Zhong Kui's Diary
"Stop it!" Kong Xuan became anxious upon hearing this. "I saw you trying to grab the Book of Life and Death, and I was already trying to stop you. How could I possibly want you to go after it?"
"Damn it, I’m not blaming you! Why are you denying it?" I shouted angrily. "It was clearly you who told me to go after the Book of Life and Death."
"Zheng Nan, you should let it go. I was right beside you and did not hear Kong Xuan tell you to grab the Book of Life and Death," Qingcheng interjected, raising a hand to interrupt our argument. Looking around, she frowned and said, "It's possible someone nearby used a Spell to make you hear things. If that's the case, this person's power is far beyond ours, which is why we didn't notice them."
With Qingcheng's analysis, both Kong Xuan and I fell silent. It was very likely that someone had indeed used a Spell to frame me. The three of us exchanged glances, wondering who could be using a Spell nearby.
"That's right, that's right! The young lady is quite clever; you've figured it out." Suddenly, an Ancient Voice echoed in the air.
This voice sounded somewhat familiar; it must be the old man who called me to retrieve the Yao Guang Breaking Army Scroll.
As I watched the ripples in the air, I thought to myself that this old man was about to reveal himself. Who could he be?
Soon, a figure appeared in the air—it was Jiang Feiyu, or rather, Mr. Huang.
"What are you doing here?" I exclaimed in surprise.
"Didn’t expect this? Unfortunately, I'm not fond of speaking in English; otherwise, I would shout... surprise!" Mr. Huang grinned at me.
"What do you want from me?" I asked with a wry smile.
Even if I hadn't lost my powers, I wouldn't stand a chance against Mr. Huang. Now that I couldn't cast any Spells, relying solely on Qingcheng and Kong Xuan would be like an ant trying to stop a chariot.
Could it be that Mr. Huang deliberately set me up to drain my powers? This thought crossed my mind, but I quickly dismissed it. I wasn't his match; he had no need to go through such trouble.
My mind was in a state of confusion, completely unaware of what Mr. Huang meant.
Mr. Huang looked at me with a grin, then glanced at Qingcheng and Kong Xuan, chuckling, "You two shouldn't even think about attacking me. To put it bluntly, your little bit of magic wouldn't even be enough to tickle me."
Kong Xuan and Qingcheng exchanged glances, and it was clear they both felt a bit defiant.
"Yo Xue, are you still not convinced? If you're not convinced, feel free to give it a try," Mr. Huang said, crossing his arms and looking at them with disdain. "Come on, I'm giving you the chance; I'll stand here and let you unleash your big moves!"
Without hesitation, Kong Xuan waved his hand and sent a red energy ball flying toward him. I had lost count of how many times I had seen Kong Xuan unleash such energy balls; I knew their power was formidable. Being hit by one was like being struck by a train.
Mr. Huang raised an eyebrow and let out a cold laugh, casually blowing toward the red energy ball. What happened next was astonishing: the energy ball burst in mid-air with a pop, as if it were a bubble blown by a child. All the energy contained within vanished, as if Kong Xuan's attack were merely an illusion.
Kong Xuan's expression changed, standing there in shock.
Mr. Huang tilted his chin toward Qingcheng: "Come on, don't be shy; you try too."
Having already drawn his wooden sword, Qingcheng hesitated for a moment after seeing how easily Mr. Huang had dispelled Kong Xuan's Spell. Finally, he sighed and shook his head with a wry smile: "Forget it, I won't try."
Mr. Huang laughed heartily: "Just give it a shot; who knows, I might be at my last gasp!"
At that moment, while Mr. Huang was laughing heartily, Qingcheng struck like lightning, thrusting his sword forward. Although he was still over three meters away from Mr. Huang, the tip of his sword emitted a silver light that shot straight toward Mr. Huang's throat.
Well done, Qingcheng, your timing was impeccable.
Mr. Huang, caught up in his laughter, seemed completely oblivious to the danger. Just as the sword light was about to strike his throat, he casually waved his hand as if swatting away a mosquito, effortlessly knocking the sword light to the ground where it bounced several times as if it were merely a child's ball.
