Zhong Kui's Diary
Fatty walked over, picked up a book from the ground, flipped through it, and then tugged at it forcefully a few times. "Hey, Ghost Brother, it really is like this; it can't be torn."
I knew very well the strength of Fatty. This guy was incredibly strong. Once, during a bet, there was a girl whose stockings were of such good quality that no one could tear them. He stepped up and tore not only her stockings but also her denim shorts... Since Fatty couldn't tear it, the paper of this book must be extraordinary; it might even be some kind of high-tech material.
I bent down to pick up another book, flipped through a few pages, and felt that the paper was light as a feather, thin as a cicada's wing. The characters on it seemed to have been written in some mysterious way, shining brightly as if floating on the surface of the paper. Goodness, this thing probably wouldn't even burn.
After thinking for a moment, I turned to Cui Gu Yi and said, "You all go out first. Fatty and I will pack up the things and come out."
Cui Gu Yi was surprised. "Why do we have to go out?"
"Why so many questions? Are you afraid I'll eat this book? You didn't bring an eco-bag down here; how am I supposed to carry so many books? I have no choice but to take off a pair of long johns, tie the legs together, and put the books inside," I replied.
When the two girls heard this, their faces flushed red, and they ran out as if escaping.
Once they were gone, I whispered, "Quickly find the books from the Ling Family!"
Fatty looked at me in confusion.
"Damn it, this concerns our safety. If her grandfather wants to take away all this evidence, he definitely won't want outsiders to know. This woman might even want to silence us!" I quickly searched while explaining urgently. "We need to get something on them first; let's find their family's evidence and take pictures!"
Hearing this, Fatty also started searching quickly while not forgetting to bicker with me. "What if someone stabs you? Your phone would naturally be thrown away too; what's the use of taking pictures?"
I cursed back, "There are those websites that upload automatically. If I set it up to upload automatically and don't cancel midway, it'll be published online... Damn it, found it!"
The book in front of me had Ling Family written on the cover; this must be the one. I took out my phone and started taking pictures page by page. Then I took out my phone to upload but realized there wasn't a single signal underground. Cursing under my breath, I took off my jacket, wrapped all the books up, tied them into a bundle, and said, "Let's go!"
After walking a couple of steps outside, Fatty ran back to find his SIM Card from the wreckage of his phone. He picked it up and laughed. "This has so many phone numbers; can't lose it!"
As we reached the door, Cui Gu Yi pointed at my bundle in surprise and asked, "Aren't those long johns? Why does it look like clothes?"
I calmly said, "Because it's too cold to take off my pants! I have a deep bond with my brother, and I'm afraid it will get frozen."
Cui Gu Yi rolled her eyes and stopped asking questions as the four of us quickly left.
We caught up with Aijia Yu and the others halfway down the corridor. By the time we reached the ground, it was already six o'clock. Fortunately, it was winter, so it wasn't very bright at this hour. Additionally, due to the cold weather, there were hardly any people in the Civic Square. With the water curtain blocking our view, we walked out from the fountain without anyone noticing.
After leaving the square, Fatty and I got into the previous Volkswagen Phaeton, while Xiao Qingcheng and the others boarded two nearby SUVs. Cui Gu Yi's car led the way as we drove towards Qingxiu District.
After driving for more than half an hour, the car turned onto a dilapidated road flanked by large warehouses of four to five stories. To my surprise, Cui Gu Yi actually brought us to Nanyang Warehouse.
Nanyang Warehouse is not just one warehouse but a collective term for dozens of large warehouses. In a way, Qingxiu District is a well-known landmark of Star City, and Nanyang Warehouse is a historic landmark of Qingxiu District. Once upon a time, this place was almost a distribution center for scarce goods throughout the province. Over time, most of it has turned into warehouses for rice shops and wholesale grain and oil.
The car entered through the gate of one warehouse. After getting out, Cui Gu Yi invited me into a storage room.
The warehouse was large, filled with various wooden boxes stacked tightly together, making it impossible to tell what was inside. The air was filled with the scent of wood. A large area in the center had been cleared out, with about ten long reclining chairs arranged around a glass coffee table that held a set of purple clay tea utensils. Cui Gu Yi walked straight over and sat down, nodding at me to indicate that I should sit.
Fatty and I each found a spot. I initially wanted to sit next to Cui Gu Yi so that I could restrain her immediately if anything went wrong. Unfortunately, the chair beside her had already been taken by Aijia Yu and Xiao Qingcheng.
Cui Gu Yi dialed a number; it didn't take long before she reported our current address and hung up. She smiled at me and said, "Lingfeng and Sister Guo will be here soon. You won't hand over the book in your hands until they arrive, right? Now that Aijia and Brother Five are injured and A Long's group has no bullets, we can't do anything about you, can we?"
I smiled in agreement.
I had already uploaded evidence against the Ling Family online while in the car, setting it to automatically upload in the future. I couldn't reveal this matter now; after all, Cui Gu Yi is a computer expert—what if she cracked it easily?
"Let's eat something first!" Cui Gu Yi said to A Long. A Long left the warehouse and returned shortly with a large bag of food containing buns, fried dough sticks, congee, soy milk—everything you could think of.
The three women were concerned about not having brushed their teeth yet and refused to eat breakfast. The few of us men didn't have such concerns; we enjoyed our meal heartily. In this cold weather, drinking hot soy milk was incredibly satisfying.
