Su Xingchen and Lin Xi walked out of the lounge, one after the other, navigating through the chaotic crowd backstage to reach the back door of the concert venue. Under the night sky, neon lights flickered, casting a dreamlike glow over the entire city.
"Get in the car first," Su Xingchen said softly to Lin Xi, while vigilantly observing his surroundings.
Lin Xi didn't say much; he simply gave him a deep look, nodded, and opened the car door to sit inside.
Su Xingchen didn't get in right away. He stood still, scanning every corner around him, trying to catch any sign of something unusual. However, apart from the bustling staff and a few scattered fans, he didn't spot any suspicious figures.
"Am I overthinking this?" Su Xingchen mused to himself, but he didn't let his guard down. He trusted his instincts; that unsettling feeling lingered in his mind, refusing to fade away.
Taking a deep breath, he was about to get in the car when suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a shadow darting past under a nearby streetlight. It moved so quickly that if he hadn't been so sharp-eyed, he would have almost missed it.
A chill ran down Su Xingchen's spine as an ominous premonition surged within him. He kept quiet and pretended nothing was amiss as he opened the car door and sat inside.
"What's wrong?" Lin Xi noticed his unusual behavior and asked with concern.
"Nothing, let's go," Su Xingchen replied, shaking his head and signaling the driver to start.
The black sedan slowly pulled away from the concert venue and merged into the bustling street.
Sitting in the back seat, Su Xingchen appeared to casually glance out the window while actually maintaining a high level of vigilance, paying attention to everything happening around them.
Sure enough, not long after, he spotted that shadow again. It was like a ghost, always keeping a certain distance from their vehicle—neither too far nor too close.
Su Xingchen calmly took out her phone from her pocket and edited a text message to Lin Xi: "Be careful, we are being followed."
Lin Xi received the message, her expression slightly changing, but she did not panic. Instead, she calmly raised her head and observed the situation behind the car through the rearview mirror.
"Don't look back, pretend you don't know anything," Su Xingchen whispered as a reminder.
Lin Xi nodded in understanding.
The black sedan continued to drive forward and eventually stopped in front of a high-end hotel.
"We're staying here tonight," Su Xingchen said to Lin Xi.
"Okay," Lin Xi replied, and the two of them got out of the car one after the other and walked into the hotel lobby.
Su Xingchen deliberately slowed her pace, creating some distance between herself and Lin Xi while keeping an eye on the movements behind them with her peripheral vision.
Sure enough, the shadow followed them into the hotel and trailed them to the elevator entrance.
Su Xingchen and Lin Xi entered the elevator and pressed the floor button. The elevator doors slowly closed, blocking the shadow outside.
"Ah..." Su Xingchen let out a long sigh, finally feeling relieved.
"It seems tonight won't be peaceful," Lin Xi said softly, her tone carrying a hint of seriousness.
Su Xingchen nodded slightly, a glint of determination flashing in his eyes as he said in a deep voice, "I've made arrangements. Tonight, I'll have a good time with them!"
"Don't think about that for now; it's time to go on stage." Su Xingchen offered a reassuring smile and patted Lin Xi's shoulder.
Lin Xi took a deep breath, nodded, adjusted Su Xingchen's performance outfit, and whispered, "Be careful."
With confidence, Su Xingchen stepped onto the stage, the spotlight instantly enveloping him as thunderous cheers erupted from the audience. He smiled slightly and raised his hand to greet his fans. As the music began, he immersed himself in the song, casting aside all his worries.
However, in a dark corner where the stage lights did not reach, a pair of eyes was fixated on Su Xingchen, gleaming with malicious intent. This person was an assassin sent by Ye Qingtian, tightly gripping a remote control and waiting for the perfect moment.
As the song concluded, the audience erupted into applause, and Su Xingchen bowed in gratitude. At that moment, he keenly sensed a slight tremor on the stage, setting off alarm bells in his mind. He looked around and noticed several beams of light beginning to flicker erratically, while the central lift of the stage also exhibited unusual shaking.
"This is bad; someone is up to something!" Su Xingchen realized instantly. He continued to maintain his enthusiasm for the performance while discreetly moving toward the edge of the stage.
