Zhong Kui's Diary
Actually, the White Dragon Horse is not wrong; the water flow is not very strong. As long as you stabilize your center of gravity and walk slowly, there is no risk of being swept away by the current. However, if you walk too fast, your balance will be off, making it easy to be knocked over by the water flow, and it will be troublesome to get back up. Overall, this water flow does not pose a life-threatening danger, especially since several members of our group are Martial Arts Masters with solid foundations.
After walking for about ten minutes, according to the distance set by the White Dragon Horse, we should start heading ashore. Just at that moment, the water flow suddenly became turbulent, resembling waves crashing onto the beach, pressing against our bodies in waves.
This feeling was as if some large underwater creature was swimming towards us. Suddenly, I recalled the severed Rope; could it be that something down there actually bit through it?
Everyone sensed the anomaly and quickly released their grips, raising their flashlights to shine into the center of the river. The moment we shone the light, our scalps tingled; ten meters away was a gigantic Monster Fish staring fiercely at our group. This fish was enormous, with a Serpent-Headed Fish-Body and six legs on its abdomen. Its entire body was covered in black scales, and its snake-like head was as large as a Basin, with an eye the size of a chicken egg on its forehead.
This Monster Fish was none other than the Cyclops Fish that I had fought desperately against with Fatty in the Underground of Yangshan river.
Panic ensued among everyone; to encounter such a Monster Fish in this underground river, especially one that was glaring at us so ferociously, was enough to cause alarm.
The Cyclops Fish swayed its body from side to side and suddenly opened its mouth wide, revealing two rows of sharp teeth inside as it charged directly at me.
What the hell? Do I look easy to bully? Why is it coming straight for me? If you have guts, go bite Tang Seng next to me!
Cursing aside, I focused entirely on the situation, bending my knees slightly and preparing for a fierce battle.
If we were on the surface of the water, I would have some confidence in exchanging blows with it. The first time I faced such a creature, I hadn’t even merged with Devouring Soul energy yet and could barely hold my ground for a few rounds. Now that my internal energy has merged, I should be able to hold my own against it without much trouble.
However, we are currently underwater. With an oxygen tank on my back and lead weights attached to my diving suit belt for easier diving, these heavy items greatly hinder my agility. The Cyclops Fish doesn’t have this problem—after all, have you ever heard of the saying "like a fish in water"?
Ten meters, five meters, three meters, two meters, one meter. In almost an instant, the Cyclops Fish was right in front of me.
A flash of yellow light passed before my eyes; there was no time to think about what that yellow light was. I sidestepped to avoid the Monster Fish's massive mouth and raised my knee to strike directly at its abdomen.
The Cyclops Fish completely ignored my knee strike and charged straight at me. With a dull thud, my knee throbbed with pain as if I had collided with a steel plate, leaving me utterly astonished. The last time I encountered this type of Monster Fish at Yang Mountain, its belly was not nearly this hard. Could it be that the Monster Fish in this area have mutated?
Upon closer inspection, the Monster Fish was knocked back about a meter by my knee and then fell straight to the bottom of the water, motionless, as if it were already dead.
I kicked the Monster Fish with my foot and found it completely stiff. What was going on? Even if my kick had immense power, there was no way I could have turned this Monster Fish into fish jerky. Looking to the side, I saw Hua Wuqiu nodding at me, holding a large wooden sword in her right hand, which surprisingly emitted a faint yellow glow.
It suddenly dawned on me that I had a Master-Level Taoist expert by my side. Her abilities were even superior to Kong Xuan and Xiao Qingcheng. The flash of yellow light earlier must have been Hua Wuqiu casting some spell on the Monster Fish, causing it to become stiff and die instantly.
It's great to know someone who can cast spells.
The events unfolded in a flash; from the moment the Monster Fish attacked me to Hua Wuqiu's intervention, only a few seconds had passed. By the time Sima Sanguang and Tang Seng arrived, the Monster Fish was already lifeless. Sima Sanguang seemed quite angry as he pulled out a dagger and repeatedly stabbed at the Monster Fish.
No! I shouted, but since I was underwater, my voice didn't carry; instead, I ended up gulping down a mouthful of water, which made my nasal passages burn painfully.
I didn't dwell on that pain but stared in shock at the Monster Fish's body. With Sima Sanguang's continuous stabbing, wisps of blood mist began to spread through the water.
Damn, these Monster Fish are extremely sensitive to blood and are very ferocious. I had witnessed that in the Underground of Yangshan. If several hundred of these Monster Fish showed up, how would Hua Wuqiu handle it?
I quickly gestured for everyone to leave urgently. The White Dragon Horse seemed to understand the gravity of the situation as it turned and moved forward without caring about the turbulent waters. The seven of us held hands and hurried along.
