Zhong Kui's Diary
"No, because we have placed a Restriction at the entrance of the Moon Demon Cave. Do you see that cloud above?" Lin Tao pointed at the shifting silver cloud at the cave's mouth.
"Yes!"
"It is actually a formation. The original Moon Attendant is a strand of consciousness that cannot be destroyed. After she possesses someone, we bring her here. The Moon Attendant thinks she is jumping into the Moon Demon Cave, but in fact, she is jumping into this formation. Only under the premise of being in a human body can the formation strangle the strand of consciousness of the Moon Demon! By the way, I forgot to tell you, Li Zhen is the previous Moon Attendant!" Lin Tao said casually.
"What? Old Li is the previous Moon Attendant?" My jaw dropped in shock.
"That's right. Li Zhen also returned to the human realm after his consciousness was extracted by the formation. Although the consciousness of the Moon Demon was extracted, the abilities of the Moon Attendant remain within him, which is why he can dominate outside and gain favor from above, thus forming Li Feidao." Lin Tao laughed as he saw my astonished expression. "The reason why Li Feidao has a good relationship with Jin Manyuan is because of this! By the way, it wasn't me who led Li Zhen and Jin Manyuan into the Land of Eternal Sleep; it was my grandfather, haha."
Damn it, Old Li is the founder of Li Feidao! No wonder there are ghosts guarding both Golden Blade Building and beneath Fifty-Six District. How could an ordinary person like me possibly command a Demon? Also, that Jin Manyuan didn't tell me about this Jade Record Volume; he probably thought I couldn't gather the other six pages and didn't mention it since this page involves the Moon Demon.
"By the way, why do these Moon Attendants come looking for you?" I asked.
"Although we cannot stop the Moon Demon from projecting its consciousness into the human realm, we can implant a mark before it emerges: to find the entrance to the Land of Eternal Sleep, it can only seek out the Mint Forest Family." Lin Tao chuckled. "Our role as guardians is simple: to bring these consciousnesses here and then use the formation to extract them. We already know where the entrance is; we are just pretending on the outside to avoid raising suspicion with the Moon Attendants—it's all part of our strategy."
Hearing Lin Tao say this reminded me that during our search for the entrance, he often guided my thoughts, such as when he suggested sleeping under Big Pine Tree on the mountain.
"And pretending to be dead in dark green makes An Ran wary of you. Only when An Ran is fully on guard against you can dark green successfully launch a surprise attack, haha." After a pause, Lin Tao continued, "As for why the Moon Attendant sought to possess An Ran, it's because I told her she must find you, with your Yin-Yang Physique. Don't be surprised; Jin Manyuan told me about you before he died. That's why the Moon Attendant would choose to possess An Ran."
Initially, the Moon Attendant wanted to possess Guo'er. Thinking of Guo'er made me ponder: "After you extracted the Moon Demon consciousness from An Ran using your formation, she would still be able to return alive and well, right? Her abilities would still be intact?"
"That depends on what abilities we're talking about. Anyway, An Ran will eventually be expelled by the formation after a while; you can ask her then!" Lin Tao flicked his cigarette butt into the Moon Demon Cave and sighed deeply. "In just a few decades, there will be another Moon Attendant appearing—generation after generation; when will it ever end?"
After saying this, Lin Tao's eyes were filled with exhaustion—a deep fatigue that seemed to emanate from his very bones. Dark green beside him also sighed heavily; he must be a descendant of Human Guardians passed down through generations.
"You threw that cigarette butt inside without fear of waking up the Moon Demon?" Seeing Lin Tao and Dark Green's heavy expressions, I could only change the subject.
"It's fine; we've already modified the Moon Demon Cave. Even without the formation above, no object can go down," Lin Tao said dismissively.
"The Moon Demon Cave reaches a depth of thirty thousand meters, with layers of True Martial Qi every two hundred meters. Each layer can withstand one hundred thousand pounds," Dark Green proudly stated beside him.
