Zhong Kui's Diary
It's indeed Kong Xuan. The kidnappings and such are just a cover; Mr. Qian's real goal is the People's Bank!
Although the People's Bank does not have savings or loan services, it has gold.
Located on Jinshan Road, the People's Bank has a massive Underground Vault. Inside the vault is an immense amount of gold, and saying it's invaluable is no exaggeration. The gold reserves of provincial-level People's Banks are measured in tons. An authoritative source once revealed that there is at least 5 tons of gold in the Underground Vault of the People's Bank on Jinshan Road in Qinghu District.
What does 5 tons of gold mean? Based on the current market price of gold at 60 yuan per gram, that translates to 60,000 yuan per kilogram (since there are 1,000 grams in a kilogram), and 6 million yuan per ton (since there are 1,000 kilograms in a ton). Therefore, 5 tons would amount to approximately 300 million yuan... Damn it, can I curse? No? On what grounds can you stop me from cursing? Damn! No wonder Mr. Qian doesn't care about a million; he is eyeing gold worth nearly ten billion.
With this realization, many things start to make sense. The various kidnappings and bombings that occurred earlier were merely distractions. The sole purpose of Mr. Qian's actions was to collapse the sewer beneath the People's Bank on Jinshan Road. He planned to use the bomb incidents to draw all police forces to the school area. During this citywide chaos, Mr. Qian would boldly operate under the guise of a municipal project, using a type of Shield Tunneling Machine and an Excavator, starting from the collapsed sewer area to dig a direct tunnel into the vault. As for those three large dump trucks, they were meant for transporting gold.
Now, three or four hours have passed, and I still don't know how things are going. I quickly called Lou Wei, shared my speculation, and urged him to notify Public Security Bureau Chief Wan Dahai immediately to seal off all entrances.
Upon hearing this, Lou Wei gasped in shock and hung up without saying much. Two minutes later, he called back; Wan Dahai was already making arrangements.
"What do we do now?" Kong Xuan asked me.
"Let's go check out the People's Bank!” I said as I got up on my Electric Vehicle, signaling for Kong Xuan to get on. The vehicle sped off.
After exiting the alley and turning three streets, we arrived at Jinshan Road. When we reached there, we found no signs of any blockade on Jinshan Road. I couldn't help but curse under my breath; what is Wan Dahai doing? Is it really that hard to deploy a few officers from nearby streets?
When we got to the site of the previous sewer collapse, we discovered that an Excavator had dug out a passageway. The collapse had originally created a large pit in the center of the street, and after being excavated, it turned into a road wide enough for large vehicles to enter. I even saw huge tire tracks in the muddy area. Clearly, these were left by those three large dump trucks.
We exchanged glances and got off the Electric Vehicle, following the tire tracks down. Not far along, we spotted an excavator parked below. In front of it was a passageway blocked by a massive amount of dirt; evidently, Mr. Qian had used the excavator to seal off access to the Underground Vault.
"What does this mean?" Kong Xuan asked in astonishment.
"He’s buying himself more time for retreat!" I replied after thinking for a while.
Damn, what is Mr. Qian's mind made of? Even at this critical moment, he can still proceed with the aftermath in an orderly manner—after they took the gold, even if someone goes down to check, they will return disappointed because there’s nothing to see. As long as the bank doesn’t notice, the theft of the gold won’t be exposed from other angles, which gives them more time to escape with the gold.
"Are you saying they have already taken the gold and left?" Kong Xuan asked.
"Of course! Otherwise, would they lock themselves inside waiting for you to catch them? Our only hope now is that Wan Dahai can seal off the roads. Hmm... Let’s go check the bank's surveillance." I returned with Kong Xuan and called Lou Wei to update him on the situation and ask what was going on with Wan Dahai.
Lou Wei was also a bit annoyed, cursing: "That Wan Dahai is such an idiot; he hasn’t even sealed off the intersection yet. I asked him to dispatch a Helicopter, but there’s no news. He just keeps saying everything is under control."
"Does Wan Dahai even know how to do his job?" I hung up the phone feeling frustrated. If it were Lingfeng, this matter would have been settled long ago.
I hurried into the People's Bank and saw a security guard from a distance. I waved and called out, "Guard! Guard!"
The guard walked over with an unhappy expression: "What’s the matter?"
"Is your captain around?" I asked.
"What do you need him for?" The guard looked at me suspiciously, frowning.
"I need him... Damn!" In my urgency, I suddenly froze and didn’t know what to say.
Seeing this, Kong Xuan snorted coldly, stepped forward, and grabbed the guard by the neck, flipping him onto the ground and straddling him while raising his fist to strike.
