Zhong Kui's Diary
"Old man, are you still functioning?" I joked casually, but then realized there was no need for humor with this person, so I quickly changed my tone, "Where exactly is the Wenqu Platform on Emei Golden Summit?"
"Didn't I make it clear to you on WeChat?" Jin Manyuan replied with a smile, while a woman's scoffing sound came from beside him.
Without waiting for my response, Jin Manyuan continued, "Zheng Nan, I'm more concerned about activating the formation than you are. How could I possibly mislead you?"
"What does 'the place where the Buddha light shines' mean?" I retorted angrily. "You should know that the locations of the Buddha light are all in the clouds!"
"Yes, most of the locations of the Buddha light are indeed in the clouds, but during these few days every year, the location of the Buddha light is definitely at the peak of a certain mountain!" Jin Manyuan said slowly.
"Then why not just tell me which mountain it is?" I thought to myself. Isn't that just unnecessary?
"Zheng Nan, if I could be clear about it, would I not tell you? The Buddha light does not stay fixed on one mountain. Maybe today it's on this peak, and tomorrow it moves to another one. With so many peaks opposite Emei Golden Summit, any one of them could be the location," Jin Manyuan chuckled.
"Are you joking with me? According to your logic, this formation might even move. Today the Buddha light is on this peak, and then it moves here; tomorrow it goes to that peak and follows over there?" I sneered.
To my surprise, Jin Manyuan actually laughed lightly and said, "Yes, that's exactly how it is!"
"Damn!" I cursed and hung up the phone.
"How about we go to another place first?" Shen Sipan suggested from the side.
"Why?" I frowned.
"This kind of Buddha light has an aura similar to a rainbow. Do you know how a rainbow forms? Sunlight shines on water droplets in the air, creating reflection and refraction of light to form a rainbow. Two conditions are necessary: sunlight and water droplets. The same goes for Buddha light; it usually appears in the afternoon when there's sunlight. It's midnight now; how could there possibly be any Buddha light?" Shen Sipan looked at me as if I were foolish.
"Really?" I genuinely didn't know about this.
"Really!"
Feeling a bit frustrated, I was about to summon a portal when I remembered the cooldown time of half an hour hadn't passed yet. Instead, I took out a cigarette and handed one to Shen Sipan. I lit it for myself, took a deep drag, and exhaled the smoke while gazing at the mountains below the golden peak, as if this could clear the gloom in my chest.
"Hey, why aren't you giving me a cigarette?" Song Xi pouted discontentedly beside me.
"What do you need a cigarette for? You're a girl!" I waved my hand impatiently. "Don't bother me!"
"It's one thing whether I smoke or not, but it's another whether you give me one!" Song Xi continued to pout. "By doing this, you're showing disrespect to women... You could just ask if I smoke and then I could refuse!"
Oh wow, so you think you have a point!
Forget it, I couldn't be bothered to argue. Following Song Xi's lead, I casually asked, "Oh, do you want a cigarette?"
"Sure! Yes!" Song Xi clapped her hands in excitement.
Damn it, what happened to your usual routine? Why aren't you following the script?
Just as I was about to light another cigarette, Shen Sipan suddenly exclaimed in a low voice, "Boss Zhong, look over there!"
Turning my head, I saw a round rainbow encircling a mountain peak in the distance. In the center of the rainbow, there was a shadow faintly swaying.
I immediately recalled the legends about Buddha's light and couldn't help but sway my body left and right. Sure enough, the shadow in the middle of the rainbow mirrored my movements.
This is damn unscientific; it's nighttime right now.
"Wow! Buddha's light! It's really Buddha's light!" Song Xi was also dancing around excitedly, clearly seeing her own shadow reflected in the light.
I wasn't surprised by this; Shen Sipan had explained earlier that this Buddha's light was quite mysterious. Even if ten people stood together and all saw their shadows in the light, each person would only see their own shadow. Whatever movements they made would be mirrored in the light, while they wouldn't see anyone else's actions even if those nearby were dancing wildly.
Indeed, the Buddha's light is remarkable. So, the mountain peak surrounded by this circle of light is where the magic array is located? However, in this pitch darkness, how could a rainbow possibly appear?
Thinking about it, there are too many things that cannot be explained. Two years ago, if someone had unleashed several bolts of lightning, I would have found it utterly unbelievable. But now, I can casually cast the Thunderous Spell myself... Some things simply defy explanation.
After pondering for a moment, just as I was about to find my way to the opposite mountain peak, a thought suddenly crossed my mind. I didn't rush to search for the magic array; instead, I calmly took a drag from my cigarette, exhaling smoke in a showy manner, appearing quite enigmatic.
