Zhong Kui's Diary
Finally, the increasingly dark night reminded us. I took out a firework and lit it with a lighter, aiming it upward at an angle. With a whoosh, a golden orb shot into the sky, bursting open and forming a large golden axe that gradually faded away.
Next, I lit the firework of Sima Sanguang, which also burst in the air, creating an axe, but his axe was silver.
A golden axe and a silver axe—what do these two axes mean? Could it be that the Axe Gang occupies Dominion Villa?
After lighting the fireworks, Sima Sanguang and I found a place to sit down, smoking silently, unsure of what would happen next.
As time passed, the originally pitch-black night surprisingly brightened slightly. Looking up, a full moon hung in the sky, casting a silvery veil over the entire land.
I casually tossed my cigarette butt on the ground and stomped it out before standing up to look around, cursing, "Could it be that they didn't see this firework?"
Sima Sanguang let out a bitter laugh. "Do you have any more fireworks left?"
"None."
I picked up a fist-sized stone from the ground and threw it forcefully at the treetops. A rustling sound of leaves followed, as if the stone had passed through the leaves and fallen down.
Listening to the sound of the stone passing through the leaves, a sense of helplessness surged within me. I felt lost, completely unaware of what I was supposed to do next. I hadn't felt this way in a long time; the first time was back in middle school when I had a dispute with my English teacher. After knocking my English teacher unconscious with one punch, I felt just like this.
I continued to pick up stones and throw them down. The leaves below rustled in response, occasionally accompanied by a hoarse thud—likely from stones hitting thicker trunks.
Just as I threw another stone and perked up my ears to listen for its descent, I faintly heard a whistling sound cutting through the air at high speed. Then came a sharp 'thud,' as if something like an iron nail had pierced into the trunk behind us.
Sima Sanguang had been crouching on the ground. Upon hearing this sound, he immediately stood up. We both looked around anxiously before finally fixing our gaze on the treetops across from us.
A gust of night wind blew through, and the shadowy giant trees rustled softly. In the closest position to us, a faint red light flickered among the leaves. Gradually, the red light grew brighter, as if a source of light was moving within the treetops, slowly approaching us.
Just as the red light neared the edge of the treetop, the branches swayed and leaves fluttered, as if a powerful electric fan was blowing inside. A large hole was blown open where the bright red light was, and then a person dressed in a Red Robe walked through that Big Hole while holding a red lantern.
Yes, they walked over as if floating in mid-air, resembling the deities that fly in myths.
I exchanged a startled glance with Sima Sanguang; for a moment, we were both stunned. Earlier on the stone bridge, we were shocked by the Ghost Zombie's ability to appear and disappear out of nowhere, but it was merely a sudden occurrence that we hadn’t had time to express our astonishment before it vanished. Now, this Red-Clad Figure walking slowly in mid-air felt entirely different; each step seemed to tread upon our hearts.
As the Red-Clad Figure drew closer, we finally saw clearly that this figure was actually a young beauty with striking features, though her complexion was exceptionally pale, giving her an air of coldness.
Finally, the woman in red stopped three meters away from us and spoke: “Who ignited the Silver Axe Order?”
What is the Silver Axe Order? I exchanged bewildered glances with Sima Sanguang again, and then suddenly realized something. I pointed at Sima Sanguang and said, “It was him; he set off the silver axe firework.”
We had each ignited one firework—one golden axe and one silver axe.
The woman in red nodded at Sima Sanguang: “I have come to take you to Dominion Villa.”
Hearing her say this, I hurriedly asked, “What about me?”
Sima Sanguang shouted loudly as well: “What about him?”
The woman in red didn’t even glance at me and calmly told Sima Sanguang: “He ignited the Golden Axe Token; someone else will naturally come to guide him later!”
Yo Xie, there are different levels too; it sounds quite upscale. I wonder if there will be any special services. Ugh, what am I even thinking?
Sima Sanguang took a breath upon hearing this and then asked, "Is there any way to do this? Is the Golden Axe Token higher level or the Silver Axe Order higher level?"
The woman in red showed no change in expression, remaining calm as she replied, "There is no such thing as higher or lower levels; they each have different functions. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet—are these colors ranked in any order?"
Sima Sanguang laughed and said, "Of course, red is at the front!"
The woman in red gave Sima Sanguang a faint glance and said, "Let's go!"
Sima Sanguang pointed towards the giant tree and exclaimed, "Are you going that way?"
The woman in red nodded. "Naturally."
Sima Sanguang suddenly shouted, "But I can't fly! How am I supposed to get over there?"
