Zhong Kui's Diary
Hearing Lin Lin say that, I was immediately taken aback. What on earth is going on?
Lin Fei, isn't she just a nurse? She's not some wealthy person. Why would Mr. Qian kidnap her? Moreover, he actually asked Lin Lin for five million in cash, which makes no sense at all. Zhou Mu Yang, Leizu Wu, and Zhang Dingcheng only asked for around one million in ransom, while Lin Lin is just a Mistress, yet he demands five million from her?
For a moment, my head was spinning, my heart racing like a deer—like a giant deer that had just consumed three pounds of Viagra.
Suddenly, I found my previous deductions to be exceptionally ridiculous and absurd. Aren't you the one behind the Sky Building kidnapping of merchants? Now Lin Lin's sister has also been kidnapped; what does this mean? Aren't you Huang Jianguo who is up to no good? Now the one being kidnapped is the sister of his partner.
No wonder Huang Jianguo and Lin Lin had that expression when they heard about my Kidnapping Case; it turns out this is what happened. I had mistakenly thought Huang Jianguo was feeling guilty.
Silence...
The room fell into silence.
No one spoke; perhaps everyone didn't know what to say.
Knock, knock, knock.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, and then it was pushed open slightly. A deep and honest male voice came through: "President Huang, I am Deng Weikang."
Huang Jianguo paused for a moment, glanced at me and Kong Xuan, and said loudly: "Old Deng, wait outside for a moment. Uh... you should head back to the office first."
Old Deng outside responded with an "Oh," pulled the door tight, and his footsteps gradually faded away.
I cleared my throat lightly: "Lin, did this kidnapper call you?"
"Well, yes, otherwise how would I know he asked me for five million?" Lin Lin looked at me strangely, as if my question was very foolish.
"Does he have any idea who he is?" I frowned.
"No, he just wants me to prepare five million in cash." When it came to the amount of five million, Lin Lin couldn't help but glance at Huang Jianguo. It was obvious that it would be difficult for her to come up with that much money, and she could only hope for Huang Jianguo's help.
"Did he mention how the transaction would work?" I found it strange; what exactly did Mr. Qian want to do?
"No, just that after I have the money, I need to post something in the Gossip World section of the Star City Forum. It can be anything, but the title must be 'For five million, I walked down a path of no return,'" Lin Lin said, looking down.
"Damn, posting on the Star City Forum? Why doesn't he just post on Yaba?" I was getting a bit frantic; this person was undoubtedly Mr. Qian. Only he would come up with such a ridiculous idea.
"So what do you plan to do?" I sighed and asked Lin Lin, my gaze sweeping over Huang Jianguo.
"What else can I do?" Lin Lin looked at me blankly before turning her gaze back to Huang Jianguo.
"Ahem!" Huang Jianguo cleared his throat. "Lin, you should use your own money first to get your sister back. After some time, I'll reimburse you. You know the company is under a lot of pressure right now."
"I can only raise 4.05 million right now; this includes 40,000 that my sister lent me and my dad's entire savings of 70,000..." Lin Lin couldn't help but start sobbing again.
"Alright, you don't need to worry about those things. I'll give you one million right now!" Huang Jianguo took out his checkbook and quickly wrote a check, tearing it off and handing it to Lin Lin. He glanced at his watch. "Hurry and make an appointment with the bank; you might be able to get cash today. You should go now."
Lin Lin took the check, stood up to wipe her tears, and bowed deeply to Huang Jianguo. "Thank you, Brother Huang."
"Alright, stop with the fussing and go!" Huang Jianguo waved his hand impatiently.
Lin Lin waved goodbye to me and Kong Xuan before turning to leave.
After Lin Lin left the room, Huang Jianguo cleared his throat twice and asked, "Ling Ju, how long does it usually take to solve a kidnapping case?"
Kong Xuan clicked his tongue a couple of times. "That's hard to say. They're all acquaintances, and I won't hide it from you; if we're lucky, we could solve it in three to five days. But that’s only if luck is on our side. In a more typical scenario, one or two months would be considered fast, while a year or so is normal. It's even possible for it to remain an unsolved case indefinitely."
Listening to Kong Xuan, Huang Jianguo stared blankly at the spot where Lin Fei had just sat, seemingly lost in thought. After a while, he cursed, "Damn, it's like throwing money into the water! It seems this woman is bringing some bad luck; it's time for her to go... By the way, Zheng Nan, is your friend fully authorized to handle the leasing matter, or just asking about prices?"
I pretended to be shy and said, "He just wanted me to ask about prices. Originally, he intended to go to Ping An Building, but since I know you well, Mr. Huang, there might be a discount..."
Huang Jianguo nodded. "Zheng Nan, let me put it this way: your friend is looking to launder money, right? Tell him I have connections in Beijing and can introduce him to those cinema owners."
"Wow, if that's the case, I'll rush back and tell him this good news!" I exclaimed with feigned excitement. If I didn’t act surprised, it would reveal my ignorance; those cinema owners decide which films get released.