"Can I interject?" Kong Xuan imitated Lin Tao, flicking a cigarette butt into the hole and laughing, "If I were to throw something weighing eleven thousand pounds, wouldn't that just pierce through all this True Martial Qi with a whoosh?"
Kong Xuan was absolutely right; mass does not change. If a layer of True Martial Qi cannot stop an object weighing eleven thousand pounds, then neither will a hundred layers or a thousand layers. In fact, as the speed of descent increases, the kinetic energy generated becomes greater... Damn it, my knowledge of physics is so good. Why didn't that physics teacher from high school let me be the class representative?
Lin Tao smiled slightly, "First of all, this True Martial Qi can wear down heavy objects. When your hundred-thousand-pound object pierces through the first layer of Qi, it will also be turned to ashes by the True Martial Qi. Secondly, this True Martial Qi can regenerate; it can recover in less than ten seconds. If you want to awaken the Moon Demon, you must pierce through these one hundred and fifty layers of True Martial Qi within ten seconds."
"Alright, since you're so impressive, how did the Moon Demon's consciousness escape?" Kong Xuan retorted defiantly.
"It was irreversible! A simple example: if you press your hands together from above, it's hard to separate them. But if you lightly swipe from below, you can easily part your hands. It's the same principle." Kong Xuan cleared his throat and was about to continue with more examples when the clouds above the hole flickered. He couldn't help but laugh, "Your friend An Ran is about to be reborn!"
Upon hearing Lin Tao's words, our gazes turned toward the cloud. The silvery clouds rolled and changed in the air, like seventeen or eighteen friends pulling at a piece of clay, transforming into various unimaginable shapes.
Just as we were watching in a daze, a crack suddenly opened in the cloud, and a figure shot out from it, heading straight for us. The momentum of the figure was so swift that both Kong Xuan and I instinctively prepared to dodge. When the figure was about three meters away from us, it slowed down. An Ran smiled at us: "Zheng Nan, Kong Xuan, Jia Yu, and Lin Tao Mo Green, hello!"
We all marveled as An Ran stepped down from the air. Kong Xuan and I rushed forward to greet her—one pinched her nose while the other ruffled her hair. An Ran simply smiled and did not resist at all.
"Do you feel your power has increased significantly?" Kong Xuan asked curiously.
"Not bad, not bad!" An Ran replied with a bright smile.
"By the way, Guo'er’s soul or consciousness—it's still with you, right?" I was concerned about this issue and had another question lingering in my mind: would that consciousness be washed away by that formation too?
"Yes, it's still here," An Ran's answer relieved me greatly.
"Let's go; it's a big reunion!" Lin Tao said with a smile.
Hearing this, everyone turned around and prepared to leave.
"Wait a minute!" Aijia Yu, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke up: "I'm quite curious—do formations or True Martial Qi not need to replenish energy?"
Lin Tao chuckled lightly: "How could that be? Every once in a while, we have to feed them something."
I looked at Kong Xuan with suspicion. Does this thing still need to eat? What about sleeping? Does it need to use the bathroom? Kong Xuan seemed to understand my thoughts after a moment of surprise and looked at me disdainfully, saying, "Everything needs to replenish energy; that's common sense!"
"How do you feed them? Can I see?" Aijia Yu asked curiously, her fluttering eyelashes complementing her stunning beauty, undoubtedly a powerful charm.
Lin Tao seemed reluctant to refuse. He exchanged a glance with the dark green figure, who nodded noncommittally. "The formation for the next Moon Attendant will take several decades to form; it's perfectly safe for now."
"The energy of the formation is the same as True Martial Qi, all sourced from this kind of elixir!" Lin Tao took out a bottle from his pocket and poured out a few golden pills the size of glass marbles. "One of these pills can sustain them for a year!"
The dark green figure clapped his hands together, and a purple light orb gradually grew larger in his palms. When the orb expanded to the size of a volleyball, he flipped his hands, sending the light orb flying towards the clouds above the cave entrance.
