Two days later, it was another filming day for Running Man. Previously, Anna had mentioned to Zhao PD that she was injured, but she only said that she had slipped and fallen down the stairs. That incident might forever remain a secret known only to a few, including the unknown mastermind behind it.
Who would know about the situation on SBS's big holiday? Who would know how to choose a route that cleverly avoids all surveillance? Who would know where the most obscure places in SBS are? Who would be so familiar with Anna's circumstances? And who was that long-haired woman?
Every night, Anna would wake up in a cold sweat, startled, feeling as if a devil was hiding nearby, wanting her blood as an offering.
What kind of hatred could make someone despise themselves so deeply?
From a distance, Dong Wan saw Anna limping ahead and quickly ran over to support her. With his help, Anna felt much more at ease.
"Thank you, Dong Wan," Anna said with a smile.
Dong Wan looked at her face and was somewhat surprised. "How could you have fallen so badly? You seem to have lost a lot of weight."
"I slipped accidentally," Anna replied.
"Oh dear, you really are clumsy," Dong Wan said as he reached the elevator and pressed the button.
Because the elevator was slow, Anna and Dong Wan ended up being the last two to arrive, and they were five minutes late. Everyone from the Task Force was already waiting since they were required to arrive two hours early for today's hidden filming of the Members.
"Sorry," Anna and Dong Wan apologized to the others.
Anna added, "It's not Dong Wan's fault; I made him late."
Everyone looked at Anna's bruised face. Although they were somewhat displeased, they couldn't blame her any further.
Miao PD said, "Come on, we were just waiting for you two."
The two agreed and took their seats.
"Anna, you're limping now. Later, you'll have to help Jae-seok with his microphone while pretending we haven't started filming yet. Then we can observe the Members' reactions."
"What?" Anna was confused. "Is today's hidden filming about this content?"
"It wasn't originally, but then I thought, rather than pretending a scene, why not perform it in reality? It's more authentic. Plus, it reminds you not to fall down the stairs again next time," Miao PD joked.
Anna knew that although Miao PD was joking, he was actually concerned about her, and everyone started to laugh.
Anna smiled slightly, nodded, and said nothing more.
The brief work arrangement quickly concluded. Anna limped away to attend to her tasks when Park Soo Eun approached her. Anna thought she would be met with more sarcasm, but instead, she pulled out a wooden cane from behind her.
At first, Anna was startled, thinking she might be intending to hit her.
"Here you go," Park Soo Eun said as she handed the cane to Anna.
"What is this?" Anna asked, a bit surprised.
"I got it from the props room; you should find it useful," Park Soo Eun replied with her usual haughty demeanor.
However, Anna felt warmth in her heart and smiled as she said, "Thank you, Sister Park."
"I'm just worried you'll slow down the work progress. Don't think you're special just because you're injured. By the way, don't forget to return it after you're done; I need to switch it back," Park Soo Eun said before turning and walking away.
Anna looked at the wooden cane in her hand and felt much comforted.
"What's wrong? Who gave that to you?" Dong Wan asked as he noticed Anna staring at the cane in a daze and walked over.
"Sister Park. Surprising, isn't it?" Anna replied with a smile.
"Well, it's not surprising. That sister is tough on the outside but soft on the inside. She's a bit strict with newcomers, but as long as you put in the effort, she'll treat you well."
"Really? So does that mean everyone is gradually accepting me?" Anna asked.
"What do you think?"
Anna remained silent.
Dong Wan happily said, "Of course, I'm slowly accepting you. By the way, hurry up and check if the cameras are set up. This segment will depend entirely on us."
"Okay." All the negative emotions were dispersed in that moment, as if the pain from her injuries had lessened.
Zhao PD and Miao PD had gone to other scenes, leaving only a few staff members at the site, pretending that everyone had just arrived at the work location.
The members arrived one after another, thinking that the cameras were not on, so their behavior was somewhat relaxed.
As expected, the first to arrive was Yoo Jae-suk. According to the process, Anna played her role naturally, limping and lowering her head to help Jae-seok adjust his microphone. Jae-seok had two assistants helping him with his clothes, and Anna deliberately went around to Jae-suk's back to assist him. She thought Jae-seok wouldn't notice, but unexpectedly, just as Anna was about to leave the stage, Yoo Jae-suk suddenly said seriously, "Anna, what happened to your leg?"
"It's nothing, Brother Jae-seok. I just fell," Anna replied.
Jae-seok clearly looked displeased and said to Dong Wan, who was standing nearby, "Dong Wan, Anna is injured. Please help her with her work."
After that, he inquired about Anna's condition and then called Zhao PD to explain the situation. He hoped Zhao PD would temporarily assign Anna tasks that required less movement.
Although it was all part of the program process, Anna felt an overwhelming warmth in her heart. For the first time, she felt like she truly belonged here.
