Chapter 383:
"Boom!!!"
In the distance, it was as if a layer of pure white curtain had been drawn, and everything was immersed in a pristine whiteness.
Freya turned her head, and the entire world seemed to revolve around her. The surrounding wizards were frozen in place, motionless, their mouths slightly agape in astonishment.
"What is happening?"
She extended her hand, her snow-white palm adorned with fine black lines, as if she had stepped out of a comic book.
In the distant sky, the Second Elder, dressed in a Red Robe, raised his right hand to shield his eyes. The hem of his robe was crumpled, as if swept by a fierce wind.
Beneath him, a slender White Light pillar pierced through the chest of the Inferno Giant, with fine black cracks spreading around the light beam, gradually extending across the Inferno Demon’s body.
"Zhi!"
This scene lasted only for a brief second before—
"Boom!!!!"
Another muffled sound echoed, and the colors of the entire world instantly returned.
The Black Airship, arranged in a triangular formation, suddenly split open at the front with a deep black crack.
The two Deputy Directors standing at the front of the Airship looked pale as they gazed into the distance.
The howling wind forced the nearby Red Eagles to lower their altitude to avoid being blown over.
Freya's eyes were slightly narrowed, and her heart was pounding for some unknown reason. Just moments ago, she even felt as if time had come to a standstill.
In the place where the white light invaded, the ground of Crimson was charred black, and beneath the Second Elder lay a deep, enormous black hole.
Thick flames and lava roared and churned within the pit, while the Inferno Giant had long since vanished without a trace.
"According to..." Seth looked pale as he gazed at the void of land in the distance, his voice trembling. "Fourteen years ago, several high-ranking officials from the Rune Department collaborated with the Elder Council to develop an extremely powerful weapon. It was improved and manufactured based on technology left behind by Ancient Wizards. No wonder..."
Seth did not finish his sentence, but Freya had already guessed what he meant.
The purpose of this abyss expedition was not merely due to the Abyss World encroaching on Blood Eagle Territory; it also served as a testing ground.
The air was thick with energy pollution, and some Abyssal Creatures that had not yet perished lay languidly on the ground. Their bodies seemed almost melted into the earth, emitting death throes more horrifying than those she had encountered in Hell World.
A heavy feeling lingered in Freya's heart.
"The Seventh Abyss will likely be finished after two or three more attacks like this. Even the world's powerful self-recovery abilities cannot cleanse such energy pollution within a hundred years."
However, regarding the plight of the Abyss World, she could only watch in a state of collapse.
In the air above the steaming ground, gray clouds had unknowingly gathered.
A drop of rain fell from the sky, followed by a continuous drizzle.
The cold drizzle shrouded the scorching battlefield in a veil of white mist. This mist floated aimlessly, transforming into one white shadow after another.
The sound of giant eagles flapping their wings occasionally echoed as massive Guardians' Wizards transformed back into human form, floating in the air and feeling both the heat and cold of this place.
The Abyss Dragon in the sky slowly retreated, while the monsters on the ground also withdrew like a tide.
This war had begun with such intensity, and from this, Freya vaguely understood the profound depth of Blood Eagle Territory.
The airship she was on, along with the three in front, gradually turned towards the World Gate behind them.
After the massive attack just now, although these airships appeared fine on the outside, some important internal equipment had already malfunctioned due to the intense vibrations. They needed to return for repairs.
In front, Edward and Meilong, two department heads, whispered to each other before Edward took off and flew towards another intact airship, leaving Meilong standing in place.
The other dozens of mid-level members from the Rune Department, including Freya, quietly awaited orders.
Meilong walked to the center of the deck and glanced at them. He paused slightly in front of Freya and Seth before retracting his gaze.
"Alright, this is just the beginning. However, the next phase of the battle will be handled by Second Elder and other units. Our mission in the Rune Department is nearly complete; we will return to headquarters to guard the World Gate and prevent any unexpected incidents. Understood?"
"Yes," several responded.
Upon hearing their replies, Meilong headed straight towards the cabin, seemingly to handle some matters.
The other wizards gathered in small groups, discussing something among themselves.
Freya walked to the gunwale of the airship. The Silver Defense Shield had been retracted, and a strange burnt smell lingered in the air after the rain.
Seth and another female wizard exchanged a few words before walking over to Freya, asking,
"How do you feel? This is your first time participating in a war between wizards, right?"
Without speaking, Freya simply nodded lightly, her gaze still fixed on the distance.
She had only experienced battles involving at most a hundred people, and this was her first encounter with such a scale of war.
Seeing Freya nod, Seth smiled wryly.
"Ha ha, this is my third time. The first time I was just an ordinary Second-Class Apprentice, and back then, the Blood Eagle Territory was merely a second-rate Wizard Organization."
Listening to Seth's words, Freya looked at everything with indifference, her mind lost in thought.
She had long been aware of the brutality of war from her previous life; however, when faced with such a scene in reality, she still felt a heaviness in her heart.
Even though this belonged to the chaotic Abyss World.
The significance of the Forest Kings was to guard the world. In Ancient Times, they were powerful beings that emerged from the world or products of the Collapse World Rule.
But after that war that affected the entire world, the structure of the Wizarding World changed completely.
Modern Wizards began to slowly rise to prominence, while the Forest Kings faded from history, buried deep within the earth alongside Ancient Wizards.
However, due to that war, the World Barrier of the Wizarding World became extremely weak, frequently resulting in World Rifts to nearby worlds.
Although these rifts were mostly beneficial for wizards, some posed significant dangers.
Many creatures from other worlds infiltrated the Wizarding World, forming a new biological chain.
