Wei Ziyang was just as she remembered, full of energy and vitality. The passage of time seemed to have left few marks on her face, instead adding a touch of mature charm. She still sported her refreshing short hair, which had transformed from a tomboyish style into a more polished and capable look.
"Long time no see, Li Ran," Wei Ziyang said with a faint smile, though her eyes held a complex expression.
"You... how did you end up here?" Li Ran finally regained his voice, disbelief and a hint of barely noticeable panic in his tone.
"I saw your name on the competition list and guessed it was you," Wei Ziyang replied, turning her gaze to Zhao Kai, her tone growing cold. "Zhao Kai, have you thought about what I asked you before?"
Zhao Kai's expression changed slightly, his eyes flickering as he stammered, "Ziyang, can we talk about this later?"
"Why can't we talk about it now?" Wei Ziyang's tone was firm, showing no mercy to Zhao Kai. "You promised me that as long as you found Li Ran, you would agree to one condition. Now that I've brought him to you, you wouldn't want to back out, would you?"
"I..." Zhao Kai opened his mouth but didn't know how to refute her.
"Ziyang, what do you want to talk to me about?" Li Ran asked Wei Ziyang in a low tone.
"Li Ran, do you remember when we formed a band together back in the day? We promised each other that we would stand on stage and let the world hear our music," Wei Ziyang said, ignoring Zhao Kai and turning her attention back to Li Ran. Her eyes were filled with nostalgia and hope. "Now there's an opportunity for us to realize that dream. Are you willing?"
Li Ran fell silent, a flicker of struggle and pain crossing his eyes.
"Li Ran, I know these years have been tough for you, but please believe me—music is our dream; we can't just give up like this." Wei Ziyang stepped closer to Li Ran, grasping his arm with sincerity in her voice. "Come back to us; let's start anew together!"
Li Ran looked at Wei Ziyang's sincere eyes, and the defenses in his heart began to crumble little by little. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and after a long moment, he slowly spoke, "I'm sorry, Ziyang, I'm not the person I used to be. Now, I'm just a useless person living off others' efforts. I don't deserve to talk about dreams anymore."
After saying this, Li Ran abruptly shook off Wei Ziyang's hand and turned to walk out of the rest area.
"Li Ran!" Wei Ziyang wanted to chase after him but was pulled back by Zhao Kai.
"Ziyang, don't chase after him. He's not the Li Ran he used to be," Zhao Kai said, watching Li Ran's departing figure with a complex tone. "He has changed; we have all changed."
Wei Ziyang sat down on a chair helplessly, her eyes reddening as tears swirled in her eyes.
"Ziyang, are you okay?" Zhao Kai looked at Wei Ziyang's sad expression and felt bad for her, but he didn't know how to comfort her.
Wei Ziyang didn't speak; she just silently shook her head as tears rolled down her cheeks.
Outside the rest area, Li Ran stopped in his tracks, facing away from Wei Ziyang and Zhao Kai. His fists were tightly clenched, nails digging deep into his flesh as if he wanted to claw out the flesh of his palm.
"Why? Why did you have to show up at this moment? Why do you make me remember those painful memories?" Li Ran growled softly, his voice filled with pain and despair.
He raised his head and looked at the bustling competition venue ahead, a glimmer of determination flashing in his eyes.
"Since I can't go back, then let everything come to an end."

Li Ran took a deep breath and turned to walk towards Wei Ziyang. He stood firmly in front of her, looking directly into her reddened eyes, and said with determination, "I can join your team."
Wei Ziyang suddenly raised his head, tears still hanging on his eyelashes, and asked in surprise, "Really? Li Ran, are you really willing to join us?"
"Yes." Li Ran gently nodded, a long-lost smile appearing on his lips. "Let's achieve our dreams together."
Beside them, Zhao Kai looked at the scene in disbelief, his mouth slightly open but unable to say a word. He never expected that Li Ran would actually agree to Wei Ziyang's invitation.
"That's great!" Wei Ziyang excitedly hugged Li Ran, his voice choked with emotion. "I knew you wouldn't give up on our dream!"
Li Ran's body stiffened for a moment, then he gently patted Wei Ziyang's back and said softly, "Alright, don't cry. There are so many people watching."
Only then did Wei Ziyang realize he had lost his composure. He quickly released Li Ran, embarrassedly wiped away his tears, and smiled through his sobs.