This left us dumbfounded; if Mr. Huang had shattered the sword light with a single blow, we wouldn't have been so surprised. But to swat it down like a bouncing ball was utterly unbelievable. It should be noted that this sword light was merely an illusory object formed by condensed magic; upon contact with its target, the magic would dissipate, causing its shape to vanish into thin air.
This is simply unbelievable.
Seemingly enjoying our astonished expressions, Mr. Huang slammed the sword light onto the ground, snorted coldly, and stepped on it with his foot. The sword light struggled and twisted beneath his foot as if it were alive, even emitting a sound that made one’s teeth ache.
Clearly, when Mr. Huang struck the sword light with his hand, he had already taken control of it.
This Mr. Huang possesses truly unfathomable magical power.
With a twist of his toes, the sword light vanished with a pop. Looking at Kong Xiao and the other person, he said ominously, "Do you want to try again?"
Both of them smiled wryly and shook their heads without speaking, standing beside me on either side. The implication was clear: no matter how impressive Mr. Huang was, they were willing to face him alongside me.
"Zheng Nan, I have to say, you have a good girlfriend and a good buddy!" Mr. Huang paused for a moment upon seeing this, then smiled.
"Not bad," I raised an eyebrow and replied, "But you still haven't told me what you mean by all this."
"No rush, no rush. You should first give me the last Yin-Yang Ancient Coin!" Mr. Huang chuckled.
"What?" I was taken aback but kept my expression neutral. To appear more innocent, I frowned and looked confused. "Mr. Huang, I've already given you all my Yin-Yang Ancient Coins."
"Zheng Nan, that's not very interesting. I've set up a magic array on you; as long as there's a fluctuation of Yin-Yang Ancient Coin on you, I'll receive a signal. You obtained a Yin-Yang Ancient Coin on the top floor of Sky Building, right?" Mr. Huang raised his eyebrows smugly.
"Impossible! If there was a magic array on me, how could I not notice it?" I said in frustration.
"Sorry, I didn't express myself clearly. I've set up the magic array on something of yours," Mr. Huang grinned and pointed at the box containing the Zhuangyaoguang Breaking Army Scroll on the ground. "My magic array is inside that kind of box."
"Nonsense!" I scoffed coldly. I had only received that box earlier in the afternoon; how could it possibly detect something from months ago?
"Please pay attention to my wording; this is the kind of box I have, not that one." Mr. Huang smiled slightly.
This kind of box? Could it be that he is referring to other boxes containing the Book of Life and Death?
I was taken aback and reached into the Mustard Seed Pendant to rummage around, finding two identical boxes. One box was given to me by Jin Manyuan, while the other was given to me by Tang the Elder.
Could it be that these two boxes contain a magic array?
I handed the boxes to Qingcheng. After feeling them for a moment, she pointed to one of the boxes, nodded, and said softly, "There is a magic array inside this one, similar to the functions of the All-Seeing Eye and Wind Listener."
Damn, these two boxes look exactly the same. I couldn't remember which one was given by Jin Manyuan and which one by Tang the Elder.
Could this Mr. Huang be Tang the Elder? There’s no other possibility. As for Jin Manyuan, don’t joke around; he has been dead for over two years.
Mr. Huang snorted coldly, interrupting my thoughts: "Zheng Nan, I don't want to kill you right now. Hand over the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin quickly, or I will kill this girl! And this lecherous man with a beard."
Damn, this situation is a bit strange.
Since Mr. Huang knew from the start that I had the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin, why didn't he take it earlier? Why wait until now? And why doesn't he want to kill me? I don't believe he has any compassion; for someone like Mr. Huang, if necessary, he wouldn’t hesitate to kill me countless times without batting an eye.
What is his true intention?
"Zheng Nan, actually, I could easily kill you first and then search for the Yin-Yang Ancient Coin!" Mr. Huang looked at me sideways with a sneer: "Even if your powers are still intact, you three are no match for me."
