Star Dragon God
Duan Yi was instantly furious; he would not believe such words and angrily said, "Hmph! Don't be ungrateful. Do you think I would believe your nonsense? If you don't start being honest, I'll make sure you can never speak again."
However, Duan Chongyang had already made up his mind to cling to Duan Huan's support, determined to die at his feet. Although he was terrified, he decided to hold on for dear life. He immediately put on a fearful expression, with a mournful face pleading, "Young Lord, I swear everything I said is true. Please don't kill me; I'll do anything you ask in the future."
Duan Chongyang looked as if he might burst into tears. This person had once been high and mighty, yet here he was, reduced to this pitiful state just to survive. Duan Yi looked at Duan Chongyang's disgraceful behavior with disgust and said, "It seems you won't shed a tear until you see the coffin."
With that, Duan Yi's body radiated yellow Origin Force, which quickly gathered in his fist as he glared fiercely at Duan Chongyang, one hand rubbing his wrist menacingly.
Duan Chongyang was genuinely frightened and immediately scrambled off the bed, grabbing Duan Yi's hand and desperately pleading, "Young Lord, I promise everything I said is true! You have to believe me; how could I possibly deceive you when this is such a great opportunity?"
Duan Yi disdainfully shook off Duan Chongyang's hand; he had never seen anyone like this before. In truth, Duan Yi would never really kill him; after all, this was someone Duan Huan had asked him to take care of. He could only scare him a little. However, seeing how easily Duan Chongyang crumbled under pressure made Duan Yi want to leave immediately. He coldly said, "Get lost. It was just a joke; I only came to see you." With that, he turned and left Duan Chongyang's room without looking back.
After leaving Duan Chongyang's room, Duan Yi headed straight for Huo Feng's room. Huo Feng was still lost in thoughts of Ruo Xi when suddenly the door was pushed open. Huo Feng turned to see it was none other than the previously encountered Duan Yi.
Huo Feng felt puzzled about why he would come here at this late hour; it surely wasn't just to see him.
At that moment, Duan Yi closed the door and approached Huo Feng's bedside. He touched his nose and smiled, "How are you? Is your injury serious?"
Huo Feng returned the smile and replied, "Thank you for your concern, Young Lord. It's just a minor injury; nothing serious. But surely your late-night visit isn't just for a simple check-up?"
Duan Yi didn't expect Huo Feng to be so direct and calm. He looked deeply at Huo Feng and said, "Of course not; I just happened to pass by here and thought I'd stop by. How could a Young Lord like me specifically come to see someone of unknown origin like you?"
Huo Feng remained silent but looked at Duan Yi with an expectant expression. He knew that Duan Yi's visit wasn't as simple as he claimed; however, since they had no connection, why would he come here?
Duan Yi noticed that Huo Feng's calm demeanor was not typical for such a secluded place, which further convinced him of his suspicions regarding the Second Elder. However, if he didn't say something now, Huo Feng might become even more suspicious of him. So he continued, "I heard that you knew my father from before? What is your relationship with him?"
"Is that what you're asking?" Huo Feng laughed. Did he think of me as someone with a special relationship with Duan Huan? Huo Feng continued, "What? Are you feeling threatened by my presence? I'm like a brother to Duan Huan; do you believe that?"
Brother? That meant Huo Feng was older than Duan Yi! Wouldn't that make Duan Yi call Huo Feng 'uncle'? Not only did Duan Yi fail to get the information he wanted, but now he had unexpectedly gained an uncle in the process—something that infuriated him further. He snapped back angrily, "Hmph! Just based on what you've said, I could kill you."
Yet inside, he was shocked; no one dared to disrespect Duan Huan like this in his territory—especially right under Duan Huan's nose! What kind of backing did Huo Feng have? However, in terms of strength, Huo Feng had none; he was merely at the Second Stage of Pulse Realm. As for influence, Fire Phoenix was an unknown entity; even someone from a powerful faction wouldn't be treated this way by Duan Huan. At that moment, Duan Yi firmly believed that Huo Feng must be an illegitimate child of Duan Huan who had returned to claim the position of Fortress Master.
Upon hearing what Duan Yi said, Huo Feng scoffed coldly and replied, "Is that so? You alone can't kill me; do you dare? Guess how your father would treat you if you tried to find out our relationship—go ask him yourself! I'm not your father; why should I tell you?"
Duan Yi clenched his fists tightly; veins bulged on his hands as they cracked from the pressure. His face turned red with rage as he gritted his teeth—he looked ready to kill and then desecrate the corpse.
Huo Feng did not even glance at him, simply sitting there with his eyes closed, as if entering a meditative state. In reality, Huo Feng was deliberately closing his eyes to further provoke him; he intended to take this opportunity to create chaos.
