Chapter 408:
The gentle blue water had a faint sound like flowing milk.
Freya found herself in the stream, looking around. Next to the water, some translucent mermaids were swimming.
These mermaids, both male and female, had somewhat vacant expressions and were each holding a brown basket, swiftly moving in a certain direction.
It seemed they could not see her in the water.
As Freya curiously sensed the unique feelings brought by this spring's life forms, suddenly, her vision blurred. When it cleared, she realized she was in a desert.
Yellow sand filled her entire view, and strong winds blew the sand everywhere, making the air exceptionally dry.
Freya looked up at the sky; a translucent white sphere was flying off into the distance.
Within that sphere, she could faintly see a vast forest, with several giant two-headed birds flying above it.
Below the forest was a blue lake.
"It seems I came down from there. However, being able to observe the appearance of the Spatial Bubble with the naked eye here is truly amazing," Freya exclaimed. "This special form of space could potentially develop into a complete world if luck permits."
Once the Spatial Bubble completely disappeared from sight, Freya withdrew her gaze.
The strong winds and sand whipped through her long hair. As Freya scanned the desert, she noticed that here and there stood several Black Arches, slanted into the sand.
Some dried bones surrounded the arches.
"Are there still living creatures?" Seeing those bones, Freya quickly walked to the nearest arch.
Bending down, she picked up a thick bone that resembled a thigh bone and sniffed it at her nose.
"The smell of the sea, this is a corpse from the Sea Tribe. Oh? It even carries my scent."
Suddenly, she recalled the Sea Tribe and their city that had been expelled through the World Rule not long ago.
Casually discarding the bone, Freya raised her head to look around.
"I didn't expect to be exiled here. It seems I've truly entered the interstitial space this time. The composition of the space is also quite stable, so..."
After pondering for a moment, her figure suddenly vanished from where she stood.
When she reappeared, Freya was already in an Abnormally Ruined City.
The sky here was dark red, and wisps of black ash-colored dust filled the desolate city, exuding an eerie and decayed atmosphere.
Behind her stood a White Giant Tower.
Freya extended her hand to catch some of the dust, a strange expression flashing in her eyes.
"This city is rapidly decaying. I didn't expect it to be worse than when I last visited just over ten years ago. Moreover, it seems that the creatures that once existed here have completely vanished."
She still vividly remembered the various inexplicable things she encountered during her previous visit. However, with Freya's current knowledge, she had long since understood the specific origins of those things.
After some contemplation, Freya discarded the dust and turned to walk toward the White Tower behind her.
Five minutes later, Freya arrived at the foot of the White Tower and pushed open the wooden door to enter.
'Creek'
The wooden door opened, revealing a wooden staircase leading upwards. A thin layer of white ash covered the stairs, and there were scattered, clear footprints.
Seeing those footprints, Freya did not hesitate for long; after a moment's pause, she stepped directly into the White Tower.
As her foot touched the wooden steps, Freya felt a strong distortion in the space around her.
It was as if she were passing through countless transparent panes of glass, and various chaotic images suddenly appeared in her line of sight.
These images were real worlds, and Freya even felt that if she stopped moving, she would find herself in one of those worlds.
"Indeed, this is the World Tower; all the World Gates in this universe must have converged here."
In that instant, Freya even sensed a hint of the Wizarding World, a special resonance with the World Rule that perfectly matched her Royal Serpent Bloodline.
'Crack!'
The moment her foot landed, all the images in her eyes vanished. Freya turned to look out of the circular window.
The entire outline of the desert outside was now clearly visible. It was evident how high Freya was at that moment.
"Is this different from when I came here before? Could it be due to my strength? But it's strange that I haven't entered another world."
With a slight sense of confusion, Freya took another step forward.
However, this time her movement became unusually slow, as if something were deliberately pulling her back.
'Hiss'
At that moment, her golden hair unexpectedly turned green, and her figure grew taller. In an instant, she transformed into her first form.
"This is" Freya felt the changes in her body and turned around, only to find that her back was covered with dense threads. This made Freya pause slightly. "Is it because the rules of the Wizarding World are binding me, or is it simply that the distance to the world ahead is too far and has reached its limit?"
Her own Royal Serpent Bloodline was a manifestation of the rules of the Wizarding World. Although she had not yet fully become the true Forest King, the rules of the Wizarding World had already assimilated most of her body.
Therefore, once the distance became too great, she would face severe restrictions.
And when she completely became the King Cobra, these restrictions would become even more powerful.
"Damn it!!" Freya looked at the heavy threads behind her with a somewhat grim expression.
In this World Tower, she could clearly feel a special response, which was the remnants of 'Freya's' soul.
She believed that as long as she took a step forward, she could reach that place.
However, the rules of the Wizarding World directly restrained her. If she exerted too much force, it was likely that the King Cobra's Bloodline would be completely stripped away by the world, leaving her with nothing but her soul.
"Am I really going to give up like this?"
As Freya lifted her foot, scenes from various worlds appeared in her vision, but the countless threads behind her held her firmly in place.
In this delicate stalemate, a fierce look suddenly appeared on Freya's face.
"Nothing can bind my steps! If you want it, then take it!"
Boom!!
With a muffled sound, Freya's body suddenly ignited with emerald flames, and her entire form was completely engulfed by fire.
Amidst the flames, a massive Snake Head suddenly emerged in the narrow wooden staircase, followed by the entire gigantic body of the King Cobra.
Behind the massive body of King Cobra, the threads that were originally behind Freya began to expand.