Seeing this, Song Xi couldn't help but exclaim, "Ghost Brother, let's go! Hurry up and find the magic array on that mountain peak!"
I chuckled and asked Mengmeng, "If we rush to that mountain peak now, how long do you think it will take?"
"Looking at the mountain from here makes it seem close, but if we actually walk over there, it will take at least two hours!" Song Xi estimated.
"Not necessarily. That mountain peak is extremely steep; just climbing up will be quite troublesome!" Shen Sipan added.
"Exactly! Plus, it's nighttime now, and we're not familiar with the mountain paths," I exhaled a puff of smoke and said with a smile, "Considering all that, it will take us at least four or five hours to reach that mountain peak!"
"Then why aren't you moving? What are you standing around for?" Shen Sipan rolled his eyes.
"You two are silly! It takes four or five hours to walk over there; don't you know about using a teleportation portal? We could just zip right over!" I said proudly.
Shen Sipan and Song Xi both looked exasperated.
After the cooldown time for the teleportation portal passed, I reset the location coordinates and opened the door. Behind it was the mountaintop.
As I walked over, I pulled out my flashlight and joked, "If someone sees my flashlight right now, do you think they would think a deity has appeared?"
"Absolutely!" Song Xi got playful and snatched my flashlight. He performed a few moves in front of the beam of light and laughed, "If someone on the other side sees this, they'll think it's an extraordinary martial art—hahaha..."
The three of us joked around while carefully searching. After walking around the mountaintop once, we discovered that this mountain peak resembled a '凸' shape. The very top was almost cylindrical with sheer cliffs on all sides. We were standing on a stone platform about twenty meters in diameter.
Although the area was not large, we searched for about ten minutes before discovering the location of the magic circle.
The reason it took so long was that the mountaintop was covered in rocks, with only a three-meter diameter circular pit in the center. The pit was filled with soil, level with the surrounding rocks, and there was no vegetation in the soil. At night, it was hard to tell anything was different.
I took out the Iron Shovel, this time not handing it to Shen Sipan, and started digging myself. I had barely dug less than a foot when I heard a clink.
Continuing to scoop out the soil, after exposing the circular hole, I dropped the shovel and used my fingers to grip the edge of the hole. With a tug...
My fingers suddenly felt a sharp pain; despite pulling, I couldn't lift the Metal Cover.
This situation felt unusual.
The previous five Metal Covers were heavy but only weighed a little over two hundred pounds. With a bit of effort, I could easily lift them. However, this Metal Cover didn’t budge at all.
"What’s going on?" Shen Sipan also looked surprised.
I focused my strength at my fingertips again, hooked onto the edge of the hole, and pulled with all my might.
But still, the Metal Cover remained completely still.
What on earth is happening?
I took the flashlight from Song Xi and crouched down to examine it closely. Upon closer inspection, my scalp tingled; damn it, there were no signs of that Round Metal Cover at all. The Metal Plate beneath my feet seemed like a solid piece.
Cursing under my breath, I handed the flashlight back to Song Xi, turned around, grabbed the Iron Shovel again, and quickly began to scoop out more soil from the pit. As the clumps of dirt decreased, the area of the exposed Metal Plate increased until I had removed all the soil without finding any signs of a cover on it.
Still not giving up, I raised the shovel with all my strength and dug a few scoops into the rocks beside the circular pit. I found that the rocks were exceptionally hard; my attempts only shattered one piece of rock, and beneath it lay another shining Metal Plate.
A wave of helplessness washed over me. Damn it, could this entire mountaintop be made of Metal Plates?
"Ghost Brother, why don't you come up? I can try using a Spell," Song Xi said eagerly from the side.
Well, perhaps this is a way to see what your Song Family is capable of. I stood up and walked outside the circular pit. Just as my foot left the Metal Plate, Song Xi raised her hand and shot out a Green Light.
I was startled and quickly pulled my foot back, glaring at Song Xi. I found her excitedly manipulating her magical power, so I shifted my gaze to the magic she was controlling.
I have to admit, the Song Family's control over Spells is impressive.
This green magical power was forcefully simulated into an Excavator, which began working on the Metal Plate with loud clanking sounds. It moved up and down, poked, and rotated left and right with remarkable realism. There was even a driver in the Excavator's seat, gritting his teeth as he operated the machine.
Their control over magical power is truly something else—there are real people behind it... no, that's not right; there are real people outside of it.
However, since Song Xi's magical power was only at the early Master-Level stage, although the Excavator was impressive, it did not manage to pry up the Metal Plate.
"Why don't you try switching to a Shield Tunneling Machine?" I suggested.
"I'm afraid there's no time," Shen Sipan interjected. "The Buddha light outside seems to be fading. If it disappears, this magic circle might also vanish."
