Countless questions swirled in Li Ran's mind. He felt as if he were trapped in a fog, unable to find direction or see any hope.
"Li Ran, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" The young teammate sitting next to him noticed his unusual behavior and asked with concern.
Li Ran took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. "I'm fine, let's continue training."
His tone was calm, but his eyes still reflected confusion and pain.
After training, Li Ran went alone to a café near the Training Base. He needed a quiet place to sort out his thoughts.
"One Americano, please," Li Ran said to the waiter, then found a seat by the window.
The café was not crowded, and soft music flowed through the air, creating a tranquil and warm atmosphere.
Li Ran gazed out at the bustling street outside, but his thoughts drifted back ten years.
He remembered that summer after the college entrance examination when he and a few close friends decided to go on vacation to the beach.
The azure sea, golden sand, and the spirit of youth filled the air. They enjoyed their freedom to the fullest, as if time had frozen in that moment.
At night, during a bonfire party, Wei Ziyang confessed her feelings for him with a flushed face, but he, feeling insecure, couldn't accept Wei Ziyang's affection.
"Ziyang, can we still be friends?" Li Ran's voice trembled slightly; he couldn't bear to look into Wei Ziyang's eyes for fear of seeing disappointment and sadness.
Wei Ziyang paused for a moment, her eyes instantly reddening, but she held back her tears and smiled as she nodded. "Of course we can! We're best friends after all!"
A few days later, Li Ran received a letter from Wei Ziyang.
The contents of the letter completely shattered the last glimmer of hope in Li Ran's heart.
In the letter, Wei Ziyang stated that she had found new happiness and hoped that Li Ran could forget her and start a new life.
At the end of the letter, there was a photo attached. In the photo, Wei Ziyang was nestled in the arms of a stranger, her face radiating with a joyful smile.
Li Ran tightly clutched the letter, his knuckles turning white from the pressure, and the paper crumpled in his grip.
"Li Ran, what's wrong? Are you thinking about Ziyang?"
Zhao Kai's voice suddenly rang in his ears, pulling Li Ran back to reality.
Li Ran looked up to see Zhao Kai standing in front of him, holding two cups of coffee.
"How did you know I was thinking about her?" Li Ran asked calmly.
"Because every time you think of her, your eyes become very gentle," Zhao Kai said, placing one cup of coffee in front of Li Ran. "I came to ask you if you would like to participate in this 'Metaverse' music competition."
"Music competition?" Li Ran frowned slightly, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
"Yes, this competition is officially organized by 'Metaverse,' and it's quite large with substantial prizes. Ziyang knows you've always loved music, so she wanted you to give it a try."
Zhao Kai paused before continuing, "Li Ran, I know you have many questions in your heart, but I want to say that Ziyang has never forgotten you. She has always hoped to reconcile with you."
“Ziyang she…” Li Ran opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say.
“Li Ran, give yourself a chance, and give Ziyang a chance too, okay?” Zhao Kai patted Li Ran on the shoulder and said earnestly.
Li Ran remained silent for a long time before finally nodding, “Alright, I’ll participate.”
Upon hearing Li Ran's response, a relieved smile appeared on Zhao Kai's face. He knew that Li Ran had finally decided to take this step.
“Then it’s settled. I will send you the competition details, so prepare well,” Zhao Kai said as he turned to leave.
“Zhao Kai! ” Li Ran called out to him.
“What’s wrong?” Zhao Kai turned around, looking at Li Ran with confusion.
“Who wrote that letter back then?” Li Ran’s gaze sharpened, his tone carrying a hint of questioning.
Zhao Kai was taken aback for a moment. He opened his mouth as if to say something but ultimately said nothing. He just looked deeply at Li Ran before turning and leaving the café.
Li Ran watched Zhao Kai's departing figure, his expression complex and profound. He knew that Zhao Kai must be hiding something from him, but he didn’t press further.
Li Ran picked up the coffee in front of him and took a gentle sip, the bitter taste spreading across his tongue.
