Zhong Kui's Diary
Due to the Fire Spirit Pearl, the blood that flowed did not freeze; instead, it dripped onto the Ice Surface, creating a cloud of white mist. Then, I saw the blood spreading across the Ice Surface at a visible speed, and before long, a fist-sized red Round appeared before my eyes.
Seeing this situation, my eyes lit up. I wasn't foolish; it was clear that my blood was having an effect on the ice. I took out my dagger and stabbed at the spot where the blood had fallen.
With a soft thud, the dagger surprisingly penetrated about five centimeters deep. This depth was only achievable when I first started digging into the ice.
It worked!
Overjoyed, I raised the dagger and began to dig wildly. Soon, I had cleared away all the blood-stained ice. The next step was to stab myself occasionally to let my blood soak into the ice as I dug. In less than ten minutes, I finally excavated a Big Hole at the bottom layer of the ice. Ignoring the cold air rushing towards me, I leaned down to look, and there it was—the vibrant and translucent Nine Nether Grass.
Unable to resist, I reached out to touch one of the Nine Nether Grass leaves. A gentle aura emanated from my fingertips. I thought to myself that this divine herb was impressive; even in such a cold environment, it still radiated warmth.
After some consideration, I cut a large piece of ice to make a flowerpot and then dug out a big chunk of Nine Nether Grass along with its soil. While digging, I realized that although this soil felt soft and fluffy like regular soil, it was extremely cold. When I moved it into the flowerpot, my fingers became numb from the cold, and upon closer inspection, I found they had turned into popsicles.
I finally understood what Kong Xuan meant by extreme cold; it turned out that beneath this passageway was where the Nine Nether Grass thrived in frigid conditions. The passage above was merely constructed by Liu An using the temperature from this extreme cold.
I dared not make any sudden movements for fear that even a slight bump would cause my fingers to freeze off. I quietly waited for the energy from the Fire Spirit Pearl within me to restore normalcy to my frozen fingers. After slowly moving them and feeling no abnormalities, I placed the flowerpot into my Mustard Seed Pendant.
Finally done! Remembering what Yazhi said earlier—that three plants of Nine Nether Grass were needed to save someone—I wondered if that was indeed true? Back then, Yazhi had been trying to persuade us to remove the golden orb; his words might not be reliable. But what if it really was like that?
Torn as I was, I didn't have time to dig for another Nine Nether Grass because it was already past six in the morning. I had to hurry back, exit the tomb, descend the mountain, call for a ride to Feng City, and then catch the morning train back to Star City. Time was tight, and digging for another Nine Nether Grass would take at least three hours—this included the time spent using my blood as a means of access.
I climbed out of the round pit, grabbed my flashlight, waved my dagger around, shouted loudly, and pushed off with my feet. My whole body slid up along the Ice Surface. After crawling about seven or eight meters and losing momentum, I thrust my dagger forcefully into the Ice Surface and twisted my wrist to create a hole. Then using my dagger for leverage while climbing up with both hands and feet, I pulled out the dagger just in time for my toes to land on the freshly made hole for stability before pushing off again with my toes to climb another seven or eight meters.
You might think it's just a thirty-degree slope and not that exaggerated; however, when it's an Ice Surface at that angle, it's entirely different. This method requires exceptional agility and body coordination.
I am indeed skilled—no doubt about it.
Continuing this way without pause, I quickly reached near the Copper Door. Not bothering to rest, all I could think about was getting out of here; without Qingcheng in this passageway, there was nothing I could do—no drinking water, smoking, or eating ham.
I turned the Copper Door back towards the entrance area and dashed towards it.
As I approached the entrance, a sudden thought struck me: without Qingcheng, how on earth would I open that massive stone door? Damn! That stone door is at least one meter thick! And I'm not versed in Taoist Spells—what should I do? For Qingcheng, this might be an easy task; for me, however, it felt nearly impossible.
However, I soon realized that my worries were unnecessary because before I even reached the entrance, I caught sight of a faint gray light in the distance. This light wasn't from a flashlight or any lamp; it was something else entirely—I saw light! At that moment, it felt so welcoming simply because it indicated that the Portal was open.
My footsteps grew increasingly hurried as I exerted all my strength to run. To put it bluntly, I wasn't just using every ounce of energy I had; I was using the strength of a mother cow. In the quiet corridor, the only sounds echoing were my footsteps and my rapid breathing. The exit of the corridor was getting closer, and the light ahead was becoming brighter; clearly, it was getting light outside.
