Zhong Kui's Diary
On my second day at work, I specifically went to the corner of the office hall to take a look at the shrine.
This shrine is a standing shrine, over a person's height and about two feet wide. It is entirely painted deep red and stands against the wall. It is divided into three levels: the bottom level is a cabinet, the middle has drawers, all used for placing incense and other miscellaneous items, while the top level displays a gilded Guanyu, standing majestically with a sword. In front of Guanyu are three plates containing fruits like apples and bananas, and in the center is a purple gold incense burner with several sticks of incense already inserted, indicating that someone has offered incense.
I specifically noted the direction of the sword's blade; at this moment, the blade of the Qinglong Yanyue Dao was facing outward, meaning there was no abnormality in its direction. I glanced around and did not find any mechanisms.
Originally, I thought someone might control the direction of the Qinglong Yanyue Dao through a mechanism, but this possibility seemed unlikely. I reached out with my left hand to touch the blade and poked at the hilt. Just as Chen Shan mentioned, the hilt seemed to be stuck and did not budge at all.
Tsk tsk, if it’s stuck this tightly, if Guanyu could turn the sword’s direction, that would truly be supernatural.
While pondering in front of the shrine, a slender young man approached me. He had an intense gaze and exuded an explosive energy. Strangely enough, I felt he looked familiar, yet I could also confirm that I had never seen him before. This contradictory feeling made me quite uncomfortable.
The young man nodded at me: “Are you here to offer incense?”
I shook my head: “No.”
He responded with an “oh”: “Then could you step aside? I want to offer incense!”
I smiled and nodded, thinking there was nothing much to see anymore, so I turned to head back to my office.
Just a few steps later, I heard a gasp behind me, followed by the young man calling out: “Hey, Zhong Zhengnan, wait a moment!”
I turned around in surprise and stared at him suspiciously: “Do you know me?”
The young man replied affirmatively but seemed to realize his rudeness. He cleared his throat lightly: “I’m Xie Weijian, the Computer Department Director. I have to record information for every new employee in the company, so I know you.”
No wonder he could call my name. I chuckled: “Oh, Director Xie, what do you need from me?”
“Did you just touch the statue?” Xie Weijian gestured towards the shrine.
“No.” Then I scratched my head and awkwardly laughed: “Actually, it’s not that I didn’t; I touched Guanyu’s Qinglong Yanyue Dao.”
"No wonder, no wonder, you almost scared me to death!" Xie Weijian seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
"What happened?" I asked in surprise.
"What? Don't you know? You turned Guanyu's Qinglong Yanyue Dao with the blade facing inward. If the Director Ren Feiyu from the business department sees this, he will definitely scold you," Xie Weijian pointed to the statue inside the shrine.
What? I was taken aback and focused my gaze. Sure enough, Guanyu's Qinglong Yanyue Dao was indeed blade facing inward. I just touched the Qinglong Yanyue Dao; how did it end up like this?
I rushed directly to the shrine, grabbed Guanyu's Qinglong Yanyue Dao, and shook it. Just like before, it remained completely still, as if it were welded in place.
Given how firmly the Qinglong Yanyue Dao was secured, how could a gentle touch have turned it? That was clearly impossible. Could it be that I had been seeing things from the start? Was the blade already facing inward at that time?
No, that couldn't be. The statue of Guanyu stands with the sword in his right hand, meaning when the statue faces me, Guanyu's sword-holding right hand is on my left side. I am certain that I touched the blade with my left hand back then; there was no mistake—the blade was indeed facing outward at that moment.
Damn, what on earth is going on?
Seeing me speechless, Xie Weijian nudged me and asked, "Zheng Nan, what's wrong?"
I forced a smile and said, "Xie Zong, I didn't turn my Qinglong Yanyue Dao like this; do you believe me?"
Xie Zong chuckled, "I believe you because this isn't the first time something like this has happened."
Damn, you know this isn't the first time, yet you just yelled at me.
Scratching my head, unsure of what else to say, I could only chat a bit more with Xie Weijian before returning to my office.
I opened my computer and logged into QQ. Just as I was about to open a webpage, my QQ avatar flickered with a new message. Clicking on it revealed Zhu Qi.
"Zheng Nan, good morning."
"You too."
