Zhong Kui's Diary
The scenery outside the window flew by, and I stared blankly at it.
On this trip from the capital to Star City, Qingcheng was sitting next to me. I had been staying with the Xiao Family in the capital, ostensibly to travel in Beijing, but in reality, I was there to observe Grandpa Xiao.
Recently, all the clues pointed towards Grandpa Xiao, which left me feeling extremely conflicted. In the end, I confessed my doubts to Qingcheng. She didn’t seem bothered and directly bought high-speed train tickets back to the capital. Seeing is believing; once you meet Grandpa, you will naturally understand.
After arriving at the Xiao Family in the capital, I finally understood what Qingcheng meant. After the Mountain Villa Incident, Grandpa Xiao had lost all his magical powers. Now, he was just an ordinary person from head to toe. In his words, that damned Spell had tormented him for decades. Now that he was free from it, he wanted to enjoy the rest of his life.
Grandpa Xiao even invited me to test his remaining magical powers. After trying it out, it was clear that there was no trace of magic left in him; it seemed he had dispersed his powers quite some time ago.
I secretly asked Qingcheng, “Since you and Grandpa have both lost your powers, why did you bring me to the capital? Do you not trust me? Do I need to see it for myself?”
Xiao Qingcheng smiled slyly and said, “I also wanted to see my parents! After all, I’m bringing my fiancé home; shouldn’t you be a bit more spirited?”
I felt confused. “What about Guo'er?”
This topic was like a taboo among the three of us; we never touched upon it. But now that Qingcheng had already brought up her fiancé status, I could only grit my teeth and ask.
Qingcheng’s expression dimmed slightly. “We have to resolve this issue somehow.”
I fell silent. How could this be resolved? Should I just split myself in half?
Seeing me silent, Qingcheng burst into laughter and poked my forehead with her finger. “Look at your silly face! Guo'er and I have already discussed this.”
“How did you discuss it?” I asked curiously.
“We can just find a country that allows polygamy and obtain their nationality; then everything will be solved!” Qingcheng rolled her eyes.
“I will not betray my country!” I replied solemnly.
"This is just a metaphor. Who would leave our own country except for those corrupt officials? Don't worry, with your current connections, who would be foolish enough to investigate you? Besides, neither Guo'er nor I care about that document; what else do you want?" Qingcheng said somewhat angrily.
I naturally smiled broadly. "Actually, the spirit of Patriotism isn't about nationality... I've heard that men in the UAE can have more than ten wives. How about we join that country's nationality?"
"You wish!" Qingcheng retorted angrily.
...
Laughing aside, this trip to the capital finally resolved two concerns. First, I confirmed that Grandpa Xiao would not kill the murderer of Ghost Zombie and Gugu. Second, both Guo'er and Qingcheng were willing to live happily with me. While I felt relieved, I couldn't help but feel a bit anxious; from now on, the three of us would often be together, so it was necessary to buy some Six-Flavor Rehmannia Pill.
However, a greater doubt surged in my mind: who was the murderer of Ghost Zombie and Gugu? Now that Ghost Zombie and Gugu were dead, and Grandpa Xiao had already lost his powers, the only one who could possibly invoke Divine Farmer's Protection was me.
Could it be that I was the murderer? Damn, am I going a bit crazy?
The train was almost at Xingcheng High-Speed Railway Station. A huge advertisement flashed by outside the window, depicting towering mountains shrouded in mist, with an eagle soaring above. The entire scene conveyed a sense of 'overlooking all mountains,' and the advertisement slogan was simple yet grand—Sky Building, overlooking Star City.
The Sky Building belonged to Huang Jianguo. Ever since the disappearance of Fortune God and Cursed God, Huang Jianguo had officially broken free from their control. However, because of this, his business had not been as fortunate as before.
Previously, the leases for Sky Building were in high demand; there were even people who paid deposits to reserve office spaces ten years in advance. But now, businesses had begun to withdraw from Sky Building, and some floors even had vacant spaces. This was why Huang Jianguo had to advertise externally.
I wondered if Huang Jianguo missed the days when he was protected by Fortune God. I thought this without malice.
There's a saying that goes something like this: when you mention someone, they appear.
I don't know if there's any scientific basis for this saying, but it certainly happens in real life. For example, if Zhang San and Li Si are talking about Wang Wu, Wang Wu might suddenly appear before them without them realizing it.
I hadn't even finished thinking about it when I immediately spotted Huang Jianguo... his honey—Lin Lin.
She was carrying a backpack and following a tall man who looked quite handsome, somewhat resembling Nicholas Tse. They both hurriedly walked toward the end of the carriage; it seemed they wanted to reach the door early so they could be the first to get off onto the platform when it opened.
"Lin Lin!" I couldn't help but call out.
Lin Lin paused for a moment, turned to glance at me, and then her expression turned blank, as if she didn't recognize me at all. Her gaze swept past my face like I was a stranger, and she turned away to continue walking.