As I approached, I realized that this exit had been shattered by force. The image of Yazhi involuntarily flashed in my mind. It seemed that the dragon hadn't lied to me; he had indeed only used ten percent of his strength while fighting me.
This thought barely crossed my mind as all my attention focused on the ancient tomb's exit. Ten meters, five meters, three meters—I was getting closer to the exit.
I vowed that from now on, I would never enter such an ancient tomb again. If I broke this vow, I would take up the sword for self-castration!
Just as I was about to burst through the exit, a flash of golden light appeared outside, followed by a Golden Blade slicing directly toward my head.
I shouted in alarm. Thankfully, my years of martial arts training held up; although my feet continued moving forward, my upper body leaned back. My entire body bent at the waist like a broken sugar cane, folding in half.
This move is known in martial arts as Iron Bridge. The complete technique involves falling backward and pushing off the ground with your hands to spring back up like a spring. A true master can pivot at the knees and spring back up after falling backward.
Seeing this, the Golden Blade seemed almost alive; it swiftly retreated and then came down vertically, relentlessly targeting my head.
Damn! Did my head have a grudge against you? At that moment, I couldn't afford to complain. I pushed off with my hands and moved forward awkwardly like a four-legged robot, quickly covering more than two meters. This was aided by my previous momentum; otherwise, even if I could move, I wouldn't have been able to dodge that downward strike.
At this point, I pushed myself up with force, springing back to my feet and suddenly realizing that I had exited the corridor of the ancient tomb.
There was no time for reflection because behind me, the whoosh of wind sounded again. Clearly, that Golden Blade adjusted its angle once more and came slashing at me.
I suddenly twisted my body; the movement was so intense that I nearly twisted into a pretzel shape. Raising my hand to meet the incoming Golden Blade, I swung the flashlight in my hand to block it.
With a clang, the Golden Blade collided with the flashlight, producing a loud noise. My flashlight was actually sliced in half by the Golden Blade! Fortunately, with enough force behind it, the Golden Blade paused mid-air after being blocked by me.
I threw one half of the flashlight like a flying knife at the Golden Blade. With a ping sound, it struck the blade and sent it retreating several meters back. This seemed to anger it; golden light flared as it spun in mid-air, creating a swirling golden shadow that rushed toward me.
Hey! Just because you’re fierce doesn’t mean you can bully me! I bent down to pick up a stone from the ground and swung it toward that mass of golden light.
With a bang, the stone hit the Golden Blade hard enough to nearly knock it to the ground. Seemingly stunned by my throw, the Golden Blade hovered in mid-air without moving.
Seeing it stationary, I adjusted my stance and took two steps back for momentum before leaping into the air. With a twist and side kick mid-air, I managed to kick the Golden Blade into a nearby pool of water with a loud thud.
"Damn!" I quickly rummaged through my Mustard Seed Pendant but found no suitable weapon. Helplessly, I pulled out a dagger and watched the pool, waiting for the Golden Blade to emerge again from beneath the water.
Against the Golden Blade with just a dagger in hand, I wasn't at a disadvantage either—bring it on!
After a while, there was no movement in the water pool; it was as if Golden Blade had never appeared. If it weren't for the ripples on the surface of the water where it had fallen, I would have doubted that everything that just happened was merely an illusion.
I waited a moment longer, and still, there was no response from the pool. I shouted, "Come out! Do you only know how to ambush? If you don't show yourself soon, I'm leaving!"
Silence. A dead silence.
I felt that something was off; this silence was unreasonable. The distant sounds of cicadas and insects had vanished without a trace, and in that instant, I felt as if I were in an ancient tomb.
Without warning, a pressure descended upon me. This pressure felt tangible, and I sensed my blood vessels swelling, as if in the next moment my blood would burst forth from my veins.
A figure flashed before the stone door—white-faced with a long beard and sharp eyes. It was Yazhi. Upon seeing me, Yazhi let out a soft "oh," and with a flick of his robe, the pressure instantly disappeared.
"Did you find the Nine Nether Grass?" Yazhi asked with a smile.
I took several deep breaths and replied, "Yes, I got it. I was about to head back when someone intercepted me here."
"Yes, I know. It was Liu An's clone that stopped you. I set up an ambush specifically to deal with that beast, but unfortunately, it seems he got away." Yazhi huffed. "It's all your fault for being here; otherwise, I could have trapped him."
