Zhong Kui's Diary
When I heard that A-Jian had arrived at Rui Company, my heart skipped a beat. Finally, we were getting to the main topic, so I perked up and listened intently.
"Ghost Brother, what I'm about to tell you may sound unbelievable, but I assure you, it's all true," A-Jian said earnestly as he looked at me.
"Okay," I replied with a smile, casually pulling out a pack of cigarettes and offering him one.
After lighting the cigarette and taking a deep drag, A-Jian spoke in a low voice: "The original boss of this company is Sha Zhiyuan, which you probably already know. To be honest, in all my years of wandering outside, I've never met such a kind and friendly boss. He treats every employee like family. I really can't imagine how he does it. He is a compassionate person, a great man—I'm not exaggerating."
I was somewhat surprised by A-Jian's words. I wasn't familiar with the business scene in Star City; the first time I heard about Sha Zhiyuan was during a departmental gathering when Chen Shan mentioned him. At that time, it was just passing information. The second time was during a late-night snack when I heard about Lingfeng and Ye Litong; my impression of Sha Zhiyuan was extremely negative since his daughter had starved to death and he didn't even step forward. How cold-blooded could one be?
Even though I later learned that everything was orchestrated by someone behind the scenes and that both Sha Zhiyuan and Yeh Rong were framed by this mysterious person, my impression of him never improved. Hearing A-Jian describe Sha Zhiyuan as compassionate and even great left me astonished.
"Uh, great?" I asked skeptically.
"Yes, great," A-Jian affirmed with a nod. Seeing my doubtful expression, he became somewhat excited: "Do you know how many underprivileged children he currently supports? One hundred forty-seven. Yes, this is what the company's financial director told me privately; otherwise, I wouldn't have known at all. Also, every employee's parents receive gifts from him during holidays or birthdays—do you know how many companies he has under him? There are about ten companies like Rui. Each company has at least a hundred employees. Even if each gift costs around one hundred dollars, that's quite an expense."
"Yes, he truly is a great man... but let's get back to the USB drive issue," I quickly raised my hand to stop A-Jian from continuing on about Sha Zhiyuan's charitable deeds. While it was positive energy, I wanted to know more about the haunting in the company.
"It's precisely because of the USB drive incident that I wanted to talk about Boss Sha's character," A-Jian said as he took another deep drag from his cigarette, dense smoke billowing from his nose. "To put it simply, Boss Sha could easily become the richest person in Star City, but he isn't because he doesn't invest that money into expanding the company; instead, he gives back to society. His purpose in making money is to help others live better lives. Have you ever met someone like that? I'm telling you, Boss Sha is that kind of person."
"Yes!" I nodded.
"And because of this, each of us treats the company as our own. Plus, we all hold shares in this company, so everyone is dedicated to their work. Would you want such a company to be acquired by someone else?" A-Jian asked me in return.
"No," I shook my head, feeling as if something was beginning to take root in my mind; it seemed like I understood some things now.
"Yes, we also don't want to change the Boss. We once thought about pooling our resources to acquire Rui Company, but with our financial strength, we are not enough to compete against the Ren Family and the Zhu Family..."
"What? The Ren Family and the Zhu Family? You mean, the ones acquiring Sha Zhiyuan's company are Ren Zhiming and Zhu Liancheng?" I was greatly surprised.
"That's right. Otherwise, how would Ren Feiyu and Zhu Qi be in the company?" A-Jian snorted disdainfully and continued, "Ren Zhiming and Zhu Liancheng believe that Boss Sha's management is detrimental to their companies. People naturally compare; for companies of similar scale, here you only have salaries and basic benefits, while their companies not only offer that but also care for parents, concern for employees, and even share company stocks with employees. When compared like this, it's clear who is better, so it's no wonder that talent leaves. Therefore, they decided to join forces to bring down Boss Sha."
"And then?" I frowned.
"Since Boss Sha focused most of his energy on the employees, he neglected to manage upper-level relationships. Once the Ren and Zhu families exerted pressure, Boss Sha couldn't cope at all and was forced to sell off parts of the company. Even so, the conditions set by Boss Sha for selling were that the new Boss could not fire us old employees and refused to sell to Ren Zhiming or Zhu Liancheng." A-Jian chuckled bitterly, "We saw how much Boss Sha cared for us before leaving, so we naturally felt grateful. Everyone discussed it together; since we can't compete financially, shouldn't we resort to some tricks?"
With A-Jian's words, I understood the connection behind it all; it turned out this was just a form of protest from Sha Zhiyuan's old subordinates. I smiled slightly and said, "A-Jian, no offense intended, but what significance does this have? Do you really think Tang Zian will return the company to Sha Zhiyuan because of some ghostly antics?"