Fortunately, among our group were several individuals skilled in Kung Fu; Sima Sanguang and White Dragon Horse were both as capable as I was, while Tang Seng's skills were exceptional. Even though we quickened our pace, we were not swept away by the current.
After walking about fifty meters, White Dragon Horse signaled us to look up, indicating that we had reached our destination and should start floating upwards.
At that moment, I felt the pressure of the water flow suddenly intensify. Without thinking twice, I knew that more Cyclops Fish were approaching. When I shone my flashlight behind me, I could vaguely see something rapidly closing in from a distance.
Everyone understood what was behind us, desperately floating upwards. As I surfaced, I heard a sudden splash behind me. Turning around, I saw the water in the middle of the river churning violently, like boiling water, splashing everywhere. The first Monster Fish broke the surface, its snake-like head with a single eye scanning the surroundings before it charged towards us, followed closely by a second and a third.
At that moment, Hua Wuqiu had just climbed ashore, while Tang Seng and I were still in the water. I was one meter away from the bank, and Tang Seng was three meters away.
"Get up here!" Sima Sanguang, already on the shore, reached out his hand to me. I quickly surged forward and grabbed his wrist. With a grunt, Sima Sanguang lifted me up into the air and tossed me back; I adjusted my position mid-air and landed steadily.
Looking back at the river, Tang Seng was still two meters from the bank, while the first Monster Fish had already lunged towards him, opening its mouth to bite at his leg.
"Quick!" Hua Wuqiu shouted lightly. A beam of yellow light shot out from his large wooden sword, striking the Cyclops Fish's single eye directly.
Hit by the yellow light, the Cyclops Fish instantly turned blue as if it had been petrified. Its mouth remained open as it crashed into Tang Seng's leg. With his remarkable skills, Tang Seng took advantage of this moment to leap off the Monster Fish and landed directly on the shore.
By the time the group of Cyclops Fish arrived, we had already retreated a safe distance from the bank. The Cyclops Fish thrashed around in the water for over ten minutes before finally dispersing.
"Damn!" White Dragon Horse cursed with a pale face. "I came here seventeen times before and somehow managed to come back alive."
"On the rooftop!" Sha Monk removed his breathing apparatus, looking terrified. "I followed you six times and also survived."
Tang Seng glared at White Dragon Horse with a dark expression; if looks could kill, White Dragon Horse would have died dozens of times by now.
I chuckled and said, "These Monster Fish might be migratory predators; after all, they are carnivorous. If they stay in one place for too long, they would starve! It's likely that this group of Monster Fish has just recently migrated here."
Hearing this made some sense to everyone. Since we had already made it out, there was no need to worry for now. As for going back the same way—whoever wanted to go could go; even if it meant fighting close-quarters with others outside, I wouldn’t return to cross this body of water again.
In the end, Tang Seng did not hold White Dragon Horse accountable and coldly said, "Everyone take a break; we will be entering the base soon."
The group unloaded their equipment, including the Oxygen Tank, and sat down on the ground, looking around. This was also a cave, about the same size as my living room. One wall had a simple staircase, and above it was an outlet for a sewage pipe; it was likely that the restroom was above.
The White Dragon Horse found several pairs of shoes and handed them to us. In fact, this fellow was quite attentive; there was a whole cabinet full of spare shoes here, in various sizes for both men and women. The appearance of the Cyclops Fish in this stretch of water was truly just an accident.
After resting for a while, everyone stood up, stretched their limbs a bit, and prepared to enter the base.
The White Dragon Horse climbed up the stairs first, listened for a moment, then reached up and knocked around for a while. Surprisingly, he removed a large piece of Cement Floor that had a squat toilet attached to it, revealing a Big Hole.
At the same time, a beam of light shone down, illuminating the White Dragon Horse's face. From my angle, I vaguely saw a black line at his hairline, resembling the seam of a wig worn by characters in movies. It suddenly occurred to me that when the White Dragon Horse transformed into the Six God Monk, he had been bald; what he was wearing on his head now was indeed a wig.
The Sha Monk took the piece of cement and gently placed it on the ground. The White Dragon Horse then climbed directly up the stairs. After a while, a hand reached out from the Big Hole and made a gesture indicating that it was safe above. One by one, everyone began to climb up.
Once everyone was up, all seven stood in front of the sinks in the women's restroom. Fortunately, the Western Satellite Launch Base was quite wealthy; even this remote women's restroom had three squat toilets and plenty of space, making it feel spacious rather than cramped.
The White Dragon Horse took a package out from the Water Tank in the restroom and handed it to the Sha Monk, then whispered, "Alright, my task is complete."
"Okay, it's your turn," Tang Seng nodded at Sha Monk with a slight lift of his chin.