After a few moments, Duan Yi finally calmed down somewhat, but the resentment in his heart only intensified. He suppressed his anger and spoke slowly, "You, a mere Second Stage of Pulse Realm, dare to speak so boldly in front of me? I am still a Tribulation Pulse Realm Three. I see your injuries will heal soon. If you are truly as tough as you claim, are you willing to face me in the Training Arena?"
"Why should I fight you?" Huo Feng opened his eyes and looked at Duan Yi, continuing, "What are you? If I were to kill you in the Training Arena, it would be disastrous for me."
With that, Huo Feng closed his eyes again, ignoring Duan Yi. At this moment, Duan Yi was so furious he nearly spat blood but found himself unable to do anything about Huo Feng. In the end, he could only mutter "coward" before turning to leave, knowing that staying would only make him more frustrated.
Just as Duan Yi reached the door, Huo Feng spoke up, "Since you've come to seek me out for a spar at this late hour, I certainly can't refuse the request of the Young Lord. I will definitely show up; just be prepared for it."
Initially ready to give up, Duan Yi was unexpectedly pleased by Huo Feng's sudden agreement. His mood lifted significantly; now he had the chance to thoroughly punish him. Even if he ended up killing that damned Fortress Master, there would be nothing he could do about it. Thus, he replied, "I hope you keep your word. As for being prepared mentally, I don't need that to deal with you."
With that, Duan Yi left in high spirits while Huo Feng, having been interrupted by Duan Yi, lost interest in recalling anything further and began to cultivate instead.
At that moment, outside the window below, a figure transformed into a streak of light and vanished from sight.
············
The Xiaoyao Fortress actually has eleven floors; aside from the top floor being a forbidden area, the others serve as resting and cultivation spaces. As the Fortress Master of Xiaoyao Fortress, Duan Huan resides on the tenth floor. This tenth floor is also where the Fortress Master and various elders stay. Except for those they have personally approved, no one else is allowed to enter this tenth floor casually.
Inside the tenth floor's chamber of the Fortress Master, Duan Huan was reading a book titled "Dragon Clan Secrets" when a figure appeared at the door.
Still focused on his reading, Duan Huan said, " Shu Quan , you're here. Have you made any special discoveries? Why did you only come now after I instructed you earlier?"
The person called Shu Quan was assigned by Duan Huan to monitor Huo Feng. At this moment, Shu Quan entered and bowed to Duan Huan, saying, "Fortress Master, I haven't discovered anything significant. However, there is one matter I wish to report: just now, the Young Lord went to see that Huo Feng."
"Oh?" Duan Huan closed the book "Dragon Clan Secrets" and turned to ask Shu Quan , "What does Yi'er want with him at this hour?"
Shu Quan replied, "I heard the Young Lord ask about the relationship between Huo Feng and that Duan Chongyang. However, he was provoked by a taunting response from Huo Feng, leading to a challenge issued by the Young Lord. Surprisingly, Huo Feng agreed without much concern."
Duan Yi sighed and expressed disappointment: "Yi'er, that child is still so impulsive. Let them make their fuss; you continue monitoring that Huo Feng. I will grant him absolute freedom to come and go from the Xiaoyao Fortress. Just make sure to pay attention to everything he does and anyone he meets; report it all back to me without missing a word."
"Understood. I will return now to continue monitoring him," Shu Quan said before turning to leave.
At that moment, it seemed like something occurred to Duan Huan, who suddenly called out: "Wait! You must pay close attention during their sparring match tomorrow. Let them have their fun but be ready to intervene if any issues arise; after all, he's my only heir—even if he's somewhat lacking."
"Yes, I understand," Shu Quan replied.
Duan Huan waved at Shu Quan and said, "Thank you for your hard work, you can go now."
The night was short for these cultivators, as it passed by unknowingly.
At dawn, Huo Feng opened his eyes. He jumped out of bed, stretched his muscles, and walked outside the house. He still didn't know where the Training Arena in Xiaoyao Fortress was and didn't dare to come out too early for fear of being seen as unreliable.
Not long after Huo Feng stepped outside, he encountered a boy about his age. As soon as the boy saw Huo Feng, his eyes lit up. Huo Feng was quite famous in Xiaoyao Fortress, with various rumors circulating about him and Fortress Master Duan Huan. Moreover, Duan Huan had even sent his personal Imperial Guard to take care of him.
The boy approached Huo Feng and asked, "You are the Huo Feng that Fortress Master brought back, right?"
Huo Feng looked at the boy and noticed that his cultivation level was even higher than Duan Yi's, which surprised him. Could this be the talent of this Otherworld? So Huo Feng smiled and said, "Yes, that's right! Oh! By the way, I have something to ask you. Do you know where the Training Arena is?"
"The Training Arena?" The boy seemed a bit surprised but then smiled and said, "I didn't expect you to be so eager to train right after recovering from your injuries."
Huo Feng smiled but didn't respond. The boy continued, "My name is Duan Ya, I'm the grandson of an elder in Xiaoyao Fortress. This place is quite large; since I have nothing else to do, I'll take you there."
