Zhong Kui's Diary
The flashlight flickered, revealing two passages ahead: one leading to the exit and the other unknown. Both were constructed from large blue stones. Without hesitation, I followed Qingcheng into the other passage.
Bai stopped complaining and silently followed behind us.
After about ten minutes of walking, we arrived at a hall. The layout was similar to before, with a Copper Pillar in the center. The only difference was that there were four large blue stone platforms surrounding the Copper Pillar. Each platform was about one meter high and two meters long and wide.
In the center of each Stage was a depression the size of a Sea Bowl, with a fist-sized Golden Sphere resting inside. A faint golden mist swirled around the Ball, giving it an air of sophistication and elegance.
"Is this the Nine Nether Grass?" I recalled hearing from White Nine Nether Grass that there were nine different forms, one of which was a golden Ball shape.
"Yes, otherwise why would I bring you here?" Bai replied disdainfully. "Alright, take it for yourselves. I suggest you all take some; after all, this is a rare find that comes once in a millennium..."
"Shut up!" I snapped.
"What’s wrong?" Bai asked in surprise.
"Nothing, I'm just going to get the Nine Nether Grass." I certainly wouldn't tell him that I had been annoyed by the phrase 'once in a millennium' for quite some time.
I leaped onto the stone Stage, propping the flashlight upright to illuminate the hall. Once it was set, I turned to Qingcheng: “Qingcheng, is there anything we need to be careful about with this Nine Nether Grass, like handling it gently or not turning it upside down because it's fragile?”
Qingcheng smiled and said, “No, no! Just take it!”
I turned around and glanced at White Snake, sensing an extreme longing in its eyes. A chill ran through me; what kind of expression was that?
I quickly shook my head. It was just a snake; why should I care so much?
Bending down to pick up the first golden ball, as soon as I made contact with it, a wild and violent gust of air rushed over me. My head rang, and the scene before me changed rapidly. The Azure Hall had vanished, replaced by a space engulfed in flames. Aside from the Azure Stone Platform beneath my feet, fire blazed in all directions, even above me. The heat was suffocating; I felt as if I were inside a Furnace.
Accompanying the sound of flames burning, there seemed to be thousands of Vengeful Spirits screaming in madness, as if countless Vengeful Spirits were being roasted over the flames alongside me in this Furnace.
What on earth is happening?
"Who dares to intrude upon my domain?" A commanding voice echoed through the roaring flames.
My scalp tingled. Who spoke? How could there be someone in this mysterious space? What was going on?
"Who are you? What is this place?" I shouted back.
"Begone!" The authoritative voice suddenly bellowed, and for a moment, the entire area reverberated with an endless echo. My ears rang like thunder, making my scalp tingle and causing dizziness and nausea. Along with this voice came a Heat Wave that suddenly hit me; I felt my whole body burning, like a shrimp thrown into a steamer, and I could see my skin turning red rapidly. It wasn't until the echo of that shout gradually faded that the Heat Wave subsided.
Damn, this person can wield such power with just words.
"This is the Blazing Barrier of the Ice Fire Wind Thunder Mysterious Realm!" The voice no longer echoed but was filled with disdain. "You are so weak yet dare to intrude upon my territory? Prepare to die! Blazing Flame Spiral Lantern!"
"Hey! You need to let me explain!" I initially wanted to chat casually and explain how I ended up here, but unexpectedly, they launched an attack without any intention of conversation.
Indeed, it was a major attack. Seven lanterns, each two meters in diameter, emerged from the flames ahead. The lanterns were engulfed in flames and spun slowly like a carousel as they approached me leisurely.
How do I deal with this? In a panic, I reached into my Spatial Bag without knowing what I grabbed and hurled it at the lanterns.
With a hiss, the flames of the lantern trembled slightly, momentarily halting their advance before continuing toward me. Although it had little effect, I had no other options. I kept grabbing items from my Spatial Bag and desperately threw them at the flaming lanterns.
Although this could slow down the Blazing Lanterns, it was only a temporary measure. Before long, the seven Blazing Lanterns were right in front of me.
Damn, if only I had a Fire Extinguisher right now. That thought flashed through my mind, and at that moment, I felt a weight in my hand. Looking down, I was surprised to find a red Fire Extinguisher in my grasp.
Not bothering to think about how the Fire Extinguisher appeared, I quickly pulled out the pin, held the nozzle with one hand, and pressed down on the handle with the other. With a hiss, a stream of white powder shot out from the nozzle, spraying wildly at the nearest flaming lantern. With a puff, the flames were extinguished.
Seeing that the Fire Extinguisher was effective filled me with joy. I held the nozzle and sprayed the powder at the remaining six Blazing Lanterns one by one. Before long, all the lanterns were extinguished.
