The Elder was dressed in the inherent black robes of Dragon Hidden, making him seem as if he was concealed in darkness. Although he was right in front of them, no one could clearly see his appearance.
“How is the investigation into the Serpent Demon Clan's actions going?” the Elder asked in a weak voice.
Zhang Mingyi quickly replied, “Smoke signals are rising, and the Serpent Demons have descended…” He then recounted the experiences of himself, Wang Long, and Jiang Xue in Sangyou Mountain in detail, and Wang Long learned about how Zhang Mingyi had escaped.
“That’s how it is. Although I managed to escape by luck, the treasure you bestowed upon me has been destroyed…” Zhang Mingyi said with some shame, lowering his head.
The Elder waved his hand and let out a weak chuckle. “As long as you are safe, that is what matters. You all did well to infiltrate the Serpent Demon Clan's stronghold and managed to return alive while bringing back so much information. Very good, very good…”
“There’s one more thing…” Zhang Mingyi frowned and shared the encounters of Wang Long and Jiang Xue in the forbidden cave, as well as their meeting with the mysterious Azure Robed Stranger on the way.
“Oh? He was able to make you feel a complete sense of death? If that’s the case… this person must be quite unfathomable… If he truly is part of the Serpent Demon Clan, it could be troublesome!” The Elder fell silent, lightly tapping his fingers on the table in front of him as if deep in thought.
After a while, he seemed to come back to himself, glanced at the three of them, and smiled lightly. “Alright, I will inform the Dragon Head and the other Elders about this matter. You have completed your mission well; you may leave now to rest!”
Zhang Mingyi let out a sigh of relief, a broad smile appearing on his face. “Thank you, Elder. We will take our leave now.”
Once outside, Wang Long couldn’t help but say, “I really don’t understand what you’re so excited about, Elder Mingyi. I’d rather be resting in that forbidden Valley of the Serpent Clan…”
At this point, he had a thought and glanced at Jiang Xue with a smile.
Jiang Xue turned her head away and ignored him.
Zhang Mingyi laughed and said, “That’s because you haven’t seen Dragon Hidden’s residence yet. Come, follow me!”
The two exchanged glances before following Zhang Mingyi ahead.
Strangely enough, although Wang Long was certain that Dragon Hidden was located at the bottom of Moonken Lake and should be deep underground, as Zhang Mingyi twisted and turned through various paths, they gradually began to see some light.
Zhang Mingyi stopped and smiled. “This is Dragon Hidden’s residence; I believe you will like it…” After saying this, he chose a room for himself and entered. Before closing the door, he paused again and said solemnly, “War will come soon; take this last bit of time to do what you want to do…”
Wang Long watched as his figure disappeared behind the door, feeling somewhat puzzled. He also chose a room and walked inside.
Inside the room was similar to the outside: blue skies and white clouds with a gentle breeze blowing. A small stream flowed slowly by, producing a soothing sound that made one unable to resist getting lost in it at first glance.
"This..." Wang Long was so surprised that he couldn't speak.
Jiang Xue glanced back and said softly, "This should be some kind of formation that has brought the terrain and scenery from somewhere into this room. However... the environment is really quite nice."
Wang Long smiled and said, "Do you want to live here with me? It looks really spacious; even a hundred people wouldn't feel crowded!"
Jiang Xue scoffed and gently walked out, slowly closing the door behind her.
Wang Long stepped inside and found a bed next to a babbling brook, shaded by a drooping willow, providing just enough sunlight without being overly gloomy.
He lay down lightly, and at once it felt as if all his troubles had vanished.
Or so it seemed.
Soon, he fell into deep thought again—about the impending threat of the Serpent Clan, the mysteriously vanished Corpse, the enigmatic Azure Robed Stranger; his father's expectations, the hidden conflicts within Dragon City, and the heavy responsibilities awaiting him...
For a moment, everything surged toward him like a tide, and he could only sigh softly and close his eyes.
Dragon Hidden undertook the most dangerous missions, each time fraught with peril. Therefore, when a mission concluded, everyone liked to rest in their rooms for a while to relieve fatigue and dispel irritability.
Wang Long was no exception. If he could truly choose, he sincerely wished he could stay here forever and live out his life in peace.
But he did not fully relax. In recent days, images from the stone coffin he had seen in the Serpent Demon Clan's forbidden cave kept surfacing in his mind—specifically, that scroll belonging to the Serpent Clan known as the Dragon Script Heavenly Book.
Although this Heavenly Book was incredibly strange and unfathomable, Wang Long had read extensively since childhood and had some understanding of these secret tales. Using his intelligence and wisdom, he gradually pondered and calculated, trying to unravel its secrets.
Naturally, this was not something that could be achieved overnight. However, even some superficial understanding allowed him to cross-reference it with what he had learned before, enhancing his comprehension of various Dragon Techniques.
He also applied the bizarre strokes of this Dragon Script into his Dragon Technique, improving his You Long Step and Thunderclap Sky Splitter among others, making his moves even more mysterious and unpredictable.
However, these were merely superficial insights. Wang Long knew full well that he was still far from truly deciphering this Dragon Script Heavenly Book—perhaps tens of thousands of miles away.
Until one day...
He was comfortably deriving a stroke from the Dragon Script in his mind when suddenly, the Dragon Soul awakened within him. The two shared a mental connection, and Dragon Duel immediately understood what he was contemplating.
"Hmm? This is... could it be the Ancient Dragon Script?!" His voice revealed an unprecedented surprise and shock.
"..." Wang Long suddenly realized and slapped his forehead: "Right! How could I forget that you are here with me, Dragon Duel! You are a dragon yourself, so you should understand these Dragon Scripts better than I do!"
Dragon Duel snorted coldly: "You are mistaken! Although I am unique among the surviving dragons, I have not inherited the Martial Arts and civilization passed down from the Ancient Dragon Clan. While the Dragon Script was created by the Ancient Dragon Clan, I know nothing about it."
Wang Long immediately felt deflated: "I thought we could reference each other and maybe crack this volume of Dragon Script and Heavenly Book..."
"Dragon Script and Heavenly Book? You mean... you have obtained part of the Dragon Script and Heavenly Book?" Dragon Soul exclaimed suddenly, an unprecedented astonishment evident in his usually calm demeanor.
What kind of figure was Dragon Soul? However, the Dragon Script and Heavenly Book represented supreme mysteries since the dawn of time, and anyone who heard about it would likely react similarly.
"That's right... I saw it in the forbidden area of the Serpent Demon Clan, but there was only one volume, which should be far less than what my Dragon City originally had; however..."
Dragon Soul said solemnly: "You have quite a good fortune! Although I haven't received the inheritance of the Dragon Script, the Dragon Language of our clan has been passed down. We can indeed verify things with each other... The mysteries within the Dragon Script are likely closely related to the Dragon Language..."
