Zhong Kui's Diary
With a clang, the iron door outside was opened by Aqua.
"Let's go, we've taken the first step towards escaping!" Aqua pulled open the iron door and proudly nodded at me, signaling me to go first.
I took two steps outside the door when suddenly I remembered something. Among the many probing individuals from last night, there was a well-endowed woman who seemed to hint before leaving that we shouldn't attempt to escape. Could she have been referring to this?
Thinking of this, I suddenly became alert. Aqua's expressions had been overly rich throughout, and there were too many illogical aspects. The biggest flaw was that which prison doesn't have surveillance cameras? How could Aqua kill Brother Qian so brazenly without being detected by video monitoring?
I looked around and saw spherical cameras in all four corners of the living room. Seeing this confirmed my suspicion that this was merely a test. However, the cost of this test was quite high; at least I could be sure that the Brawny Man, Brother Qian, was undoubtedly dead.
Noticing that I had stopped at the doorway, Aqua looked at me in confusion. "Come on. Why aren't you moving?"
"I'm not going out. If you're going to escape, you can go alone," I replied with a grin.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Aqua narrowed his eyes and reached for his gun at his waist.
At that moment, I was right next to him, always on guard. How could I let him get his gun? With lightning speed, I snatched the gun from him, smiling as I opened the revolver and dumped all the bullets onto the ground.
Seeing this, Aqua raised his eyebrows and was about to attack me. I acted faster than him and landed a punch that knocked him to the ground; in terms of martial arts, Aqua really wasn't much of a challenge.
"What do you mean by this?" Aqua shouted angrily as he got back up.
"I mean nothing; I've suddenly changed my mind. I'm going to serve my time!" I replied with a smile.
"You're crazy! You don't know how to seize such a good opportunity and instead want to serve your time?" Aqua's expression was bizarre, as if he wanted to laugh but also wanted to cry.
"It's strange; I've already helped you open the iron door. You can just leave without dragging me along!" Looking up, I noticed the red light on the camera flashing, indicating someone was adjusting it. More excited than ever, I shouted, "Ever since I joined Dominion Villa, I've decided to share its fortunes and misfortunes! Ahem, Dominion Villa is my home; prosperity depends on everyone!"
"Are you really not leaving?" Aqua stared at me blankly, as if looking at a lunatic.
"Stop trying to persuade me!" I turned and walked toward my cell. "I believe the villa won't wrong me."
At the same time, I heard a clang, and then saw that one of the two cells with closed doors had its iron door wide open. Two people walked out: one was Golden Glasses Man, and the other was Tang Seng.
Tch, it was just a test. Now that the person from the HR department walked out with our department head, it meant the test was over.
Seeing Tang Seng come out of the room, Aqua's face turned pale in an instant. He turned and ran toward the door. Just as he turned around and took a step, a flash of white light appeared, and Aqua was suddenly sliced in half by this white light. Blood sprayed from his abdomen like a fountain, while his upper body was propelled forward by the white light, scattering various internal organs in the air. He flew two or three meters before falling down. Upon closer inspection, this white light turned out to be a curved flying knife.
I was completely stunned, not just because of the bloody scene but also due to the incredibility of it all.
Wasn't this a test? Wasn't Aqua one of the testers? How could he be killed just like that? What kind of situation was this?
Seeing my dumbfounded expression, Tang Seng exchanged glances with Golden Glasses Man. They walked over to me, and Tang Seng patted my shoulder. "Congratulations, Sun Wukong. You've passed your re-examination. From now on, you are part of Dominion Villa."
Golden Glasses Man also smiled and extended his hand. "Welcome to Dominion Villa. I'm Human Resources Director Song Jiang. Yes, there used to be a hero named Song Jiang in Liangshan who was known as 'Timely Rain.' I share his name."
I shook Song Jiang's hand in confusion and then turned to Tang Seng. "Um, Master Tang, aren't you going to explain?"
"This is obviously clear; do you really need an explanation?" Tang Seng looked at me in surprise.
"I do!" I nodded.
"Please don't make me doubt your intelligence."
"Feel free to doubt; I want an explanation," I stubbornly replied.
"Ha ha, let me talk to you," Song Jiang laughed and took over the conversation. "Actually, it's really simple. Since Liu Yaqi entered Dominion Villa, he has been complaining and constantly mumbling about wanting to return to the outside world. We refer to such people as unstable factors."
"And then?" I turned to look at Song Jiang.
"For every newcomer, we need to conduct a test. Sometimes we directly place these unstable factors with the test subjects. If the test subject is swayed by them, it means their determination to enter the villa isn't very strong," Song Jiang said with a smile.
