After a night of intense writing, Ye Tian finally completed his task. Having focused for too long while sitting on a small stool, he now felt sore all over; every movement of his neck was accompanied by a cracking sound.
"I'm so tired..."
Ye Tian stood up and stretched widely. According to the discussion between Xuanyuan Changfeng and Wine Kid yesterday, they would hold an Apprenticeship Ceremony for Wine Kid this afternoon. Therefore, Ye Tian needed to take advantage of the time to rest; the morning would pass in the blink of an eye.
He pushed open the window, and a refreshing mountain breeze rushed in, instantly invigorating Ye Tian, although his intention was merely to breathe in some fresh air.
The morning air in the mountains was very fresh. Due to the lush vegetation, there was a slight humidity in the air that gave off a sweet sensation, making it quite comfortable.
The mountain breeze reduced Ye Tian's drowsiness significantly, so he decided to take a stroll. After all, he had just arrived and was still unfamiliar with everything in the mountains.
Stepping out of his room, Ye Tian looked around. In front of him were three small paths: one leading down the mountain, another towards the Cloud Viewing Stone Platform, and the left path which he had not yet taken. He decided to head that way.
Just as he started moving, Ye Tian suddenly sensed two people approaching. He couldn't gauge their strength but could tell they possessed Skyward Martial Arts. Both were men; he deduced this from their murmured complaints as they hurried along.
"Li Xun?" The first face that popped into Ye Tian's mind was Li Xun's. Being new to this place, he ruled out Yun'er and Cold Moon since they were women. Wine Kid's Skyward Martial Arts couldn't reach such speed either, so it must be Li Xun coming to find him. Of course, if it really was Li Xun seeking him out, it certainly wouldn't be for anything good.
What is meant to be will be; since Li Xun had come looking for him, Ye Tian decided not to leave. After all, he was bored anyway; it would just be a fight.
Moreover, Ye Tian wanted to test the power of the fusion between Crimson Dragon Golden Blood, Second Spirit Pouch, and Three-Stage Martial Artist's Martial Origin Power.
Having made up his mind, Ye Tian turned back and sat down at the door. He casually plucked a piece of wild grass and chewed on it while waiting.
Moments later, the footsteps of the two men grew closer but had already ceased using their Skyward Martial Arts. They were just around a bend in the path; once they passed that turn, they would see Ye Tian waiting for them.
"Is this it?"
"It should be..."
Hearing the voices, Ye Tian frowned slightly, as neither of the two voices belonged to Li Xun, but they sounded somewhat familiar.
Just as Ye Tian was searching his mind for the owners of the voices, the two individuals turned the corner and appeared before him.
"It's you..." Ye Tian said, slightly surprised, for standing in front of him was none other than Zhang Bin, who had previously claimed that he could be consulted if there were any questions.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Bin was clearly taken aback. In his previous impression, Ye Tian was a humble and polite young man who did not flaunt his status. Before coming here, he had boasted to those around him that even a direct disciple of the Lord would have to respectfully address him as Senior Brother.
However, what Zhang Bin did not expect was that Ye Tian had an expression as if he were ready to fight, with a blade of grass in his mouth, questioning him with a strange look...
Seeing that the person before him was not Li Xun, Ye Tian was momentarily stunned and instinctively said "it's you," though that was not his true intention. Now that he had reacted, he immediately spat out the grass, stood up straight, and approached Zhang Bin with cupped hands, saying seriously, "Brother Zhang, what brings you here today?"
Zhang Bin returned the gesture and smiled, "Oh, nothing much. I just thought I'd come see my younger brother since I had some free time."
As he spoke, Zhang Bin casually placed a hand on Ye Tian's shoulder and slightly tilted his head back, looking quite pleased with himself.
Although Ye Tian found this action quite distasteful, he did not resist too much out of courtesy. It was clear that Zhang Bin was showing off to the disciple who had come with him. His expression practically screamed: This is my buddy, a direct disciple of the Lord!
Ye Tian couldn't help but chuckle inwardly at his own helplessness and felt no sense of pride from being flaunted by someone else.
The disciple who came with Zhang Bin was also quite young and appeared to be about the same age as Ye Tian. However, after running here, he seemed to be breathing heavily and had a slight sheen of sweat on his forehead. This indicated that although he possessed Skyward Martial Arts, his strength was somewhat lacking; he must have just recently entered a level of Martial Mastery.
Thinking about this made Ye Tian's thoughts drift away.
Once upon a time, in the years of Spirit Martial Town, Martial Mastery was still referred to as the realm of the strong. Ye Tian, at the beginning, envied those who could achieve Martial Mastery, feeling that it was an insurmountable peak.
Now, time has flown by. Although only two or three years have passed, after experiencing numerous events, the term Martial Mastery has lost its significance for Ye Tian. In his eyes, anyone who cannot reach the level of a Five-Stage Martial Artist can be bluntly called weak.