A stern voice echoed again: "You crawlers have actually extinguished my Blazing Lanterns. Then you shall face even greater wrath. Tremble, insignificant humans. Flame—Dragon—Killing—Formation!"
A clear Dragon Roar resonated from the flames as a massive dragon made of fire appeared before me. It soared majestically in the air before charging directly at me. The enormous dragon head was as large as a locomotive, and the entire dragon rushed toward me like a speeding train.
Damn, with such a huge size, what good is my Fire Extinguisher? Unless... unless I had a Fire Truck; perhaps that could provide some resistance.
Just as that thought crossed my mind, the Fire Extinguisher vanished from my hand, and suddenly a Fire Truck appeared before me. The fire hose on top was already spraying a silver-white column of water onto the fire dragon, creating thick white mist and hissing sounds.
What on earth is happening? Is it possible that whatever I think of just appears? With this thought in mind, I silently wished for another Fire Truck... uh... make that ten Fire Trucks...
Sure enough, several Fire Trucks appeared in front of me, and multiple streams of water doused the fire dragon simultaneously. Before long, the fire dragon vanished without a trace, and both the Fire Extinguisher and Fire Truck disappeared as if they had never existed.
It really is like that! Feeling more assured, I couldn't help but shout proudly: "Hey! Whoever you are, show me what else you've got!"
The stern voice began to shift into a soft chant, as if reciting an extremely long incantation. By the end, his voice gradually rose: "...O ancient God of Fire who transcends time, release your ancient might and let flames become the sole order between earth and sky..."
As he continued, his voice grew more urgent and higher-pitched: "...Grant me the power of punishment! —Flame—Devour—All!"
Suddenly, the flames above my head seemed to be driven by a fierce wind, swirling like a vortex to form a massive ring. A bright red light shone through the hollow center, tightly enveloping the entire space. The temperature around me rose sharply, and I felt a piercing burn all over my body, as if my hair and eyebrows were already beginning to singe. The air was thick and tangible, each breath requiring immense effort, and inhaling this scalding air felt like pouring boiling water into my lungs, causing excruciating pain.
A flash of red light flickered in the clouds, and a fireball descended, trailing black smoke as it roared toward me. Then came the second, the third, followed by a dazzling rain of fire. The fierce wind carried a heat wave that rolled in, and the intense, sharp burning sensation nearly suffocated me.
Whoosh—!
The first fireball landed in front of me with a thunderous roar, scattering countless fiery fragments. Among them, two fist-sized fireballs hurtled toward my head.
I quickly conjured a riot shield and held it up in front of my chest. With two loud bangs, the fireballs struck the shield, turning into ashes.
Damn, this was just one of the large fireballs; how was I supposed to deal with this rain of fire?
Whoosh—!
The second fireball came roaring at me, this time landing precisely. A basin-sized fireball came crashing straight toward my head. Gritting my teeth, I summoned all my strength, leaning forward and bracing the shield firmly in front of me.
Boom!
With a deafening sound, the fireball struck the shield, sending countless smaller fireballs flying in all directions. The immense impact knocked me to the ground, my arms numbed from the shock as if my entire skeletal structure had shattered, causing unbearable pain.
Fortunately, I had the shield to absorb some of the impact; if that fireball had hit me directly, it would have been hard not to turn into a roasted pig.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh!
In the distance, three more fireballs rushed toward me rapidly.
Damn, do I even want to live anymore? Are you bullying me because I can't lift my shield?
By the way, why didn't I think of creating a few protective shields?
In an instant, a dome of approximately ten meters in diameter and one meter thick made of Tempered Glass enveloped me. The fireballs outside kept crashing against the Glass Case, but the Glass Case remained almost completely unmoved.
Come on, a one-meter-thick Tempered Glass can probably withstand a missile, right? Your fireball is only the size of a Basin; it's like trying to break a rock with an egg.
Moreover, after being blocked by the Glass Case, the air temperature inside dropped significantly, returning to normal room temperature. I leisurely lit a cigarette and shouted, "Bring out some more skills; my Glass Case says the pressure is not great!"
After about seven or eight minutes of meteoric fireballs falling, they gradually dwindled until they stopped completely. The Glass Case before me disappeared again, and a voice echoed in the air.
"Pass!"
Upon hearing this voice, I was at a loss for words. Motherfucker, did you think that my life-and-death struggle here was just a level to you? That's so unreasonable! If I had known it was just a Pass game, I would have... I would have input 'up down left right baba' to generate thirty lives...
"The domain has been broken; my Mystical Realm will soon unlock its seal. You may leave!" The authoritative voice sounded again, and the scene before me changed. I found myself back in the Azure Hall, picking up the Golden Sphere from the groove.
