Zhong Kui's Diary
"Isn't this just luck?" I said with a mix of laughter and tears. "You have so much money, and since you're willing to work hard, there aren't many things in this world that you can't achieve."
"There's a reason for my success," Huang Jianguo replied. "Actually, ten years ago, I was just a worker. I used to buy soft White Sand for four dollars a pack, and when I needed more, I had to go to Qingxiu Park for the free options, which meant that every time I indulged, I had to cut back on my smoking!"
"Impossible," Lingfeng interjected firmly. "If you only developed to this point in ten years, my grandfather would never be so wary of you."
"There’s a reason why your grandfather is wary of me," Huang Jianguo said, a strange smile appearing on his face.
"What reason?" Lingfeng and I asked almost in unison.
"On the surface, it's because I know people close to Number One. But honestly, I’m not afraid to tell you that everything I have today is due to divine favor; the Fortune God has always been watching over and protecting me!" Huang Jianguo declared proudly.
"What? The Fortune God?" I exclaimed in shock.
"The Fortune God’s protection?" Lingfeng echoed in disbelief.
"That's right, the Fortune God!" Huang Jianguo looked up at a 45-degree angle as if searching for something. He then pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lit one, took a deep drag, placed one hand on his hip, and gazed into the distance. "For many years now, I've kept a low profile."
I suddenly felt that the Huang Jianguo we had been talking to was merely suppressing his true nature; deep down, he was a typical grassroots… well, a typical hustler.
"Uh, Mr. Huang, can you give us an example? Just saying you have the Fortune God backing you feels so empty!" I laughed heartily.
"Let me put it this way," Huang Jianguo turned to look at me with an air of pretentiousness. "Ten years ago, it was an early autumn afternoon; the sun was warmly shining down on me, and every pore in my body was filled with joyful sighs..."
"Ahem, enough with the fluff; get to the point!" I coughed lightly.
"Ten years ago, I accidentally saved the Fortune God. To express his gratitude, he promised to ensure my good fortune for this lifetime. Ever since then, everything I do seems to be blessed by divine intervention." Huang Jianguo really managed to simplify it.
"How does that divine intervention work?" I asked curiously.
"Zhen Shuai, I assume you all know him, right?" Huang Jianguo smiled.
"Yes, I know him. He had pretty good luck; he started out by winning a few lottery tickets," I nodded.
"Those lottery numbers were the ones I told him," Huang Jianguo said proudly.
"What?" Lingfeng and I exclaimed in surprise again.
Seemingly understanding our astonishment, Huang Jianguo gave a wry smile. "You think this is unscientific, don't you? I thought so too. Back then, I was poor—really poor. Spending two dollars on a lottery ticket was a significant expense for me. I didn't even know if the Fortune God was real or not. Just as Zhen Shuai was coming to buy a ticket, I gave him a few numbers... Zhen Shuai knew how to show gratitude; after winning tens of millions, the first thing he did was give me a hundred thousand as a thank-you. Then I ended up winning five million myself."
"I mean, why would you do anything else? If every ticket you buy wins five million, you'd have no pressure or burden. That sounds so easy," I said after being stunned for a while.
"Winning once is already incredibly lucky. If you keep winning big prizes every few weeks, people are bound to get suspicious. They might even take you in for questioning. I'm not stupid; why would I want to draw attention to myself?" Huang Jianguo looked at me disdainfully.
Wow, so you're saying that my interpretation makes me look foolish? I couldn't help but feel amused and exasperated.
"Besides, with the Fortune God's protection, what can't I do? Everything will succeed anyway; what pressure could I possibly have? It's just lying back and counting money," Huang Jianguo continued. "Even this Golden Blade Advertising company I'm running now—I didn't even have to worry about it. I just hired a few people from the talent market and gave them some shares. They worked like they were on steroids and turned Golden Blade Advertising into a super company in just a few years. Tsk tsk, my luck is really something."
"I guess that means I've understood what good luck is. By the way, what does the Fortune God look like?" I changed the subject.
"Well, he looks kind of like a ping pong ball," Huang Jianguo pondered for a moment before speaking.
"You mean the Fortune God is just a ball?" I laughed in surprise.
"That's true." Huang Jianguo shot me a dissatisfied glance. "Do you really think you need to wear a black cap and hold a jade scepter to be considered a Fortune God?"
"Then where is this Fortune God now?" I asked casually.
"Damn it, what are you trying to get at? Do you think I would tell you?" Huang Jianguo said disdainfully.
"You..." I pointed at Huang Jianguo, feeling both amused and exasperated. "I was just asking casually. If you don't want to tell me, that's fine, but why be so harsh about it?"
"Alright, it's my fault, I apologize. However, let me make it clear: don't think about using any means to threaten me. With the protection of the Fortune God, no one can touch me. Lingfeng's grandfather is impressive, right? But I'm lucky to know the Chief Secretary next to Number One; just he alone can stand against the entire Ling Family," Huang Jianguo smiled. "Anyway, no matter which way you look at it, my luck will help me find a solution."
