I put down my teacup and looked at Lin Jiaojiao with a half-smile, saying, "Jiaojiao, didn't you say before that you like antiques? Come, help me take a look at this pair of Blue-and-White Porcelain Vases. What do you think?"
Lin Jiaojiao was clearly taken aback for a moment, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and smiled as she said, "Mom, you're joking. I only have a superficial understanding of antiques; how could I dare to show off in front of you?"
I set down my teacup, leaned slightly forward, and fixed my gaze on Lin Jiaojiao, saying, "Jiaojiao, you don't need to be modest. I know you have quite a bit of knowledge about antiques. Last time at the antique shop, you immediately identified the authenticity of that Tang Sancai piece; I remember it vividly."
I intentionally brought up the incident at the antique shop to see Lin Jiaojiao's reaction.
Her expression changed slightly, and a flicker of panic crossed her eyes again, but she quickly masked it and smiled as she said, "Mom, you're overestimating me. I was just lucky that time; I happened to know that the Tang Sancai was fake. In fact, I really don't know much about antiques."
"Is that so?" I raised an eyebrow, my tone laced with skepticism. "But I've heard that you often accompany A-Cheng to attend antique auctions and even spent a high price to buy a Qing Dynasty Snuff Bottle. Are those all fake too?"
I pressed on relentlessly, giving Lin Jiaojiao no chance to catch her breath.
Her face grew increasingly pale; she opened her mouth as if to explain something but didn't know what to say.
I sneered inwardly; Lin Jiaojiao was indeed lying. Her performance at the antique shop clearly showed that she knew nothing about antiques.
"Jiaojiao, you should know that there are no secrets in this world," I said gently. "If you're genuinely interested in antiques, I can teach you. But if you're just trying to deceive me and A-Cheng with some low-level tricks, then you've miscalculated."
"Mom, I didn't..." Lin Jiaojiao suddenly raised her head, her eyes filled with grievance. She wanted to explain but didn't know where to start.
I looked at Lin Jiaojiao and became even more certain that she had a problem.
"Alright, Jiaojiao, you don't need to say anything," I interrupted her. "I know you're doing this for A-Cheng's sake, but there are some things you should just stay out of."
Lin Jiaojiao bit her lip and fell silent.
Seeing her pitiful appearance made me sneer inwardly.
Lin Jiaojiao, do you think that by putting on a wronged expression, you can win A-Cheng's sympathy?
Let me tell you, it's useless!
I stood up and walked over to Jiangcheng, gently patting his shoulder as I said, "A-Cheng, I'm a bit tired. I'm going to head back to my room to rest."
Jiangcheng stood up and supported me, saying, "Mom, I'll walk you."
"No need, A-Cheng. You can chat with Jiaojiao," I replied as I turned and left the dining room.
Back in my room, Aunt Wang had already prepared my pajamas for me.
I changed into my pajamas, lay down on the bed, and closed my eyes, but Lin Jiaojiao's flustered expression kept flashing in my mind.
Lin Jiaojiao, what exactly are you hiding?
I secretly vowed to uncover your true identity!
The next day, I deliberately said to Jiangcheng in front of Lin Jiaojiao, "A-Cheng, I heard that a new antique shop has opened in the city recently, and the collection there is quite impressive. Why don't you accompany me to check it out tomorrow?"
Jiangcheng looked at me, then at Lin Jiaojiao, and said, "Mom, if you want to go, I'll accompany you tomorrow."
"Great! Let's go together," I replied happily.
Lin Jiaojiao sat nearby with a somewhat unpleasant expression.
I couldn't help but smirk inwardly. Lin Jiaojiao, are you scared?
I knew you didn't understand antiques at all. I'm curious to see how you'll play this out tomorrow!