Because with Ye Tian's current strength, he is invincible among peers when he goes all out!
Even against a Five-Stage Martial Artist two levels above him, he is confident that he can put up a fight.
"Brother?" Zhang Bin cautiously called out to the dazed Ye Tian.
Ye Tian snapped back to reality upon hearing this. The way Zhang Bin addressed him was overly warm, revealing his ulterior motives. Logically, Zhang Bin should refer to Ye Tian as Junior Brother; the use of "Brother" clearly indicated a desire to show their close relationship.
However, in reality, they hardly had any personal connection.
Ye Tian was unsure of Zhang Bin's intentions. If it were merely a matter of vanity, he wouldn't bother to respond. But if there were other motives at play, Ye Tian couldn't let him succeed.
"Please come in," Ye Tian said as he stepped aside to let them through.
Zhang Bin laughed heartily and strode in confidently, followed by the Young Disciple, whose expression was somewhat grim.
Once inside, Ye Tian prepared tea, serving Zhang Bin first and then the Young Disciple.
This seemingly casual act was intentional on Ye Tian's part; he wanted Zhang Bin to feel that he regarded him highly and that their relationship was not merely superficial.
Sure enough, Zhang Bin's expression brightened even more. He lifted the tea bowl and drank it all in one go, becoming somewhat arrogant and failing to express any gratitude for Ye Tian personally serving him.
Seeing this, Ye Tian secretly chuckled. Once a person becomes arrogant, they are prone to mistakes. It wouldn't be long before Zhang Bin revealed his hidden agenda.
At this moment, the Young Disciple was not drinking tea but was frowning and secretly observing Ye Tian. Naturally, Ye Tian noticed this behavior, but he did not show it.
"Junior brother, do you know why I came today?" Zhang Bin began to speak after having some tea, but at this moment, he gave Ye Tian the impression that he had just drunk a jar of strong liquor, as there was a hint of lightheadedness in his words.
Ye Tian smiled and shook his head while gesturing for the Young Disciple to drink tea.
This action sparked a hint of jealousy in Zhang Bin's eyes. In his mind, Ye Tian should not pay any attention to the Young Disciple and should adopt an arrogant and condescending attitude towards him. This would demonstrate that his friendship with Ye Tian was not merely due to Ye Tian's amiable nature.
Of course, Ye Tian's action was intentional; he wanted to provoke a change in Zhang Bin's mindset.
"Thank you." The Young Disciple still did not drink the tea but offered a thank you this time. His age was similar to Ye Tian's, and he could not see what was so special about Ye Tian. Yet, he was the direct disciple of the Lord, while he himself was just a novice, which made him feel a sense of resentment.
This feeling stemmed from youthful arrogance, a common issue among young people who always believe they are no less capable than anyone else. They think that their failure to reach certain heights is solely due to bad luck or being born at the wrong time.
Such thoughts lead them to compare themselves with others; they cannot stand seeing their peers surpass them and are even less able to tolerate those who are stronger looking down on them.
But Ye Tian was different; he was surprisingly kind and showed no signs of sharpness. Despite rumors that he had rejected the Lord's personal welcome and publicly humiliated the eldest disciple Li Xun...
"Junior brother..."
Seeing that Ye Tian seemed overly enthusiastic towards the Young Disciple, Zhang Bin couldn't help but try to draw Ye Tian's attention from the side.
"By the way, Brother Zhang, what brings you here today?" Ye Tian saw that his actions were having an effect and thus got straight to the point.
Zhang Bin's expression darkened slightly upon hearing this. Ye Tian's question clearly indicated that there was no personal connection between them.
"Junior brother..."
"We are here on the orders of Li Steward to deliver this general matter to you." The Young Disciple interrupted Zhang Bin's words, as he had already realized at this point that Zhang Bin had no actual connection with Ye Tian and that everything he had said before was just empty talk.
"Oh... no, to be precise, I am the one sent here, and he is here to visit you," the Young Disciple added, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Seeing this, Ye Tian chuckled lightly; at this moment, he finally understood the situation.
He had officially become a disciple of Cloudscroll Pavilion yesterday, so according to the rules, he should receive a set of Disciple Robes, a martial arts manual for beginners, a Contribution Stick, and several other miscellaneous items.
In fact, these were supposed to be collected by him personally from the Steward, but since he was a direct disciple, the Steward sent someone to distribute them, and that person was this Young Disciple.
This Young Disciple seemed to have some connection with Zhang Bin, so Zhang Bin wanted to take this opportunity to show off a bit.
For Ye Tian, this behavior could be seen as exploitation; however, if it was merely for vanity's sake, he wouldn't mind too much. But the next scene made it impossible for him not to take it into account.