"What about Jiang Chengguang?" I sneered.
"Uh..." Huang Jianguo was momentarily taken aback, scratching his head and giving a dry laugh. "This is really strange; my luck seems to have run out when it comes to Jiang Chengguang. It seems like he's cursing me. Could he be some kind of Cursed God?"
Cursed God? The Cursed God has long since left this world; the lingering consciousness is completely useless! I chuckled inwardly but said, "You never know; some things can't be explained by science and can only be understood through personal belief."
After chatting with Huang Jianguo for a while longer and agreeing to keep in touch if anything came up, he handed me a few red cards. "These are our company's access cards, the highest level. You can come up anytime, but..."
"But what?" I asked casually.
Huang Jianguo pointed at the blood-red Gun Spire. "This Spearhead was built under the orders of the Fortune God; all my good luck is inside it. Please don't destroy it carelessly."
Seeing me smile and agree, Huang Jianguo turned and went downstairs.
"It’s quite possible that his Fortune God is real." Once Huang Jianguo's figure disappeared, Lingfeng frowned and said, "At least he knows Number One's Chief Secretary; that much is definitely true."
"Yes, the most important thing right now is to find the Fortune God." I looked up at the Gun Spire. "I suspect that Fatty and Kong Xuan were taken away by the Fortune God."
Lingfeng followed my gaze towards Spearhead and hesitated, saying, "What do you mean? Is the Fortune God inside this Spearhead?"
"Not necessarily inside, but it is definitely related to this Spearhead. The Cursed God is on the top floor of Sky Building, and both Fatty and Kong Xuan went missing beneath the Spearhead. Just now, Huang Jianguo... this Spearhead was personally entrusted by the Fortune God. When you combine these three aspects, it’s clear that this Spearhead is connected to the Fortune God," I said, stroking my chin with certainty.
"So what do we do?" Lingfeng frowned even more. "Such a big thing, even with a cutting machine, it would take a lot to cut through..."
"No need to cut; just drill a hole and take a look inside."
"Do it now?"
"Maybe later; I'll call Qingcheng to help." I smiled and added, "Although I'm already a Grandmaster Level expert, when it comes to Spell, I'm still a complete novice."
"Why not call Ji Wuyuan? Wouldn't that give us more assurance?" Lingfeng asked curiously.
"Ji Wuyuan can only be considered a half-friend, but I can completely trust Qingcheng. That’s the difference," I sighed. "Humans and ghosts are on different paths; an old saying holds true."
"That's true!" Lingfeng nodded.
The two of us wandered around the rooftop for a while longer but found nothing and reluctantly headed downstairs.
After parting ways with Lingfeng, I called Qingcheng. Before long, she walked over from the mall across the street. Seeing me alone, she looked surprised. "Did Kong Xuan and the others go back?"
I recounted what had happened earlier. Upon hearing this, Qingcheng's expression changed. After pondering for a moment, she said, "Zheng Nan, your situation doesn't seem to be related to Spell."
"Not related to Spell?" I was taken aback. If such a bizarre occurrence couldn't be explained by Spell, then what could explain it?
"Based on what you've described, it seems time has been distorted. When those two had their incident, their actions were much slower than usual. This kind of inconsistency in timing is something our Spell cannot achieve," Qingcheng explained slowly.
"You guys can stop time with Spell, right? What about Binding Technique and Rejuvenation?" I asked in surprise.
"You've been watching too much TV; that's mythology, it's virtual. Well, even if such things existed, Rejuvenation just adjusts a person's bodily functions to a younger state, which has nothing to do with time. As for Binding Technique, it merely fixes certain things in place, not time," Qingcheng chuckled lightly.
"Last time, Ji Wuyuan created a door that suddenly transported me to the mountains, and then they just left me there. I had to trek for a long time before I found someone, and then I took a horse, a car, and finally a plane back to Star City. Is that door also unrelated to time?" I countered.
"That was spatial teleportation; although it's mysterious, it has nothing to do with time," Qingcheng shook her head. "Let's not dwell on that; the focus now is how to find Kong Xuan and the others."
I shared my speculation, and Qingcheng strongly agreed with my viewpoint: "Indeed, that Spearhead is highly suspicious. When do you plan to go?"
"Tonight," I pondered for a moment. "During the day, it would be too conspicuous for me to be climbing around Spearhead."
"Yeah, that works," Qingcheng nodded.
When I returned home, Guo'er was not there. I called her, and she was in Chaoyang City with Lin Xuan. Lin Xuan is Jin Zhenzhong's wife and also Guo'er's godmother. After hanging up, I thought about it and decided not to tell Anran Ai and the others about this matter for now. If we can't find anyone after tonight, then I'll inform them.
