"Don't worry, Lin Fan, we'll be fine," Professor Zhang said, trying to sound calm, but a hint of panic was evident in his tone.
He knew they were in deep trouble. Wang Qiang was well-acquainted with the terrain of Misty Canyon and had been prepared for this, while they were completely ignorant of their surroundings, like prey trapped in a spider's web, helplessly watching themselves step closer to the abyss of death.
" Xiao Tang, can you sense Wang Qiang's location?" Lin Fan suddenly turned to Xiao Tang, a glimmer of hope flashing in his eyes.
Xiao Tang lifted her head. Her once-clear eyes had turned blood red, and a strange aura emanated from her. She sniffed the air and then pointed in a direction, saying in a childlike voice, "He's over there!"
"Great!" Lin Fan seemed to have grasped a lifeline. He pointed towards the direction Xiao Tang indicated and said to Professor Zhang, "Professor, let's go that way!"
Although Professor Zhang didn't understand why Lin Fan would trust a Zombie's words, he couldn't afford to hesitate any longer. Gritting his teeth, he drove the Camper Van towards the direction Xiao Tang pointed.
"Professor, trust me!" Lin Fan's urgent voice interrupted Professor Zhang's thoughts. He had initially wanted to dissuade Lin Fan from believing a Zombie, but seeing Lin Fan's determined gaze and confident tone, he ultimately chose to believe him; after all, they had no other options left.
Professor Zhang took a deep breath and slammed on the gas pedal. The Camper Van roared as it plunged into the thick fog, speeding towards Xiao Tang's indicated direction.
The fog grew thicker, visibility dropping below five meters. The Camper Van bounced along the rugged mountain road as if it might plunge off a cliff at any moment. Lin Fan gripped the overhead handle tightly while holding Xiao Tang protectively in his arms, fearing even the slightest harm would come to her.
Suddenly, a chilling roar echoed from deep within the fog. The sound was low and resonant, filled with wildness and ferocity that sent shivers down their spines.
"What was that sound?" Lin Fan's expression changed as an ominous feeling rose within him.
"Oh no, it's a Mutated Zombie!" Professor Zhang recognized the source of the sound, his face turning grave. "We've wandered into their territory!"
"Mutated Zombie?" Lin Fan felt a sinking sensation in his heart. He knew that ordinary Zombies were not terrifying; what truly scared him were those that had mutated. They possessed greater strength, faster speed, and even some special abilities like breathing fire or emitting electricity.
"Roar!"
Another deafening roar echoed as a massive off-road vehicle burst out of the fog. The vehicle stood over two meters tall, its body covered in spikes and steel plates, resembling a steel beast charging fiercely towards the Camper Van.
“Watch out!” Lin Fan shouted. Professor Zhang slammed the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the collision with the off-road vehicle, but still got grazed by its enormous frame, causing the Camper Van to shake violently.
“Hold on tight!” Professor Zhang yelled, driving the Camper Van forward in an attempt to escape the pursuit of the Mutated Zombies.
However, the off-road vehicle relentlessly chased them, skillfully weaving through the fog and continuously attacking the Camper Van.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
The Mutated Zombies in the off-road vehicle began shooting at the Camper Van, bullets hitting the body and making a crackling sound.
“Damn it!” Professor Zhang cursed. He knew that at this rate, they would eventually be caught; he had to find a way to shake them off.
“ Xiao Tang, can you sense where the exit is?” Lin Fan asked anxiously.
Xiao Tang closed her eyes, shaking her little head from side to side as if trying hard to perceive something.
“That way!” Xiao Tang suddenly pointed in a direction. Lin Fan immediately told Professor Zhang, “Professor, go that way!”
Without hesitation, Professor Zhang turned the vehicle towards Xiao Tang's indicated direction.
The Camper Van twisted and turned through the fog until it finally burst into an open area. However, before they could catch their breath, they saw a massive abyss ahead, and they were now at the edge of a cliff.
“It’s over!” Lin Fan closed his eyes in despair, knowing that this time there was no escape.
“No!” Professor Zhang let out a reluctant roar. He yanked on the handbrake in an attempt to stop the Camper Van from moving forward, but it was too late. The Camper Van, propelled by inertia, plunged off the cliff into the abyss.
“Ah!” Lin Fan exclaimed in shock as he tightly hugged Xiao Tang, feeling the sensation of weightlessness with the wind howling in his ears.
At that moment, Lin Fan felt a powerful force surging from within him. He suddenly opened his eyes and discovered that his hands were emitting a faint golden light.
"What is this..." Before Lin Fan could think further, he instinctively pressed his hands against the roof of the camper van.
"Boom!"
With a loud crash, the camper van stopped less than a meter from the ground. Lin Fan looked up and realized that he had actually supported the entire camper van with his hands.
"How... is this possible?" Lin Fan stared at his hands in disbelief, unable to comprehend how he possessed such immense strength.
"Xiao Fan, are you... are you okay?" Professor Zhang snapped back to reality, looking at Lin Fan with eyes full of astonishment and joy.
Lin Fan shook his head; he didn't know how he had done it, but he understood that now was not the time to ponder these things. They needed to leave quickly.
"Professor, let's go!" Lin Fan shouted as he exerted himself to push the camper van away from the edge of the cliff. Then he opened the door and jumped out of the vehicle, holding Xiao Tang in his arms.
"Roar!"
At that moment, an off-road vehicle caught up, and a Mutated Zombie on board let out an angry roar as it lunged toward Lin Fan.
" Xiao Tang, stay behind me!" Lin Fan shielded Xiao Tang and took a deep breath, a glint of determination flashing in his eyes. He clenched his fists and charged at the Mutated Zombie.