"Who is that?" Qingcheng said, somewhat displeased that Lin Lin ignored me.
"Lin Lin," I scratched my head and quickly recounted her story, concluding, "Anyway, she played along with Huang Jianguo in a little act. Have you heard of the hero Wang Er who herded cattle? She was that cowherd who led us into an ambush."
"Given that, she can't possibly not remember you, right?" Qingcheng frowned and said, "Could it be you mistook her for someone else?"
"How could I mistake her?" I smiled confidently. "When I was in middle school, I was known as a prodigy with an extraordinary memory."
"So, you remember all pretty girls?" Qingcheng looked at me with a half-smile.
I quickly changed the subject. "Maybe I really did see someone else; there are too many similar people in this world."
"How could that be? You called out to Lin Lin, and she turned around," Qingcheng laughed.
"Perhaps she got kicked in the head by a donkey and forgot about me... Oh, look! We're arriving!" I feigned surprise and pointed out the window to change the topic again. "Finally back in Star City! I'm so happy."
...
Upon returning to Star City, everything returned to its original course. Fatty and I continued our noble profession of 'Zhong Kui Will Help You,' while Kong Xuan still sold his magical tools at the temple. Lingfeng had been caught up in the aftermath of the recent serial murder case; other families seized this opportunity to attack him. Fortunately, at a critical moment, Lou Wei stepped in and made arrangements with some neutral families. With the Ling Family's strong backing and after exchanging many benefits, Lingfeng managed to avoid being implicated in this case and retained his status as a rising star of the Ling Family.
As for the Grandmaster level experts, Ghost Zombie and Gugu were dead, and Grandpa Xiao had dispersed his powers. Among the original Top Masters, only seven remained. These seven Grandmasters were divided into four factions: Yun Zhihan and Qu Wubing formed one faction; Ji Wuyuan John and Jiang Ziyu made up another; I counted as one faction myself. As for Yazhi, that guy was elusive; we couldn't get in touch with him. He might not be dead yet, so we could consider him a faction as well.
Yun Zhihan and Qu Wubing were inseparable for now. On Ji Wuyuan's side, since I accepted Jiang Ziyu's Yin-Yang Ancient Coin, they owed me a favor. At critical moments, I could call on them for help; thus, I had formed a temporary alliance with Ji Wuyuan's faction. Because of this alliance, that mysterious person had not made any moves; perhaps he was wary of our collaboration.
To be honest, among these people, I was most suspicious of Yazhi. First of all, he had the strongest powers; secondly, he always acted alone. However, Ji Wuyuan dismissed my suspicions. Just based on one point: Yazhi was a descendant of dragons; whether it was Demon spells or human Taoist techniques, he couldn't learn them. It was impossible for him to have taught Ghost Zombie Divine Farmer's Protection.
Days passed quietly without any ups or downs until autumn arrived.
Star City is one of the most famous fire cities in the country; because of this reputation, it is also known as the most famous city of sensuality in the nation. Once summer arrives, the streets are filled with pale arms and bright thighs. Whether it's youthful girls or sensuous young women, their outfits showcase their unique styles and embody the essence of summer—there are long skirts trailing on the ground, ankle-revealing cropped pants, knee-length skirts exposing legs, short skirts showing off thighs, and even one type that I don't know what to call—it's like wearing underwear tied with a belt outside; there's hardly any fabric left. Fatty affectionately calls it a "mini skirt."
I walked along Riverside Avenue with Fatty, laughing and enjoying the view of various bright legs, feeling that life was sweeter than honey.
Before the Star River Bridge was built, cars could only cross the river using large car ferries repeatedly. Now, there are seven Star River Bridges in Star City, and the ferry has lost its historical significance. However, due to the calm waters, it has become a popular summer spot for the people of Star City.
It was a little past five in the afternoon, peak swimming time. Looking around, the people swimming at the ferry resembled dumplings boiling in a pot, a large mass of pale bodies. I had originally planned to invite Kong Xuan to join me, but Kong Xuan had never been in the water before, so I needed to find a swimming pool to teach her first.
In no time, I stripped off my clothes and jumped straight into the water. The chill of the river hit me, and my pores contracted all over my body. Wow, that felt amazing.
Fatty couldn't wait to get in either; he swam directly towards a few beautiful women without caring that there were two muscular men guarding them.
This guy! I thought he had matured after having a daughter, but he was still as lewd as ever.
I don't know him! I absolutely do not know this lewd Fatty!
Turning my head, I put on my goggles and dove into the water, weaving around people's legs as I swam toward the center of the river. The closer I got to the center, the fewer people there were, which would allow me to enjoy myself more.
After surfacing twice for air, just as I was preparing to come up for a third breath, I suddenly saw a pale figure ahead rapidly sinking to the bottom of the water. There was also a dark shadow at their feet, probably flippers or something similar. Hmm, how strange; who swims with flippers by the river? Do they think it's the beach?
