Zhong Kui's Diary
After thinking for a moment, I walked into the living room and saw Fatty enthusiastically chatting with Sugar Doll, who was looking around with an indifferent expression.
I smiled and pulled Linzi into the bedroom, closing the door. Before I could speak, Linzi calmly said, "Do you have something to tell me?"
You noticed that? I chuckled, "Yeah, earlier Wei Ziyi pointed at you before he died, as if he wanted to tell me something. I've been a bit puzzled."
Linzi pondered for a moment and asked, "First tell me, what exactly do you want with Fang Zhan?"
Can you not be so slippery? I asked you first! Just because you're beautiful doesn't mean you have any special privileges. Do you believe... never mind, beauty does have its privileges. I'll go first. So, I told Linzi everything about Jin Manyuan releasing the Top Ten Dark Demon Kings before his death.
"Were you suspecting that Fang Zhan was possessed by Chaos?" Linzi frowned.
"Yeah, three months ago, Fang Zhan was dull and lifeless, and suddenly he became charming and suave. Isn't that worth questioning? Either he was possessed by Chaos or he was pretending to be that way. By the way, you should know what Fang Zhan was like three months ago, right?"
Linzi slowly shook her head. "I don't know."
I was surprised. "You don't know? You're his fiancée; who else would know?"
"I only arrived in Black Wind Village two months ago and have only met Fang Zhan once," Linzi replied calmly. "This person is quite scheming; the possibility of him being possessed by Chaos is low."
"What?" I exclaimed in surprise. "You only came to Black Wind Village two months ago? Then why did you agree to become Fang Zhan's fiancée? Oh, I get it; Fang Boda pressured you, right?"
Linzi shook her head again. "No, it was my suggestion to become the doctor of Black Wind Village and selflessly teach my medical skills. Only then did Fang Boda agree to let me marry Fang Zhan."
"You mean you strongly requested to become Fang Zhan's wife? Did you fall in love with him at first sight?"
"At first sight?" Linzi nodded blankly and then shook her head.
Seeing her like this made me scratch my head in confusion. What does this mean?
Linzi stared blankly for a while before coming back to herself and glanced at me. "Mr. Zhong, you've experienced many strange things as well; let me share my experiences with you."
I quickly nodded with a smile. "I'm all ears."
"Have you heard of Reincarnation?" Linzi looked at me with a strange expression.
"Reincarnation?" I was somewhat taken aback. Weren't we in Fang Zhan? Suddenly jumping to such a profound topic left me quite confused. Then, a flash of inspiration struck me. Right, in Wei Ziyi's diary, wasn't the last character just 'wheel'? Could it be that she was thinking of Reincarnation?
Nodding, I smiled and said, "Reincarnation generally refers to the Six Realms of Reincarnation. In Buddhism, it is believed that all living beings, if they do not seek liberation, will continue to be reborn in the six realms of life and death without end. The so-called six realms refer to humans, Asuras, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell."
Linzi looked at me with a half-smile and asked, "So do you believe in this Reincarnation?"
I shook my head. "I don't believe."
Linzi frowned slightly. "You've experienced so many strange things, even meeting the Dark Overlord. Why don't you believe in the Six Realms of Reincarnation?"
"Because I know that there are only Yin-Yang Realms in this world, where humans and Demons reside. Aside from that, there are no other energies. Even the Judgment of Life and Death, which is powerful, is merely a Demon. Although its abilities can destroy the earth and manipulate people's futures through various means, it cannot ensure the continuity of life and death. Reincarnation is simply nonsense."
"Is there really no other energy aside from the Judgment of Life and Death?" Linzi asked calmly.
"All Demons and Cultivators in the Yin-Yang Realms are differentiated consciousnesses of Prehistoric Demons. Among these consciousnesses, the Judgment of Life and Death is the most formidable. If it can't do it, then there are no other energies in the Yin-Yang Realms," I replied confidently.
Linzi smiled lightly. "Then how do you explain Spirits?"
I was momentarily stunned. Right, how could I forget about that? Spirits exist completely independent of the Yin-Yang Realms.
"Before encountering Demons, you probably didn't believe in them either, right?" Linzi said slowly. "Because you hadn't come into contact with the realm of Reincarnation, that's why you don't believe. People are like that; only after experiencing something themselves will they firmly believe in it."
