Zhong Kui's Diary
The force was unstoppable, and I was caught off guard. As soon as I made contact, I was knocked down by this power.
I plummeted rapidly, suddenly alarmed. This dry well was over ten meters deep; falling from such a height would be disastrous. My hands flailed wildly in the air, trying to grab the Rope hanging in the middle. Fortunately, by some stroke of luck, my left hand managed to touch the Rope.
I quickly grabbed it with my left hand, and in an instant, my palm secured the rope. I twisted my waist, thrusting my right hand forward to tightly grip the Rope. With a strong pull from both arms, my entire body leaned toward it, and I clamped my legs around the Rope. At that moment, I felt like a koala hanging onto a tree.
Just when I thought I was temporarily safe, another overwhelming force surged from above. This force seemed even more powerful and aggressive than the last!
Damn!
I gritted my teeth and swung my hands to brace myself, but this force was too immense. Upon impact, I felt a sweetness in my throat and coughed up a mouthful of blood as I fell again.
With a thud, I landed on all fours at the bottom of the well. Since I had already disturbed the mud in the middle of the dry well, this fall felt like crashing directly onto a Metal Plate.
It hurt!
It hurt like hell!
It felt as if my backside had split open; what used to be two cheeks now felt like four or eight… each piece sent waves of excruciating pain through me.
The flashlight hanging around my neck swung violently and slammed into my nose. My nose stung, and tears uncontrollably streamed down my face.
Fortunately, I had paused in mid-air for a moment; if I had fallen straight from over ten meters onto the Metal Plate, I would have either died or been severely injured.
I gritted my teeth and struggled to get up. After twisting my waist until the pain in my backside subsided a bit, I quietly gathered my Nine Divine Thunder spell and spat, then began to climb again.
As long as that force came to attack me again, I would strike back. I now had Lightning Magic within me, vast as the sea; I didn't believe it couldn't strike you down.
Just as I reached halfway up, my head bumped into something. I looked up but saw nothing, as if an invisible wall was blocking my way. I raised my flashlight and shone it upward, but it illuminated nothing; the beam shot straight out of the well, and I could even see the branches and leaves of the large tree beside the dry well.
What was going on?
I reached up and pushed hard; it felt like there was a layer of transparent rubber above. It was somewhat soft to the touch, but if I pushed harder, it felt solid inside.
I cursed under my breath and, disregarding everything else, unleashed a bolt of Nine Divine Thunder.
This bolt of Nine Divine Thunder had been adjusted by me; originally five meters wide, it had been narrowed down to the size of a bucket, yet its power had only diminished by ten percent.
With a crackling sound, the bucket-sized lightning bolt pierced through the invisible Barrier and continued through the branches and leaves of the tree outside. The branches didn’t even have time to sway before turning to ashes as the silver lightning roared past, disappearing into the distance.
What was happening? My Nine Divine Thunder actually passed right through this Barrier.
Could it be that this invisible Barrier had disappeared?
I tentatively reached up to touch it but found that the invisible Barrier was still there.
This was truly strange; my Nine Divine Thunder couldn’t seem to affect this transparent Barrier at all.
Moreover, astonishingly, this invisible Barrier began to slowly descend, quickly pressing down on my head with overwhelming and heavy pressure that was impossible to resist.
I cursed loudly and slid to the bottom of the well.
Gritting my teeth, I unleashed a series of spells: Nine Divine Thunder, Blazing Lantern, Five Thunder Strikes, Flame Dragon Killing Formation, Thunderous Strike, Wildfire... but each one of these spells vanished into thin air as they passed through the transparent barrier above me.
"Boss Zhong! What are you doing?" A hoarse voice from outside called out. It seemed the fighting had stopped: "Get up here and save me! I'm being pinned down! Damn it, he's pulling my pants off! Stop! You better stop right now! I swear I'll bite you! How can you bite someone? You beast, stop... ah..."
After Shen Sipan let out a piercing scream, there was silence outside, an eerie stillness.
"Shen Sipan!" I shouted angrily!
"Shen!"
"Pan!"
...
No matter how much I called out, there was no response from above.
What on earth was happening? Who was fighting Shen Sipan? What exactly was this invisible barrier above me, and why did my spells have no effect on it?
A series of huge question marks swirled above my head, filling me with frustration and anger, leaving me with no outlet for my rage.
I cursed again loudly and raised my right hand, preparing to cast Nine Divine Thunder once more, only to find that the invisible barrier had descended right above me.
In an instant, all my pent-up frustration and anger erupted. I let out a roar and struck the invisible barrier above with all my might.
Damn! I'll knock you out with one punch!
With a loud bang, after I threw that punch, the invisible Barrier suddenly emitted a deep Purple Light. The brilliance flashed and disappeared in an instant, but in that moment, I actually saw a vast Starry Sky within the Barrier, and even the Big Dipper Seven Stars were inside.
