Zhong Kui's Diary
Since I learned that the Director of the Human Resources Department is named Song Jiang, I suspected that this department might be named after Water Margin. Sure enough, a young man named Lu Zhishen appeared before me.
With red lips and white teeth, I wondered why he would choose the name Lu Zhishen. Names like Yan Qing, Wu Song, or Hua Rong would have been just as good. If nothing else, he could have gone with Ximen Qing, who at least counts as a successful idol.
Thinking it over, it seemed this name was assigned from above. I am called Sun Wukong, and Sima Sanguang is called Zhu Bajie; we weren't given a chance to choose.
The three of us sat down in the restaurant, and a cheerful waiter approached us with a beautifully bound menu. I quickly grabbed it and said, "I'll do it!"
The person ordering is responsible for paying the bill; this is a universal truth.
Chopped Chili Fish Head, 16,999 yuan. Upon seeing the first dish, my scalp tingled. Seriously, is it really that expensive?
I braced myself and continued to look down the menu: Twice-Cooked Pork 8,888 yuan, Stir-Fried Meat 6,999 yuan, Tomato Egg Soup 1,666 yuan... The prices of these dishes flashed on the menu like they were flaunting their power, making my eyes hurt.
With the little money I had on me, I could barely afford two dishes and a soup without drinks since the cheapest drink was Erguotou at 6,888 yuan a bottle. The Erguotou in my neighborhood sells for only 5 yuan.
"What do you all want to eat?" I asked awkwardly. If worse comes to worst, I could secretly take some money from the Mustard Seed Pendant.
Lu Zhishen was not shy at all; he immediately ordered two dishes and said with a smile that they were Mimi's favorites. I glanced at the two dishes; together they cost over twenty thousand. I forced a laugh and quickly called the waiter over to add another dish and a soup—around forty thousand in total. Damn, I wonder if they charge extra for the bowls and chopsticks here.
After the waiter left, Lu Zhishen cheerfully asked, "You're Sun Wukong, right? What do you need to see Mimi for?"
I was pondering how to approach Yang Mi when Lu Zhishen's question made me even more unsure of how to respond. Just as I was stammering for words, Yang Mi suddenly spoke up: "Lu Ge, could you please go buy me a bottle of water?"
Clearly, this was meant to send him away. I felt delighted at her words while Lu Zhishen's expression changed; he lowered his head and walked away.
"Alright, what do you want to ask now? You can just go ahead," Yang Mi said calmly to me.
"Why are you reminding me?" I quickly asked.
Yang Mi looked straight at me, a hint of a smile gradually appearing in her eyes. "Mr. Sun, there is a reason for what I am doing, but I don't need to explain it to you. If you really want to know, let me put it this way: I am acting on someone else's behalf."
"Who?" I was even more surprised.
The smile in Yang Mi's eyes grew wider. "Do you think I would?"
"Then what would it take for you to?" I felt extremely frustrated.
"Perhaps you'll know after some time, or perhaps you'll never know!" The smile at the corner of Yang Mi's eyes gradually faded, returning to her previous indifferent expression. At that moment, Lu Zhishen hurried back from the bar counter.
In the end, it was not me who paid the bill, but Lu Zhishen using his card, because the restaurant staff did not accept change...
Back in my room, I felt extremely irritable, as if I had stepped into a swamp and was stuck, unable to move. Struggling would only make me sink faster; it was a dead end.
I felt restless and frustrated, wanting nothing more than to find someone to hit. This feeling was very... overwhelming.
After pacing back and forth between the living room and bedroom and smoking four or five cigarettes, I finally calmed down a bit. Shaking my head with a bitter smile, I thought that the meeting tomorrow would reveal the answers; why was I so anxious?
Thinking this way lightened my mood considerably, and I fell asleep immediately without another word.
The next morning, Sang Xin called me to inform me of the time and place for the meeting. I asked her if breakfast would be delivered today; Sang Xin huffed and hung up without saying anything.
After washing up, I walked to the cafeteria and immediately spotted Sima Sanguang. I quickly called him over to sit with me and smiled as I asked if he passed his probation period. Sima Sanguang looked terrified. "Damn, I almost got killed by those testers! Luckily, I managed to react just in time."
"I also had a close encounter with death!" I sighed.
"You must have been affected by the Heartbreaking Poison of Love too, right?" Sima Sanguang said while wolfing down noodles, mumbling, "This thing caused me pain twice, once when it called my name and once when it called yours."
"Pretty much!" I laughed.
After finishing breakfast, the two of us shared a smoke before heading to the conference room.
The conference room was right next to the hall where we attended the Welcome Dinner. Upon entering, we saw an oval Round conference table in the center, which could seat about seven or eight people. Around the round table, there were over twenty chairs against the walls, with five or six people scattered here and there.
