Zhong Kui's Diary
I tossed away the cigarette butt and changed out of Shen Sipan.
Using the Iron Shovel, I dug through the layer of soil above and found the Round Metal Cover. I gripped the hole in the center and pulled hard, lifting the Metal Cover off. I set it aside and looked down; beneath the Metal Plate was a Metal Pit, with a bright green Metal Hemisphere in the center. Just like the previous magic circle, hundreds of silver Starbursts floated and danced above the hemisphere.
I placed my palm over the groove on top of the Metal Hemisphere. The Yin-Yang Energy within me slowly flowed toward my palm. Once the Yao Guang Breaking Army Scroll solidified in my hand, a pulling force attached it to the surface of the Metal Hemisphere. The bright green Breaking Army Platform rapidly turned black, and those silver light spots suddenly vanished.
I sensed that apart from my Lightning Magic, my Devouring Energy, Yin-Yang Energy, and Fire Element energy had all partially recovered. However, what surprised me was that my internal Yin-Yang Energy seemed much denser than before.
To put it another way, my internal Yin-Yang Energy, which used to be just a trickling stream, now felt as abundant as a river after activating four magic circles.
This puzzled me. Where did this excess Yin-Yang Energy come from? Could it be from the Book of Life and Death? According to Jin Manyuan's method, when I released the Book of Life and Death to activate the magic circle, there should have been a dazzling white light. Yet, I had already released four pages of the Book of Life and Death, and no white light had appeared at all. The only explanation was that the Yin-Yang Energy within the Book of Life and Death had been 'consumed' by me.
This was merely my assumption; until I found an answer, it would have to suffice.
After sealing up the Metal Cover, we both had a cigarette, summoned a portal, set our coordinates, and headed to the Emei Golden Summit. Just as I was about to push open the door, Shen Sipan said, "Boss Zhong, I'm hungry. Get something to eat!"
"Hey, didn't I just give you chocolate cookies at the Changbai Mountain Pool?" I replied in surprise, raising my hand from pushing the door and checking my watch. "It's only nine o'clock; we've only been here for half an hour."
"That stuff just makes you hungrier," Shen Sipan insisted. "I need something oily to fill me up."
Thinking about it, I couldn't help but laugh. "How about choosing between braised pork ribs or braised beef instant noodles? Or maybe just go for the braised beef; there’s actually beef in it."
"Bah! I won't eat that!" Shen Sipan exclaimed angrily as he sat down on the ground. "I want hot meals! If not, I'm going on strike!"
"Yo Xue, are you still resisting?" I pulled out a dagger.
"What, are you planning to kill me?" Shen Sipan rolled his eyes. "Why bother with a knife? Just strike me with a bolt of lightning and turn me into pieces; that would be much easier."
"You must have a persecution complex," I laughed. "Let me see if there are any animals struck by lightning around here that we can roast and eat."
Upon hearing this, Shen Sipan suddenly stood up and pointed down the dirt mound. "When we came up earlier, there seemed to be the remains of a wild wolf over there."
"Alright, let's go roast some wolf meat!"
We walked to the spot where I had previously struck a large chunk off the dirt mound with Nine Divine Thunder. Peering over, we saw that after the collapse, the slope was about forty-five degrees. This incline was nothing difficult for us. We ran down and reached the place where Shen Sipan had seen the wild wolf's remains, only to find that aside from its fur being relatively intact, the flesh was already rotten beyond recognition. Just looking at it made us want to vomit.
"How about we go to Shaolin Temple? There must be a cafeteria in the temple; we could steal something to eat," Shen Sipan suggested with a wry smile.
"The monks at Shaolin Temple are all vegetarians, okay? Do you want to sneak into their kitchen and steal some cucumbers to roast?" I frowned.
"What century are you living in? The monks at Shaolin Temple nowadays not only drive luxury cars and live in mansions but can also have wives or mistresses. As for meals, they don't skimp on that either; they serve four dishes and a soup, with three meat and two vegetarian options," Shen Sipan said passionately.
"Sounds like you've been a monk before," I looked at him suspiciously. But in my mind, I thought, regardless of whether you're telling the truth or not, I'll head to Shaolin Temple first; if there's no meat in the kitchen, it won't be my problem.
Shen Sipan said proudly, "Believe it or not, once when I went to steal the Shaolin treasure 'Yi Jin Jing', I even went undercover as a monk for a month!"
"'Yi Jin Jing'? Seriously, does that really exist? Did you manage to steal it?" I laughed as I adjusted the coordinates of the portal.
"No, I've searched the Sutra Repository thoroughly, and there is no such book... I must have been misled by someone." Shen Sipan leaned against the door frame, gazing at the starry sky at a forty-five-degree angle, letting out a deep sigh.
