"Lao Liu is back." 0

Yingfang and Song Yuegui were chatting in the living room. Upon seeing me, Yingfang stood up and said, "Looks like you've had quite a bit to drink. You should rest early, sister-in-law. I'm heading back now." 0

"Hey, let me see you off." 0

The two women stepped out into the night, one after the other. I leaned against the wall, watching as the house spun around me, the chandelier floating on the ground, the sofa flying in mid-air. I couldn't help but think, "This is bad," as gravity seemed to fail me, and I uncontrollably toppled over. 0

"Ouch, how much have you drunk?" Song Yuegui returned and roughly helped me up. "You can't go a day without drinking!" 0

I couldn't be bothered to respond and sank back into the soft sofa, my vision filled with the floating figure of Little Angel. 0

"Liu Junliang, wake up! I need to ask you something!" Song Yuegui's stern face grew increasingly unattractive, resembling a big white pig ready for slaughter. 0

"What is it? I want to sleep," I waved her arm away and turned over. 0

"Get up!" She was relentless. 0

"Stop bothering me..." My phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out, but before I could open it, Song Yuegui was eyeing me suspiciously. "Who is it?" 0

"A strange number! Take a look!" I was annoyed by her behavior and shoved the phone towards her face. "Look closely! I don't know who it is!" 0

"You're crazy!" she cursed. 0

I huffed and answered the call without waiting to speak first. The voice on the other end jolted me awake instantly. "Uncle Liu, it's Xiao Ran." 0

I sat up and got off the sofa, staggering as I leaned against the wall while walking towards the yard. Song Yuegui tried to follow but was deterred by my glare. 0

"Xiao Ran, what's wrong?" I struggled to stay alert. 0

"Uncle Liu, can you come to my house?" Xiao Ran seemed to be deliberately lowering her voice; I could barely hear her. "What's going on? Hurry and tell Uncle Liu." 0

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and I faintly heard sobbing sounds, which made me anxious. "What happened? Why are you speaking so softly? Did someone break into your house?" 0

"Uncle Liu, can you come over?" Xiao Ran's voice was barely above a whisper; she refused to say more. 0

"Okay, okay, I'll be there right away. You find a place to hide—under the bed or in the closet will do—just listen to me; I'm on my way." 0

After hanging up, I hurriedly pushed the bicycle parked under the sycamore tree and unlocked the gate's padlock. Just as I was about to leave, Song Yuegui caught up with me, her face hanging low as she asked darkly, "Where are you going? Who called you?" 0

"A student." Normally I might explain more, but since Xiao Ran was in a critical situation, I couldn't afford to waste time. 0

Song Yuegui grabbed the back of my bike seat with fierce eyes glaring at me. I glared back defiantly until she finally looked away after two minutes. "Do you smell all that alcohol on you? You're in such a hurry to see someone? Wait here; I'll get you a jacket at least to cover up." 0

Her sudden understanding caught me off guard as I stood at the door waiting for a moment. Song Yuegui came out of the house with a thin black jacket suitable for early autumn draped over her arm. She watched as I put it on and buttoned it up before reminding me again, "You're drunk; ride slowly and be careful... Come back early." 0

"I understand," I said without looking back, quickly heading towards Xiao Ran's home. 0

I can't remember exactly how long the journey took, only that when I got off the bicycle, my legs were trembling. I parked the bike downstairs and took the elevator to Xiao Ran's door. The hallway was dark, with only a thin sliver of moonlight streaming in through the window at the end, illuminating a small area. Taking advantage of this moonlight, I leaned against the security door to peek inside. 0

At that moment, I couldn't afford to be careless; Xiao Ran was inside, and if I startled any intruders, her safety would be at risk. To my surprise, as soon as my palm touched the edge of the door, it opened slightly on its own. I was startled and quickly stepped back. 0

"Uncle Liu, it's me," Xiao Ran's head popped out, her hair disheveled as she whispered softly. 0

"Are you okay?" My heart finally settled; Xiao Ran was safe, thank goodness. 0

I spoke quietly, but Xiao Ran put her finger to her lips and shushed me. She glanced back into the room, and I noticed her eyes were red and her eyelashes wet; she must have been crying. 0

"Follow me," she said, taking my hand and tiptoeing into the house. 0

I couldn't help but feel tense as well, fully alert and prepared to confront any intruder. The living room was pitch black, and several doors were tightly shut in silence. Only one room on the right had light spilling out from under the door; judging by the layout of the house, it should be a bedroom. 0

Were the intruders in there? 0

Xiao Ran pulled me outside the door and pointed at it; I could hear voices coming from within. 0

First, a woman said, "Be quiet; otherwise, I might scream and wake up Xiao Ran." 0

Then a man replied with heavy breathing, "Scream if you want; this house has good soundproofing; she won't hear." 0

"Um—" The woman moaned softly and continued hesitantly, "From now on... don't pick me up from school... ah—it's not good if someone sees." 0

"Not good? What's wrong with that?" The man spoke amidst increasingly intense sounds of physical contact. "Is it my fault or my skills?" 0

"I'm serious... huff... you're a parent; I'm a teacher. If people at school see us... ah, I can't take it anymore—" 0

After that, there was no more conversation, only two bodies instinctively mating. 0

My blood boiled as I listened; Xiao Ran's grip on my hand tightened more and more, her soft nails digging into my palm without causing pain but stirring a wave of affection within me. 0

I should have covered her ears; she was too young to witness such things. For some reason, I didn't do that and allowed the sounds of their debauchery to slip into her ears without restraint. 0

Finally, they finished inside. There were low growls, rustling sounds, heavy breathing, and the sound of tissues being pulled. The man spoke again: "I told you to move in with me; we could be together every day. You insisted on staying in that rundown rental of yours." 0

"Aren't you living at your company?" the woman replied weakly. 0

"As long as you move in, I'll come back to live here immediately." 0
"No, I have a job and the ability to rent my own place. Why should I live with you? As an independent woman of the new era, I won't rely on any man." 0
"Here we go again. Can't you just come over to help me take care of Xiao Ran? Don't you care about her? She's home alone on the weekends, aren't you worried?" 0
"I'm her homeroom teacher, so of course I care about her, but only at school. Outside of that time, she is your responsibility, so don't push that onto me." 0
