Zhong Kui's Diary
Everyone around was stunned, their faces filled with terror. After a few seconds of silence, the woman began to scream in panic, and then two men crouched on the ground, vomiting continuously. The smell of blood mixed with the sour stench of vomit created an exceptionally unpleasant atmosphere.
Amidst the commotion, Lingfeng rushed over from elsewhere. Upon seeing the scene, his expression changed drastically. He looked around and quickly pulled me and Fatty aside to ask what had happened.
I recounted the events, and Lingfeng frowned, remaining silent for a while.
"This seems to be beyond our understanding!" I cleared my throat. "No one could have acted in such a situation, and no one could have torn his face off from a distance. I mean, no one!"
What had just happened was truly unbelievable. When Sun Jianhua was attacked, those nearby were so frightened that they kept their distance; there was no one within three or four meters of him. Moreover, the force required to tear off his face was beyond human capability. Even if we were to assume otherwise, who could explain why Sun Jianhua's face on the ground had turned into a Snoopy Mask?
Clearly, this kind of event had surpassed human ability. I didn't need to elaborate further, but both Lingfeng and Fatty understood my implication; only a Demon could possess such power.
Lingfeng's face was as dark as water, and he remained silent.
"Is this an accident or a provocation?" Fatty nodded in agreement. "Of all times, why choose your party?"
This party was specifically to celebrate Lingfeng's promotion to Deputy Director, overseeing Criminal Investigation and Public Security. Although it was a private gathering, those attending were either powerful figures or wealthy individuals. Committing an act of violence at such an event would be akin to publicly slapping Lingfeng in the face—repeatedly.
Upon hearing Fatty's words, Lingfeng's expression darkened further. "Whether it's a human or a ghost, we must find the culprit. I want Xiao Qingcheng to come over immediately."
Currently, the Ling Family, Xiao Family, and Yang Family were all in the same boat; it was perfectly normal for Lingfeng to call Xiao Qingcheng for assistance. Besides her, who else could he call?
Fatty and I awkwardly offered some words of comfort; we weren't very good at this kind of reassurance. In fact, it seemed more like we were inciting him further, causing Lingfeng to grit his teeth and declare that he would not rest until he had avenged the victim.
After leaving the venue, Fatty and I wandered aimlessly down the street when he suddenly asked, "Ghost Brother, what does your Snoopy Mask mean?"
I replied casually, "I'm not sure; perhaps it's just a hobby. For example, the thief Chu Liuxiang would leave behind the scent of tulips after committing a crime, while the strange hero Yi Zhi Mei would always leave a plum blossom as a mark after each crime. These are expressions of inner emptiness and a desire for attention from others. Similarly, this ghost tearing off Sun Jianhua's face to turn it into Snoopy might also be some sort of preference."
"Similarly? Heh heh! If Lingfeng is calling Xiao Qingcheng over based on that logic, then your Guo'er will probably come along too," Fatty chuckled.
"Guo'er is just a doctor; whether he comes or not doesn't affect the situation," I said hypocritically.
"As soon as you said that, it reminded me of a joke. A girl asked a male classmate, 'You always drink Red Bull. Can it cure kidney deficiency?' The guy replied, 'This is a functional drink, not a sexual function drink...' Ghost Brother, your answer now feels just like this guy's response to me, making things worse... Oh, Mask!" Fatty suddenly exclaimed, stopping in his tracks and pointing at a nearby shop.
I followed Fatty's gaze and saw a storefront with the name 'Tong Tong Toys'. The window was filled with various toys, including plush pet bears and spinning tops. The most eye-catching items were the row of Masks hanging at the top of the display, featuring Pleasant Goat and Big Bad Wolf in vibrant colors. Next to the window was a glass door adorned with a couplet: the upper line read "A century-old toy store," and the lower line stated "The only one in Star City," with the horizontal inscription saying "My Ideal."
Seeing the horizontal inscription made me smile; the owner truly seemed to be an idealistic person. I chuckled and was about to leave when Fatty exclaimed in surprise, "Aren't you going in to take a look?"
I responded in astonishment, "What’s there to see? Are you planning to buy a toy? Are you getting it for yourself or for An Ran?"
"Ghost Brother, don't you think the cause of death for that glasses professor was very strange? Especially that last Snoopy Mask, its appearance was too odd!" Fatty said with wide eyes.
"Strange?" I used an elegant term.
"This Mask definitely has some special meaning. There's a Delivery Van right now; why don't we go in and ask the shopkeeper? We might gain something," Fatty said eagerly, his thirst for knowledge puzzling me. I glanced back into the shop and suddenly realized. Damn it, there was a well-endowed beauty at the cash register, easily at least an E cup; what Fatty meant by 'gaining something' was probably just this.
Upon entering the store, the beauty glanced at us but didn't get up, perhaps thinking we didn't look like toy buyers. She said lightly, "Feel free to look around; everything except for new arrivals is 20% off."
I quietly stood by watching Fatty perform. He pretended to browse around and pointed at one of the Masks in the display, asking, "How much is this Mask?"
"Ten yuan each!" The beauty glanced at the Mask and added, "Two for fifteen!"
