Zhong Kui's Diary
Sky Building Rooftop?
I was somewhat taken aback when I heard this. The Sky Building is not owned by any conglomerate in Star City, but rather it is a five-star office building constructed by a certain Huang Family Tycoon. The entire building is located in the most bustling Qinghu District, and just the price of acquiring that land was a staggering amount, not to mention the building has 88 floors, with construction and decoration standards strictly adhering to international 5A standards, which incurs a significant expenditure.
Some might say that real estate is all about loans; no matter how much money is spent, it's the bank's money. A successful real estate businessman knows how to manage loans and can even sell pre-construction units to alleviate financial pressure. Indeed, this principle applies to all real estate developers, but it does not apply to Huang Lao because Huang Lao did not borrow a single cent from the bank nor sold any pre-construction units. He built this landmark building in Star City entirely with his own funds, and after completion, he chose to rent it out instead of selling it. What kind of wealth must one possess to undertake such a massive project?
If we were to calculate, Huang Lao could stand shoulder to shoulder with people like Sha Zhiyuan based solely on this building. In terms of cash alone, Huang Lao far surpasses Zhu Liancheng, Ren Zhiming, and Sha Zhiyuan. After all, being able to construct such a landmark without relying on loans is something only the Jin Family could achieve in Star City.
These details were shared with me by Guo'er. During her free time, she would often visit the home of Jin Zhenzhong, who is quite fond of her and tends to share everything with her. Thus, it was not surprising that Guo'er knew about this matter.
However, these were not the reasons for my astonishment. What truly shocked me was the rooftop of the Sky Building, as mentioned by the Cursed God. If we disregard the rooftop, the architectural style of the Sky Building is quite ordinary, resembling traditional designs—a simple rectangular structure without any standout features. The only thing that defies expectations is its rooftop.
The Sky Building has 88 floors, and above those floors is a platform where things like central air conditioning's Cooling Tower are located. In the center of this platform stands a massive spearhead-shaped structure known as the Spearhead. The diameter of this Spearhead is about ten meters, and its height reaches fifty meters—essentially making it taller than ten stories.
What’s strange is that the entire Spearhead is made of high-grade steel and has no openings, which feels exceptionally eerie. Moreover, Huang Lao painted the Spearhead blood-red; from a distance, the entire Sky Building resembles a blood-stained spear. The municipal department had no way to intervene because at that time, Huang Lao explained that his design was akin to a steel pen dipped in red ink. If viewed through this lens, it does explain why it has such an effect.
Clearly, when referring to the rooftop of the Sky Building, the Cursed God was not talking about the 88th-floor platform but rather this spearhead-shaped structure. Because even Huang Lao himself joked that the Sky Building actually has eighty-nine floors; it's just that the topmost layer is merely a decorative piece—the entire exterior of the Spearhead is welded shut, preventing anyone from entering.
When I heard that both the Cursed God and the Fortune God were on top of the Sky Building, my first thought was that the Cursed God was deceiving me. It was one thing for you to be in Star City, but how could you be inside the welded-shut Spearhead? Isn’t that absurd? The building towers hundreds of meters high; what would the Fortune God be doing up there? Learning how to fly like King Kong?
Then I reconsidered; perhaps standing at such heights allows the Fortune God to better observe Fatty's movements. Whether or not he was inside the Spearhead was not really important.
With that thought in mind, I decided not to dwell on what the Cursed God said anymore and called for Fatty, turning to leave.
After taking the elevator back to ground level and restoring everything back to normal, I didn’t pay much attention to the consciousness of the Cursed God inside the cave. After all, he was just a wisp of consciousness and posed no real threat to me. If I unleashed my ultimate move ‘Five Thunder Strikes’, I could easily obliterate him into dust—not to mention using something like ‘Thunderous Strike’, which is a grandmaster-level technique. At his level, even Kong Xuan or Xiao Qingcheng could handle him effortlessly.
After cleaning up the traces we left behind and checking the time, it was already past four in the afternoon. The two of us hurried down the mountain, and around eight o'clock, we got into the off-road vehicle.
We drove a few hundred meters forward and found a spacious spot to turn around. The mountain road was barely wide enough for two vehicles, and since my driving skills were self-taught, I really didn't dare to turn around without at least five or six meters of space on this rugged road.
By the time we returned to Star City, it was already eleven at night. We drove straight to the night snack stall where Fatty had already contacted Kong Xuan and the others. After parking the car, only Kong Xuan and Qingcheng were at the stall; since this matter involved Demon, the others couldn't be of much help.
After sitting down, I recounted what had happened. Qingcheng frowned and said, "I can't shake the feeling that this Cursed God is a bit of a fraud."
"Why do you say that?" I asked while biting into a Chicken Wing. I hadn't eaten anything substantial on the way except for a few cakes, but seeing the Honey-glazed Chicken Wings roasted to a golden brown immediately whetted my appetite, and I dug in.
"Earlier, Ji Wuyuan mentioned to you that he learned from a book that this Cursed God had a good relationship with Master Jiang Ziyu and often visited brothels together, right?" Qingcheng asked.
"Yes, it seems that way," I nodded.
"And this Cursed God's essence has been absent from our world for five hundred years. How could he possibly have gone to brothels with Master Jiang Ziyu?" Qingcheng scoffed. "So I think this Cursed God is lying."