For instance, the Sea Tribe was not originally part of the Wizarding World. In Ancient Times, they were a race from an Ocean World that accidentally arrived here near the Wizarding World.
Through historical evolution, they became what is now known as the Sea Tribe and occupied both the ocean and land, leading to endless conflicts with Human Wizards.
This could also be considered another form of subtle world invasion.
This situation is not unique.
The entire Wizarding World is subtly hiding various crises. However, it remains stable due to the powerful presence of wizards.
"Could it be that the existence of wizards, in a sense, is also maintaining the rules of the Wizarding World?" Freya furrowed her brow deeply. "What exactly is hidden in that vague history?"
"What?" Seth, who had been recounting past wars, tilted his head at Freya's murmuring.
"Nothing." Freya smiled lightly. "I just feel that the world is actually very fragile."
"Oh? What do you mean?" Seth raised an eyebrow, seemingly not understanding her.
A gentle breeze brushed against their clothes. Azure Sky slowly descended back over everyone’s heads.
Freya extended her palm, looking through the gaps in her hand at the ravaged Abyss World.
"It feels like it would shatter with just a little force."
"Is that so?"
Seth frowned slightly as he gazed at the gradually receding Abyss World. Although it was already far away, that dark hole was still faintly visible, like a deep black scar on skin.
Not paying attention to what was on Seth's mind, Freya turned and walked toward the cabin.
Different levels lead to different perspectives.
With Freya's current abilities, there are several ways to completely change the Seventh Abyss, which is a Lower World.
The natural abilities generated by King Cobra's first form are enough to turn the entire battlefield into a swamp.
However, all of this meant little to her.
...
Six months later.
In a laboratory within the White Villa.
Freya looked at the items on the Experiment Table with a complex expression.
It was a container filled with more than half of a transparent Azure Liquid, beneath which was a circular Rune Array glowing with a faint Red Light.
Small black particles detached from the Azure Liquid and floated into the air.
Setting down her tools, Freya gently rubbed her forehead.
"So this is it; this is the essence of Spirit. The fundamental difference from an ordinary soul lies in its purity and activity?"
After various experiments and deductions, what she concluded was that the Spirit, stripped of its peculiar abilities, had a greater density and was more pure compared to a simple soul.
Even if a small portion were removed, it could regain consciousness over time and form an independent entity.
From this, Freya also roughly deduced the key to advancing to Dawn Level.
"It means having a purely personal soul, using immense mental strength to stimulate and acquire a similar powerful activity as Spirit. This leads to the generation of what is known as Domain Ability based on one's attributes, and this Domain Ability can be considered the essential power of the soul."
Before obtaining the King Cobra Legacy, Freya rarely used external items to enhance herself for the sake of her own purity.
She could, her soul's purity was much more refined than that of ordinary wizards who relied on various potions or resources.
However, achieving such a fundamental transformation of the soul, even with sufficient mental power, would not be as quick as her previous promotions.
It required a gradual process, which was the safest method; after all, the fragility of the soul meant that any carelessness could lead to terrifying consequences.
"The mental power after the Third Peak has already stabilized. If I use this stimulating method, the fastest I could advance to Dawn Level would still take at least five or six years. This is mainly because my soul has few impurities. However, if I can find some Magic Weapons or other methods to stabilize the soul, perhaps the time could be shortened further."
Freya thought lightly as she looked at the Spirit Solution on the Experiment Table.
Of course, so-called soul Magic Weapons were considered treasures in their own right; even if they existed, they would be buried in the vaults of various Wizard Organizations and would never be available for other wizards to use.
"Forget it, I’ll just take my time," Freya said with a helpless shake of her head. "Moreover, compared to other wizards, my starting point is much higher. Five or six years is merely the duration of a large-scale experiment; it will pass in the blink of an eye."
The long lifespan of wizards made their perception of time quite vague, and even Freya was not immune to such thoughts.
However, since she had found her answer in her heart, she simply tidied up the Experiment Table and walked out of the laboratory.
Outside the villa, one could occasionally see Crimson Giant Eagles flying back and forth.
In the distance, the World Gate leading to Abyss World still stood tall, and now and then one could see a couple of massive Airships returning from within, accompanied by smaller white Airships.
After half a year, the Blood Eagle Territory's invasion into Abyss World had reached a mature stage.
The Elder Council and other high-ranking officials subtly hinted at making Seventh Abyss a dedicated testing ground for Blood Eagle Territory.
Although the powerful reproductive capabilities of Abyssal Creatures had delayed this plan somewhat, it was still progressing slowly.
What they needed to consider were merely the attitudes of other Abyss Worlds or Abyss Lords.
To know, the deeper Abyss Lords are not comparable to this low-level Abyss World. Some Abyss Lords derived from certain Abyss Worlds can even reach hundreds or thousands, and there is a greater possibility of encountering the Abyssal Demon King of Transcendence.
Such beings only exist in poetry or lore; even a mere avatar descending can cause a low-level world to collapse and separate.
Looking at the flying troops that occasionally appeared in the sky, Freya withdrew her gaze.
"The current situation has more or less stabilized. It seems I should make a trip to the City of Illusions. I wonder if Klyent has found any ancient materials over the years that contain what I seek."
The buried history of that ancient era piqued her curiosity, particularly the war and the various legacies of the Ancient Wizards, as well as the now-missing Forest King.
If one pays attention to the secrets of that period, they will find an abundance of them.
Freya even felt that the great war buried not only these historical secrets but also various civilizations of many biological races.
After all, the technological power unearthed from these ancient ruins has long shown that era was not inferior to the present, and in certain fields, it may have already surpassed this age, reaching a new level. (To be continued.)
