"A-Cheng, do you think this porcelain vase is beautiful?" I turned to look at Jiangcheng, who was standing at the door, my tone carrying a hint of pride.
Hearing my voice, Jiangcheng stepped inside. He glanced at the porcelain vase in my hand and then at Lin Jiaojiao, his brow slightly furrowed, but he said nothing.
"Mom, as long as you like it," Jiangcheng said lightly, his tone revealing no emotion.
I smiled and didn't say anything further. I knew that Jiangcheng didn't like me interfering in his matters, especially not making things difficult for Lin Jiaojiao.
"Let's go back," I said, linking my arm with Jiangcheng's as we turned to leave the antique shop.
Lin Jiaojiao silently followed behind us, not saying a word.
Once we returned to the Jiang Family Villa, I eagerly had the servants place the porcelain vase in the most prominent spot in the living room.
"Aunt Wang, come over and take a look at this vase," I said, pointing to it and addressing the old servant standing nearby.
Upon hearing this, Aunt Wang quickly stepped forward to take a closer look and then smiled as she said, "Madam, this vase is truly beautiful; it clearly has great value!"
"Of course! I specifically bought it today," I replied proudly, my tone full of boastfulness.
Aunt Wang nodded with a smile and didn't say anything more.
Satisfied, I smiled again and then turned to walk into my room.
As soon as I returned to my room, I eagerly took out my phone and scrolled through today's news.
As expected, my "confrontation" with Lin Jiaojiao at the antique shop had been sensationalized by the media.
The headlines were particularly eye-catching, such as "Conflict Between Wealthy Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-Law Over Antiques" and "Jiang Family Young Mistress Suppressed by Mother-in-Law," among others.
Looking at these articles, the smile on my face grew wider.
Lin Jiaojiao, did you think you won?
This is just a game, and I am the ultimate winner.
I contentedly put down my phone and walked to the window, gazing at the clear blue sky outside, taking a deep breath.
"Lin Jiaojiao, this is just the beginning," I murmured to myself, a glint of determination flashing in my eyes. "From now on, every step you take will be within my calculations."
In the evening, as the sun set, it cast a golden veil over the entire Jiang Family Villa.
In the dining room, Jiang Cheng, Lin Jiaojiao, and I sat around the dining table, enjoying a lavish dinner.
As I elegantly sliced my steak, I casually brought up, "A-Cheng, I've recently developed a strong interest in antiques. Would you accompany me to the antique market tomorrow?"
Jiangcheng paused slightly, instinctively glancing at Lin Jiaojiao. Ever since the incident at the antique shop last time, he had clearly sensed that the atmosphere between Lin Jiaojiao and me had become somewhat delicate.
Lin Jiaojiao put down her knife and fork, forced a smile, and gently said, "Mom, if you like antiques, I can go with you. I have some knowledge about this as well."
I set down my utensils and picked up my napkin to lightly dab my mouth, but my gaze shot sharply towards Lin Jiaojiao as I spoke meaningfully, "Oh? Is that so? I heard that Jiaojiao didn't seem very interested in antiques before."
Lin Jiaojiao's smile froze for a moment, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and explained with a smile, "Mom, you misunderstood. I just didn’t have the opportunity to engage with these things before. Now that you're interested in antiques, of course, I want to learn more from you."
Watching Lin Jiaojiao feign calmness, I sneered inwardly while maintaining a composed exterior. I took a light sip of red wine and said, "Is that so? That's wonderful. I was worried about going alone and getting cheated."
Lin Jiaojiao quickly replied, "Mom, don't worry. I'll make sure to help you identify what's valuable."
I nodded in satisfaction but secretly laughed at her intentions. Lin Jiaojiao, do you think I don't know what you're thinking? You simply want to take this opportunity to get close to my collection and then switch it out when the chance arises.
Your plan sounds quite clever, but unfortunately, you underestimate me too much.
