Zhong Kui's Diary
I squinted and looked outside the door. It wasn't that I wanted to act cool; it was just that my eyes were swollen from being hit by that Big-Eyed Policeman. Kong Xuan and Aijia Yu were standing beside me, one on each side. Earlier, we didn't want to embarrass the police on the street, but now that we were inside the police station, there was no such concern. Whoever pulled a gun would get beaten up; the three of us had absolute combat power.
A very square-looking man walked in. It wasn't because he was upright; I didn't know him, so how could I judge his character? He looked square because he was... very blocky.
His face was quite ordinary for a Square-Faced Man, but his neck was almost as thick as his head. If you thought he was blocky just based on that, you were mistaken. His physique was extremely robust, with muscles built like blocks, and the thickness of his chest and back matched the width of his shoulders. He looked like a person made of Russian blocks stacked together.
The Block glanced around the room, his brow slightly furrowing as his gaze landed on the three of us. After a moment's hesitation, he strode over and extended his hands towards me, chuckling, "You must be Zheng Nan, right? I'm Qu Changfeng, Chief of the Mint County Public Security Bureau. Since these misunderstandings have occurred, I won't shirk responsibility. Whatever punishment you want for Mo Zhiyuan, I will agree to it, with just one request: no one should die."
I shook hands with Chief Qu Changfeng and didn’t mention any punishment; instead, I asked directly, "So you're Boss Qu?"
Qu Changfeng laughed heartily: "Calling me Boss in front of you would be self-deprecating. If you find me agreeable, just call me Old Qu."
"Old Qu!" I didn't beat around the bush and asked directly, "Who called you to let you know I was here?"
Mo Zhiyuan couldn't help but tremble at my words and was about to explain when Qu Changfeng shot him a glare, causing Mo Zhiyuan to lower his head immediately. Qu Changfeng then smiled and said, "It was Director Wei from the Provincial Public Security Department who called me."
"Director Wei?" I repeated in confusion; I didn't know this person.
Qu Changfeng chuckled: "I don't know how Director Wei found out either; he personally called me."
I was suddenly filled with suspicion. Who had such impressive connections? Who reacted so quickly and made that call to Director Wei? Was it Lingfeng? How did he know what was happening here?
I quietly asked Kong Ai and the others; they all shook their heads, indicating they hadn't contacted anyone else.
This was strange. I smiled at Qu Changfeng and turned to ask the Round-Faced Policeman: "Where's my phone?"
During the ride, Mo Zhiyuan took my phone and turned it off before handing it over to the Round-Faced Policeman, who still hadn't returned it to me.
"Outside in the car!" The Round-Faced Policeman immediately ran out and soon returned, panting, handing my phone back to me.
Huh? Why is my phone turned on? Wasn't it turned off by Mo Zhiyuan? I opened the call log and saw that half an hour ago, a call was made to Lou Wei. What’s going on? Who used my phone to call Lou Wei for help? Confused, I pressed redial.
"Director Zhong?" Lou Wei seemed to be laughing.
"Yes!"
"Are you okay?"
"Uh, wait? Do you know what’s happening on my side?" I suddenly realized. Judging by Lou Wei's tone, he must have been the one trying to rescue me.
"Yeah, someone used your phone to call me and told me about your situation. I immediately called Old Wei from the Shanzuo Provincial Public Security Bureau. With him involved, a county police station would have to comply! Hahaha." Lou Wei's words cleared all my doubts.
But a new question jumped into my mind: "Old Lou, who called you?"
"How would I know? It was a woman." Lou Wei also seemed puzzled by my question.
After thinking for a moment, I hung up the phone and pointed at Mo Zhiyuan, smiling at Qu Changfeng: "What you just saw was a misunderstanding; now I can deal with him however I want, right?"
Qu Changfeng nodded.
I touched my swollen eye socket and said with a smile, "That Big-Eyed Policeman hit me once; wow, he’s really strong! I can’t even open my eyes now."
The Big-Eyed Policeman looked at me defiantly, but his legs were slightly trembling. The youthful bravado made him want to show off, but my imposing presence frightened him, filling his big eyes with conflicting emotions.
Amused, I clicked my tongue twice and pointed at the Big-Eyed Policeman: "From the beginning, I said that if you wanted to handcuff me, I'd strip you of your police badge. Since Old Qu is giving face, I won’t make things difficult for you. Well... let’s reason this out... how about this: you punch this Mo guy once; make sure it’s as hard as what I got, or else all four of you will be dismissed! Hehe, actually, I'm a very reasonable person."
Since Director Wei from the Provincial Public Security Department has spoken up, it shouldn't be too difficult to dismiss four people, right?
Mo Zhiyuan and the Big-Eyed Policeman were both somewhat at a loss. Qu Changfeng shouted, "What are you still dawdling for? Do you want to be dismissed?"