Although this statement was not very pleasant to hear, it was indeed true. I forced a smile and took out the last Yin-Yang Ancient Coin: "I just want to know who you really are and why you are doing this."
Mr. Huang extended his palm and looked at me with a cold smile: "Hand it over first!"
I placed the Yin Yang Ancient Coin in his hand, and a flash of intense emotion crossed Mr. Huang's eyes. After carefully putting away the coin, he laughed heartily, "Zheng Nan, I told you, it's the box that's the problem. You only have two boxes on you; can't you guess who I am?"
"You are... Tang the Elder?" I hesitated for a moment and frowned.
"Guess again!" Mr. Huang laughed loudly.
"You are..." A thought suddenly struck me. Even though I knew this idea was absurd, I couldn't help but blurt it out: "You are Jin Manyuan?"
"Absolutely correct!" Mr. Huang laughed heartily and wiped his face with his hand. With silver hair and white beard, his eyes sparkled brightly—who else could it be but Jin Manyuan?
I shouted, "This is impossible! Didn't you already die?"
"Did you see me die with your own eyes?" Jin Manyuan continued to laugh, but his laughter was filled with mockery.
"You... you... Damn, weren't you tired of the mortal world? Didn't you want to die?" I couldn't help but curse.
"I just said it casually, and you actually believed it. Sigh, Zheng Nan, your emotional intelligence is really low!" The sarcasm at the corners of Jin Manyuan's mouth deepened.
"You're a liar, you fraud!" I felt like I was going crazy, shouting like the female protagonist in a Qiong Yao drama.
"The whole world is deceiving people; I just don't want to be different," Jin Manyuan mocked. "Actually, I haven't really deceived you; at least, I didn't lie about the Book of Life and Death."
"Then why are you doing this?" A thought flashed through my mind. The plaque taken from Turtle Chancellor's neck was originally Jin Manyuan's; he must have several such plaques. Damn, with such a large character on it, who else could it be?
"Because you are Yin-Yang Physique," Jin Manyuan said with a glint in his eyes. "Only someone with Yin-Yang Physique can merge with the Seven Pages of Life and Death Manual and enter the Hall of Life and Death to modify the Book of Life and Death."
"Nonsense! Aren't you Yin-Yang Physique yourself? Why do you need me to do these things?" I shouted loudly.
"Zheng Nan, let me ask you this: if you were the Judgment of Life and Death, which has always dominated alone, and suddenly discovered that someone was about to stand on equal footing with you, would you kill that person before they became a threat?" Jin Manyuan shifted the conversation with a strange question.
"…"
"You would! Similarly, the Judgment of Life and Death would too!" Jin Manyuan sneered. "So, as soon as I start absorbing the energy of the Earthly Sun God, the Judgment of Life and Death will notice immediately. Then it will come after me and try to kill me."
It would be best if it did! I thought to myself.
"Do you know why I don't kill you? Because I need you to summon the Judgment of Life and Death to modify the Book of Life and Death. Modifying the Book of Life and Death is no simple task; once it is modified, its magical power will be depleted. This depletion will last for three cycles, meaning during these three cycles, its power will drop to Grandmaster Level." Jin Manyuan's eyes glinted coldly. "Only at that moment can I take the opportunity to absorb the Sun God's energy. Even if it discovers me, it won't be able to do anything."
So that's how it is!
Jin Manyuan had been plotting this for a long time. It seems he had already planned this out, giving me The Scroll of the Greedy Wolf and even finding the Yao Guang Breaking Army Scroll to send to me. He wanted me to summon the Judgment of Life and Death to modify the Book of Life and Death so that when its power decreased, he could absorb the Sun God's energy.
I sneered, "Do you think after knowing this answer, I would still help you with this? Earlier, you wanted my Yin Yang Ancient Coin because you could kill me and take it. I had no choice but to agree. But for summoning the Judgment of Life and Death, if I refuse, how can you force me to do it?"
