Zhong Kui's Diary
"What place have you saved us?" I asked with a cold smile.
"The bomb..." the Black-Clad Youth retracted the Light Screen, one hand on his chest and the other on his knee, breathing heavily.
A bomb? Starting from the first bomb, the one in the trash can at the entrance of Chaoyang City, the bomb on Star River Fifth Bridge, the bomb at He Park's gate, the bomb in the sewer on Jinshan Road, and the bomb in Jigong Mountain Tunnel, all these bombs had already exploded. It seemed unrelated to any act of saving.
The Black-Clad Youth took a deep breath: "You remember the bomb on Ray Yu, right?"
I frowned and nodded: "Wasn't that just a fake bomb? What does it have to do with you?"
The Black-Clad Youth sneered: "If I hadn't turned it into a fake bomb, you two would have been dead long ago."
I exchanged glances with Kong Xuan, both of us unable to hide our astonishment.
When we rescued Ray Yu, that bomb expert had a fake bomb on him. At that time, I found it hard to believe that Mr. Qian could be so ruthless as to place a fake bomb on Ray Yu.
Afterward, Kong Xuan and I analyzed it; the only plausible explanation was that Mr. Qian suddenly had a change of heart and didn't want to harm so many lives.
After hearing about this Timed Bomb's miraculous nature from Lu Yao, I had a vague suspicion. Could it be that the bomb on Ray Yu malfunctioned and turned from a real bomb into a fake one? Because when Mr. Qian was talking to us from the underground vault, he seemed very surprised that we had found Ray Yu; it was as if it was a miracle that we weren't blown up.
Now that the Black-Clad Youth mentioned this, it could clarify those doubts. He was the one who turned the real bomb on Ray Yu into a fake one.
Clearing my throat, I frowned and asked: "So what do you mean by doing this?"
"That building has over a hundred households living in it; I don't want to commit such a great sin," the Black-Clad Youth raised an eyebrow and walked to a certain spot on the wall, pressing a switch. Suddenly, the room was filled with light: "Ultimately, my relationship with Mr. Qian is merely one of cooperation; I'm just using his power to find the Dragon Palace Descendant."
"What descendant are you talking about?" I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
"The Dragon Palace Descendant," the Black-Clad Youth said slowly.
"Dragon Palace Descendant?"
I was stunned for two seconds before saying, "You can't be referring to something like the East Sea Dragon King or Sea Dragon King, right?"
The Black-Clad Youth scoffed, "What East Sea Dragon King or Sea Dragon King? That’s just a fabricated myth, it doesn’t exist at all!"
Just as I breathed a sigh of relief, the Black-Clad Youth continued, "There is only one Dragon King, and that is the Sea Dragon King."
I couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time. "Come on, can you not make such grand claims? What exactly is this Dragon Palace Descendant? I once watched a show called 'Dragon Man,' is it something like that?"
The Black-Clad Youth raised his head, and the wild boar that had been swirling above him transformed into a white mist that entered between his eyebrows. Shaking his head, he said, "To put it simply, the Dragon King left a descendant in the human world who now wants to find his way back."
"Uh, that really is simple," I chuckled, then shifted the topic. "It seems you can cast spells too. I wonder if you've heard of Yazhi? He’s one of the current Seven Great Masters and is a descendant of dragons. You’re not looking for him, are you?"
"Yazhi? That’s an Ancient Divine Beast. My family’s Dragon King is just an ordinary cultivator; he’s not even on the same level. How could he possibly be related?" The Black-Clad Youth looked somewhat embarrassed. "The lineage of the Sea Dragon King has been passed down for generations, and due to their constitution, all Dragon Kings can only reach the Master level and cannot surpass mid-Master."
Kong Xuan smirked, "Don't be so modest; your level is at least high Master. You're just a wall away from Grandmaster."
The Black-Clad Youth laughed heartily, "I’m just a servant under the Dragon King; I can’t be considered part of his lineage. By the way, I know you’re called Zhong Zhengnan and Kong Xuan, but you don’t know my name yet. My apologies; here’s my business card."
As he spoke, the Black-Clad Youth pulled out a crumpled piece of cardstock from his pocket. Upon receiving it and taking a look, I was taken aback.
The cardstock was about the size of a business card. On the left side, there was a crooked drawing of a snake made with a ballpoint pen. The snake had two branches sticking out of its head, and next to it was an arrow pointing at the snake with the word "Dragon" written on it.
Oh, so this snake with branches on its head is actually a dragon; without the label, I really wouldn't have been able to tell.
On the upper right side of the cardstock was written: Global Marine Biology Development Co., Ltd., followed by another line stating Development Department Director (also serving as Security Captain). Below that were two large characters: Zhuo... what was it again? The second character seemed to be written incorrectly; it was scribbled over with a blue-black blob, and above that blob was marked with pinyin—ei.