Kong Xuan and I exchanged smiles while lighting our cigarettes. Amidst the swirling smoke, the Big-Eyed Policeman suddenly struck Mo Zhiyuan in the face with a loud bang, delivering a powerful blow.
After leaving the police station, we declined Qu Changfeng's generous offer to arrange accommodations for us and instead found a hotel on our own. We booked two adjacent rooms—one for Aijia Yu and one for Kong Xuan and me. After settling in, I took a shower, and by the time I finished, it was nearly midnight. I checked An Ran's location and saw she hadn't moved from Longping Town, which eased my mind. Exhausted, I went straight to bed.
I woke up around noon the next day to find Kong Xuan lying on his bed smoking. Stretching lazily, I felt some soreness all over my body and a bit of pain in my eyes, especially where the Big-Eyed Policeman had scratched my brow—it felt a bit numb but I could still open my eyes normally. I walked to the bathroom to grab my toothbrush and noticed both toothbrushes were intact. Curiously, I asked, "Hey, Kong Xuan, didn’t you brush your teeth this morning?"
"Brush what? My teeth just got implanted; I can't brush!" Kong Xuan replied gruffly.
Haha, I had forgotten about that. While brushing my teeth, I mumbled, "By the way, where did that red dot go?"
Kong Xuan grunted in response as if he hadn’t heard me clearly. After spitting out the foam in my mouth, I asked again. He then casually replied, "Wait a minute; I'll check on the Tablet." A moment later, he exclaimed as if something had happened.
I rinsed my mouth haphazardly, wiped my mouth with a towel, and rushed back to the room asking, "What’s wrong?"
Kong Xuan was swiping through the screen but couldn’t find the red dot. He even zoomed out to see the map of China but still didn’t spot it.
"What’s going on? Is it possible that your phantom mosquito ran out of battery?" I asked in surprise.
"There are only two explanations!" Kong Xuan closed his eyes and thought for a moment before saying solemnly, "First, she is not in China; second, there is no Satellite signal where she is."
"Why not consider that she discovered it and cleared your tracker?" I pointed out a third possibility.
"As long as my blood is inside her body, there’s absolutely no way to clear it within seven days; I can guarantee that!" Kong Xuan replied seriously.
"Leaving China is basically impossible; could she really fly away? The most likely scenario is that she is currently in a place without signal." I touched my nose and chuckled, "By the way, could there be an issue with your software? How about restarting it?"
Kong Xuan was somewhat annoyed. "I spent a lot of money on this; it was made by a programmer who designs GPRS navigation."
Despite that, he restarted the Tablet. After rebooting and entering the map page again, the red dot appeared prominently.
Just as I was about to mock him, I noticed the red dot began to move slowly.
"Just wait here; I'm going to call Aijia Yu." I put on my shirt and walked to the door of the next room.
I knocked a few times, but there was no response. I called out loudly a couple of times, still no reply. That girl was probably in the bathroom; even if she was, she could at least acknowledge me.
After tidying up in my room, about ten minutes later, I followed Kong Xuan to her room and knocked on the door again, but still no answer.
"Don't you know how to make a phone call?" Kong Xuan stood beside me, looking at me as if I were an idiot for knocking on the door for so long before finally laughing.
Feeling embarrassed, I pulled out my phone and dialed Aijia Yu's number.
A faint ringing sound came from inside the room, but after half a ring, no one answered. Kong Xuan and I exchanged glances, both of us looking uneasy. Something was wrong.
"I'll call the service staff to bring a key!" I said loudly, then shouted in the hallway, "Service! Service!"
I called several times with no response. Was there really no service staff on this floor? Frustrated, I kicked the door.
"Bang!"
The door flew open with my kick. Kong Xuan gestured a thumbs-up at me. "The Chinese National Football Team needs you!"
I ignored him and rushed into the room. The sight before us left us both at a loss.
Aijia Yu lay on the bed without a stitch of clothing, seemingly immobilized by some restriction. Upon seeing us enter, her face flushed bright red, revealing a mix of embarrassment and urgency in her eyes.
Kong Xuan rushed forward and lifted the blanket, wrapping Aijia Yu tightly. She smiled at me and cleared her throat, saying, "Zheng Nan, have you seen Ai?"
I realized, "She should still be sleeping. Isn't that her soundly asleep under the covers?"
Kong Xuan lifted a corner of the blanket, revealing Aijia Yu's face. Although her cheeks were still flushed, she appeared a bit calmer, with a hint of gratitude mixed in.
We all understood that these few words were merely a form of comfort.
Kong Xuan carefully examined Aijia Yu's complexion and nodded at me. "She has been affected by the Restriction."
"Can it be lifted?"
"It can!"
Then Kong Xuan stared blankly at me, and I stared back at him. After a moment, I said, "Why are you just standing there? If it can be lifted, then lift it!"
"Why aren't you going out to find someone to help her get dressed? Otherwise, how can I do anything with her?" Kong Xuan looked at me as if I were foolish.