"Aren't you worried that I would slaughter humanity after absorbing the Sun God's energy? Now I promise you that I won't do such a thing," Jin Manyuan said with a cunning smile, knowing that this was something I cared about.
"I don't believe a word you say." I scoffed at his words. "I won't agree."
"You will," Jin Manyuan said with a meaningful smile.
"On what basis are you so sure?" I had a bad feeling.
"Because I have hostages," Jin Manyuan said, pointing at Qingcheng and Kong Xuan.
This is just despicable!
"And I know all your friends and family. Guo'er is in Star City, right? Lingfeng and Li Xinyan, along with their children, are in Star City, right? Fatty and An Ran, along with their children, are also in Star City, right? It seems like your parents live in Star City too, right? Zheng Nan, as a human, you have too many flaws for me to exploit." Jin Manyuan squinted at me, a murderous glint in his eyes.
"Damn, I can't go on like this."
"Shit!" I cursed angrily. "Alright, you win. What do I need to do to enter the Hall of Life and Death and how can I summon the Judgment of Life and Death?"
"The first thing you need to do is borrow that Spatial Portal from Ji Wuyuan." Jin Manyuan nodded calmly, as if he expected this answer.
"Why?"
"Because the Book of Life and Death has already merged with your body, and you no longer have any magical power. But don't get too excited; this is only temporary." Jin Manyuan raised an eyebrow and smiled. "I will teach you a Spell and then tell you seven locations. Each location has a keyhole for the Book of Life and Death, inside which there is a formation waiting to be activated. Once you arrive, use the Spell to extract the corresponding Book of Life and Death from within you, place it into the keyhole to activate the formation, then move on to the next location until all seven formations are activated. At that point, the Hall of Life and Death will naturally appear."
"I want to ask how this relates to the Spatial Portal," I said, somewhat puzzled.
"Because once you activate the first formation, you must activate the remaining six formations within twelve hours. Otherwise, the formations will become invalid." Jin Manyuan said solemnly. "However, these seven locations are located in seven different provinces."
"Twelve hours? Uh, that's four hours each; so I have to travel through seven different provinces in one night?" I chuckled bitterly and shook my head. It seemed that aside from borrowing the Spatial Portal from Ji Wuyuan, there was no other way.
"Yes, seven different provinces," Jin Manyuan repeated.
"Alright, I'll go borrow the Spatial Portal from Ji Wuyuan. Putting that aside for now, once I enter the Hall of Life and Death, how should I summon the Judgment of Life and Death?" I licked my slightly dry lips.
"Once you're in the Hall of Life and Death, the rest will be very simple." Jin Manyuan chuckled lightly. "Have you ever played an Online Game? Once you enter, there will be voice prompts telling you what to do. Just follow the prompts, and you'll soon see the Judgment of Life and Death."
"Okay then, you can tell me the Spell and those seven locations now."
"The Spell is simple: place your hand on the keyhole and silently chant 'Om Motan Doran Shain.' A corresponding Book of Life and Death will form from your palm; it will emit a dazzling white light when it forms—this is normal, so there's no need to panic. Once the Book of Life and Death has formed, it will automatically enter the keyhole, activating the formation." Jin Manyuan explained slowly to me, careful that I wouldn't misremember the incantation.
Massage Too much money, don't get addicted? What kind of Spell is this?
I chanted it a few times and felt a faint energy fluctuating within me, but the fluctuations were minimal. It seems that I need to find the keyhole to release the Book of Life and Death inside me.
"As for the location, add me on WeChat, and I'll tell you in detail later." Jin Manyuan suddenly smiled ominously and said, "I need to capture your girlfriend and best friend as hostages first. Additionally, Yang Guo'er, Lingfeng couple, and Fatty couple, and of course, your parents, I will also take them as hostages."
"Damn, I've already agreed, and you're still taking hostages. Is this interesting?" I shouted angrily.
"Interesting!" Jin Manyuan raised his eyebrows and smiled as he drew a spell in the air with both hands. Then, as his figure suddenly disappeared, Kong Xuan and Qingcheng beside me also vanished without a trace.