An hour passed without anyone arriving. Cui Gu Yi showed signs of impatience on her face and almost called to urge them several times. Xiao Qingcheng comforted her by saying that this was rush hour and that traffic jams were normal in Qingxiu District since it is part of Old Town District. I listened in silence; even someone who had just arrived in Star City knew about traffic jams in Qingxiu District—this showed just how severe they were.
Another half hour passed when just as Cui Gu Yi was about to lose her temper, we heard the roar of car engines outside followed by screeching brakes. It sounded like several cars had arrived; after turning off their engines, several people got out and headed straight for the warehouse.
Finally, they have arrived!
Cui Gu Yi angrily stared at the warehouse door, ready to reprimand whoever walked in.
The first person to come out of the warehouse was Fatty A-Jian. Although I already knew A-Jian was alive, seeing him here suddenly felt uncomfortable.
"What’s going on? Why are you only arriving now? Where is Jiang Haoyu?" Cui Gu Yi immediately launched into a tirade.
"Why are you in such a hurry? Is waiting going to kill you?!" A-Jian audaciously replied, causing everyone present to drop their jaws in shock. Has he eaten too much lean meat and turned his brain into a sausage?
A Black-clad Man stood up, rolled up his sleeves, and was about to teach A-Jian a lesson. Cui Gu Yi raised his hand to stop him, his face turning pale as he deeply looked at A-Jian and asked, "Who else is behind you?"
A-Jian did not answer but stood aside as a tall and handsome young man walked out of the warehouse. Wasn’t this Lingfeng? Lingfeng scanned the room and his gaze landed on me, a faint bitter smile appearing on his lips. Two ordinary-looking men followed closely behind Lingfeng; one of them seemed familiar—right, this was the man who had dueled with Yang Zi in the abandoned building, Li Feidao. Damn, how did Li Feidao arrive so quickly?
Next came Guo'er and Jiang Haoyu, each accompanied by two unremarkable men. Judging by the wry smiles on their faces, it seemed that Lingfeng and his group had already fallen into the hands of these people.
Finally, a middle-aged man in his forties stepped out. This man had an extraordinary demeanor; just standing at the entrance drew everyone's attention. Even Lingfeng and Jiang Haoyu, who were prominent figures themselves, seemed like mere followers beside him.
Cui Gu Yi trembled upon seeing this man, as if he had encountered someone extremely terrifying.
The middle-aged man scanned the room with sharp eyes. Almost everyone lowered their heads under his gaze; only those like me and Fatty remained unfazed.
"My name is Lou Wei!" the middle-aged man said slowly.
I couldn't help but whisper to Xiao Qingcheng beside me, "What does this Lou Wei do? He seems quite impressive."
"Li Feidao's Dragon Group leader!" Xiao Qingcheng replied softly.
Wow, so this is the legendary Li Feidao from the Dragon Group, and he’s a leader too. No wonder he’s so intimidating. It seems that Li Feidao's presence here is related to A-Jian; A-Jian appears to be a super undercover agent since he is a key figure in Cui Gu Yi's plan. He knows all about it, and just when we were about to succeed, with one phone call from him, Lou Wei and others came to wrap things up effortlessly.
However, one thing doesn’t add up: since A-Jian knew about this plan from the beginning, he could have easily crushed us in our cradle. Li Feidao is part of the inner guard; he wouldn’t need to report anything to kill a few people. There must be a reason behind all this.
"Not bad, not bad, the Ling Family, the Xiao Family, and the Yang Family. It seems you three have been suppressed for quite a while," Lou Wei said, his gaze sweeping over Cui Gu Yi and Xiao Qingcheng before landing on Lingfeng and Yang Guo'er. Cui Gu Yi and Xiao Qingcheng's expressions changed drastically; they were the masterminds behind everything. Lingfeng and Yang Guo'er also seemed to have realized the situation, their faces not looking good either.
"A-Jian is my insider, I believe you've all figured that out. And you must be curious, since I have A-Jian as an insider, why didn't I stop you from the beginning?" Lou Wei said slowly.
"Right? Why not?" With everyone silent, I had no choice but to ask.
Lou Wei didn't seem angry at my insolence; it was as if I were just an insignificant ant to him. He continued slowly, "Recently, the major families have been restless. Several families have started to expand, intruding into territories that don't belong to them—real estate, finance, securities, and so on. They no longer trust the Fifty-Six District and think it's just a rumor."
At this point, Lou Wei smiled gently at Yang Guo'er: "The Moon City Yang Family was the first to jump out. For such families, it's as easy as crushing an ant to eliminate them. However, it's not so easy with other major families. Eliminating one or two is fine, but if so many families unite against you, it will be a disaster that no one can bear."
"And then?" I interjected at the right moment.
"Just then, A-Jian informed me of the Ling Family's plan to infiltrate the Fifty-Six District. I decided to take advantage of it. After you obtain the evidence of your crimes, I will step in and capture you myself. This way, not only can I uproot the Ling Family legitimately, but I can also use this incident to intimidate others. At that time, sending photos of two stolen items from underground to the heads of all major families would be the most fitting approach!" Lou Wei smiled at us.
"So what you're saying is...?" I asked.
"Everyone present must die—the Yang Family, the Ling Family, and the Xiao Family must all be eradicated!" Lou Wei stated emphatically.
