casually tore off the seal on the bag and opened it directly.
Inside, there were indeed two metal boxes, one white and one red, and they were different sizes.
One of them faintly emitted a strong Bloodline Aura.
Freya noticed that the top of the white metal box was engraved with the mark of a roaring white bear, which was Klyent's Secret Mark.
The mark on the other box was a fierce Red Scorpion pattern, surprisingly coming from Nick.
"Nick?" Freya frowned as she looked at the red box.
She wasn't surprised by Klyent's package; after all, the two had been cooperating for several years, and Klyent occasionally brought her some local specialties from ruins as souvenirs.
However, her relationship with Nick had never been good. They had even fought not long ago. Although both were wizards from the Blood Eagle Territory, Freya thought they probably wouldn't have much contact in the future. Yet, unexpectedly, two months later, he sent her a package.
After pondering for a moment, she put away Klyent's white box and lightly touched the confidentiality seal on the box with a suspicious feeling.
As her finger made contact, a flash of Azure light surged, and the Red Scorpion mark suddenly ignited. The Scorpion hissed and screamed riddles before the red box opened automatically with a 'pop'.
Inside were two rolls of parchment tied with red string, and beside them lay a slender red stinger.
The edges of the stinger were lined with fine Fangs, while its base was white flesh, with strands of bright red blood hanging from it.
"What is this?"
Feeling the faint aura emanating from the stinger, Freya immediately recognized that this item came from Nick's monstrous scorpion.
Initially, she had crushed that monstrous scorpion with her Storm Hand. She estimated that even if it still had some life left, recovery would be impossible. However, it seemed that this item had some regenerative properties.
It appeared that Nick was still somewhat unwilling to give up by sending this over.
Ignoring the symbolic significance of the scorpion's stinger, Freya unrolled the two pieces of parchment. One was the complete record of the will severing experiment that Brian had wanted to exchange earlier, while the other was a peculiar circular Rune Array. The intersecting lines were filled with dense runes, most of which were used only by Ancient Wizards.
These ancient runes have been gradually replaced by Modern Wizards over time, with many more being eliminated throughout the course of history.
The ancient Rune Array requires not only mental strength to activate but also Bloodline Power as a catalyst.
Freya, due to her King Cobra Legacy, has some understanding of these ancient runes.
Looking at the ancient runes, she furrowed her brow and took them out of the box, examining them closely.
"This represents the power of the stars, this is the Void Rift, wisdom, Tower... oh, and life? What does this Rune Array signify?"
With her knowledge of Ancient Rune Arrays, she could only discern a few of the more easily understood rune meanings. However, there were still many other runes that she could not identify.
After studying for a while, Freya could only vaguely sense that these runes seemed to possess the ability to traverse space.
"Could it be a coordinate from another world, or perhaps a Summon Rune Array for an Alien Creature?"
While pondering this, Freya suddenly glanced at the bottom right corner of the parchment. There was a distinct black-and-white Lizard Pattern.
However, compared to other ordinary Lizards, this Lizard had only one large Cyclops on its forehead, occupying half of its head. The white Cyclops had concentric patterns, and the black dot representing its pupil seemed to be staring intently at Freya.
"This looks like a symbol of a Wizard Organization; it seems to be something passed down from Ancient Times."
Of course, the Wizard Organization from Ancient Times was, in some respects, even more prosperous than Modern Wizards. Trying to find relevant information based solely on this one symbol would be quite challenging.
"Perhaps I can conduct some experiments solely based on the runes."
Although these two items hold significant value, for Freya they merely represent two additional research directions in ancient knowledge.
"However, given that biological armor, the value of these two items is enough to offset that."
Freya knew a bit about Nick's thoughts. However, given her current schedule and time constraints, she did not have the extra energy to indulge him.
Freya placed the parchment with the Rune Array back into the red box and opened the white box. Inside, there was only a white eyeball, from which a strong Bloodline Aura emanated.
"Remains of an Ancient Beast, not bad this time."
