Zhong Kui's Diary
This is a typical one-bedroom apartment.
Upon entering, there is a living room furnished with a gray fabric sofa. In front of the sofa is a Coffee Table, which holds a tall vase filled with colorful dried flowers. Further ahead is a TV cabinet, above which hangs a large-screen LCD television.
To the left is the kitchen and bathroom, fully equipped with everything one might need. Opening the refrigerator reveals an assortment of fruits and vegetables, while to the right of the living room is the bedroom, which has a door leading out to the balcony.
Wow, this place is actually quite nice! I praised it as I returned to the living room, turned on the TV, and discovered that there were even more channels available than at home, likely due to the signal receiver that had been installed.
I casually switched channels, tossed the remote aside, leaned back on the sofa with my feet resting on the Coffee Table, lit a cigarette, took a puff, and exhaled a smoke ring.
Since Shacheng, I hadn't had a moment to catch my breath. This Shadow Spirit had possessed me; I encountered danger in an abandoned temple and had been on the run for days. It wasn't until I entered the Xuanyuan Ancient Tree that I finally came to my senses. I couldn't help but let out a long sigh and felt poetic: "Unfortunate scenery, pursued for thousands of miles; Wan Li fleeing, gazing at ominous signs within and without; my forehead gleaming darkly..."
What did I do to deserve this?
No, I need to sort things out and clarify everything.
The reason this Shadow Spirit sought to possess me was that I kicked the Shattering Stone. In its anger and humiliation, it ordered this Shadow Spirit to kill me. Fortunately, with the help of Kong Xuan and Qingcheng, I managed to escape death. In this matter, Shattering Stone was merely a catalyst; first of all, it is the nephew of the Six God Monk. Secondly, it stole the Six God Monk's Yeling Mirror and Yin-Yang Ancient Coin. Most importantly, that Scarred Boss inadvertently saw my Yin-Yang Physique and thus wanted me to help him with something.
What exactly that something is remains unknown; all I know is that it relates to Dominion Villa. If I'm not mistaken, both Six Deities and Scarred Boss should be people from Dominion Villa.
What frustrates me most is that from the very beginning, I had no intention of helping them with anything. However, due to being relentlessly pursued by Kong Xuan, I ended up exhausted and found myself in Dominion Villa.
How did things develop into this?
Hmm, it must be that my earlier reasoning was off; that's why I couldn't sort things out properly. I need to replay everything in my mind and reanalyze it.
In General Mountain, due to a coincidence with a mudslide, we entered Thunder Sound Temple. Inside Thunder Sound Temple, the Six God Monk used a drug called Fragrance/Soft Muscle Powder to incapacitate us, presumably to capture us and force me to do something.
However, what happened next was rather strange. No matter what, I am a rogue with principles and would never have any improper thoughts about Ai. So how did I end up confusedly taking off Ai's clothes?
According to Sima Sanguang's analysis, there is something odd about Ai. This makes even less sense; what could be so strange about her? Does she want to seduce me?
Indeed, she did act a bit strangely afterward. We didn't actually do anything, but she refused to explain and instead looked as if I had taken advantage of her. Could it be... that I was really a bit confused at that time?
Things became increasingly unclear. Kong Xuan was pursuing me relentlessly, and this matter even had the support of the Ling Family. After all, Kong Xuan is just the head of a dilapidated Taoist temple and shouldn't have such power. They kept switching various means of transportation to chase us down, even using military helicopters. Only the Ling Family could manage something like this.
These alone wouldn't be so unbelievable, but the most incredible part was that special forces appeared in the dense forest. Special forces! This is completely different from Military Helicopters; the Ling Family definitely doesn't have that kind of authority.
Moreover, Sima Sanguang was also being pursued by the Dragon Group. He must have been left with no choice but to accept help from Dominion Villa. What exactly is Dominion Villa? Why did they choose to help us? Are there others besides us who entered Dominion Villa? From the earlier situation where Scarred Boss was dispatching transportation everywhere, it seems that Dominion Villa has a vast influence. I even suspect they have hidden power throughout the country.
It’s one thing to think about this; once I start untangling it all, various questions come rushing in, making my head spin. In my confusion, I ended up falling asleep.
When I woke up, the only thing still glowing in the room was the television, where two characters in ancient costumes were fighting. Outside the window was pitch black. I hurried to the door and pressed the Light Bulb switch; the room instantly lit up. I felt somewhat surprised; when I came in earlier, it was already dark outside while the villa was bright as day. This indicated that the light source here was artificial. Since it was artificial light, why would they need to turn it off?