In the end, they transformed into elongated green arms that tightly wrapped around King Cobra's body.
"Roar!!"
For the first time, the calm, pupil-less eyes of King Cobra revealed a look of anger.
"World!!"
A layered voice suddenly emerged from King Cobra's mouth, mixed with countless complex languages.
"You cannot stop me!!!"
With her roar, a green arm suddenly snapped behind King Cobra's body, taking a piece of flesh with it.
The pain of having flesh torn away made her let out a muffled roar once more.
'Crack! Crack!'
In an instant, the sound of breaking echoed continuously.
Before long, the once gigantic King Cobra was left with only a pale white skeleton.
However, countless flames continued to burn, supporting her.
Suddenly, King Cobra opened her Big Mouth and forcefully spat forward.
'Puff.'
A light blue flame suddenly erupted.
'Wow—'
Freya's figure materialized, gray streams of energy swirling around her light blue body.
She turned her complex gaze back to the enormous King Cobra, whose eyes had completely darkened, and then she took a decisive step forward.
As her foot landed, Freya felt her body ignite, and amidst the rising flames, a silver light grew increasingly bright.
"Time Power."
Feeling the most mysterious force that existed within her soul, Freya's gaze became even more resolute.
Before her, a simple wooden door appeared out of nowhere. A familiar aura wafted from behind the door.
She extended her burning arm and pushed the wooden door open, stepping through it.
'Sizzle.'
Her vision suddenly plunged into darkness, and her consciousness seemed to blur.
Time passed—perhaps it was an instant, perhaps hundreds of years.
When Freya abruptly opened her eyes, she found herself sitting in a dim corner, surrounded by faint lighting.
Not far away were several rough wooden tables, where a few armored figures and robed individuals were speaking loudly about something.
The faint scent of alcohol filled her nostrils.
"What is this place? A tavern?" Freya frowned slightly as she surveyed her surroundings.
Suddenly, she seemed to sense something and froze for a moment, then raised her hands.
"This is my body? What’s going on? Didn’t I remember abandoning my Bloodline?"
While she was lost in thought, a young man in a black robe walked straight toward Freya from the bar.
The man had white hair. His appearance was ordinary, but his eyes were strangely one blue and one red, looking very peculiar.
"Are you awake? How do you feel?" The man approached Freya and smiled.
"Huh?" Hearing the voice, Freya looked up. "Who are you?"
"I am the owner of Sunrise Tavern. You can call me Dolores," the man introduced himself with a smile.
"Sunrise Tavern?" Freya looked up and down at the man, and when she saw his mismatched eyes, her pupils constricted slightly.
A completely threatening aura emanated from those eyes.
Perhaps noticing Freya's focus, the man paused for a moment, then blinked, and his mismatched eyes suddenly dimmed, turning completely black.
"I'm sorry, I mean no harm."
"Is that so?" Freya frowned slightly. Although she didn't fully believe him, since he hadn't done anything, there was no need for her to overreact.
After a pause, she continued to ask.
"May I ask what kind of world this is? I will pay a certain reward if you answer me."
"Forget about the reward," said the man named Dolores, waving his hand. "I'll tell you directly; this is the World Root, a place that connects countless worlds."
"World Root?" Freya was slightly taken aback upon hearing this term.
The World Root is the core area of Transcendence and World Rule, supporting the operation of the entire world. If the World Root collapses, then the world will perish along with it.
However, she clearly remembered entering the World Tower to search for the world where Edgar once was, so why had she inexplicably ended up in the World Root?
While she was pondering this question, Dolores showed a strange expression beside her.
"I didn't expect you to dare transform in the World Tower. Didn't your World Heritage tell you how dangerous that method is? If it weren't for the incredibly solid structure of the World Tower, you would have been thrown into the infinite void and eaten by those Void Beasts."
"Huh? You know?" Freya looked at the man in front of her with surprise.
"Of course, I was the one who picked you up from the edge of the void," Dolores shrugged. "If I had been any later, even with your Time Power, you probably wouldn't have been able to change your fate of being devoured."
Listening to this person casually revealing her secrets made Freya feel as if he could see right through her.
After a long while, once she had almost fully digested this man's information, she continued, "Can you provide more specific details? I feel like some of my memories are missing. Also, what is the essence of Sunrise Tavern?"
"Actually, it's nothing much. I just happened to find you unconscious during my routine hunt for Void Creatures and brought you back. The Sunrise Tavern serves as a temporary resting point; it's that simple. Since you're a World Guardian, you should know this," Dolores paused before continuing. "By the way, which world are you from? I can sense that your aura is very chaotic; some of it even resembles my old acquaintances."
"I?" Freya thought for a moment and then replied somewhat confusedly. "I come from the Wizarding World. I don't know what World Heritage is; what is that?"
"Don't know about World Heritage?" Dolores exclaimed in surprise. "How can you be a World Guardian and not know about World Heritage? Is your world really that backward? Or are you from a primitive world?"
"I don't know," Freya shook her head. "I just came to the World Tower to find an answer, but I didn't expect to end up here."
"Is that so?" Dolores frowned, and then a faint light suddenly flashed in his left eye. Freya immediately felt something fly out from her body.
It was a mass of purple energy, quickly gathering in his hand.
Looking at the purple energy in his hand, Dolores smiled.
"Indeed, it's someone familiar. I think I know what you're looking for. You've met Edgar, right? That lecherous Wide-eyed one." (To be continued.)