After a long period of collaboration, Klyent knew that Freya was very interested in Ancient Beasts, so most of the souvenirs he sent were remains of various creatures, with a few being items or tools from ancient ruins.
She reached out to take the eyeball, which felt somewhat heavy, like a white stone.
Freya suddenly pressed her index finger down hard.
With a 'pop,' her finger pierced through the eyeball, and a yellow sticky liquid flowed out, accompanied by a smell reminiscent of sulfur and lime.
The sticky sensation transmitted through her fingers as a green light suddenly illuminated the back of Freya's hand.
From the liquid, strands of red gas immediately separated and merged into the mark on her hand.
Five minutes later, the liquid completely dried up, turning into white powder that fell to the ground. Freya slowly lowered the white eyeball in her hand.
A flash of green light flickered in her pupils.
"I've recovered about one-third of my Bloodline Power; the fluctuations in my mental energy will stabilize completely soon."
The first form's condensation required a large amount of powerful Bloodline energy. Even in most areas of Hell World, it was insufficient to meet Freya's needs. She planned to re-enter that strange cave once her mental energy stabilized.
After all, she had her mark there and wasn't afraid of losing her way.
Moreover, compared to her previous strength, Freya now had enough trump cards to handle any situation unless faced with a Dawn Level wizard.
Even with the existence of Dawn Level, she was confident in her ability to escape, a confidence that stemmed from her fusion with King Cobra through the Empowerment Spell after reaching level three and her thorough preparations during this time.
After spending some more time in the forest, Freya returned to the estate.
In the study.
Freya placed the red box she was holding into a drawer next to the bookshelf, then pulled out the High-Back Chair and sat down at the desk.
On the table, besides a few frequently read books, there were two thick stacks of white paper wrapped in brown covers, with a red Eagle Head emblem on top. These were various documents from the Rune Department of Blood Eagle Territory.
As an administrator, over the past two months, the Deputy Director had begun to assign her some matters to handle.
Perhaps due to Seth's influence, most of these matters were paperwork-related, with not many actual field tasks assigned, making her overall workload relatively light.
After opening the cover, Freya briefly reviewed several document reports when she suddenly noticed one that contained information from World Gate.
It was about the rune maintenance of World Gate and the isolation measures against World Power contamination there.
It seemed that due to World Power contamination, the surrounding environment, vegetation, and insects in this area of the Wizarding World had undergone significant mutations.
Although some suppression measures had been taken, this World Power contamination still had not been eradicated.
"The nature of World Power varies between different worlds; it was already anticipated that such changes would occur when they combined. The only effective methods to address this are through isolation or filtration via World Gate. However, it seems that none of the Rune Departments in major Wizard Organizations have developed technology that can completely shield against World Power. Some have only managed to minimize the contamination area or facilitate the relocation of ordinary people nearby. Others may even directly close World Gate to ultimately seal off the invasion of World Power."
After pondering for a moment, Freya set down the document report and picked up a Feather Pen to begin writing.
World Gate would certainly not be closed; recently, with various resource extractions from that Lower World, a considerable amount of profit had begun flowing into Blood Eagle Territory, significantly promoting its development.
The remaining solution was to implement regional isolation and evacuate ordinary humans, which was also the most conventional approach.
After finishing her writing, Freya stamped her Secret Mark at the end and continued processing the next documents.
Three hours later, all the documents had been organized together.
Freya leaned back in her chair, gently relaxing her body.
After resting for a while, she stood up and walked over to the bookshelf to take out the red box she had previously placed inside. She retrieved the parchment inscribed with the Ancient Rune Array.
"As for the runes, I remember that the Seth Family seems to have specific information on this. Now that the main experiments have come to a pause, it's a good time to study this."
After a pause, she raised her index finger, and a blue sparrow-shaped mark slowly appeared on her nail.
"Wen Li, please retrieve the information regarding ancient runes for me. I need to review it."
Soon, a clear female voice came from the mark.
"Lady Freya, do you need information on ancient runes from all periods, including those that have been discarded?"
"Yes, all of them."
"Understood. It will be delivered in three hours." (To be continued.)
