"Good kid... I underestimated you. Let me send you on your way with my strongest move!"
The Azure Dragon Blade Technique consists of only three forms.
The first, Azure Dragon Crescent Blade, is a diagonal slash; the second, Azure Dragon Pursues the Sun, is a direct thrust; and the final form, the most violent one, is called Azure Dragon Breaks the Heavens, which is a downward chop.
There is no embellishment, no variation in this downward strike.
Qingmu always believed that to force himself to use this move, it would have to be against a dragon head or at least someone from the Eight Divisions of Heavenly Dragons.
Yet at this moment, facing such a young kid in his eyes, he found himself compelled to resort to this technique.
This filled him with shame and extreme anger.
However, the more he felt this way, the more he wanted to cut this kid down! The sooner, the better!
Thus, he immediately struck out, condensing twelve parts of power into a blue light that extended over ten feet long. The blue light flowed like water and shimmered like jade, surprisingly beautiful.
Then he swiftly brought it down. The Blade Light was condensed to its peak, forming a line of light.
This light sliced through the air, connecting the two of them. Wang Long knew that this light signified death. Even with the Heavenly Restoration Technique for healing, once dead, one is truly dead; the Heavenly Restoration Technique cannot bring someone back to life.
But naturally, he would not sit idly by. He took a deep breath and suddenly emitted blinding light from his body. In an instant, he resembled the Primal Thunder Beast, as Thunderfire seemed to burn around him.
The Legacy of Thunder Beast looked at Wang Long with some confusion, blinking as if unsure why he also had Thunderlight surrounding him.
But Wang Long knew this was his last move—completely burning all his Dragon Qi and life force to transform himself into the final Thunderfire Sun!
"Die!"
Both Qingmu and Wang Long shouted simultaneously.
The Blade Light was about to strike down as the sun was about to explode.
However...
“Frozen Illusion City!”
A decisive whisper suddenly echoed, and the entire space seemed to freeze. In an instant, everything within three feet was locked in place, even the blood that was falling hung suspended in mid-air.
At the same time, Wang Long and Qingmu's Dragon Arts dissipated, both of them stunned.
Jiang Xue thrust her sword forward, piercing directly through Elder Qingmu's chest.
Then everything came back to life.
Wang Long slumped down but was immediately embraced by Jiang Xue, her face filled with concern.
“Are you okay?!” Jiang Xue asked.
Wang Long smiled but used all his strength to reach out and gently stroke Jiang Xue's cheek, softly saying, “You actually broke through at this moment…”
Jiang Xue did not resist and lightly laughed, “Fool, do you really think I would let you face death alone?”
A warmth spread through Wang Long's heart, but suddenly an unprecedented fatigue washed over him. Slowly, his vision darkened, and he fainted.
When he awoke again, he found himself on top of the City Wall, with Zhang Mingyi and Jiang Xue looking at him with concern.
“Hmm? What happened... How long was I out?” Wang Long asked upon waking.
Zhang Mingyi smiled and said, “About half an hour. Fortunately, you and Jiang Xue managed to kill Elder Qingmu, so the battle situation has stabilized for now…”
Suddenly, Li Xinglie's voice rang in his ears as he sternly addressed Jiang Xue, “Leaving your post without permission and disobeying orders will be reported to Elder Longyin after the battle.”
Jiang Xue coldly nodded and then turned her gaze back to Wang Long.
Li Xinglie snorted coldly and seemed quite dissatisfied as he walked away.
Zhang Mingyi whispered, "Does this Elder Li have a grudge against you? It seems like he hopes you die in battle..."
Wang Long had not yet answered when a low hissing sound suddenly came from behind him, gently biting at his clothing. He turned around to see the Thunder Beast, now shrunk down to the size of a cat.
He hurriedly picked up the Thunder Beast, gently stroking it, and said with a smile, "You put in a lot of effort just now and even took a blow for me. I owe you a good reward in the future."
Zhang Mingyi frowned and said, "This strange beast emits thunder and lightning as soon as it appears. Could it be the legendary Primal Thunder Beast? But aren't these beasts already extinct? How come you have one here..."
Wang Long smiled but did not explain, and Zhang Mingyi did not press further.
"By the way, Jiang Xue, how did you suddenly break through at the last moment? Otherwise, with your breakthrough at the Five Dragon Veins level, you probably wouldn't have been able to trap that Qingmu with Frozen Illusion City," Wang Long asked, looking up.
Jiang Xue's face suddenly turned red as she replied softly, "It's nothing."
Zhang Mingyi laughed heartily and said, "Isn't it obvious? She must have seen you in danger and suddenly unleashed her potential to break through. You little fool are so clueless yet still want to ask; it's really..."
He shook his head with a smile and slowly walked away, seemingly quite displeased with Wang Long's lack of understanding.
Wang Long stood up and looked at Jiang Xue, asking, "Is that so? You broke through because you were worried about me? If that's the case... I guess I need to put myself in danger more often so that you'll be able to break through to Nine Dragon Veins soon?"
Jiang Xue's face flushed again as she shot him a glare and said, "Don't say such nonsense!"
At that moment, the Legacy of Thunder Beast crawled up onto Wang Long's shoulder, lying between them to block their view, completely unconcerned as it fell asleep on Wang Long's shoulder.
Instantly, a rumbling snore echoed out.
Jiang Xue smiled and reached out her jade-like finger to gently stroke the silvery-white fur of the Legacy of Thunder Beast, which felt like satin. However, she heard it grunt in dissatisfaction during its sleep, releasing sparks of lightning from its nose.
Wang Long suddenly reached out and grabbed Jiang Xue's wrist sincerely saying, "Thank you, Jiang Xue."
Jiang Xue's face immediately turned red. She looked around and pulled her hand away from Wang Long's, pouting, "What are you doing? There are so many people around... Besides, what is there to thank for? If I were in danger, wouldn't you save me the same way?"
Wang Long chuckled, "Ah, who knows!"
Jiang Xue became angry and punched him on the shoulder, startling the Thunder Beast, which suddenly unleashed a bolt of lightning.
At this moment, dusk was falling, and the sun was about to set. The battlefield at the East Gate was in a stalemate. Although Dragon City was vastly outnumbered by the Serpent Demon Clan, in terms of martial arts, equipment, and military strategy and experience, they far surpassed their opponents. Moreover, they had the advantage of time and place, so for the time being, they were not at a disadvantage.
As night approached, the two elders of the Serpent Demon Clan suddenly issued an order to sound the retreat. Slowly, they withdrew, and the guards of Dragon City naturally had no strength to pursue them, allowing them to leave the battlefield.
Li Xinglie let out a long breath and said, "You all go down. I will hold this position. Go check if there’s any need for help in other directions. Also... I heard that the Dragon Head encountered a formidable opponent in the back mountain; I don't know how that situation is. You should scout ahead... If there’s nothing happening at the other two gates, we will convene in the Ten Thousand Dragon Hall tonight."
Zhang Mingyi understood his meaning and quickly replied, "Understood."
He then led Wang Long and Jiang Xue out again from the City Wall towards the back mountain of Dragon City as night fell.
Wang Long suddenly felt strange; he hadn’t worried much about the safety of the Dragon Head. Perhaps it was because in his heart, he believed that he was the entire Dragon City and that no one in Zhongzhou could defeat the Dragon Head!
How could the Dragon Head possibly be defeated? How could he lose?
