Zhong Kui's Diary
Rayue stomped her foot and pouted, "Fine, just wait a moment. I need to talk to my uncle about something."
After that, she dragged me aside and tilted her head at me, saying, "You must not tell my dad about me spending the night with my boyfriend!"
I really wanted to ask her if her boyfriend was well-endowed, but then I thought better of it; that seemed a bit too much for her. So I stretched out my thumb and index finger, rubbed them together in front of Rayue, and chuckled, "What do I get out of this?"
Rayue pondered for a moment and pulled out a piece of yellow paper from her pocket, which had red runes on it. "At worst, I'll give you this Paralysis Charm."
I laughed heartily and took the Paralysis Charm without hesitation. It wasn't that I was greedy for the child's item; it was just that such things should be kept away from kids as much as possible. I then asked her if she had any more, to which Rayue huffed and replied that this was the last one before turning and running away.
Playing with the charm in my hand, I took the elevator down to the first floor and found room 115. When I knocked on the door, I discovered it was slightly ajar. A gentle push opened it, and suddenly a figure dashed toward me like lightning.
Startled, I instinctively raised my hand to block it. Since I was holding the charm at that moment, my action accidentally tore it apart. A flash of red light erupted, freezing the figure in place.
Damn, that almost scared me to death.
I stepped back and examined the figure, realizing it was a young man with a delicate face who looked like a college student.
I turned around and closed the door behind me, ignoring him for now as I shouted, "Yun Zhihan, what do you mean by this?"
There was no response from inside the room, which felt off. With Thunderous Strike in my left hand and Wildfire in my right, I cautiously walked toward the bedroom.
This was a suite; the living room was outside while the bedroom was inside. The living room was empty with no signs of anything unusual. What on earth was Yun Zhihan up to?
The bedroom door was also ajar. Pushing it open revealed Yun Zhihan lying on the bed, his face pale and eyes wide open in shock and disbelief. There was a bagua symbol burned into his chest as if seared by a branding iron. From the holes in his burnt clothes, it could be seen that this symbol had sunk more than an inch into his flesh.
It was clear that Yun Zhihan was dead, and judging by the bagua pattern on his chest, the one responsible was Mr. Huang.
A sudden shock hit me. Could this person at the door be Mr. Huang? If so, it would be an unexpected opportunity. I hurried to the door and looked at the young man with a delicate face, pondering whether I should strike him down with lightning while he was incapacitated or burn him with a fireball.
Uh, that seemed a bit cruel. How about I just use a dagger to cut off his head?
After thinking it over for a while, I ultimately couldn't bring myself to do it. What if this person was innocent?
But if I didn't act, I felt uneasy. What if this person really was Mr. Huang?
If he truly was Mr. Huang, once the five minutes of paralysis were over, I would be no match for him.
Such an opportunity didn't come by often.
After some thought, I took out the Icebound Expanse's Mysterious Realm Golden Sphere and entered it with a thought, calling out loudly for Ice Stick.
"What’s up?" Ice Stick's voice responded instantly.
"Is there any way to determine if the other person is human or a Demon?" I asked.
"I don't know about those things," Ice Stick replied, cutting off all my thoughts with one sentence.
"Hey, before you entered this Mystical Realm, didn't you claim to be knowledgeable about everything?" I shouted anxiously.
"I'm knowledgeable about many things, but not everything; there are bound to be things I don't know," Ice Stick laughed and said. "Besides, you should ask your companions about this; they are from Spell families and must have a way."
"I naturally know, but there isn't enough time now. It takes time to make a phone call to them, what if the five-minute paralysis deadline passes?" I said gloomily.
"I see. I do have a way to test magical power, but it hasn't been verified, so I don't know if it will work," Ice Stick said with a smile.
"What method? Let me hear it first," I replied, feeling a bit excited.
"Don't you know Thunder Elemental Magic's Nine Divine Thunder? You can compress Nine Divine Thunder to your fingertip and then poke this person's palm. If he can use Spell, even if you have paralyzed him, his palm will still contain some magical power. When you poke it, the magical power will instinctively protect the palm. In other words, if the palm isn't scorched, he can use Spell. If it is scorched, then he's an ordinary person." Ice Stick chuckled, "But this test is only theoretically feasible."
"Who cares? Let's try it first," I said as I returned to my room. I gathered Spell, but found that I couldn't compress Spell at all. With a wry smile, I had no choice but to go back to the Mystical Realm and ask Ice Stick to teach me Spell.
After Ice Stick taught me Spell, I suddenly thought of a question and casually asked, "Since you can teach me Spell, why not just teach me all your ice-type ultimate moves?"
"What I'm teaching you now is a universal Spell. It doesn't belong to Thunder Element Fire Element, while absolute zero and other Spell are ice-type Spell that require corresponding magical power to drive them. For example, Thunderous Strike needs Lightning Magic, and Wildfire requires Fire Elemental Magic. The reason you can use both Thunder Element Fire Elemental Spells is that you have fused with the Thunder God and Firebird's Mystical Realm, thus possessing the corresponding magical power. For us single-element Spell, just telling you about the Spell is useless; you must use the corresponding magical power to drive it," Ice Stick explained in detail.