Sima Sanguang and I found a corner and were about to sit down when a bearded man next to us said, "You two are the main players; you should sit at the center round table."
"Oh, is that so?" Sima Sanguang and I exchanged glances and got up to sit at the round table.
As more people arrived, Sha Monk and White Dragon Horse also took seats beside us. Once everyone was present, a graceful woman at the entrance made a phone call. Before long, Tang Seng walked in with a big smile on his face.
Leaders are leaders; as soon as he entered, everyone in the hall immediately stood up. The sounds of moving chairs and greetings filled the air.
"Holy Monk!"
"Eastern Land Monk!"
"Master!"
"Elder Brother Yu!"
Seeing everyone like this, I could only go along with the crowd and stood up to greet Tang Seng.
"Sit!" Tang Seng smiled and gestured for everyone to take their seats at the round table.
The elegant woman at the door pressed a switch, and with a series of clicks, the doors and windows of the conference room closed automatically, silver curtains falling down to block everything out.
"What does this mean?" I asked Sima Sanguang in surprise.
Sima Sanguang shook his head to indicate he didn't know, but Sha Monk beside us whispered, "This is a signal jammer. Our meeting level is S-Class, so we need to prevent leaks. We'll have to hand in our phones later."
Sure enough, the elegant woman pushed a shopping cart over, which had a cardboard box on it. The girl smiled and asked us to turn off our phones and place them in the box. When the cart was pushed next to me, I glanced inside and noticed that all the phones were identical. I couldn't help but laugh, "After the meeting, how will we know which phone is ours?"
Sha Monk tossed his phone into the box and said with a smile, "There's a way around that. After the meeting ends, Daughter Kingdom King will turn on each phone one by one. When she calls her number, it will show up on the caller ID, right? That way we can identify them."
This elegant woman was actually Daughter Kingdom King?
I was taken aback for a moment but then nodded and laughed, "That makes sense. Although it's a bit troublesome, it's effective. Haha."
After collecting the phones, Daughter Kingdom King sat down next to Tang Seng and took out a notebook, ready to take notes.
Tang Seng cleared his throat lightly: "Today's meeting has been long anticipated by everyone. Now that everyone is here, I won't waste time; let's begin. Sha Monk, please lead us in the opening remarks."
A round of applause followed as Sha Monk stood up to greet everyone but did not sit down. His expression was serious.
"For a long time now, imperialism has harbored ill intentions towards us. Since the Opium War, we have faced numerous humiliations through conflicts such as the Sino-French War, the First Sino-Japanese War, and the Eight-Nation Alliance invasion, culminating in eight years of the Anti-Japanese War. We all know how much humiliation our nation has endured during this period. America has been trying to undermine us both overtly and covertly; examples include the eight years of civil war and our interventions in Korea and Vietnam. Now America has become increasingly reckless, constantly creating friction and conflicts while allying with neighboring countries to suppress our development..." Sha Monk's tone grew passionate.
Sima Sanguang and I exchanged glances filled with confusion. What on earth was going on? We were here for a meeting; why was he talking about international affairs?
The Sha Monk spoke passionately for almost half an hour during the meeting, finally summarizing, "In short, to assert our dominance in China, we must project a powerful voice in all aspects. A strong voice in the economic sphere alone is not enough; we must also project a powerful voice in military matters. And we can achieve this powerful voice right now with the Rain of Swords, dominating the globe!"
With Sha Monk's resounding conclusion, the audience erupted into enthusiastic applause, and the twenty or so colleagues around me looked excited and thrilled.
I exchanged glances with Sima Sanguang and Noodles, wondering what was going on. What was this Rain of Swords all about?
Tang Seng raised his hands to calm everyone down, and once the applause subsided, he smiled and said, "Thank you to Sha Monk for the mobilization. I believe everyone is now quite clear about the Rain of Swords Plan, but we have two newcomers here, so before I announce the details of the plan, let me explain it first."
Next, Tang Seng explained the Rain of Swords Plan. After listening, we were all completely shocked by this plan; it exceeded our wildest imaginations. In fact, one could say that this plan seemed almost beyond human conception.
The plan itself was quite simple and could be summarized in a few sentences: infiltrate a certain Satellite Launch Base, install a large-scale magical array on a Satellite, and when the Satellite passes over American airspace, the array would activate. At that moment, a rain of swords would form in the air, with enormous Ice Swords measuring dozens of meters long and weighing thousands of pounds falling down.
Moreover, this magical array had an incredible function: it could immobilize everyone within the coverage area of the sword rain. This meant that when tens of thousands of massive Ice Swords fell, all anyone could do was wait for death.
The coverage area of this sword rain entirely depended on the person controlling the Control Array. As long as they wished, not only could they target America but also countries like Japan and France would be within striking range. As long as the Satellite passed overhead, they could activate the array and wreak havoc on the countries below repeatedly since the Satellite orbited around the Earth.