A-Jian fell silent for a moment: "Ghost Brother, we are just workers; we can only use this method to support Boss Sha."
I shook my head: "What if Tang Zian sells the company to Ren Zhiming or Zhu Liancheng?"
"Isn't there a contract?" A-Jian said anxiously.
"Please, not selling to Ren Zhiming and others was when Sha Zhiyuan was the Boss. But now the company belongs to Tang Zian; he can sell it to whoever he wants." I sneered: "At that point, one word from Ren Zhiming or others could get you all kicked out. You know they aren't after Sha Zhiyuan's company; they just don't want his management style to take root in Star City."
A-Jian fell silent again and after a while murmured: "We really want to help Boss Sha."
I lightly coughed to change the subject: "Why don't you tell me how you all plan on creating these ghostly happenings? Actually, I'm more curious about who hit me that night."
Hearing this, A-Jian chuckled: "Guanyu was smashed by you too; you've seen the mechanism. That thing can be operated with a remote control; there's not much technical skill involved. As for the sound in the bathroom..."
"Is it the Mini Recorder?" I couldn't help but show off my expertise.
"Uh, yes," A-Jian said with a smile as he extinguished his cigarette. "As for the Photocopier, I checked your USB drive, and the software inside is an IP tracking program. I assume you have a rough idea of what's going on. That's right; I've been operating everything. I'm a computer expert, no doubt about that."
"Well, I agree with that," I nodded with a smile. "But I want to know who hit me."
"Xiao Lin, your Director, Xiao Lin," A-Jian chuckled.
"Her?" I couldn't believe that Xiao Lin could be so fierce with a wooden stick.
"Actually, in terms of playing tricks, all the old employees participated except for a few newcomers. You know that Ren Feiyu and Zhu Qi are spies placed here by Ren Zhu, so we've been quite cautious. That said, not everyone knows all the ins and outs; we have a core circle. Including you, only seventeen people know the whole story. Xiao Lin is the planner of this event; she specializes in marketing and has her own set of skills," A-Jian shook his head and laughed. "Honestly, I was surprised when she hit you that night."
"Who are the other sixteen people?"
"The General Manager's Assistant Tian Qingrong, Marketing Director Xiao Lin, Financial Director Tian Yong, Director of Administration and Human Resources Wu Xiaohua, Design Department Director Jiang Qiuhong, and me as the Computer Department Director," A-Jian paused before continuing. "We have six people on our side, and there are another ten from Mobile Chain Store and Carrefour Supermarket's upper management."
"People from Mobile Chain Store are involved too?" I asked in surprise.
"Of course! Do you remember the recent uproar about the Orange 4S having no signal? Not sure if you heard about it?" A-Jian said with a mysterious smile.
"I certainly know about it; my phone was an Orange 4S before," I replied unhappily. "So this no-signal issue was also caused by you guys?"
A-Jian was taken aback for a moment before laughing, "Well then, I'm truly sorry. We just wanted to give the new Boss a warning."
"At that time, Tang Zian hadn't acquired Mobile Store yet, right?" I frowned.
"Yes, there was indeed no acquisition, but negotiations are ongoing. We intended to use this large-scale quality incident to deter his acquisition intentions, but unexpectedly, problems arose during the operation."
"What kind of problems?"
"We originally wanted to control the phone signal to be intermittent. But somehow, a fault occurred in the process, and the signal suddenly completely cut off and became uncontrollable. Because of this, they used it as an excuse to drastically lower prices, which caused trouble for Boss Sha, resulting in at least several million less in sales," A-Jian said with a bitter smile.
"What methods did you use to achieve this?" I asked casually.
"It was simple. There was already a backdoor in the Orange Phone specifically designed to monitor our citizens. We utilized this backdoor to create a virus and then sent messages to 4S customers under the guise of a mobile phone specialty store, claiming it was after-sales service. If they replied, they would receive 10 yuan in phone credit. As long as they replied, the virus would be embedded in their phones, and then we set a time for it to activate," A-Jian said, looking pleased; it seemed he had personally handled this virus.
I frowned and thought for a moment; I seemed to have received such a message before, and I had indeed replied casually at that time. I also received a notification that 10 yuan had been credited to my account. Tsk tsk, one should not be greedy for small gains.
"Besides Mobile Chain Store, Carrefour Supermarket, and Rui Company, are there any other companies selling it?" I continued to ask.
"Yes, Tian Yong and three other companies are currently in negotiations, but I don't know which three specifically. Only Tian Yong and Xiao Lin are aware of this since they are the veterans of the company," A-Jian shook his head.
"Alright, I'll go ask Tian Yong." I stood up and prepared to leave.
"Ghost Brother," A-Jian quickly stood up: "Actually, we're not bad people."