I couldn't help but recall a famous saying by Zeno from ancient Greece: knowledge is like a circle; what is known lies within the circle while what is unknown lies outside it. The more one knows, the larger this circle becomes; as the circle grows larger, so does the unknown. Linzi's words seemed to embody this principle; precisely because I had encountered far more than ordinary people did I also face more unknowns. Reincarnation was just one of them. I needed to adjust my mindset and be brave enough to accept new things.
Seeing that I remained silent, Linzi continued, "To give another example, the Black Magic I use cannot be explained by Demonic powers, right?"
That's right; if Black Magic required magical power, then Linzi's powers would have long been taken by Vedic Formation. I smiled wryly and nodded. "So there really is something to the Six Realms of Reincarnation?"
"No, the Six Realms of Reincarnation are purely fictional; they do not exist at all," Linzi replied calmly.
"Hey, what do you mean? One moment it exists and the next it doesn't." I felt a bit frantic.
"I do not exist in the Six Realms of Reincarnation, but Reincarnation does exist." Linzi's face once again showed a look of confusion.
Is there a difference? Aren't the Six Realms of Reincarnation and Reincarnation the same? However, I knew she was about to get to the main point, so I remained silent and just watched her.
Linzi was dazed for about three or four seconds before she murmured, "A long time ago, there was a young couple whose families were very powerful at that time. Therefore, they acted recklessly and looked down on everyone."
"Uh-huh." I nodded.
"One day, while they were out enjoying themselves, they encountered a monk. The man casually mocked him, saying the monk was just a name without substance. The monk, being young and impetuous, proposed a contest. The man readily agreed, and after some competition, there was soon a result..." Linzi paused again, lost in thought.
"I suppose the monk was defeated by that man?" I couldn't help but ask.
Linzi came back to her senses and shook her head with a bitter smile. "No, it was the man who defeated the monk. Not only did he defeat him, but he also humiliated him verbally. Unexpectedly, the monk, filled with shame and anger, drew his sword and took his own life."
"Tsk tsk, ancient people really were impulsive." I said noncommittally. Wasn't it just that he couldn't beat someone and then got insulted? Although it wasn't pleasant, it shouldn't lead to taking one's own life. How could someone with such a mindset become an extraordinary master? To become a supreme expert, talent, confidence, diligence are all essential, and most importantly, one must have unwavering determination.
"The couple didn't take it seriously; after all, their families were very prominent. Even if they killed someone in public, their families could quickly cover it up. Unexpectedly, that night an old monk came to their door—he was the monk's master—and proposed to duel with the couple. In that battle, the couple suffered a crushing defeat and were subdued by the old monk on the spot," Linzi said slowly.
"And then?" I asked curiously.
"Then..." A trace of pain appeared on Linzi's face. "Then the old monk came specifically for revenge for his disciple. If he easily killed the couple, it would be too merciful for them. He wanted to use a set of Reincarnation techniques on them and told them that once they were caught in Reincarnation, they would endlessly traverse through various eras in life and death without end until they found a way to terminate Reincarnation."
"Uh, what does that mean?" I swallowed hard; traversing? Are you sure you're not joking?
"Let me put it this way: that couple must find each other in Reincarnation and engage in relations to end this endless cycle of Reincarnation." Linzi's expression of pain intensified: "Otherwise, they would grow old and die only to begin the next Reincarnation."
"I see... It doesn't seem like such a bad thing?" I said somewhat puzzled. "Isn't traversing quite popular? After traversing, all kinds of glory and wealth come; isn't that good?"
"Traversing once or twice might be good, but what about hundreds of times?" Linzi's voice trembled slightly: "In that case, you would have hundreds of identities. Can you understand the pain of waking up in the morning not knowing who you are because you have too many identities? Can you understand the pain of not knowing what to say to others because you have too many identities?"
I shook my head.
"The most important thing is that this kind of Reincarnation is not calculated by time. You might be an emperor from the Three Kingdoms Period in one Reincarnation and then become a bandit during the Anti-Japanese War in the next one. It's also possible that in one Reincarnation you are a great general while in the next you revert back decades as your grandfather who became a great general; then in another Reincarnation you become the granddaughter of that great general. Can you comprehend the agony of such identity confusion?"
I shook my head again.
After that, Linzi didn't say anything and started to stare blankly.
I cleared my throat and said, "Linzi, actually, you are the wife among the couple, right?"
Linzi nodded in confusion.
"As long as you can find your husband and have a relationship with him, you can break this Reincarnation curse, right?" I asked cautiously.
"Yes."
"You thought Fang Zhan was your husband, which is why you wanted to marry him, right?"
"Yes."