"Qingcheng, you forgot one thing!" Kong Xuan interjected. "Isn't it possible that Master Jiang Ziyu could have visited brothels with him five hundred years ago? For Grandmaster-level Experts, living for a thousand or eight hundred years is not unusual."
"Uh, I did overlook that," Qingcheng said with an embarrassed smile as she picked up a piece of Largemouth Bass and began to chew it slowly.
"I agree with Sister Ghost; that Cursed God is definitely not a good guy," Fatty said while gnawing on a chicken leg. "From start to finish, that guy has been plotting against us. If I hadn't managed to snatch that Speechless Stifling away, Ghost Brother and I would probably have been killed by him."
"Thank you for saving my life," I laughed as I tossed aside the chicken bone, raised my glass, and downed my beer in one go.
"Then why didn't you represent the moon to eliminate him?" Kong Xuan joked.
"It's not that I'm soft-hearted; it's just that if we can't find Fortune God here, we can always go back to look for him. This is still a lead, right?" I said while stuffing a large piece of eggplant into my mouth, making my words somewhat unclear.
"Let's not worry about that for now. We should discuss how to proceed," Kong Xuan pondered for a moment and said, "Not everyone can access the Sky Building, and we need a plan for what to do once we're up there."
The four of us discussed for a while and finally decided that I, along with Kong Xuan and Fatty, would go up to find the Fortune God, while Qingcheng would stay downstairs to provide support in case of any unexpected events. We also confirmed some details for communication before everyone dispersed.
On the morning of the third day, the sun was exceptionally scorching, as if announcing that summer had officially begun.
I was wearing the uniform of an Iron Telecom broadband maintenance worker and sat with Qingcheng in the McDonald's Restaurant across from the Sky Building, enjoying the air conditioning while waiting for Kong Xuan. After a while, Kong Xuan arrived dressed in a Telecom uniform, followed by Fatty in a Great Wall broadband maintenance uniform. The three of us exchanged glances, and immediately we looked at each other with confusion.
"Damn, weren't we supposed to wear broadband maintenance uniforms?" Kong Xuan exclaimed angrily.
"What? Does Iron Telecom not have broadband anymore?" I retorted even more angrily.
"Are you discriminating against disadvantaged groups? Is Great Wall broadband not broadband?" Fatty shot a sideways glance at Kong Xuan.
Qingcheng stood by for a moment before bursting into laughter: "Haha, didn't you three discuss this beforehand?"
"We did," Kong Xuan said with a helpless expression. "My uniform is for a broadband repair worker. I just overlooked that there are distinctions between Iron Telecom, Telecom, and Great Wall."
"What should we do then? Hurry back and change clothes?" Qingcheng suggested with a smile.
"That's easier said than done. I stole this uniform; I'm already chuckling at how I managed to get one in such a large size. If anyone's changing, it should be you guys," Fatty crossed his arms defiantly.
"I'm not changing anything! The broadband network installed in the Sky Building is from Telecom," Kong Xuan said with a glint in his eye. "How about this: you guys cover the logos on your uniforms with electrical tape. If anyone asks, you can say you're wearing autumn or spring outfits or that your job types are different, which is why the uniforms are different colors."
"Alright then, let's go!" After saying goodbye to Qingcheng, I got up and headed for the door.
"Xuan Ge, what about your tools?" Fatty casually asked Kong Xuan. "If three of us go to inspect the lines empty-handed, we'll get beaten by security."
"Outside." Kong Xuan gestured towards the door and looked up to see a van parked by the roadside, with 'Telecom Repair' written in large letters on its side.
"Damn, Brother Xuan, you really went all out, even got an engineering vehicle," Fatty joked as the three of them stepped outside.
"What do you mean all out? This is just the van from Haitang Academy's cafeteria that buys groceries in the morning. I just found a random advertising company to slap on a few non-adhesive stickers; it cost me no more than a pack of cigarettes and a few bucks," Kong Xuan replied with a smile.
He took out three toolboxes from the van, which also had 'Telecom Repair' written on them. When asked where they came from, Kong Xuan chuckled and said he bought them as clearance items from a hardware store; they contained drill machines, pliers, wrenches, and the like. Each of them grabbed a toolbox, found some tape to cover up the Iron Telecom and Great Wall logos on their clothes, checked each other for any flaws, and then headed towards the lobby of Sky Building.
As soon as they entered, a security guard approached and stopped them: "Excuse me, which company sent you here?"
"81st floor, He Jing Law Firm," Kong Xuan replied calmly. "You can call to verify."
He Jing was Tang Zian's girlfriend from six months ago. To get her to help cover for him, Tang Zian had spent the night with her last night, which was why she agreed. According to Tang Zian, he had dark circles under his eyes when he left in the morning... tsk tsk, that's quite a favor.
The security guard went to the front desk in the lobby and made a phone call. After a brief conversation, he returned and handed them three access passes: "Just swipe these at the passage ahead."
The three of them swiped their passes to enter the elevator area and took it straight to the 81st floor. He Jing Law Firm was located at 810. Once inside, they casually chatted about how nice the weather was—just for the cameras—and then pretended to inspect their surroundings with their toolboxes.
