Toad has already learned how to coexist with fear in this disaster. With the sudden disappearance of one companion after another, his heart seems to be gradually numb, feeling indifferent to the chaos and despair around him. Even though he knows that he could encounter the same fate as others at any moment, he chooses to follow behind Mario and continue forward, pulling Tom along. For Toad, since he can no longer escape, he can only bravely face the unknown darkness ahead.
As for Mario, the mental state of this ruler seems to be deteriorating. He is no longer the calm, well-planned leader, but rather behaves like a madman who has lost his sanity, waving and speaking to the air in the deserted ruins as if there were still soldiers around to follow his orders. This scene deeply unsettles Toad and Tom, but they are powerless and can only continue to follow this king towards an unknown fate.
This scene is filled with absurdity and sadness. A once glorious king has now lost himself in the face of apocalyptic disaster, becoming a soul dominated by fear and despair. As the only witnesses, Toad and Tom have learned to let go of their attachment to life and accept the unpredictability of death in this apocalyptic scene.
Toad pulls Tom and gazes emptily at the gradually dimming sun, as if even this last light is quietly slipping away from them. At this moment, everything around them seems to be in slow motion, with each falling speck of dust and every whisper of the wind silently telling of the impending apocalypse. In the distance, Mario stands alone in the empty space that was once the magnificent location of the palace, like a king statue without a kingdom, silently gazing ahead, with the ruins of the glory and dreams he once ruled behind him.
The sunlight is getting weaker and weaker, just like the light of life in this world gradually fading away. Toad is filled with endless confusion and unease. He doesn't understand why it has come to this, why all the efforts and struggles have ultimately turned into nothingness. However, even in the face of such despair, he still tightly holds Tom's hand, as if this is the only certainty he can grasp in this crumbling world.
Mario, on the other hand, is like a lonely monument, silently witnessing the downfall of his empire. There is no expression on his face, no longer the arrogance and ambition of the past in his eyes, only deep powerlessness and confusion remain. This is a symbol of an end, a once immensely powerful ruler, facing a fate he cannot control, ultimately standing silently in the endless void.
Toad held Tom's hand, their steps heavy but determined, as they silently approached Mario, becoming witnesses to the impending demise of this world. The air was filled with the loneliness and despair of doomsday, but in this final moment, Toad chose to stand shoulder to shoulder with Mario, even though the latter had lost his former glory.
Suddenly, Mario lost all his strength, as if drained of energy, and sat down weakly on the cold ground. His gaze pierced through the void ahead, staring at this crumbling world, devoid of anger or sorrow, only deep confusion and helplessness. This once invincible king now could only sit quietly, watching his kingdom and everything he had turn into nothingness.
Toad and Tom chose to silently accompany each other at this moment, without words, and without the need for words. Their presence is the final support and companionship for Mario. The world around them seems to be rapidly dissipating, but in this final moment, their unspoken understanding and emotions emit a subtle, barely noticeable light in this endless darkness.
Even as the end approaches, they still choose to lean on each other and face it together. And Mario, the former hero, the ruler of a nation, ultimately can only silently accept the end of this world. His story, thus, quietly reaches its conclusion.
Mario sat on the empty ground of the vanished kingdom, surrounded by desolation. His eyes, filled with emptiness, looked back at those days when he thought he could control everything, when he believed he stood at the pinnacle of the world. The old man's words echoed through the desolation of this doomsday, unusually clear: "The rules of the world will eventually sanction those who defy its existence."
The phrase "Think about how you got here" at this moment seemed to carry a weight of a thousand pounds. Mario's life, from an ordinary plumber to the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, to the despair he couldn't explain now, all the glory, power, and even his selfishness and cruelty, were all paths leading to this ending.
Mario suddenly burst into laughter, his voice echoing in the empty world. He laughed so freely, so wildly, as if all burdens were released in that moment. He laughed with regret, with relief, and with irony towards his own foolish actions.
"Haha, old man, you were right... I finally understand, everything, it's all the path I chose, and this apocalyptic scene is the result of my own making." His laughter was accompanied by tears, but these tears were not of sadness, but a release that cleansed the soul.
Toad stood aside, puzzled, and said, "Sir... have you figured something out?" On the side, Tom squatted on the ground, looking at Mario with curious eyes. Mario turned his head slowly like a puppet.