"And then what?"
"That's it!" Tang Seng interjected with a smile. "If you had gone out with him just now, there would definitely be more than two corpses outside!"
Damn, Stupid Donkey Tang, are you saying you want to chop me into two pieces too? How could I dare to go with you to get the Western Scriptures? Looking at Tang Seng's gentle demeanor, I couldn't help but feel a chill in my heart.
"Alright, the trial period is over. Someone will explain the benefits of being a formal employee to you next," Song Jiang nodded at Tang Seng, and the two walked towards the door. When they reached the corpse, Tang Seng bent down and picked up the Crescent Blade.
"Hey, hey, Master Tang, General Song, you're just leaving like this? Who's going to explain things to me?" I shouted.
"Someone will explain it to you soon," Song Jiang turned back and smiled while gesturing behind me with his chin. Then he waved goodbye and left with Tang Seng.
What does that mean? I turned around to look behind me; there were three rooms. One room was where I was held, and inside was Brother Qian's corpse. The other room was where Tang Seng and Song Jiang had been hiding, which must also be empty now.
Only the last room remained with its iron door tightly shut. Could there be someone else inside?
I stepped forward and lightly knocked a few times, asking, "Is anyone there?"
A mechanical electronic synthesized female voice responded from inside: "The door is not locked; please come in."
I pushed open the door, and inside stood a Golden Robe Man in the center of the room.
The outfit worn by the Golden Robe Man is the same style as Sang Xin's, and judging by the figure, the Golden Robe Man is also a woman. The only difference is that the Golden Robe Man has a thick golden cloth covering her head, similar to a bride's red veil, completely obscuring her face.
I looked around and found that there was only her in this room. I cleared my throat and asked, "Who are you?"
"I am Wei Qu, the Recruitment Officer from the Human Resources Department. I can answer any questions that match your Level," a synthesized female voice came from beneath the golden veil. Could this woman be a robot? I quickly dismissed that thought; with just a chip placed in the throat, one could alter their voice pitch. I had often played with such tricks before, mostly for pranks.
However, my interest soon shifted to something else: "Worry? Is your name Worry?"
"It is Wei Qu, with Wei from Wei Bao. Qu refers to an ancient type of earring," she replied flatly.
"Who came up with these names? Sang Xin, Wei Qu—sadness and worry—what kind of nonsense is this?" I couldn't help but chuckle.
"The names are assigned uniformly by the department; we have no right to choose. For example, from now on, your name will be Sun Wukong. Your previous name will no longer have any relation to you. If you use your old name in the villa, you will be punished," Wei Qu continued in her calm tone.
"What kind of punishment?" I asked curiously.
"Are you sure you want to know now?" Wei Qu asked lightly.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Then try calling out your old name!" Wei Qu said.
"You are Zhong Zhengnan?"
As soon as I spoke those words, a piercing pain shot through my abdomen, as if someone had stabbed me with a dagger coated in chili sauce and was now twisting it violently inside me.
The pain was so intense that I almost instantly collapsed to the ground; I couldn't maintain my standing position under such agony. Curling up on the floor while clutching my stomach, cold sweat poured down from my forehead. This pain truly surpassed any suffering I had ever experienced; it was a deep-seated torment that struck at the very core of my being.
After a while, the pain gradually faded. I held my stomach and slowly stood up, struggling to say, "Is this the punishment?"
"Yes, how does it feel?"
"This is quite intense; I can hardly believe it!" I forced a bitter smile.
Wei Qu burst into laughter, but her voice still sounded mechanical, making the laughter somewhat strange.
"Can you stop using that voice? It sounds uncomfortable. Can you switch back to your original voice?" I straightened my back, feeling that the abdominal pain had disappeared.
"This is a rule; there's no way around it. Just bear with it. I can only talk to you normally once you confirm there are no issues," Wei Qu replied.
"What was that pain in my stomach?" I pointed to my belly.
"Do you know about the 'Divine Eagle and the Condor'?"
"I've seen it!" I nodded.
"In the book, there's a type of Love Flower. If you're poisoned by the Love Flower, just thinking of your beloved will cause excruciating pain all over your body. The pain you're experiencing is based on that principle; it's called the Heartbreaking Love Flower. As long as you reveal your name, it will take effect and make you suffer immensely." Wei Qu chuckled lightly, "Heartbreaking Love Flower, crying out for help. Only such an extreme punishment can remind you not to disclose your name. After some time, you'll gradually forget your original name."
