Seeing the name Park Chan-yeol flash on her phone screen, Anna felt a bit dazed as she slowly pressed the answer button. Park Chan-yeol's voice came through the receiver.
Safe and sound... Anna felt her entire body relax suddenly.
A smile appeared on her face that she hadn't even realized was there.
"Hello? Anna?" Park Chan-yeol probably didn't expect to receive a call from her.
"Yes, it's me," Anna replied, suddenly unsure of what to say.
"My phone died, I just turned it on and saw that you called. What's up?" Park Chan-yeol said.
Anna didn't know how to respond. Should she tell Park Chan-yeol that she called to check if he was still alive? She smiled lightly and said, "It's nothing, I just wanted to ask if you've arrived in Korea."
"I just got here not long ago. By the way, there was an incident with a flight ahead of us. Did you... call to ask about that?" Park Chan-yeol asked.
"Oh, really?" Anna pretended not to know and said, "There was an incident? I haven't seen the news yet."
"Ah... I see..." Chan-yeol murmured.
"Make sure to rest well; I won't disturb you any longer," Anna said with a smile.
"Alright," Chan-yeol said.
"Goodbye."
After hanging up, Anna didn't quite understand why she couldn't tell Park Chan-yeol the truth. Andy's call came in, but Anna suddenly didn't feel like answering. She felt so exhausted; throughout the day, her emotions had fluctuated so much that she was utterly drained. The sky was gradually darkening, and she felt a bit hungry. It wasn't time for bed yet; she needed to sneak out to buy some supplies for treating her wounds and grab a bite to eat.
After chatting briefly with Andy, Anna hung up the phone. She washed her face to refresh herself, changed her clothes, and headed out.
At the hotel entrance, Kim Jong Kook, Haha, and Lee Kwang-soo were waiting for a taxi, likely going out for some fun. Anna quietly stopped in her tracks, standing at the corner until she saw them get into the taxi before stepping out.
In Japan, there is a pharmacy approximately every kilometer, so there was no need to take a taxi. As the streetlights began to glow, it was a beautiful time of day. To relax from the day's tension, Anna walked along the surprisingly quiet road. The sun had completely set, and the air was much cooler. The trees along the roadside stood still as birds rested and insects began to chirp. In each small yet exquisite wooden house, lights twinkled in the windows where families enjoyed dinner together. At the table, a little dog looked eagerly at the food on the table, waiting to see if its owner would accidentally drop something on the floor. It was so peaceful and beautiful; this brief moment was the most relaxed Anna had felt in a long time.
She took out her phone, opened her music app, and put on her headphones as beautiful yet somewhat melancholic melodies flowed into her ears. Anna remembered how she had been moved to tears when she first heard singer Jaejoong perform this song. She couldn't tell if it was his deeply emotional gaze while singing or the beauty of the melody that touched her heart's softest spot unexpectedly.
"Perhaps we are like people living in complicated fates, entangled with each other. I make mistakes every day, carrying debts I can never repay you. Sometimes we are like lovers and sometimes like strangers; is it okay to continue living like this? Even with so many mistakes and separations, you will always be there. The only reason I live in this world is you; to avoid regret this time, I must hold onto you tightly..."
A gentle breeze blew by, lightly lifting Anna's light blue dress and stirring a few strands of hair. What girl hasn't had dreams? Dreams of a day like this one—an afternoon walking on a quiet path with trees lining both sides, feeling a breeze and hearing distant songs while being accompanied by someone special—perhaps that person is the love of her life.
After buying gauze, disinfectant, and ointment to promote healing at the pharmacy, she unexpectedly ran into Ji-hyo as she stepped outside.
"Anna?" Ji-hyo smiled at her.
Anna was startled and quickly hid what she was holding behind her back, awkwardly smiling as she said, "Sister Jihyo? What brings you here?"
Ji-hyo noticed her unusual behavior and observed her suspiciously, saying, "I have a bit of a headache. How about you?"
"I... I do too," Anna said with a stiff smile.