Zhuo ei? I whispered softly before exclaiming, "You are Zhuo Wei?"
The Black-Clad Youth looked at me with some surprise. "You've heard of me? That's great, I didn't know I was so famous! Hahaha."
I chuckled in disbelief. "When we were in the Underground Vault, Mr. Qian wanted you to kill us. That's how I knew about you. By the way, weren't you supposed to be nearby at that time?"
The Black-Clad Youth let out a sound of realization, his expression slightly annoyed. He cleared his throat and said, "I had already left by the time you opened the Alloy Gate and entered the control room. Let me reiterate, my relationship with Mr. Qian is purely a cooperative one; I'm not his subordinate. Since the situation has been exposed, even if I were to eliminate both of you, it wouldn't change anything. Besides, I can't defeat you."
"You know you can't win, yet you were so desperate just now," Kong Xuan scoffed.
"How was I supposed to know you two were that strong?" Zhuo Wei rolled his eyes.
"Isn't it true that back in the underground vault, you were the one who knocked out the armed police in the control room and then used the intercom to assist Mr. Qian with communication?" I asked.
"Yes," Zhuo Wei raised an eyebrow. "According to Mr. Qian's plan, there was no way for you to appear in the Underground Vault because at that time, you should have been killed by the bomb. Just to remind you, I saved both of you; I'm your benefactor."
"Your mindset of seeking repayment for kindness is quite cliché, you know?" I laughed. After seeing Zhuo Wei's 'innocent' business card, I no longer held any hostility towards him. I changed the subject again: "So why do you want to cooperate with Mr. Qian? Can he help you find the Dragon Palace Descendant?"
"Because the Dragon Palace Descendant has excellent swimming abilities; I can only observe their instinctive reactions in water. Mr. Qian has a piece of high-tech equipment called Phantom Claw that can drag people into the water, allowing me to determine whether they are Dragon Palace Descendants based on their instinctive reactions." Zhuo Wei scratched his head. "To be honest, all I know is that the Dragon Palace Descendant is in Star City and lives quite well; beyond that, I have no other clues."
"So you're targeting these wealthy heirs? Even going so far as to not spare their nannies?" I scoffed. I had always wondered why Mr. Qian targeted these children before dragging them into the water; it turned out there was such a reason behind it.
"That was all Du Jun Cai's doing; I was just observing," Zhuo Wei chuckled awkwardly.
"Who is Du Jun Cai?" I asked in surprise.
"You've seen him—the middle-aged fatty with a black mole at the corner of his mouth; that's Qian Housheng," Zhuo Wei replied.
Kong Xuan snorted coldly. "One thing I find strange is that you're supposed to be a retainer of the Sea Dragon King, right? Your swimming skills must be decent too. Why don't you drag people into the water yourself and instead rely on Mr. Qian's Phantom Claw?"
Zhuo Wei smiled wryly. "You know I'm a retainer; it's a group with very little human rights. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry... Sorry, I accidentally revealed my true feelings there. Just think about it: if this young master regains his identity and finds out it was me who dragged him into the water, he definitely won't let me wear shoes in the future."
"That's how it is," I nodded sympathetically. "However, among the children you targeted, the older ones are already in college, and the youngest is only twelve or thirteen years old. Even if your Dragon King can't remember the exact date, is it really possible for so many years to have passed?"
"You wouldn't know this, but dragons and humans are two different life forms. After a certain point, various situations can arise. It's possible for a dragon to be pregnant for just three to five months before giving birth, or it could take seven to eight years. Don't look at me so surprised; in the last six months of pregnancy, a dragon's belly looks no different from that of a human," Zhuo Wei said with a smile. Soon, his smile turned into a bitter grin. "To be honest, I not only don't know the specific age but also whether the Dragon Palace Descendant is male or female."
"How strange! Then who told you that this descendant is living well in Star City?" I asked in astonishment.
"I don't know about that. It seems the Dragon King consulted some experts who used a crystal ball or similar tools to find out," Zhuo Wei scratched his head.
After pondering for a while and going through Zhuo Wei's reasoning, although it was somewhat bizarre, it was coherent and didn't seem fabricated. I opened my eyes and smiled. "Now there's only one last question."
Zhuo Wei was taken aback. "Do you want to ask me which company has the best Excavator technology?"
I laughed and scolded him, "Damn it, why do you learn such things so quickly? What I want to ask is, who exactly is Mr. Qian?"
Zhuo Wei frowned. "I still need his help to find the Dragon Palace Descendant. If I expose him, you will definitely kill him. How am I supposed to complete my mission then? You should know that this Dragon Palace Descendant is the apple of our Dragon King's eye..."
"Come on, spare me the nonsense about being precious. If it weren't for a sudden impulse, you'd probably forget that such a descendant exists in the human world," I said disdainfully.
