Zhong Kui's Diary
"We're here to find someone," I said with a smile.
"Find someone?"
"Yes. By the way, this person should also be from your Black Guk Tribe, as his home is in Black Wind Village."
"What is his name?"
"Fang Zhan."
"Fang Zhan?" The woman in black softly exclaimed, a strange expression appearing on her face. "You are looking for Fang Zhan?"
"That's right. Do you know Fang Zhan?" A slight chill ran through me; it seemed she recognized Fang Zhan. Who was she to him? If she was a relative of Fang Zhan, given her ability to fend off the Skinny Man, how could we possibly be her match?
"Yes, I know of such a person," the woman in black nodded slightly, but a hint of peculiarity flashed in her clear gaze.
"By the way, I still don't know how to address you. I'm Zhong Zhengnan, and this is Ding Shaocheng," I said with a smile.
"Yurou Lin, you can call me Linzi," the woman in black replied calmly.
I was somewhat puzzled. Is there a surname Yu in the Hundred Family Surnames? Uh, perhaps she mispronounced it. I immediately laughed and asked, "Is it the Yu from 'the fish' or the Yu from 'abundance every year'?"
"The Yu from Da Yu!"
I was taken aback for a moment and quickly changed the subject to cover my embarrassment. "Uh, that surname of yours is quite ancient."
Upon hearing this, a strange expression flickered again in Yurou Lin's eyes as she looked at me deeply. "If you are going to Black Wind Village, then follow me."
Fatty, who was being supported by me, exclaimed in surprise, "Are we leaving now? Can we really traverse mountains and ridges in our current state?"
Yurou Lin smiled and said, "After taking my Recovery Pill, within five hours, no matter how severe your injuries are, they can be temporarily suppressed, and your physical strength will be restored to peak condition. However, after these five hours are up, you will feel discomfort for a while."
Hearing what Yurou Lin said, I moved my limbs a bit and found that my stamina had indeed returned to its peak state. I quickly smiled and pushed Fatty away, saying, "Come on, stop being such a pig."
Yurou Lin smiled lightly at my words and turned to walk down the middle path. I followed closely behind her, surprised as I asked, "Hey, Linzi, isn't the road to Black Wind Village the farthest right one?"
"The farthest right path leads to White Water Stockade," Yurou Lin replied without looking back.
"What?" Fatty and I exchanged glances, both feeling extremely frustrated. That bald boss was truly despicable; he had been deceiving us from the very beginning. The next time we see him, we must deal with him severely to relieve our anger.
After following Yurou Lin for about half an hour, we arrived at the foot of Wild Boar Mountain. From a distance, Wild Boar Mountain didn't seem very steep, but as we got closer, we realized it was not just steep; it was incredibly steep. In some areas, it was practically a vertical cliff.
"Linzi, how did you all climb up there?" I looked at the slope with a path resembling a ladder and exclaimed, "I really don't understand why you would want to live in such a treacherous environment."
"If we didn't live in places like this, the Guk Tribe would have been wiped out by your Han People long ago," Yurou Lin replied casually.
Uh, what do you mean by 'your Han People'? Is it wrong for me to be Han People?
Chuckling awkwardly, I quickly changed the subject: "Linzi, what kind of Spell are you using? That giant controlled by the bald boss and the beast controlled by that Skinny Man couldn't even be killed with guns. What's going on?"
Yurou Lin began to climb the steep path: "What's so strange about that? It's just like how you two have Spatial Bags; there are many things in this world that can't be explained."
Oh? She actually knows about our Spatial Bags. Could she also be someone who practices magic? Did she use a Spell to defeat Skinny Man just now? But all practitioners' powers had been drained by the Vedic Formation; how could she remain unaffected? Uh, could she be one of the Dark Overlords?
I followed closely behind Yurou Lin, various thoughts racing through my mind while I smiled and said, "Spatial Bag? This was given to me by a friend who practices magic. Since you know about Spatial Bags, could it be that you're also a practitioner? Was what you used just now a Spell?"
"What we used is not a Spell; it's Black Magic."
"Black Magic?" I scoffed. "Linzi, although I haven't read much, you can't fool me. Black Magic involves using special insects or drugs to harm or control people. It is divided into three types: drug control, spirit control, and ghost control. Drug control uses drugs to manipulate targets; spirit control only requires knowing someone's birth date or having their hair or nails; as for ghost control, it's what people call ghost-raising techniques. Whether it's drug control, spirit control, or ghost control, they are completely different from what you just cast."
Yurou Lin replied calmly, "I didn't expect you to know quite a bit. However, what you mentioned—drug control and spirit control—belongs to living control; its medium is living people or those who have just died recently. Besides living control, there is also dead control. Dead control can manipulate various corpses; as long as there is Black Magic within the body it controls, even if you chop that body into pieces, it can still reassemble itself."