After chatting 'excitedly' with Huang Jianguo for a bit longer, we finally stood up to leave.
Once downstairs, I called Fatty. Lin Lin needed someone to keep watch. When Fatty heard that the person to be monitored was an old star from Emperor Club, he was initially thrilled but then his tone changed dramatically as he spoke with righteous indignation about how he would go through fire and water for this cause—expressing deep concern for the nation and its people.
After hanging up the phone, I followed Kong Xuan as we drove aimlessly around Star City. Actually, we weren’t aimless; we intended to scout the terrain and consider potential escape routes that Mr. Qian might use next time.
During the first ransom drop-off, he had us throw the money off Star River Bridge while he calmly departed in a modified fishing boat from beneath the bridge.
In the second ransom drop-off, he instructed us to toss the money into a sewer. After swapping out the cash below, he casually walked away as if taking a stroll.
What method would he employ for the third ransom drop-off? He had hinted at an even more thrilling game over the phone; what could it be?
He had tried methods from the water and from underground; surely he wouldn't leave from above next time? I quickly dismissed that thought. In our country, air traffic control is extremely strict, and the processes for obtaining permits from the Civil Aviation Administration and local military airspace are not something that can be bypassed with a fake ID to rent a helicopter.
However, another possibility crossed my mind. What if Mr. Qian wanted us to place the money on a mountaintop or the rooftop of a building, and then remotely control that thing called Phantom Claw to come and take the money? Uh... it seems that this black hand doesn't have the ability to fly.
But what if Mr. Qian wanted us to put the money by the river, and then remotely control Phantom Claw to drag the safe into the water and escape? After all, with a remote control distance of zero meters, he could operate it from anywhere along the riverbank. As for whether the money would get wet, well, that’s not an issue; it could dry out and still be usable.
Damn, if that were the case, how should I stop him? I shared this possibility with Kong Xuan, who was equally dumbfounded. After thinking for a while, Kong Xuan suddenly cursed, "Damn it, Zheng Nan, I realize you're really an idiot!"
I retorted angrily, "You're the real idiot here!"
Kong Xuan laughed and said, "Isn't there a Phantom Mosquito in the box? Our goal is to get Mr. Qian to take the ransom back so we can find his lair and capture him. How could you even think about stopping him? Aren't you an idiot?"
Thinking about it, he was right. With the Phantom Mosquito, why was I even worried? Still, I stubbornly argued, "Come on, you didn't think of that at first either! And what if your Phantom Mosquito fails?"
"Impossible! Even if I threw the safe into lava, my Phantom Mosquito would still come back." Kong Xuan said this without even blushing; he probably wasn't just boasting.
"Alright then, let's go eat first!" I felt relieved upon hearing that.
———————————The dividing line of eager anticipation——————————————
At 8:30 AM the next day, we drove Lingfeng's off-road vehicle to Leizu Wu's house. The moment we saw Leizu Wu, we were both slightly taken aback. In just one or two nights, Leizu Wu's eyes were bloodshot, and his face was unshaven like he had aged several years.
Regardless of whether he had been a leader in the past or what profession he was currently engaged in, none of that mattered at this moment; he was simply a father.
Pity for a parent's heart.
The living room has been tidied up, and without the Coffee Table, it feels a bit strange. Kong Xuan and I sat down to drink water, only able to place our disposable cups beside our feet.
Around nine o'clock, the doorbell rang. Leizu Wu, who was focused on her phone, instinctively picked it up, only to realize it wasn't the sound of her phone. For a moment, she was confused, her eyes wide as she looked around. I pointed towards the front door, and Leizu Wu suddenly snapped back to reality, embarrassedly tapping her forehead. She walked over to the door's security monitor and glanced at it before pressing the intercom button. "Who is it?"
"Delivery!" came a clear male voice from the intercom.
Leizu Wu pressed the switch for the Copper Door in the yard and turned to shout loudly towards the third floor, "Yue, did you buy something online again?"
There was a sound of a door opening from the third floor, followed by someone clattering down the stairs. Soon, Rayue appeared in front of us wearing Big Mouth Monkey Pajamas. She glanced at us but didn't greet us; instead, she walked straight to Leizu Wu and complained, "Can't you just sign for it? This is the Coffee Table I bought for the house."
Leizu Wu was taken aback. "How would I know what it is? What if it's your personal item? It might not even be a Coffee Table."
Just then, there was a knock at the front door. Rayue walked over and opened it. The door was partially blocked by a screen, so I couldn't see what the delivery person looked like. Out of politeness, I prepared to help at the door; if it was indeed a Coffee Table, it should come in a large package.
Before I could reach the door, Rayue let out a scream, followed by Leizu Wu's furious shout: "What the hell are you doing?"
In an instant, Leizu Wu sprang towards the door like an agile leopard. Then there was a loud bang as someone kicked her away, sending her flying three meters back before she landed on her back on the ground.