"Have you eaten?" "Have you eaten." "Did you go to the shrine just now?" "Yeah." "Haha, were you scared?" Zhu Qi sent me a skull emoji by the way. . "It's okay." A trace of doubt emerged in my heart. How could this Zhu Qi be so well-informed? Moreover, this is a supernatural incident. Maybe Demon is causing trouble. Why are you so nervous? He actually laughed and joked with me. "You must be wondering how I knew it so quickly. That's because the colleague next to the shrine has a good relationship with me and told me immediately on QQ!" "Aren't you afraid of me? This is a supernatural event!" "What are you afraid of? Even if there is a ghost, this ghost is a good ghost and will not bully us." Zhu Qi curled his lips. This was not a QQ expression. Because she and I were both sitting against the wall, I turned my head and looked over, and Zhu Qi happened to be looking at me too. "Then I'm not afraid, you won't bully me anyway!" "Not necessarily, we are all old employees, you are a newcomer." Zhu Qi stuck out his tongue at me, this time it was a qq emoticon. "By the way, I'll pay you back later!" "That's no hurry. Well, no more, let's get to work." Immediately afterwards, Liao Yongqi sent me an rd document, which was for a May Day event in a shopping mall in the northwest. For the Labor Day promotion, the activity content and text are all in rd. I was asked to think of an A4 picture first, and she also thought of one. After finishing it, we showed it to Ms. Xiao and asked Ms. Xiao to pick it out. A picture is created, and then extended materials are made, such as K-boards, display racks, hanging flags, floor stickers, etc. Suddenly my head was spinning. I came to be Graphic Designer just for a temporary guest appearance, and you sent me a task before I even got warmed up. It’s a bad thing to say, and I haven’t even opened the software yet. What else can be done? He took out his mobile phone and quietly sent a message to Fatty: "Where is it?"
There was no response from Fatty for a while, and then I remembered that it was only around 9 o'clock in the morning. It was impossible for Fatty to get up at this time, so I had to send a message to Guo'er. After a while, Guo 'er replied: "What's the matter?" "Contact me a Graphic Designer and ask him to add me on QQ." "Are you the kind of person who takes on private work?" "Well, hurry up!" "That's impossible, I haven’t even thought about taking on private work as a designer.” “Forget it, I’ll be self-reliant.” I immediately looked for professional materials and downloaded two of last year’s Labor Day Promotion Poster. The format is psd. I opened the material with phshp software and started to modify it with gritted teeth. What is the size of a4? I don’t know, I can only use Baidu. Fangzheng ZhenheiWhat font is this? Where is it? I don’t know, I can only use Baidu. What does this soft light mode mean? I don’t know, I can only use Baidu. Not sure, Baidu! Baidu... It wasn't until the end of work that I hurriedly changed a promotion screen. My colleagues got up to leave work one by one. I scratched my scalp and said with a smile: "I will work overtime today to familiarize myself with the company's past practices." Promotional style, by the way, I'll finish this promotional image." Ms. Xiao's eyes flashed with relief, and she said with a smile: "The promotional image is not urgent, I can do it tomorrow." "I'd better work overtime. !" I said with a smile, my tone full of persistence.
I have to figure out what's going on with the supernatural events in this company quickly; otherwise, I'll really have to spend money hiring a designer. I heard from Chen Shan that the sound of a lighter and the fax machine turning on happened while working late at night, so I’ll try working late tonight.
"Alright, but don't stay too late. The security guard will come to lock the main door at one," Xiao Lin reminded me before turning to leave.
Once most people had left, I ordered takeout and finished my meal quickly. I was about to stroll around the lobby when I noticed there were still a dozen colleagues working overtime outside, so I had to retreat back into the office. After all, my excuse for staying was to work late; walking around the lobby after eating wouldn't count as working overtime.
After watching for a while, I peeked out the door and then returned inside until after ten o'clock at night when the last of my colleagues finally left. Tsk tsk, the employees of this company acquired by Tang Zian are quite dedicated; knowing that the company is haunted, there are still so many willing to work overtime.
During this time, Fatty helped me contact a designer named Shen and we agreed on a price. I would hire him for a month—not in the sense of keeping him… I mean he would work with me part-time. He would need to be online while I was at work. The benefit of this arrangement is that if Xiao Lin asks me for something, I can just tell him directly via QQ. Once Shen finishes the design, he can send it over for Xiao Lin to review. In a sense, Xiao Lin is the client, I'm the customer service AE, and Shen is the real designer.
Having settled this, I felt much better and got up to head outside. The lights in the lobby had already been turned off, leaving only our Marketing Department's office lit up. The emptiness gave off a rather eerie vibe.
I couldn't enter the finance room since it was locked, so I decided to check out the restroom first. Due to my habit of using the restroom every morning, surprisingly, I hadn’t been to the company's restroom yet.
Entering the restroom, there were two stalls with their doors wide open and no one inside. Leaning against the wall with a cigarette in my mouth, I clicked my lighter a few times while frowning and said loudly, "Ah, the lighter is out of gas; what am I going to do now?"
"Do you really need to speak so pretentiously?" A voice echoed in front of me, but there was nothing there except for a mirror.