After pausing for a moment, Yurou Lin continued: "Black Magic has nothing to do with magical power; it's a form of mental power. The stronger the mental power of a person is, the more powerful their Black Magic will be."
According to what you said, does that mean that all the skilled practitioners of Black Magic are mentally ill? Everyone in the world knows that only after becoming mentally ill can one's spirit improve. Of course, I can't say this to Linzi, who just laughs and says, "I guess your mental strength is quite impressive too."
"Not bad," Yurou Lin replied lightly.
...
As we continued on our journey, the paths we traversed were extremely treacherous, with narrow mountain trails less than a meter wide on sheer cliffs, iron cables strung across a gorge hundreds of meters high, and towering trees where we had to swing across using vines. Several times, I doubted that Fatty would survive due to his heavy build, and each time he cried out in despair, convinced he was doomed. Yet every time, he would hold Yurou Lin's hand with tears in his eyes and walk through various dangers with a blissful expression.
I suspected he was doing it on purpose just to hold Linzi's hand. Damn, such behavior is simply outrageous! I could only think to myself, why didn't I come up with such a trick?
Around five in the afternoon, we finally arrived at Black Wind Village. The moment I laid eyes on it, I was deeply captivated.
On the mountainside, a waterfall cascaded down. It wasn't very wide, about four or five meters, but it was extremely high, with a drop of nearly one hundred meters. As the breeze blew, water droplets splashed everywhere; even from this distance, I could feel the humid mist in the air. Next to the waterfall were various vibrant trees and shrubs. Aside from the Golden Maple Leaf, I couldn't name any of the other colors.
As we walked further, amidst this colorful scenery, a massive Stone Fortress revealed itself partially. Additionally, dozens of wooden houses were scattered around the Stone Fortress. The fortress was grand while the wooden houses were rustic; looking at them felt like gazing at a painting.
This was simply a paradise on earth! I couldn't help but marvel at it and quickly searched my mind for various related idioms to impress Artistic Youth.
However, Fatty had a knack for ruining the mood. With one sentence, he shattered my artistic thoughts: "Linzi, living here must be quite damp; you probably have to dry your blankets!"
Yurou Lin smiled and replied, "The wind from the gorge doesn't reach our side, so it's not as damp as you imagine."
The three of us continued forward, crossing a stone bridge covered in red flowers and green grass. After walking another forty or fifty meters, we faced a chasm ten meters wide and thousands of meters deep. Opposite us was a steep stone wall with a massive Copper Door embedded in it. The Copper Door was connected to our side by a giant log over two meters in diameter. If that log were removed and just a few people were stationed at this Copper Door, even an army of thousands would be unable to enter Black Wind Village.
While I was astonished, I was also filled with curiosity about how this five-meter-high Copper Door had been transported here. After all, the mountain roads we traveled were perilous; even transporting a two-meter-high Copper Door would have been impossible.
When I voiced my doubts to Yurou Lin, she raised an eyebrow and said, "Could it not have been forged by Black Wind Village's own blacksmith?"
Uh, that seems plausible too. Linzi's response earned her an odd laugh from Fatty.
As if sensing us, the Copper Door slowly opened from the other side. A rather handsome young man stepped out; he wasn't wearing a headscarf or Black Guk Tribe clothing but rather a casual camel-colored business jacket paired with deep navy casual pants. Although he looked quite handsome, there was an unsettling smirk on his lips that made me feel uncomfortable.
“Linzi, who are these two Han People?” Leisurely Man casually glanced at us and asked Yurou Lin with a sly smile.
“They are here to see Fang Zhan,” Yurou Lin replied calmly.
“Fang Zhan? Sorry, he just stepped out and won’t be back for a while. You two should come back later,” Leisurely Man scanned us again, his gaze filled with disdain. When his eyes landed on Yurou Lin, however, they were filled with blatant possession and desire.
“What right do you have to refuse Fang Zhan's guests entry into the village?” Yurou Lin maintained her calm demeanor.
“Today it’s my duty as Fang Xiang. I make the calls here. Just because they know him doesn’t mean anything. I could say I know Obama too; what does that matter if he doesn’t know me? If they want to enter the village, it has to be through an introduction from Fang Zhan himself,” Leisurely Man raised an eyebrow and laughed dismissively.
“Then I’ll take them in myself. Is my status not enough to bring two guests into the village?” Linzi frowned.
“Your status? You’re just a doctor we hired at Black Wind Village; that doesn’t give you the authority to bring anyone in,” Leisurely Man, Fang Xiang, revealed a meaningful smile. “Or perhaps you should consider my suggestion, and I might let them in.”
Yurou Lin’s expression turned cold. “Fang Xiang, stop dreaming!”
Fang Xiang snorted coldly. “Then don’t blame me for being unaccommodating; these two Han People absolutely cannot enter.”