"I'll take a Mickey Mouse. Please get it down for me," Fatty said, pointing at a Mickey Mouse mask. The beauty stood up and took it down with a hanger, just as she noticed Fatty's gaze lingering on her chest, causing her to frown slightly.
Seeing this, Fatty quickly asked, "Why don't you have any Snoopy ones?"
"We had some in stock before, but the delivery driver crashed and lost them," she replied while crossing her arms over her chest with the hanger still in hand. "No Snoopy, but do you want anything else?"
Hearing this made my heart skip a beat, and I couldn't help but ask aloud, "That delivery van that had an incident on Riverside Avenue, could it be your delivery vehicle?"
The beauty turned to look at me in surprise and asked, "Oh? How did you know?"
She asked this question, which meant she acknowledged the situation. I smiled and said, "We were right there. But at that time, everyone put the scattered Masks back in the box, so there shouldn't be any missing."
I wasn't very sure about this either; the scene was so chaotic that someone might have secretly taken one or two Masks. Many people have a tendency to take advantage of situations. For example, didn't Snow Aunt want to take a Mask?
"This is pointless. That driver is dead; are we supposed to ask him for compensation?" The beautiful woman sighed.
Dead? Did the driver not survive after being taken to the hospital? Life is truly fragile. I couldn't help but shake my head and sigh, choosing not to speak further.
The woman soon felt that this conversation was meaningless and asked Fatty, "Do you need anything else?"
Fatty casually pointed to a Big Bad Wolf, and the woman placed the Mask in a plastic bag and handed it to Fatty. "Thank you, fifteen dollars."
Fatty took the Mask and while taking out money said, "Beautiful lady, give me a business card. When you have Snoopy, I'll come back to buy!"
The woman's brows furrowed slightly as she took a business card from the counter and handed it to Fatty. Fatty looked at it and said, "Hao Zhitong, nice name. Huh? Why is there only one landline?"
"Should I write down my QQ number, mobile number, and WeChat ID too?" Hao Zhitong looked at Fatty disdainfully, her tone quite rude. "Are you trying to buy toys or pick up girls? I've seen many people like you. Just so you know, my boyfriend is a boxing coach."
After we went outside and saw Fatty looking dejected, I couldn't help but tease him. "Fatty, you still have a chance; it's just a boyfriend, not a husband. What's there to fear about a boxing coach? He might not even be your match."
"I am devoted to An Ran," Fatty declared solemnly. "The earth can bear witness!"
"Of course, of course! I'll tell An Ran about your toy purchase later," I laughed. "And I'll mention this beautiful woman's figure as well."
Fatty casually tossed the Mask into a trash can, awkwardly changing the subject. "So how did that driver die? At that time, I checked his breath; it was strong and didn't seem like he was in critical condition."
"Fatty, with your well-developed pectoral muscles, could it be related to her boyfriend being a boxing coach?" Ignoring Fatty's attempt to change the topic, I continued on my own. "Your strength isn't weak either; tsk tsk, An Ran has a bright future ahead."
"Ghost Brother, this is getting pointless..."
After three, I went to pick up Lingfeng at the airport. When we arrived, I found out that not only Xiao Qingcheng and Guo'er were there, but also a familiar face, the stunning beauty Aijia Yu.
Aijia Yu glanced at me and Guo'er, smiled lightly, and directly sat in the passenger seat. Xiao Qingcheng also understood and took a seat on one side, leaving plenty of space for me and Guo'er. Guo'er blushed and sat in the middle, while I leaned against her.
Lingfeng winked at me, then made a sharp turn after starting the car. Guo'er suddenly leaned towards me. I wasn't foolish, so I naturally reached out to embrace her, which drew some teasing laughter from Lingfeng and the others. Seeing this, Guo'er simply closed her eyes and rested her head on my chest, remaining silent all the way, with eight words echoing in her mind: "At this point in life, what more could one ask for?"
The car took Guo'er and Aijia Yu to Jin Family Villa, which was her adoptive father's home where she had gotten used to living. I scratched my head, unsure of what to do. At that moment, I wished I could be as shameless as Fatty, directly saying: "Come stay at my place; I have a learning machine..."
After bidding farewell to Guo'er, Lingfeng drove into the police station, and the three of us headed straight to the Morgue.
The Morgue was located on the underground first floor. The room was square, about ten meters long and wide. The hall was empty except for the wall opposite the entrance; the other three walls were lined with embedded body cabinets.
Lingfeng walked up to one of the cabinets and pulled it open. A wave of white mist rushed out, mixed with a smell similar to disinfectant that was quite unpleasant.
Waving my hand in front of my nose, Lingfeng took out his Cigarette Case, which happened to contain two cigarettes. He handed one to me to help dispel the odor and refresh ourselves. After lighting it, he crumpled up the Cigarette Case and tossed it aside before uncovering the white cloth draped over the body. Although I had mentally prepared myself, when I saw Sun Jianxin's face, my stomach churned. The skinless face could only be described as horrifying and disgusting. I quickly shifted my gaze to Xiao Qingcheng.
I saw that Xiao Qingcheng was staring intently at Sun Jianxin's face. After a long time, she slowly spoke: "This person is not Sun Jianxin!"