This feeling was incredibly mysterious. Clearly, there was a transparent Barrier only about three meters wide in front of me, but when I hit it with my punch, a vast Starry Sky appeared inside.
Immediately, I felt a surge of excitement and recalled what the Wind Rooster had said. My Divine Skill belonged to the Dual Cultivation of Magic and Martial Arts, which included both magical and physical attacks. Although I didn't know why this invisible Barrier was immune to magical attacks, physical attacks were effective against it.
Thinking of this, I gathered all my energy and shouted angrily as I threw another punch with all my might.
This punch struck the Barrier again, and the transparent Barrier flashed with purple light once more. This time, after the deep Purple Light flickered, the entire Barrier was no longer transparent but presented a light purple hue.
Within this Light Purple, I saw the vast Starry Sky again. To my astonishment, the Big Dipper Seven Stars inside were actually moving, and they were moving at a considerable speed. Originally spoon-shaped, they quickly transformed into a waveform resembling an electrocardiogram and somewhat like the character for 'mountain'.
What does this mean?
Stars kept joining this shape beside me, and soon I realized what it meant; it was forming a Middle Finger gesture.
It was mocking me! This Barrier was actually mocking me!
I exerted all my strength for another punch. I swore that not only did I use every ounce of strength I had, but I also put in all my might as if I were milking.
The color of the Light Purple Barrier faintly deepened slightly, and the downward momentum of the Barrier also stopped. However, the stars inside began to move again. This time, they formed a message within the Barrier: "Try harder!"
Does this thing have a masochistic tendency? It seems like it's getting addicted to being hit after just a few punches.
Do you think I don't want to punch you to death? Right now, I have the will but no strength; I already used all my power in that last punch, and pushing harder won't change anything.
"If you don't use your strength, I'll crush you!" The stars inside the Barrier rearranged into a few words, and then I saw the Barrier slowly starting to sink again.
Damn, this guy is definitely insane.
With a roar, I once again put all my strength into a punch aimed at the Barrier.
The color of the Barrier didn't deepen; it was as if the force of my punch hadn't exceeded that of the previous one, not enough to change its color. The Barrier only paused slightly before continuing to sink, while inside it formed a few large characters: "Not using your strength? Then go die!"
I wanted to use my hands for support but found that the weight was overwhelming. If I tried to forcefully hold it up, the only outcome would be being crushed to death with shattered bones.
I could only be pressed down slowly, and soon I was left standing with bent knees and a hunched back.
In a moment of desperation, I suddenly shouted, "Pause!"
Surprisingly, the Barrier actually stopped, and then an English word appeared in the middle: "hy?"
This guy can even use English? It almost drove me crazy. After being flustered for a while, I said, "Why do you want me to hit you with all my strength?"
"Does it matter to you?"
"I mean, if you can give me a reason, maybe I can find another way to meet your demands." I blurted out.
"Stop wasting time and think of a way to hit harder!"
The Barrier began to descend slowly again.
"Damn it! What do you want?" I couldn't help but curse.
No matter how much I swore, the Barrier continued to fall slowly but steadily. Soon, it was only fifty centimeters above the ground, leaving me with no choice but to lie on my back.
"Hey! Hey! I've thought of a way!" I shouted loudly.
As soon as I said this, the Barrier paused for a moment and displayed a few words: "What do you plan to do?"
"I... I..." My mind raced, but I had no idea what to do.
"You're not just messing with me, are you?"
"No! Absolutely not, I just don't know how to talk to you!" I naturally denied it.
The Barrier seemed to be pondering something. After a while without any movement, the stars inside floated around randomly. After about three or four minutes, the stars rearranged themselves into a message: "What was the name of that move you just used to hit me?"
"Kill You Divine Skill!" I quickly replied.
"Do you have a second move? I think that punch felt quite nice."
"Yes, yes!" I said urgently.
"Then why aren't you using it?"
"No, I don't use it, and I don't have that much energy!" I exclaimed loudly.
"Energy? What do you mean?"
"To use the kind of fist technique I just demonstrated, you need at least five different types of energy within your body to execute the first move. For the second move, you must have six different types of energy," I explained repeatedly.
"You... you only have five types of energy in your body?"
"Uh, yes!" I answered truthfully.
"What a pity. If you had the Yi Jin Jing and the Washing Marrow Classic, you could have synthesized new energy from the energy within your body. Since that's not the case, you are of no further use. Just die!"
Note: The power of Thunder Elemental Magic diminishes when compressed. This reduction varies with the diameter; the more it is compressed, the greater the decrease in power. A lightning bolt with a five-meter diameter only loses ten percent of its power when reduced to the size of a bucket, but if it is further compressed to the size of a chopstick, its power will drastically decrease by sixty percent, leaving only one-third of its original strength.