With a loud boom, the purple orb collided with the Silver-White Cloud Cluster, and purple light instantly transformed into chain-like lightning that rapidly spiraled around the cloud before disappearing. The cloud then stopped changing and quickly shrank while moving toward us. By the time it reached the dark green figure, it had shrunk to the size of a basin and hovered in mid-air.
Lin Tao held out a pill in his palm as the cloud slowly drifted closer. A gap opened in its center, quickly enveloping both the pill and Lin Tao's hand, eliciting gasps of surprise from us.
Seeing our astonishment, Lin Tao laughed heartily and reached out with his other hand to touch the cloud as if petting an animal. The cloud then released Lin Tao's hand, but the pill in his palm had vanished. After consuming the pill, the cloud glowed with golden light, hovering in mid-air while gently rising and falling.
"Is that it?" I pointed at the cloud and laughed. "This is just like feeding a dog."
"The formation can't function while consuming elixirs; it takes at least twenty minutes to digest," Lin Tao said, raising his chin toward Aijia Yu. "Are you satisfied now?"
"Is it the same for all these layers of True Martial Qi below?" Aijia Yu pointed at the Moon Demon Cave.
"Pretty much. However, to save time, we merge these one hundred fifty layers of Qi into one before feeding; otherwise, feeding one hundred fifty times would be quite tedious!" Lin Tao sighed as he looked at the Moon Demon Cave. "If True Martial Qi had consciousness, I wonder if they would feel bored or weary after guarding this place for thousands of years?"
"Since there's nothing else to do, can you feed us some True Martial Qi too?" Aijia Yu asked sweetly.
Lin Tao exchanged another glance with the dark green figure and smiled wryly. "Let's finish feeding this formation first; we've never fed two Restrictions at once before; it's an ancestral rule!"
"You just said that this Moon Attendant won't appear for several decades! There's no danger; we just want to take a look!" Aijia Yu suddenly acted cute and spoiled, making us feel somewhat uncomfortable. She had been so serious earlier; now she was showing such a feminine side—quite a contrast.
Kong Xuan lightly coughed and walked over to stand beside the dark green figure, whispering something in his ear. The dark green figure looked at Kong Xuan with an odd expression but eventually nodded. "Alright!"
A cheer erupted, and I curiously pulled Kong Xuan aside, pressing him for answers about what could make Mo Lu disregard his ancestors' rules. Kong Xuan wore an expression that seemed to say, "Go ahead, hit me; even if you kill me, I won't tell," which made my fists itch.
Mo Lu whispered something to Lin Tao, whose expression changed as he nodded. Mo Lu maintained the same stance as before, gathering his palms to form a purple energy sphere. He waved it toward the Moon Demon Cave, and the purple sphere exploded in midair, transforming into over a hundred purple rays that shot straight for the Moon Demon Cave.
In an instant, the area beneath the Moon Demon Cave was filled with purple light, and a Thunderous Roar echoed continuously. After about a minute, a bright yellow cloud floated up and hovered beside Mo Lu.
Lin Tao fed a pill to this Bright Yellow Cloud. After swallowing the pill, the bright yellow cloud began to slowly undulate next to the silvery-white cloud.
"Does this also need half an hour to digest?" Aijia Yu asked, pointing at the bright yellow cloud.
"That's right!"
"Then I can relax!" Aijia Yu suddenly wore a strange smile, and a moonlight-colored halo around her began to grow larger.
This moonlight-colored halo felt so familiar; it seemed like I had seen it somewhere before. An Ran! Yes, when An Ran was possessed by the Moon Attendant, she emitted this kind of moonlight glow.
"The Moon Attendant! She has also been possessed by the Moon Attendant!" Kong Xuan was the first to shout.
"That's right, but unfortunately, you all realized it too late! Hahaha!" Aijia Yu let out a maniacal laugh and leaped toward the Moon Demon Cave.
