Zhong Kui's Diary
Upon first encountering the Golden Sphere, a violent surge of energy rushed into my body, both strange and familiar. My head rang, and in an instant, I entered the Ice Realm.
Unlike the previous Blazing Barrier, this Mystical Realm was filled with vast expanses of ice and snow, with only the large green stone platform beneath my feet. The dazzling white surrounded me on all sides, causing my eyes to ache slightly.
Fortunately, I didn't feel particularly cold here. It seemed the Fire Spirit Pearl was working; that White Snake hadn't deceived me after all.
"Who dares to intrude upon my domain?" A voice echoed through the ground, cold as ancient ice, devoid of any emotion.
Having seen my fair share of things, I wasn't particularly surprised by the sudden voice. Instead, I casually replied, "This must be the Ice Realm, right?"
"Indeed, this is the Icebound Expanse of the Ice, Fire, Wind, and Thunder Fourfold Profound Realm. Since you know this is a Mystical Realm, you must be prepared. Prepare to die—Ice—Storm!" The icy voice wasted no time before launching an attack.
Suddenly, a ten-meter-wide vortex appeared in the air. At first, it spun slowly, revealing countless sharp ice shards within—gleaming white and bright. Gradually, the vortex's rotation quickened until it became a grayish transparent whirlpool moving steadily toward me.
Before entering, I had already decided that no matter what happened, I would first try to see if I could conjure something. Perhaps Qingcheng had made a mistake?
I quickly thought of one-meter-thick Tempered Glass. With that in hand, I wouldn't fear any Blizzard; even a Butcher's Knife storm wouldn't intimidate me.
However, just as Qingcheng had said, in this Mystical Realm, I couldn't conjure anything at all.
Watching the approaching storm made me panic slightly. A storm alone would be manageable; at worst, I'd just get swept up in it. The ground was covered in snow; even if I fell, it wouldn't be fatal. But this storm contained countless ice shards that could tear me apart upon contact.
The storm drew closer; I could even hear the whistling of ice shards within it.
I forced myself to calm down. The higher up in the vortex one went, the faster it spun; conversely, it slowed down at the bottom. If I could dive into the very bottom of this vortex storm, I should be safe from harm.
The vortex was now less than five meters away. Without time to think further, I shouted and prepared to jump into the snow beneath the stone platform. The only plan I could conceive was to bury myself deep in the snow; at that moment, what could that storm do to me?
"Don't jump!" A sharp voice called out beside me. I froze in place, stunned because that voice belonged to Qingcheng.
Looking back, I saw a girl behind me, her hair flying wildly in the storm, and a pair of bright eyes looking at me with a mix of anger and reproach. Who else could it be but Xiao Qingcheng?
“Qingcheng? How did you get in here?” I shouted.
“Don’t jump! If you do, you’ll be done for. Stay still!” Qingcheng pulled me to her side, took out the Peach Wood Sword, and began chanting Nian Nian as she waved it a few times. Then, with a sharp command, she shouted, “Steady as a mountain!”
With her shout, a black orb of light at the tip of the sword suddenly expanded, enveloping both of us.
At the same time, the Blizzard crashed against the black orb. It felt as if this black sphere was a towering mountain, standing firm against the raging storm and the relentless ice shards. It remained quietly in place, truly steady as a mountain.
I don’t know how long it lasted, but gradually the Blizzard subsided. Ice shards fell like rain, bouncing off the surface of the black orb. By the time the Blizzard completely stopped, the fallen ice had formed a pile over a meter high around the stone platform.
At that moment, Qingcheng seemed to have exhausted too much energy and stumbled. I quickly stepped forward to support her.
“Not bad, little reptile. You managed to break my Blizzard. Next, you will continue to feel my wrath! Absolute—zero—degrees!” A cold voice echoed again.
A mass of dark clouds surged in the sky, followed by snowflakes beginning to fall. At first, they were about as thick as fingers, but soon there were palm-sized flakes mixed in. The snowflakes increased in number and size until finally, even tabletop-sized flakes were drifting down from above. In an instant, snow swirled around us; whether small or large, they all took on a six-pointed star shape.
Just then, the clouds began to churn violently, and those large snowflakes transformed into ice shards in an instant. Incredibly, these ice shards did not fall; instead, they danced joyfully in the air.
What happened next was astonishing: the dancing ice shards seemed to absorb the cold from the ground below. The six-pointed star-shaped ice began to grow larger at an alarming rate.