The woman in red did not answer. Instead, she took out a very delicate Roller from her sleeve. Bending slightly, she made a clicking sound, and the Roller immediately hovered beside her foot. We were astonished and moved closer to take a look, only to burst into laughter; it turned out that this woman in red was walking on a steel wire as thick as a pencil. In the pitch-black night, a black steel wire hanging in mid-air would naturally go unnoticed. The earlier sounds must have been from something like flying claws or iron hooks that had caught onto our side of the trunk. I thought she could fly.
At this moment, placing the Roller on the steel wire indicated that Sima Sanguang was to hang onto the Roller and slide across.
"What if I fall?" Sima Sanguang asked, pointing at the two handles on the Roller.
"There's no way back!" the woman in red replied calmly.
"Take care!" I patted Sima Sanguang on the shoulder and joked, "Even if you feel itchy, don't scratch!"
Sima Sanguang smiled in agreement, stepped forward to grab the Roller, took a running start, shouted loudly, and suddenly soared into the air, quickly sliding towards the treetop on the other side. The woman in red followed behind at a leisurely pace with her lantern. In no time, both of them disappeared into the big hole on the other side as the red light gradually faded away.
For a moment, I was the only one left in the entire realm, and out of sheer boredom, I began to sing.
I gazed into the distance, wondering how many dreams were soaring freely above the moon...
Not long after I started singing, a glimmer of gold appeared at the entrance of the Big Hole atop the tree canopy across from me. Then, a figure in a golden robe emerged, holding a golden lantern. Unlike the slow demeanor of the woman in red, this golden-robed person rushed over almost at a run.
Halfway there, the golden-robed figure shouted, "What are you singing for? You sing so poorly, and you're talking about the moon? Aren't you afraid it will come down and take you out?"
I stared in disbelief at the approaching woman. She was quite beautiful, and compared to the cold woman in red earlier, this Golden Robed Woman was like a burst of flame.
She stopped in front of me and casually set up her Roller, casting a disdainful glance my way. "You're being chased like a dog, yet you still have time to sing."
"Hey, how do you know I'm being chased?" I asked in surprise.
"Everyone who comes to our Dominion Villa is someone who can't make it outside!" The Golden Robed Woman said impatiently. "If you want to get into the villa, hurry up and get on board. Stop dawdling; I still need to go back and play Mahjong!"
Her repeated disrespect only fueled my anger. I crossed my arms and shot her a sideways glance. "Then go play Mahjong! I'm not going in!"
"Are you sure you don't want to go in? You won't regret it?" The Golden Robed Woman looked at me with a half-smile.
"Yes, I've made up my mind! I won't regret it!" To prove my determination, I sat down on the ground and lit a cigarette.
"Yo Xie, I didn't expect you to have some spirit," the Golden Robed Woman said, her eyes twinkling as she relaxed. She sat down on the Steel Wire while holding her lantern. Wow, this girl has pretty good balance.
"Of course! Even clay figurines have some spirit left!" I exhaled smoke and replied dismissively.
"Let me show you something good."
"What is it?"
The Golden Robed Woman fished out a silver Ball from her bosom, holding it in her palm. From a distance, it looked somewhat like stainless steel, gleaming with a cold light, giving off a high-end appearance.
After pressing a few buttons on the Silver Sphere, it seemed to activate a switch, and the Silver Sphere projected a red Light Screen, resembling a Projector. Above the Silver Sphere appeared a three-dimensional image.
The background of the image was a large tree in a dense forest, one I recognized well—it was the same tree where I had encountered Sima Sanguang before. Beneath the tree lay five or six corpses of brown bears, and about ten people stood nearby. Aside from Yang Zi and two others, there was one familiar face I least wanted to see—Kong Xuan.
The other ten or so soldiers dressed in jungle camouflage were scattered around. I noticed one soldier had an emblem on his chest; this emblem belonged to a well-known special forces unit in our country. Damn, Kong Xuan actually managed to bring in special forces? How is that possible? Even the Ling Family wouldn't have such authority.
When Kong Xuan was boasting earlier, I thought he was joking. I could understand if he used Lingfeng to mobilize the Special Police or even the armed police. Although the name Special Police sounds intimidating, it's possible for a county-level public security bureau to form a Special Police squad; seeing them carry out missions is quite common.
As for the armed police, their level is slightly higher but not particularly difficult to manage. After all, the armed police are under local administration and can be considered dual-managed. As long as local finances allocate more funds to the armed police and maintain good relations, it wouldn't be hard for a city-level leader to make a call and pull an armed police detachment for a mission.
However, special forces are legitimate military units. The deployment of military forces only happens during national crises; usually, even if there are riots locally, it's the armed police that respond. To mobilize troops is quite exaggerated; it requires signatures from the General Staff Ministry and the Military Commission.
Damn, am I really threatening national security? Or has Kong Xuan's determination to kill me moved Xi Da Da?