"Hey, aren't we supposed to eat? How did we end up talking about the Yi Jin Jing? You always like to ramble!" I laughed heartily, interrupting the conversation.
As I pushed open the teleportation portal, I was somewhat surprised. The coordinates I set should have led to the plaza outside the Main Hall, not far from that well, but now it opened into a small room.
"Damn, is this teleportation portal malfunctioning?"
Feeling extremely frustrated, I stepped out and surveyed the room. The small room was quite simple: a bed, a cabinet, a table, and four long benches. The bed had bedding on it, the table held a teapot with three teacups beside it, and there was a large cabinet standing against the wall. Other than that, there was nothing else. The only eyesore was that cabinet; it was so big that it could almost fit two big fatties inside.
The light bulb inside the room was on, and the door was slightly ajar, suggesting that the monk who lived here had just stepped out. I secretly felt fortunate; it was good luck that there was no one in this room. If we had arrived a moment earlier or later, we might have encountered the monk inside.
I signaled for Shen Sipan to come out. Just as I finished closing the teleportation portal, footsteps were heard outside, approaching this small room.
In a panic, I looked around. Shen Sipan pointed at the large cabinet. I rushed over and pulled open its door only to find it completely empty. Damn, was this cabinet meant for hiding people?
There was no time to think further; we quickly slipped inside. Just as I closed the cabinet door behind us, the outer door swung open, and it seemed two people walked in, followed by the sound of the door closing.
"Kong Jian Shixiong, shall we recite the Diamond Sutra together next?" an ancient voice rang out.
"Sure, Kongwen Junior Disciple," came another even more ancient voice in response.
Damn, what is going on? From their voices, you both sound quite old; reciting scriptures in the middle of the night with the door closed—aren't you being a bit crazy?
Suddenly, the chanting of two monks could be heard outside, buzzing like a large swarm of flies circling around.
Just as I was feeling frustrated, I heard a low laugh from outside. It was a woman's voice. At first, I thought I had misheard, but then the woman playfully said, “Master Kongwen, don’t be in such a hurry. I’m new here; you should be a bit gentler with me.”
Then, I heard that ancient voice softly say, “Shh, don’t make a sound.”
Hmm, there were clearly only two people in the room outside: one was Monk Kongwen and the other was Monk Kongjian. How did a woman suddenly appear? Moreover, wasn’t Kongwen supposed to be chanting? The chanting hadn’t paused at all while he was speaking.
What on earth was going on?
The woman chuckled softly, “Master Kongwen, didn’t you leave a recorder on the table? The sound of you and Master Kongjian chanting is so loud that no one will hear us talking inside.”
Oh, so that’s what it was. I thought I was seeing ghosts.
Kongwen's tone was somewhat displeased: “I didn’t call you here to chat. Don’t waste my time with your nonsense. Haven’t you heard that time is money? I paid fifteen hundred for you for one night. From now until five in the morning is only seven or eight hours. That means about two hundred per hour; that’s over three dollars a minute. Damn it, just talking to you has already cost me several bucks! Get undressed, hurry up!”
“Master, don’t rush!” the woman giggled sweetly. “Let’s add some romance; let me use all my skills to serve you once, okay?”
“Romance my foot!” Monk Kongwen spat. “You think one time will satisfy me? I want to go five times! By the way, don’t do it on the bed; if the bedding gets dirty, it’ll be hard to wash!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle quietly; if being a monk led to this point, he had certainly achieved his goal.
I thought the two would start undressing and get to it, but unexpectedly, Kongwen let out a muffled grunt and then I heard someone fall to the ground.
"Eh? What happened? Hearing this sound, could it be that Kongwen has passed away from excitement due to his heart condition? Come on, at your age, you shouldn't push yourself so hard, still doing five on the ground... Ugh!
My ears perked up, and I focused on the sounds outside. There were no surprised shouts from the woman, but I heard a rustling noise, as if she was searching for something on Kongwen Monk.
How strange, could it be that this Kongwen Monk was knocked out by this woman?
Then came the sound of bedding being moved. I thought to myself that this was bad; the room was small, and if this woman came in to look for something, she would definitely start rummaging through the cabinet next.
Sure enough, footsteps approached the cabinet door. I felt a wave of frustration; before I could come up with a plan, the cabinet door was pulled open.
I raised my right hand and made a peace sign. I smiled and said, "Hi! Surprise!"
I saw that the woman outside was wearing an oversized Monk Robe, and on her head was a Monk's Hat. Beneath the brim were a pair of very lively big eyes, black as jewels and crystal clear.
At that moment, those lively big eyes were looking at us in astonishment. It was no wonder; anyone would be surprised to find two men hiding in a monk's cabinet.
"Who are you two?" the woman with big eyes asked in shock."