These ice shards rapidly expanded until they filled the entire space tightly. Their vitality was so abundant that their immense power instantly crushed the black orb of light. The sharp ice shards rushed toward us with incredible speed.
Without thinking further, I shouted and tightly held Qingcheng in my arms, my only thought being that I absolutely could not let her be harmed again.
I felt something continuously touching me all over my body, but there was no pain. What was going on? I focused my gaze and saw that any ice shard that slightly touched my body instantly melted away. This melting seemed contagious; before long, the rate of melting surpassed that of growth. The space created by the melting ice grew larger and larger until finally, all the ice between us turned into nothingness.
“The effect of the Fire Spirit Pearl! Not afraid of this absolute zero!” Qingcheng peeked out from my embrace to observe and seemed to want to push me away. After struggling slightly and seeing that I had no intention of letting go, she simply rested her head on my shoulder.
When all the ice had melted away, that cold voice echoed once more: "You crawlers have actually managed to break through my absolute zero. It seems you possess considerable strength. I will do my utmost to contend with you! Eternal Ice of Ages Ah, I shall form a contract with you; please grant me the power of frost! Ultimate Freeze Spell, Ultimate Ice Sword!"
With a crack, a massive block of ice emerged from the distant snowfield, slowly ascending into the air. Following it was a second block of ice bursting forth from the snow, then a third, a fourth... In no time, countless large blocks of ice floated in the sky.
The ice blocks were not stationary; they moved in what seemed like chaotic patterns. Whenever two blocks collided, they would crack and merge into a new larger block. The sound of cracking continued incessantly, and more and more blocks joined together, growing larger and larger. With the final crack, these blocks combined into a giant sword over a hundred meters tall, shimmering with an enchanting cold light.
The giant sword swayed slowly in the air, adjusting its angle until its tip pointed at us. At that moment, the sword emitted a clear sound reminiscent of Dragon Roar, swiftly thrusting toward us.
There were no feints or embellishments; the giant sword sliced through the air, producing a faint sound of wind and thunder. This Thunderous Strike was truly unstoppable.
Seeing this scene, Qingcheng looked up at me and unexpectedly smiled lightly, appearing utterly relaxed.
At the moment the giant sword took shape, my heart tightened. I never imagined that the ultimate move in this Ice Realm would be such an enormous sword. It was hard to fathom how we could possibly withstand this strike. However, all my worries vanished upon seeing Qingcheng's smile. Since she looked so at ease, she must have had a plan.
"Zheng Nan, do you think I'm beautiful?" Qingcheng asked me with a slight smile.
My goodness, the giant sword was about to strike, and you still have the mood to ask me this? I pointed toward the sword and said, "Qingcheng, that question seems even more important."
Seeing that I didn't answer her question, a hint of disappointment flashed in Qingcheng's eyes. She lowered her head and softly recited two incantations. After finishing, she looked up at me and gently said, "Don't move!"
"What?" I was taken aback.
Qingcheng smiled slightly and leaned in to give me a light kiss on the cheek. Then she quickly leaned back, a bittersweet smile appearing on her lips as tears shimmered in her eyes, filled with determination.
I was momentarily stunned. Just as I stood there in shock, Qingcheng suddenly pushed me away. Using that momentum, she leaped high into the air and met that giant sword with her own flesh and blood.
"Don't!" My heart shattered as I let out an incredibly painful scream.
Boom!
The giant sword struck Qingcheng's body in mid-air.
Both remained suspended as if time had frozen, Qingcheng's body shining with a blinding golden light, while the massive sword began to crack. With a loud bang, the giant sword shattered into pieces, and the golden light surrounding Qingcheng suddenly vanished, like a kite with a broken string, falling amidst the scattered fragments.
At that moment, the entire world was left with only Qingcheng plummeting from the sky. I opened my arms to embrace Qingcheng's body, even as the shards of ice splattered and cut me to shreds; I did not move an inch.
The pain on my body could not compare to the anguish in my heart at this moment, that heart-wrenching pain, that deep, bone-penetrating sorrow.
My mind was blank, as if time had been divided into frames, and Qingcheng kept falling and freezing in those frames. Each freeze brought forth a scene related to Qingcheng, whether smiling or frowning, worried or caring; countless images flooded my mind.
Finally, as Qingcheng's body landed in my arms, my heart felt instantly hollow. I held Qingcheng tightly and let out a beast-like roar:
"Ah——————————"
My mind was empty, and the sound that escaped my lips was the most primal of howls.
I wanted to cry, but no tears would come.
