Before long, plates of stir-fried chicken were brought out.
Yang Chen gestured, "Everyone, give it a try."
The crowd looked at the secretary and the county chief; neither of them moved their chopsticks, and no one dared to eat first.
Tai Man picked up her chopsticks and said, "Secretary, why not give it a taste?"
Wang Hongen had no choice but to pick up his chopsticks and took a piece of chicken to try.
Seeing that the secretary and the county chief had eaten, everyone else began to pick up their chopsticks and taste the dish.
"The flavor is good; this definitely isn't Old Wang's cooking."
"Old Wang's meals are either tasteless or way too salty; he should have been replaced long ago."
The Old Wang they referred to was the chef of the government cafeteria.
Tai Man chewed on the chicken, her brow furrowing as she looked at Yang Chen, thinking that something was off.
This chicken was definitely not the free-range chicken brought by Yang Chen's mother because the meat was tender and lacked the firmness she had experienced at Yang Chen's home.
Wang Hongen put down his chopsticks and looked at Yang Chen, asking, "Director Yang, we've all eaten the chicken; can you now explain your intentions?"
"Not yet!"
Yang Chen ordered more plates of chicken to be brought out and said, "Leaders, please try this new batch."
"Nonsense!" Wang Hongen scolded. "We are holding a government meeting, not a food tasting event. County Chief Tai, isn't Director Yang being a bit reckless?"
Wang Hongen directly challenged Tai Man.
Tai Man was also puzzled by Yang Chen's antics and quietly asked, "Yang Chen, what are you doing?"
"County Chief, you'll know once you try it."
Seeing Yang Chen's earnest demeanor, Tai Man decided to trust him and took up her chopsticks again for another taste.
After finishing, she licked her lips and said excitedly, "Yes, this is right!"
It had a texture that rivaled beef and an aroma that matched pork; this was the free-range chicken she had eaten in Minsheng Village.
"Secretary, you should try it too; everyone else should give it a go as well. I guarantee it will surprise you."
Seeing the county chief's enthusiastic recommendation, everyone took another taste.
"The taste is similar, but the texture is completely different."
"That's right, it must be the difference in the chicken," someone pointed out the key issue.
Yang Chen nodded and said, "Exactly, both times the chicken was prepared the same way, but since I cooked it myself, the taste is consistent."
"However, the selection of ingredients is different. One type is the common meat chicken found in the market, while the other comes from my hometown, Minhua Village, where we raise Free-Range Chicken in the mountains."
Wang Hongen noticed that the leaders present were nodding frequently, and some had picked up their chopsticks and hadn’t put them down since. He picked up a piece of meat to taste and remarked, "It really is different from what we just had, but I have eaten rural-raised Free-Range Chicken before, and I still feel there is a distinction."
"The secretary is correct; typical Free-Range Chicken is raised at home and still fed grain during the process," Yang Chen continued. "But our Free-Range Chicken from Minhua Village is raised in the mountains and only eats fruits, insects, and herbs found there, which makes it taste better. The only downside is that it has a slower growth cycle."
Wang Hongen understood Yang Chen's intention and put down his chopsticks. "Director Yang, are you planning to start a business raising this Free-Range Chicken?"
"The secretary has a keen eye. I have detailed materials here for everyone to review," Yang Chen indicated for Li Lu to distribute the materials.
After reviewing them, many frowned. The Director of the Land Bureau spoke up: "According to Director Yang's plan, raising this Free-Range Chicken requires mountain land for grazing, so we need to contract the forest. This isn't something we can decide on our own; it requires approval from various departments like forestry and environmental protection."
The Head of the Forestry Department said, "The initial land requirement isn't large; we can report it to the urban area for approval without issues."
"But according to your later plans, if you want to contract all three sides of Minhua Village's mountains, that must be reported to provincial authorities. It will require approval from multiple departments like the Provincial Forestry Bureau and Natural Resources Department; it's unlikely to get approved."
"Where there's a will, there's a way. As long as we demonstrate the prospects of Free-Range Chicken and plan well to minimize ecological damage to natural resources, we can appeal to provincial authorities," Secretary Wang said.
County Chief Tai closed the materials and remarked, "It seems you are eager to push these two projects forward?"
Both plans were detailed, showing that Tai Man had put considerable effort into them. He specifically called for him and relevant department leaders to be present, indicating Tai Man was determined.
Tai Man's expression turned serious as he said, "Secretary Wang, before this meeting, we have held three meetings but haven't produced a development plan."
"I understand that pushing these two projects forward is very challenging. However, if we don't try, Hualin will never change its current situation and will only watch as it declines step by step."
"These two projects have the potential to enhance Hualin's reputation and help it reach out; I want to give it a shot!"
Wang Hongen stood up and said, "I'm getting older and may not have the courage that you young people do. I personally reserve my opinion; however, if County Chief Tai insists on proceeding, I won't oppose it."
"But if any problems arise along the way, County Chief Tai must also bear responsibility."
"Rest assured, Secretary; I will not shirk any responsibilities that come with this," Tai Man replied firmly.
"Alright, I have some matters to attend to now; you all continue discussing how to move forward."
After Secretary Wang left, Tai Man continued to preside over the meeting.
The representatives from the Tourism Bureau went to implement the tourism development for Black Sand Cave, while the heads of various departments, including the Land Bureau and the Forestry Bureau, were assigned to the urban area to obtain approval documents for the Minsheng Village Free-Range Chicken project.
After returning to the office, Tai Man was in a great mood; regardless of what the future held, both projects were now underway. Yang Chen poured a glass of water for Tai Man and said, "Since we have decided to develop the farming industry, we must create a brand like Haori. Therefore, we need to come up with a name for the Free-Range Chicken."
"The name Free-Range Chicken is too generic. I remember you mentioned that the chickens in your village are fed herbs and have excellent nourishing properties. Why not name it based on herbal cuisine?" Tai Man looked at Yang Chen, waiting for a response.
Yang Chen shook his head: "Initially, I considered that too, but once we associate it with medicine, it can easily lead to disputes. Therefore, the medicinal properties can only be part of our promotion; we cannot fully link it to medicine. Otherwise, if a dispute arises, the entire brand will be ruined."
Yang Chen thought of this because he was inspired by the case of Hongmao Medicinal Wine. It was originally a well-known company but ended up going bankrupt due to its association with medicine. If they completely linked their chickens to medicine, they would need to clearly label the medicinal components and pharmacological effects in the chicken meat. However, since each chicken consumes different herbs and amounts, how could they possibly label that?
Thus, they could only emphasize the nourishing effects without any connection to medicine. Tai Man nodded and said, "I see my oversight now. How about we call it Nourishing Chicken?" By not emphasizing any medicinal properties and focusing solely on its nourishing effects, they could avoid unnecessary disputes.
