Li Ran joined Wei Ziyang's team and began to immerse himself in intense training.
The team members were quite surprised by Li Ran's arrival, as the title of "Hunter" was well-known in the Metaverse. However, Zhao Kai, the team owner, seemed somewhat resistant to Li Ran's inclusion. He watched everything with a cold gaze, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
In the training room, the sounds of keyboard tapping and mouse clicking echoed as the team members focused on their cooperative training. Li Ran sat at his computer, his fingers flying across the keyboard, maneuvering his game character effortlessly through the virtual world. His movements were fluid and precise, each attack hitting the opponent's weak points perfectly.
"Wow! Ran Ge, your skills are incredible!" exclaimed a young teammate sitting next to Li Ran. "How do you predict your opponent's movements? It's like you have aimbot!"
Li Ran smiled lightly and replied, "Practice more and feel the game; you can do it too."
"Ran Ge, were you a professional player before? Why have I never heard of you?" another teammate asked curiously.
Li Ran's expression darkened slightly as he shook his head and remained silent, continuing to focus on his training.
Zhao Kai stood at the door of the training room, watching Li Ran train seriously, feeling a twinge of bitterness in his heart. He knew that Li Ran had become this way because of him.
"Li Ran, let's talk," Zhao Kai said as he walked up behind Li Ran in a low tone.
Li Ran took off his headphones and turned to look at Zhao Kai with calm eyes.
"Let's go outside," Li Ran said as he stood up and followed Zhao Kai out of the training room.
The two stepped onto the outdoor balcony outside the Training Base. Zhao Kai lit a cigarette, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled the smoke.
"Li Ran, I know that back then, I wronged you and Ziyang," Zhao Kai said, looking into the distance, his tone filled with guilt. "If it weren't for me..."
"Let's not bring up the past," Li Ran interrupted Zhao Kai, his tone indifferent. "Right now, I just want to focus on the competition and achieve our dreams."
"Li Ran, have you really let it go?" Zhao Kai turned to look at Li Ran, his eyes complex. "Can you truly forgive me?"
Li Ran was silent for a moment, gazing into Zhao Kai's eyes, and said slowly, "Zhao Kai, some things are in the past; we can't go back."
Zhao Kai extinguished the burnt-out cigarette butt in the trash can on the balcony and raised his head, looking at Li Ran with a complicated expression. "But there are things I must tell you."
Li Ran remained silent, simply watching Zhao Kai, waiting for him to continue.
"Ten years ago, you and Ziyang..." Zhao Kai hesitated, as if organizing his thoughts or grappling with something.
Seeing Zhao Kai's stammering demeanor, Li Ran furrowed his brow slightly. "Just say what you want to say."
"The misunderstanding between you and Ziyang ten years ago actually has another story..." Zhao Kai took a deep breath, as if he had made up his mind. "The letter you received back then was not written by Ziyang."
Li Ran suddenly looked up, his gaze sharp as he stared at Zhao Kai. "What do you mean?"
"The letter from back then was..." Zhao Kai's words were interrupted once again by the sound of the Training Base's door being pushed open.
"Li Ran! There you are, I've been looking for you!" Wei Ziyang's voice approached from a distance, holding two cups of drinks and beaming with a bright smile. "You must be tired from training, so I got you your favorite lemon tea."
Seeing Wei Ziyang, Zhao Kai swallowed the words he had yet to finish. He glanced at Li Ran, then at Wei Ziyang, ultimately letting out a helpless sigh without saying anything.
"What brings you here?" Li Ran took the drink Wei Ziyang offered, his tone calm as if the tense atmosphere between him and Zhao Kai moments ago didn't exist at all.
"I came to see how your training is going!" Wei Ziyang replied with a smile, walking up to Li Ran and naturally wrapping her arm around his. "Come on, let's get back to training!"
Li Ran's body stiffened slightly but did not reject Wei Ziyang's affectionate gesture. He allowed her to pull him toward the Training Base, though in that brief moment of turning around, his gaze became deep and complex.
Back in the training room, Li Ran put on his headphones again and immersed himself in the intense training. However, his thoughts were already disturbed by Zhao Kai's words.
"That letter from back then wasn't written by Ziyang..."
This sentence echoed repeatedly in Li Ran's mind as he gripped the mouse tightly, his knuckles turning pale.
He had always believed that it was Wei Ziyang who betrayed their dreams and their friendship back then. So he chose to escape, to shut himself away in the virtual world, no longer trusting anyone or any feelings.
But if what Zhao Kai said was true, then what really happened back then? Who wrote that letter? What were their intentions?