I chuckled, "So that's how it is."
Ice Stick sighed and said helplessly, "I don't know when you'll be able to fuse with my Mystical Realm... I really want to become a Rich Handsome Guy like Ximen Qing, bringing along three or five servants, standing at the village road at sunset, seeing a village girl with a bulging chest swaying her hips..."
Listening further would lead into inappropriate territory. I quickly returned to my room, gathered Spell, and charged a pencil-sized silver lightning on my middle finger before poking the young man's left palm.
With a sizzling sound, the young man's palm was instantly scorched by my lightning, smoke swirling as a meaty aroma wafted through the air.
Uh-oh, being scorched means his palm didn't accumulate any magical power; this person is undoubtedly an ordinary person.
I sheepishly withdrew Spell. After about seven or eight seconds, the young man suddenly let out a piercing scream. The sound was like that of a strong man being dragged into a cornfield by twenty farmers—uh, no, it should be like being dragged into a cornfield by twenty strong men; otherwise, how could he scream so tragically?
The young man shot me a furious glare, but he didn't have time to curse at me. He placed his palm over his mouth and blew air repeatedly before turning and rushing into the bathroom. Suddenly, the sound of rushing water and the young man's continuous wailing echoed from inside.
After a while, the young man burst back into the room, found a piece of tissue at the bar counter in the living room, and wrapped his palm layer by layer. He glared at me angrily and said, "Who are you? Why did you make my hand like this?"
I chuckled lightly, "And who are you? Why did you come out of my friend's room?"
"I... I'm Hotel Staff," the young man stammered.
Seeing him like this, I couldn't be bothered to argue with him. I pulled out a dagger and pressed it against his neck, sternly asking, "Did you kill my friend?"
This was just a bluff; with his skills, there was no way he could have killed Yun Zhihan. After all, Yun Zhihan was a Grandmaster-level Expert. Even if there were ten thousand of this young man, they wouldn't stand a chance against Yun Zhihan.
The young man's face changed dramatically. "N-no... it has nothing to do with me! I just saw the door was open and wanted to steal something."
I continued to intimidate him for a bit longer, and he became even more flustered. He loudly claimed to be Shen Sipan, a petty thief who had been on the run. Upon entering, he saw Yun Zhihan's body lying by the bed. Although he was scared, being a thief meant he couldn't afford to hesitate; he rummaged through everything, hoping to find something valuable to take before leaving Star City.
"Did you find anything?" I casually asked.
"N-no..." Shen Sipan's gaze darted around nervously.
I grew suspicious and adjusted the dagger in my hand. Shen Sipan immediately shouted, "I found something! A jade pendant! I pulled it off this person's neck!"
He then fished out a jade pendant from his pocket and handed it to me. As I held it in my hand, I realized that this pendant was a Spatial Bag. It had more space than my Mustard Seed Pendant but was filled with items. It seemed that all the treasures Yun Zhihan had collected over the years were hidden inside.
"Alright then, the police will be coming soon; just give a statement," I said with a smile as I retracted the dagger and motioned for Shen Sipan to sit down. I took out my phone to call Lingfeng.
Half an hour later, Lingfeng personally led a team over. I was somewhat surprised and pulled him aside to whisper, "Aren't you the Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee? Why are you still handling these matters?"
Lingfeng had a bitter smile on his face. "Damn, for cases involving Demons, I never thought about solving them; I just want to suppress the issue."
Laughing lightly, I pointed at Shen Sipan. "This one is a habitual thief; I'll leave him to you."
After chatting for a few moments, I left the Great China Hotel.
Once home, the first thing I did was search for Yun Zhihan's jade pendant.
It was evident that Yun Zhihan had a bit of obsessive-compulsive disorder; his jade pendant was organized neatly, almost like a warehouse. Inside were about ten large cabinets, each labeled with different categories: one for clothes, one for snacks, one for magical tools—everything was categorized clearly and easily understood.
Because it was so well-organized, I only spent about ten minutes searching through the space in the pendant and found no trace of the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin. Moreover, the cabinet for magical tools was completely empty. I couldn't help but smile wryly; clearly, Mr. Huang had searched Yun Zhihan's Spatial Bag after killing him, taking not only the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin but also those magical tools.
Just as I was about to exit, my gaze swept over the magical tool cabinet. In the second compartment of the cabinet, I saw a flat box resting on top.
The color of the box was quite similar to that of the cabinet, so I hadn't noticed it at first. Additionally, the box looked very worn out, seemingly made from some kind of animal leather. Curiosity piqued, I bent down to take out the box and opened it. Inside was a book that shimmered with golden light, as if it were woven from golden threads. The cover had five large characters on it.