Thinking about it, perhaps because it is artificial light, they can turn it on or off whenever they want. I took out a bottle of water and took a big gulp, shaking my head to try and wake myself up more.
I sniffed myself; having not showered for days, there was a bit of a sour smell. With a bitter smile, I took out two pieces of clothing and walked into the bathroom to turn on the faucet for a shower. Just as I was enjoying my shower, a sudden thought struck me: since this house is suspended in mid-air, how is wastewater handled?
I immediately recalled an eco-friendly public toilet concept I saw online: it works on a principle where water used for flushing toilets and washing hands all converges in one place, gets filtered and disinfected before being sent back to the Water Tank for continued use in washing hands and flushing toilets—this cycle repeats...
Thinking of this made my scalp tingle with discomfort; suddenly I felt itchy all over. Damn it! The water I'm showering with couldn't possibly be leftover toilet water from the previous landlord!
Suddenly feeling nauseous, I quickly turned off the showerhead, wiped my head with a towel a few times, and sniffed it. Although there was no unusual smell, I still felt uncomfortable all over. I took out a few bottles of water from the Mustard Seed Pendant to rinse my head, dried myself off, put on my clothes, and opened the door to step into the entrance garden. I leaned over the railing to look down at the bottom of the house.
Fortunately, in the light of the streetlamp, I saw that one drainpipe led directly to the base of the tree branches, while another pipe was drawn in from the side of the branches.
Knowing that I wasn't covered in recycled water instantly lifted my spirits. I stood up and sniffed my arm again, realizing there was no odor at all, and the discomfort had vanished.
Although there was no sunlight outside now, the streetlight cast a hazy glow over the entire space. The room hanging on the giant tree still had half its lights on; they were probably engrossed in watching Adult Film. When I switched channels earlier, I noticed several adult channels playing mixed-gender wrestling matches.
Just as I was about to turn back to my room, I sensed something was off, as if someone were standing closely behind me.
I suddenly turned around and thought I saw a shadow out of the corner of my eye—like a ghost it flashed by so quickly that I couldn't even be sure it was a person.
I spun around again but could only catch a faint glimpse of a shadow.
After turning around three more times, I let out a bitter laugh and murmured to myself, "It's just an illusion; it must be an illusion!"
With my agility, I could turn faster than any coach on The Voice of China; how could I not see anyone behind me? The only explanation was that I was too exhausted and hallucinating.
I hated illusions.
Suddenly, a light laugh came from behind me.
The laughter was brief and soft, but I was sure I hadn't misheard—someone was indeed behind me.
In an instant, my scalp tingled, every pore tightened, and goosebumps rose. I turned around quickly again but could only see a faint shadow flash past once more.
"Who are you?" I asked angrily.
"Shh, don't be so loud!" A thin voice came from behind me, sharp and high-pitched, making it hard for me to tell whether it was male or female.
"Who exactly are you?" I raised my voice slightly.
"Guess!" the voice replied with a laugh.
In my fury, I spun around three times like a top, thinking that I might catch a glimpse of something. To my dismay, it was completely futile; apart from a faint shadow, I still couldn't see anything.
Is this person even human or a ghost?
"You can't see me!" the voice chuckled softly.
"What if I do see you?" Suddenly, an idea struck me.
"Then I'll give you a surprise!" the voice laughed and quickly added, "But you can't use a mirror; that doesn't count!"
"Right, using a mirror doesn't make you a real man!" I chuckled and lay back on the floor. This way, I finally saw the true form of the shadow—a tall, skinny old man with a goatee.
"Haha, you're really clever!" The goateed man paused for a moment before stroking his beard and smiling.
As I stood up, I noticed that although this old man was thin, he wasn't short; he looked like a bamboo pole. I wondered if his impressive agility in kung fu had anything to do with his physique. While my mind was racing with thoughts, I asked aloud, "Alright, now can you tell me who you are?"
"I'm the one delivering your late-night snack. Do you believe me?" the goateed man said with a grin.
I scanned him suspiciously from head to toe. "Brother, I can't see anywhere on you that could fit a lunchbox!"
Goatee laughed and pulled out a sausage from his pocket. "From Shuanghui, no lean meat powder!"
"Are you sure you're representing your Dominion Villa?"
"No, this is my personal collection!"
"Damn, you're really poor!"
"Can you let me in? It's not polite to talk at the door."
I eyed Goatee sideways and invited him into the room, closing the door behind us. I found that he had already unceremoniously plopped down on the sofa and casually beckoned me, "Sit, make yourself at home, just like in your own house!"
Damn, that should be my line.
"What should I call you? What brings you here in the middle of the night?" I asked as I took a seat.
"Just call me Yangli Daxian!" Goatee said with a grin.
