Work had ended, and it was already three in the morning. Originally planning to catch a taxi home, Anna found a driver waiting in front of the car.
Her colleagues, who had left together, cast envious glances at the scene.
"Wow, Anna, your family is so wealthy!" Dong Wan exclaimed, nearly unable to close his mouth in surprise.
"Yeah, if you're that rich, why come here to suffer?" Park Soo Eun mocked, glancing at Anna before walking toward the taxi waiting area.
The other colleagues whispered among themselves. Feeling a bit flustered, Anna said to Dong Wan, "This isn't my car; it's my brother's."
"Alright, no need to be so nervous. I'm not going to borrow money from you," Dong Wan joked. "I'm leaving now." With that, he turned and walked away.
Anna felt somewhat helpless as the driver opened the car door, and she hurriedly got in.
The house was dark; thinking Andy had already gone to bed, Anna opened the door herself. The moonlight was bright, and she vaguely saw a silhouette sitting silently in a rattan chair by the window. Startled, she took a closer look and realized it was Andy, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.
"Why didn't you turn on the lights?" Anna asked as she switched on the lights and walked over to Andy. A strong smell of alcohol hit her nose. Frowning, she asked, "Have you been drinking? You never used to drink."
Anna sat beside Andy and could sense his unspoken struggles. He was her closest relative, and his pain made her heart ache. How much suffering must he endure to choose to cover it up with something he despised?
"Sometimes alcohol can be a good thing; it helps people forget their troubles. When you drink, your throat hurts but your heart doesn't; your body warms up and your heart feels less cold," Andy said with a slight smile, his voice somewhat hoarse.
Anna wrapped an arm around his shoulder and said, "We'll always be together; there's nothing to be afraid of. No matter what happens to you, remember that your sister will always be by your side."
Andy smiled back. "Hey, you were only born two hours before me."
"That still means I came first."
"What use is it? I've been protecting you since we were kids. You're afraid of the dark, afraid of heights, afraid of water, and you always get bullied by the boys in class. It's always been me helping you," Andy said.
"Aren't you the same? You don't do laundry, you don't make your bed, you can't cook. It's still me taking care of you," Anna replied with a smile.
Suddenly, like before, they joked and teased each other. Both felt a sense of nostalgia but remained silent, understanding each other without words. There was a bond that didn't need to be articulated, a deep connection forged by blood that could not be severed or unraveled no matter how much time passed.
In these two days since their reunion, Anna finally felt that Andy had truly come back.
Ding ding ding~~
The phone rang, and Anna picked it up. It was Lee Kwang-soo calling.
"Who’s calling you at this hour?" Andy asked.
"Brother Kwangsoo," Anna replied.
Andy smiled knowingly and lowered his head.
Anna answered the call.
"Hello, Brother Kwangsoo. Why are you calling so late?"
"I figured you'd be finishing work around this time, so I called."
"When did you become so smart?"
"I've always been this smart," Lee Kwang-soo said with a laugh. "Are you free tomorrow? Want to hit the gym together?"
"No, I plan to invite Sister Jihyo to go with me tomorrow."
"Ah, Sister Jihyo is going to Yeosu tomorrow with Jung Kook to participate in a program recording. You didn't know that? Besides, everyone is at the same gym, okay?"
"Really? Alright."
"Then it's settled, tomorrow at two in the afternoon."
"Okay..."
After hanging up the phone, Anna pressed the button to find Andy looking at her with a big smile. Confused, she asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Lee Kwang-soo? The tall guy who used to live across from us?" Andy asked with a grin.
"Yeah."
Andy smiled even wider.
"What are you laughing about?" Anna still felt puzzled.
Andy shook his head, stood up, and walked toward his bedroom, saying, "Nothing, just hurry up and wash up for bed."
Anna followed him upstairs, the spacious room filled with laughter and noise.