"What are you doing?" I exclaimed in shock, quickly reaching out to stop Kong Xuan.
"This is the fastest way to get the security captain here!" Kong Xuan said while hitting the guard, but I could tell he was being careful, only targeting non-vital areas.
Uh, maybe that’s true. If you go to a police station to report something, it might take a while for an officer to come out. But if you start beating up the officer at the front desk, within ten seconds, a whole bunch of police will definitely rush out.
Sure enough, just seven or eight seconds in, three security guards rushed over from a corner of the lobby, shouting angrily, wielding Glue Sticks with an imposing presence.
"Stop!" I shouted sternly.
"Stop your mother!" The lead guard, a chubby man with a big head and ears, swung his stick at my head. The whooshing wind rushed towards me; if I didn't dodge in time, this Glue Stick would surely knock me out cold!
This guy was too aggressive. Weighing the pros and cons, I couldn't afford to hold back like Kong Xuan anymore. I kicked him down to the ground and followed up with another kick. Just as I was about to deal with the other two guards, I noticed that Kong Xuan had already stood up and, with a couple of swift moves, took down the two remaining guards. In an instant, four security guards lay on the ground, while chaos erupted in the distance with men shouting angrily and women screaming.
"Where's your captain?" Ignoring the situation inside, I grabbed the chubby guard by his collar and lifted him up, snatching the Glue Stick from his hand. I said sternly, "Call your captain over right now, or I'll use this stick!"
With that, I slammed the Glue Stick hard onto the ground, shattering the marble floor into pieces. When threatening someone, you have to crush their inner resolve with thunderous force.
Unfortunately, this Fatty's resolve crumbled too quickly. Before I could utter another harsh word, he let out a grunt and fainted cleanly.
Damn, looks like I'll have to ask another guard.
Just as I shifted my gaze to the other three guards, a deep male voice came through the walkie-talkie on Fatty's shoulder: "Fatty, Fatty, do you copy?"
Kong Xuan's eyes lit up as he took the walkie-talkie: "Captain, captain, calling captain."
"Captain, captain, calling captain."
Huh? I actually heard an echo.
Immediately after that, footsteps approached from the direction of what seemed to be the echo. Four or five burly men rushed over with Glue Sticks in hand. Leading them was a black-faced man whose face looked like a pot bottom from afar. He held an iron rod in his right hand and a walkie-talkie in his left. The echo I heard earlier was just coming from his walkie-talkie.
"Who are you?" The Black-Faced Man slowed down when he was about five meters away from me and asked loudly. As he raised his iron rod, the four men behind him also slowed their pace.
"Are you the security captain?" I asked loudly.
"Yes!" The Black-Faced Man and his companions stopped less than two meters away from me. "Who exactly are you? What do you mean by causing a disturbance here? I've already called the police, so you might as well wait for them to arrive. Otherwise, we have armed police here."
Armed police?
Right, the guards at the Underground Vault must be armed police; the security personnel are only responsible for maintaining order outside. With that thought, I stepped forward, my movements swift as lightning, and grabbed the Black-Faced Man by the shoulder. He was taken aback and shouted to his subordinates, "Li, Zhou! You two immediately..."
Before he could finish, I used my other hand to grip his throat. At this moment, there was no time to waste. Leaning close to his ear, I whispered, "I am a police officer. The Underground Vault may have already been robbed. You need to contact the armed police guarding the vault immediately. Do you understand?"
The Black-Faced Man's expression changed dramatically. After a moment, he nodded with difficulty, and I finally released my grip on his neck. He rubbed his throat and waved his hand to his subordinates, saying, "You all step aside for now; I have something to attend to!"
After instructing his subordinates to help the fallen security personnel up, the Black-Faced Man led us into an elevator. Once inside, he pulled out a magnetic card from his pocket and swiped it over the sensor area. After a soft beep from the sensor, he pressed the button for level -1.
Exchanging glances with Kong Xuan, I quickly realized that this elevator was likely a dedicated lift for transporting gold in and out since there were no other floors on the button panel—only 1 and -1.
When the elevator reached level -1, the Black-Faced Man stepped out. Before me was a thirty-meter-long corridor, three meters high and two meters wide, with an arched structure made entirely of large blocks of bluestone that looked exceptionally sturdy.
At one end of the corridor was an alloy barrier about as thick as a wrist, while at the other end stood a gleaming alloy gate. Behind the gate stood two armed police officers. Upon seeing the Black-Faced Man, one of them—a Square-Faced Armed Police—slightly furrowed his brow and asked, "Liu Donghui, what are you doing here?"
